Avoid avoid avoid. Worst escape room I've done, quite litterally have done FREE escape rooms better than this. None of the mechanisms work and the staff don't pay attention to manually start them either. So basically you'll solve a problem and wait around and wonder for 20 mins why nothings moving even if you got it right from the start. Then you have to ask for a clue (which they won't give, it'll just be a condescending phrase that tells you to do what you've already been doing.) then after fighting with them for five min they'll realize it's their fault and manually start it, wasting not just our time but our money. 30 dollars a person is just ridiculous for what this is. If you want more fun lock yourself in a dark closet for 30 min and try to get out, you'll probably feel more satisfied anyways. I will say that we did ignore all of the red flags 1. The bad reviews online 2. The two groups that came out super pissed off before us fighting for refunds cause nothing worked for them 3. How the place looked So kinda on us but... Did this for group bonding and I will say we did bond pretty well over how terrible this was and how much we got scammed, so maybe if you want team bonding then this works for you idk? Decided to check this place out after reading a bunch of great reviews. We did the Osaka High room which was pretty good! So many rooms to go through that it made the experience well worth it. My only criticism would be the staff. We didn't escape the room and only had one section left to get through. When the staff came in telling us we were out of time, the normal procedure would be to walk us through what we had left. Instead, the guy said he was unable to finish a walk through because the next group had arrived. It seemed that he was unwilling to walk us through the remaining aspects because if he did, then he'd have to reset all the puzzles... I've been to quite a few escape room locations and never has this happened before, even if the next group had arrived.. Overall the Osaka High room was pretty cool, but I only wish I knew how it ended..... read more

We had so much fun playing the escape the room at Mayze! We were in a group of 4, which I think is ideal for this room. The more players, the less scary but there will be more confusion if you're all looking for hints together. Without giving out spoilers, I can say that there is NO way I would stay in one of the rooms alone (There were multiple rooms). It's soo freaky!! We had a lot of hilarious moments when we were waaaay off on the hints - it was a lot of fun! Hints are unlimited and the owner was super nice! He told us that him and his friends engineered the whole escape the room experience, everything is mechanical and techy! This place is in the business of providing you with great escape games. Their lobby is relatively small compared to some other locations that double as cafes, but it has a nice minimalist design. They have a small handful of board games if you're waiting for your game to come up. Two games have opened up so far. We decided to go with The Truth of Osaka High, where you play as a group of investigators that are trying to solve the mystery behind a number of disappearances and a hanged student. Note: it's horror-themed. You can have 3 to 8 people in your group, so buddy up before you go exploring on your own. In terms of game design, it is done well. You are given the introduction of the story, and then the rest of the story presents itself as you work your way through the rooms. There are many rooms, each representing a different part of the story. You will find yourself in unique situations one after another, each requiring you to analyze the situation to figure out how to proceed. There are many props involved, but almost every prop is needed in some way. You don't need to think too outside-of-the-box: all of the solutions can be deduced as long as you find all of the hints. It is important to keep the story in mind as that will help you solve the problems. And of course, there will be scary stuff waiting for you at every corner. If you're not the type that can deal with horror very well, you may not want to be the last one to enter or leave the room. Spoiler: along the way, one of the hints can be treated as a makeshift weapon which you can use to comfort yourself throughout the story. In the end, we made it to the very last puzzle, but couldn't manage to solve it. However, it was a satisfactory experience, given how far we managed to get. If you like to immerse yourself in stories, this definitely something you should try. read more

My friends and I really enjoyed Escape With Usavich. The decor was super cute, and even made me look up Usavich when I got home! The puzzles were fun, and a good balance of easy and challenging; the mechanisms were creative and interesting. Though the end was a bit confusing, we escaped anyway. In terms of decor and atmosphere, The Truth of Osaka High was also top-tier. It was all kinds of scary, which I loved. However, my one complaint is that the clues for this game are sometimes a bit random, and aren't necessarily intuitive; you really have to think outside the box... But that might not save you, as even after the staff explained to us via clues and how the last puzzle was solved, our overall reaction was "What?!" (as in you normally wouldn't notice or think about these things, so to us, it was like a leap of logic). Mazse has redeemed the escape room experience for me. The last time I tried this at another place, I was trapped in a room of broken Ikea furniture with faulty locks and alot of math for one hour. Not my idea of fun. Mazse is so much better than that!! The Escape from Usavish room had a fun premise, unexpected surprises, interesting gadgets, and a good mix of physical and mental puzzles. It was not scary at all, so it might be a better option for those not looking for a scare. It took serious team effort sprinkled with some luck, but we were able to figure things in time to escape. The store entrance is in the back of an industrial area, so don't expect to see any signs from the main road. Look for the unit number. I didn't see the Mayze sign until I was parked and almost standing in front of the entrance. Looking for a black sign at night is not easy. Also, the owners are currently setting up some virtual reality games that will be available soon to play. That may be an interesting thing to try out in the future. read more

My friends and I did The Truth of Osaka High and to tell you the truth, we were a bit disappointed. It was not as scary as some of the reviews made it out to be. Although it was fun, we felt like it was very underwhelming for the price. At this price point, there are much better options such as Omescape or Escape Games Canada. Compared to those two places, Mayze seems very amateurish. The production value at Mayze doesn't come anywhere close. My friends and I did The Truth About Osaka High room. We went in super scared because we figured there would be grudge-like pictures everywhere. But this room was great! Logical puzzles, a lot of thinking and attention to detail to be done. And there were so many rooms lol we kept thinking we had made it but nope, another room. It was really well thought-out and the story behind the room was so creepy--Japanese horror just seems 10x scarier than any other kind. It was a thrilling and super, super fun experience. My group first came to Mayze in February, upon visiting many escape rooms from other places, we all thought the two rooms at Mayze could be considered the top ones. Can't wait for their third room..! My group first booked "Escape with Usavich", and we loved it so much that we did "Truth of Osaka High" after as well. Both of these escape rooms were very immersive, we were very happily surprised that Mayze doesn't really use any combination locks in their rooms - as my group was getting tired/bored of solving those from the other escape rooms we've been to in the past. They have included well-designed puzzles, good decor, excellent mechanics/tech usage (I.e. Lasers, but I will not post more to avoid spoiling). My group have managed to escape Usavich room; however we did run out of time for Osaka High (booo..) The horror effects in Osaka High are actually very done. I would recommend coming in larger groups for Osaka High just so it's easier to split up and look for clues together. My group have also came back to try heir Virtual Reality several times. Personally, I get motion sickness everytime I play FPS games previously; however, I was completely fine with their VR. They're adding more games with each time we do come back to play. My group really liked Dig.It (shootings vs each other), Quivr (1-4players) ranger shooting arrows to defeat different bosses. Personally I liked their new Escape Room VRs. They're always adding more games in their VR room, and that's the reason why my group of friends kept coming back for more. The location was a bit tricky for us to find especially since we came when it was very dark outside. The staff here were very helpful and friendly in patiently setting everything up for us, choosing games for us based on everyone's preferences, we were able to play boardgames in their lobby before and after our bookings as well. read more

Make sure you bring your student ID for an extra 10% off as well getting another discount for checking in on fb. Located in a small unit off Markham Rd, there's no signage from the main road which is a little annoying and makes it hard to find but look for the unit numbers and you'll be ok. The one staff member who was there was kind and helpful. As for the game itself....don't do The Truth of Osaka High with a group with of mainly girls. This room is easily the scariest room we've ever done which was very unique. There's a ton of secret passages that lead to the other parts of the escape and going through each new door was horribly frightening (me and the only other guy friend would always go first). Thankfully their other room isn't horror based so maybe we'll try that next time. The room was very interactive and technology was used very well with lots of physical puzzles which I find more fun than finding a key (Mayze doesn't use locks in their rooms). I like the concept of this place, the VR arcade is definitely unique but given the price you pay ($17) and for how little (and terribly boring) games they have, it's like throwing money into the water. I own a VR headset as well and a huge variety of VR games so I'd rather just stay at home and play my own games if I knew I was going to be playing golf and climbing walls for $17. This was definitely a one time thing and I'll probably never return for it again. So not worth it and boring as hell. If the place promotes their establishment as half escape games/half VR arcade, then there's no excuse to why there aren't actual VR games worth playing. It's like walking into a sushi restaurant but instead of getting to eat yummy sushi, you get a mimic cafeteria sushi instead. My other big peeve was my headphone set. It wasn't working and the person working there made no effort to try and fix it. This left me unable to communicate with the two others that came with me. They also had like at most 5 multiplayer games (boring ones)? And a few co-op and single player games. Honestly, not fun when you're the odd number in a group. And normally I'm fine playing on my own but when you have no entertaining single player games then that's a no in my books. I've not tried the escape rooms yet so someone will have to convince me super hard to come back and try them, but for now, I'm never stepping foot here again. read more

Let's start off by saying that my boyfriend and I have been to a lot of escape rooms. They were nice enough to accommodate us for only two people when their minimum was three. And our gameMaster was nice and laughed at all our lame jokes. With that being said, we did the Osaka high room. It's a large multi room escape room, and although it was eerie it's puzzle are best described as "meh". The set needs a sprucing up and even a little bit of cleaning. A lot of dust bunnies and wear and tear. They had a lot of props but the quality of the puzzles were mediocre. I don't think we will come back to do anymore of the other rooms. Just go to here/Omescape for the highest tech escape rooms in Markham. I place them together because they had the same feel. Mayze is located in an obscure location but looking at other trap rooms they're in weird spots too.. Mayze needs to work on their lounge area, maybe set something nicer up on the tv or something. I overlooked the cosmetcs cause I'm always ready for surprises and man did me and the group I went with had fun. We played Escape with Usavich with 7 people and honestly it was challenging enough and we were able to finish where they offered to take our pictures afterwards. There are only two puzzle rooms but they also have a VR arcade which I did not ask about. Hoping they will expand their quantity of rooms as I know their quality is great. read more

My friends and I have been addicted to going to escape games for a while now, and just when we thought we have gone to them all, we found this little gem. Currently they only have 2 escape rooms, but they are both very well done, aesthetically and mechanically. The stories are elaborate and the theme very well incorporated into all the puzzles we had to solve in order to escape. After we successfully escaped from Usavich, we liked the room so much that we decided to try the second room "the truth of Osaka high" as well. I loved the way they made all the props and puzzles electric/trigger-able by magnets. There is no physical lock and key involved, which sets them apart from many other escape rooms. As well, they offer 4 VR arcade rooms, and while their game library is not as extensive as I would have hoped, its a great way to have fun and try VR for the first time. Their staff was friendly and helpful, as they patiently guided us through how to use the controls. Came to try Truth of Osaka High after a hiatus from escape rooms, and this didn't disappoint. The atmosphere is scary from the get-go and didn't stop until the end. Mayze is innovative with their puzzles - you will find no lockboxes here. More impressive is the size of the rooms - more than once I expected the story to end but it kept going. The puzzles are fairly linear but are challenging to even experienced escapers. The only thing that makes me feel inadequate is that the rooms are not especially 'Japanese' even though the story supposedly takes place in Osaka. This should have been replaced with any other location but making anything Japanese probably makes the whole theme more scary. Regardless, it's a room that's well done. Best escape room I've been to. I've been to some pretty lame ones and okay ones but this is by far my favourite! Finally a good escape room that has logic. The storyline was consistent, fun, and actually relevant to what you had to do to escape. The amount of details that went into the room as well were well thought out. What separates this escape room is that there isn't a focus on keys and locks to get to the next step. I've been to too many Escape Rooms where it was simply a number code you had to put in to some lock and voila you have the key to get through one room to the next. This escape room was much more fun than that incorporating different ways to unlock a next step (don't want to give too much away). Highly recommend this place. We did the truth of Osaka high despite hearing and reading about how scary it was, and it definitely had some scary moments. However, this is one of the harder escape rooms I've been to, and you really have to think and pay attention to all the details because you can easily miss something. There were also many rooms to this escape room, and as soon as you think you may be done, you're in another room trying to figure out how to solve the clues to escape. My friends and I agreed that it was challenging, although we did make it to the last room before running out of time. If you enjoy Japanese horror films, then you will probably enjoy the experience in this escape room. The Truth of Osaka High was very well-done thematically, setting a creepy vibe immediately which lasted throughout the duration of the game. The one downside (from my personal experience) is that it becomes really difficult to think clearly when you're too scared. Choose your group wisely... I went with 3 other girls and we just fed off of each others' fear and spent half of our time hiding behind one another, too afraid to open the next door or venture into the next room. I legit came out of the room shaking from adrenaline and fear (but then again, I'm a wimp when it comes to this stuff.) All that speaks to is the fact that the room(s) are well-designed and feel realistic. One of the coolest things about Mayze is how pretty much everything is automated - solve a puzzle correctly and doors and locks will just start to pop open - this is not one of those budget rooms where all you do is solve puzzles to find keys and unlock boxes. The puzzles are reasonably challenging and varied in terms of the tasks you need to do. Also there are SO many interconnecting rooms, probably more than I've seen in any other escape game, which is good because you get your money's worth, but can be bad if you're like me and by the end of it you're just exhausted from being scared and just want the whole thing to end. I heard they now have a second room which is thankfully not horror themed, so I would be interested in coming back to give that a try! read more

There are multiple rooms which is fantastic, but some of the parts of the game did not work despite numerous attempts (we confirmed that we were entering it in correctly) - that was where they lost a star. We loved that there were multiple rooms which was great but I have to commend those who solved it in 60 mins. Fortunately they give you multiple hints. Sadly, for Mayze anyway, Escape Games Canada is still our favourite. I'd still recommend giving this place a try if you're looking to see what other escape places are out there. read more

This is one of the better escape rooms in the GTA. It's a relatively new place; I think it opened about 2-3 weeks ago. There was only one room available for the time being, 'The Truth of Osaka High', with a second room stated to open up in August. I came here on a Friday with 5 friends for a booking at 9pm. The open sign was off and the blinds were covering all the windows so it looked like they weren't open, but they were. We were happily greeted when we entered. The guy there was very friendly. Even though we arrived on time, we ended up having to wait a bit as the team ahead of us were given extra time (which was fine with me). They seemed to still be renovating as the reception area looked a bit sparce. The place itself looked small. However when we entered the escape room there was so much more space than we thought there would be. I personally love horror so I was very satisfied with the theme and the layout of the rooms. One of my friend on the other hand thought it was a bit too scary. There was one section of the escape room that I probably would not want to be in alone. All my friends thought it was very entertaining. There was only one small problem at the end, there was some technical difficults so the door did not open even if the puzzle was correct. All in all, even thought my group did not makenit out in the given time of 1 hour we still really enjoyed ourselves. I would highly recommend, and would return to try out there other rooms when they are available. read more

The Osaka High Narrative has more puzzles than the rooms I've done in Hong Kong, meaning more spaces to explore! The staff was nice enough to let us go overtime because there were so many obstacles! I introduced my family to escape rooms with The Truth of Osaka High, and we had a very good time. The atmosphere was very well crafted - I am not easily scared, but I found myself looking over my shoulder and reluctant to turn my back on open doors. The puzzles are unique and fit the theme well. The game was much larger than expected, with several rooms to explore. Opinions on the story were mixed - some of the group felt it was a little too thin. The one issue we had was with the tech; we lost a lot of time on one puzzle which we eventually realized was broken - the employee we radioed didn't seem to understand the problem and we had to just force the broken component into place - and another didn't register the correct solution until we tried it a second time. This did take away from our enjoyment of the room - especially the broken one, as we spent so much time trying every possible configuration without result that we considered quitting in frustration - but once we got past them the fun of the later rooms helped redeem the situation. Overall we enjoyed ourselves despite the problems, and I would certainly consider coming back to try their other room. read more

Escape rooms were so hyped a while back and I just didn't get it. I wondered what was so exciting about being stuck in a room trying to solve it and get out.. like what ??? But everything changed after my sister took me and our gang to mayze. We did The Truth of Osaka High room and it was an awesome experience for me as an escape room noobie. There are multiple rooms and each room is super well thought out and creative in the ways that you solve it as well. The theme for this one was horror and kept me on my toes the whole time. We were never bored and always intrigued with every room we entered. We ran short of time for the very last room, but were very close to solving it. The entire escape room story was so intricate and well thought out it seriously left me in awe. I think this is a great place for a group of friends to have a fun time. I believe that this escape room is more expensive than others, but you really get an amazing experience that I think is really worth the price they set. read more

Great place to chill with friends! Mayze is a smaller escape room venue with a cozy open area for board games and chatting. The owners are super nice and they charge a reasonable price for high-quality escape rooms. I've completed both rooms that are open and found the puzzles to be challenging but not impossible to solve. What I like the most is the strong story component to all their rooms. The experience is immersive amd unique compared to other escape rooms that are more logic-based puzzles solved in succession. I highly recommend their room The Truth of Osaka High. We completed The Truth of Osaka High. Great escape room. We've completed about 10 rooms in different cities. This one ranks up there. Our fave is still Escape Games Canada (in North York) but this is a very close second. There four of us. A good number as the puzzles are linear. They recommend six but with six you'll probably have people standing around. Good use of technology. Not an overwhelming number of puzzles so success is achievable but the puzzles are clever so it is challenging. We had to ask for a couple of hints. Thematically a little scary but not too much so. No padlocks which was a change from other rooms we've done. Side note. Little else at the facility other than a few board games and a small table so don't plan to hang around before or after your escape room. Staff are not the most enthusiastic or engaging. read more

I've been to about 10 different escape rooms in the GTA now and Mayze's Osaka High room was defintely one of the most impressive, memorable, and unique rooms I've done. There was clearly a lot of effort put into the ambience of the room. The horror theme was very well executed- I was genuinely terrified for most of the hour! I loved the fact that the elements of the puzzles were almost entirely foolproof, eliminating the possibility/presence of too many red herrings. The puzzles were unique and appropriately challenging. I went with 4 people and we escaped with a minute to spare (using a few hints). The facility itself was clean and quiet when we arrived around 8pm. The person at the desk was friendly and welcoming. The waiting area was stocked with popular board games which is great for if you come early or are waiting on your group to arrive. Overall it really was an exhilarating experience and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone sick of repetitive padlock puzzles! read more

In particular, I was impressed with the production value (props, multi-room, with minimal usage of combination locks and numpads), immersion of the puzzles within the premise/storyline, and the thought and creativity evident in the puzzles themselves. Went with some friends and did the Escape with Usavich room! It has a cartoon/stuffed-animal theme with a solid amount of different types of puzzles and a cool design. Its difficulty rating is 3/5 so this would be a great escape room for any type of audience, whether you're an avid escape room goer or a first-timer. They also offer discounts for students (with student ID) and for social media check-ins! The staff is cool and casual and their furniture is tasteful. Their waiting room has plenty of board games and puzzle games so you can get a good brain warmup before you enter your room. read more

Virtual Reality is a new venture for Torontonians, so whether you go to one business or another, the difference is minimal. The first time I tried VR, it was seated and I was using the Oculus Rift system. At Mayze, they are still in the beginning phase so everything is like a trial for them. Having said that, it was still a unique experience for the 4 of us. Location Not sure why all escape room places are so hidden. It's like you have to find the damn place before you can even try to escape lols. Anyhow, I recommend everyone to google map the place first. There should be enough parking spots if you come on a weekend. Service The guys here are pretty nice, super chill I might add. Since they are also learning to set up VR for us, extra time was given for some of the mistakes they made. They gave us a bit of caution before we started that this is new technology for them, so no biggie. VR I'm going to give everyone a big tip here. You will get dizzy. This is in no way the fault of Mayze, because I have been to 2 different places and both times I got a little light-headed. I am warning you now, drink before and after your VR experience. It is essential that you strap that thing on your head as tight as you can. The system that Mayze uses is HTC Vive and you will be playing while standing. I really like how they placed mats on the floor (meaning you are to take off your shoes) and divided each player with curtains. Unlike other VR experiences, they have ventured into the world of multiplayer (which I believe is much more difficult to set up as a business). Overall, it is really fun and you need to be open-minded because it takes some getting used to, time-wise. The guy stayed with us 90% of the time and tried to teach us how to navigate each game. I think that's extra service, and will give them an extra leg in this service area. I don't think VR is for everyone, but it might appeal to individuals who don't even game. I really like the Dodgeball game, easy to pick up, and super fun. There was a climbing game that drove me nuts, so much swinging of the arms lols. This was a great escape room. I've been to quite a few of them in the past and this time I tried the Osaka one. It was definitely harder than I thought it would be. They were very clever and smart with how they set up the whole thing and would definitely recommend this to anyone who is really looking to exercise their brain for this one. read more

My friends and I have been to many escape rooms across the GTA and we must say this place is on par with other locations we like such as Omescape and Trapped! They have promotions for social media check in ($5 off) as well as 10% discount for students so remember to bring your IDs!! We chose to do the room "The Truth of Osaka High" and I must say it was quite frightening. There were many rooms that we had to go through and there was no locks in these escape unlike other escape rooms. Since there were no locks, sometimes it was hard to figure out if we unlocked a new clue or door because there were no signals to tell us usually. We had to test the doors each time when we thought we figured it out to see if they were unlocked. We will definitely come back to try the other room since they only have two right now but there are more rooms coming soon! read more
