Mini 'Tini & Shrimp Cocktail Tower.
    David N.

We'd just finished a delightful dinner on Ossington and were in the mood for a nightcap, when I remembered Bar Mordecai. I'd been wanting to check the place out for ages, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity. We showed up on a Saturday at around 7:00 and the place was half full. I was immediately a little put off by the open and far from intimate vibe, but the longer I sat at the bar, the more I began to dig the place. We were able to order from the Happy Hour menu, so we pretty much had to grab the Mini 'Tini & Shrimp Cocktail Tower ("two mini grey goose martinis plus shrimp cocktail"). It arrived a little while later and it's definitely a fun concoction. As advertised, it's two small martinis and a tiny shrimp cocktail presented in a tower. The various components were all quite satisfying, so I'd say it's a must order. I figured I should probably try a cocktail, too, so I went with the Freaky Money ("bacardi ocho rum, elora "borealis" pale ale, campari, dillon's chocolate liqueur, guava, peppercorn, coconut, angostura"). I mean with a list of ingredients like that, I pretty much had no choice. It's surprisingly good! All the components work shockingly well together and it's a fruity cocktail with an edge to it, essentially. I'd definitely order it again. I noticed that Bar Mordecai also has a cool-looking basement complete with private karaoke rooms, so I'm sure we'll be returning to check that out eventually.

    Oysters during happy hour

Would absolutely recommend and am shocked that this place wasn't more packed early on a Friday night (though I'm honestly glad that, unlike other restaurants in the area, this one had breathing room)! We sat at the bar and ordered the entire happy hour menu (which, by the way, goes all the way till 8pm-- yes!) and it was so good: Oysters Patatas bravas Chicken kofta Bannock with hummus and labneh and warm olives And two teeny martinis And then we shared one small plate of sea bream with fingerling potatoes and tomatoes. And then we tried two cocktails: -Final Boss (this one has BOBA and I'm obsessed) -Rat Boy (Kat, the bartender, created this and gave it a Simpson's reference!) All of it was perfect. The vibes here are immaculate; the staff are super kind (shout-out to Kat and the amazing hostess) and there's loads of great happy hour deals to try.

Such a cute hipster bar in Dundas West. It's pretty roomy with lots of seating at tables or the bar. They can also take your jacket for you at the host stand. The bathrooms are all gendered as in it's individual toilets with their own door and a shared sink area. Love the disco hall in the bathroom. They have a pretty good selection of non alcoholic drinks including a non-alc of the day which I tried. It was citrusy and very delicious. For food, the croquettes and cauliflower with hummus are must get. We also got shishitos peppers which were a daily special and patatas bravas which are bigger chunks of potato. I personally like my patatas bravas with more crunch and these were more soft.

Went here over a weekend for drinks with friends. Very cute interior and happy hour even on Sunday! Washrooms are down a flight of stairs next to another bar level area with private karaoke rooms lol. Food is good but it took a long time so this is definitely a place where you need to take your time. Fun chill vibes though. Get resos or come early or you may have a long wait.

Came here for a family dinner on a Wednesday night. The interior were pretty nicely decorated and the space was pretty open. There weren't too many people there but we were still sat at a relatively tight spot. Feels definitely more like a lounge vibe rather than a sit down restaurant. The food was pretty good and their happy hour deal was decent. The Patatas Bravas and the shishito at a discounted price made them pretty worth it and both were pretty decent. The potatoes were a little bit wet though. The pulpo had a great texture was a little bit lacking in flavor. The cook on it was perfect though. Finely the burrata was definitely the star. It was light and fluffy and paired perfectly with the bread. Overall was a good meal but most dishes needed slight adjustments to get it there. If only it was a bit more of a comfortable dining spot, but if you're coming in expecting lounge like seating, you wouldn't be disappointed.

Woah, this place is so cool!! I found Bar Mordecai on blogTO's top 40 restaurants with amazing interior design and I was so excited to see that the furnishings and decor were inspired by Wes Anderson. The photos online made this place look beautiful, but in person it was spectacular. I'm absolutely obsessed with it. I made a reservation for 2 people online and we were immediately seated as soon as we spoke with the hostess--something that I haven't experienced much with other bars' reservation systems. We ordered 4 different drinks and 5 different food items, of which I can't remember the name of but they were all INCREDIBLE. The food was so impressive and every bite tasted like heaven. The service was also amazing, our waitress was so kind and would regularly come to check up on us. I seriously can't wait to come back here, I'll be bringing all my friends :)

Good ambience and service was great. The spicy margarita is 10/10. The gold dust woman was not too my liking a bit too bitter. Pearl morissette rose was good, not too sweet and dry which is what I expected.

Lively spot with great drinks, a vibey dark bar upstairs that turns into a dance floor later at night. Loved the music too, DJ was great. Downstairs they have a lounge and karaoke rooms which seem fun.

LOVE this place! Our server...the interior....the food.....the drinks, fantastic! Me and my 2 friends came here just before their happy hour ended and ordered 6 things since everything is small format - the shrimp, cauliflower, cheese croquettes, beet and tomato salad, eggplant and of course the oysters with mignonette (picture attached)! Food was all done shortly after hitting the table. For drinks I had two Tame Impalas, refreshing and springy flavour. Could have had 3 more! Our server was delightful, didn't catch their name but very professional, attentive and brought out everything very quickly - it really heightened the dining experience! Will undoubtedly be back again.

I would not hesitate to come back, but there are some things I would definitely not order again. Not order again: - mozzarella sticks - these were not cheesy, fresh, or flavourful, huge disappointment - prosciutto and zeppole - prosciutto were not very fresh or thinly sliced, weirdly presented with the zeppole on the side Will definitely order again: - heroic dose pasta - the pasta was so fresh, great sauce and plenty of mushrooms (my favourite dish) - NYC spicy rigatoni - really good flavours and the pasta texture was perfect (also homemade) - Caesar salad - so creamy and I think they make the sauce in house bc I tasted a hint of the anchovy umami flavour The pesto pasta was pretty good too. And so were all the pizzas. I can't comment much on the pizzas because I was heavily focused on their homemade pasta. Everyone enjoyed the pizzas though. The only things that was bad were the two appetizers we got. They also offer an extensive list of drinks - beer, wine, cocktails, mocktails. I really like this spot and will definitely be back!

Very nondescript outside facade - no sign telling you what it is other than a small "BSC" (for Bovine Sex Club) painted near the door. Great sound system & chill vibes pervade throughout. Weirdly the stage is right in the entrance of the club, on your left, with a long bar along the right side, heading back. Great, crowd, great location in cool area with lots of restaurants & plenty of parking - both on the street up to 2 hours & extended parking for a flat-rate of CA$20 (~$14 USD) from 6:00pm until the next morning, just 2 blacks away.

Without attempting to try to present a front of a time long gone, The Bovine simply exists today as it once did in that time long ago, before Smokes stickers, before iPhones, back when people would just go to a bar to talk with those they didn't know the morning prior. This man is a treasure--a multitalented musician who plays in many bands including The Lemon Bucket Orkestra. In season, you can catch Michael playing trumpet and singing with a jazz band on the back patio on Saturday evenings (5-8pm). The patio, accessible via an alleyway off Rolyat Street, feels like one of this neighbourhood's best kept secrets. Such a fun, chill vibe back there. Perhaps these Saturday shows will eventually move back inside, where they were held in the beforetimes, when the band sat cheek by jowl with customers in one of the city's most "intimate" performance venues. But whether Michael is performing behind the bar or on the back patio, the man is a marvel of multitasking. He'll perform part of a tune, set the trumpet down as the band plays on, take people's orders, prepare and serve drinks, and then pick up the trumpet and continue the song. So freaking cool. He also hosts a unique music listening event on Monday nights called Decide on the B-Side...don't forget to bring your favourite vinyl. As for the drinks, nothing fancy here, just a decent beer list and hard booze, mostly. But as described above, this bar is so much more. It's chock full of fun and character.
