Blue Oven Bakery - Spinach cheddar scone

Blue Oven just gets better and better! Currently they have started up their mini farmers market…read moreagain. It is Wednesdays from 2-6pm! You are encouraged to order ahead online (which must be done by 9am Sundays for the Wed pickup). They do have some stuff for onsite purchase, but it is first come first serve! My favorite Blue Oven product has always been the English Muffin. Second to that is any croissant they make. Recently I tried the almond croissant and coconut croissant which is now my #1 flavor. They are huge, flaky, buttery, and have yumminess in the center! I finally got to try one of their scones, which has now ruined me for any other scones... spinach cheddar, wow. Finally my newest favorite item is their Spinach Kale pesto bread with cheese. I look forward to Wednesdays just for this bread! Don't forget the Italian hub cap which is huge and a bread staple! I like it with an olive oil dip or garlic butter! Beyond their goodies, for the mini market they have teamed up with Roothouse Aquaponics to provide greens, and Old Dutch Farm to provide meat, poultry, eggs, and maple syrup! All the businesses accept card (some for a small fee) or cash. They all also take pre-orders on their websites! Beyond this location, you can find Blue Oven goodies at such places as Jungle Jims, ETC produce, and more! Check their website for details!

Bumping this down one star for a very unfortunate reason:…read more I woke up this morning craving some of the delicious bread I bought Saturday, only to discover that my Froagies already had mold on them. I don't expect natural, homemade food to last forever, but I do expect it to stay fresh for longer than two days. Last week, I purchased Froagies as well, and they became moldy four days later. When fresh, the Froagies are delightful, but I certainly can't eat an entire package before it goes bad. Splurging on $6.00 bread that ends up in the trash bin makes me cringe. Perhaps these need to be packaged differently? Perhaps smaller portions need to be offered? The other bread I purchased in big, round loaves is still fresh and going strong. As much as I loved those Froagies, sadly, I won't be buying any more.

While the space itself isn't large, they had an impressive selection of cookies, cakes, and cheesecakes for a Wednesday afternoon--plenty to tempt you the moment you walk in. I went straight for the bourbon caramel swirl cheesecake, and that's when things got even better. The girl behind the counter casually mentioned they use Weller's bourbon . Even better? She proudly said she gets to eat whichever flavor she wants. I joked that sounded like a great perk--she laughed and revealed she's actually the daughter of the owners. Loved that little personal touch. My wife is more of a traditionalist and chose the original cheesecake with caramel swirl. She said it was incredibly creamy and very good. Mine was just as creamy, with a noticeable punch of bourbon flavor balanced perfectly by the caramel, and finished with a crispy, satisfying crust. Bottom line: definitely good, definitely delicious. This is the kind of place that makes you plan your next visit before you've even finished your slice. I would absolutely return for another piece (or two) Unfortunately, I ate my cheesecake but I snap a photo. I couldn't wait! lol!

The texture was also perfect. Some cheesecakes are way too dense, but this one was creamy with perfect mouthfeel. I've been eating and baking cheesecakes for friends and family for years. Not anymore. This is the best! On a business note-great interaction on social media.

These were such a hit at our wedding! I can't count the number of times people said "oh my gosh…read morewhere are these donuts from?!" One of my groomsman told me, "I love you, but these donuts were the best part of the wedding." None were left except the few I stashed for the bride and I . Marcella's team made everything so easy for us, they even suggested toppings that would fit into our color theme. Donuts were baked fresh and delivered to our venue 1.5hr prior to the wedding. I think anyone that's planned a wedding will agree, the highest compliment you can give a vendor is: we didn't have to think about them --they delivered them, arranged them, all on time. I've had A LOT of donuts in my life and these are my favorite; combine that with the service and you can't beat it. Cannot recommend enough!

I went to the Eastgate location once awhile back, and the products were dry and bland; I bought a variety for a meeting, and ended up throwing most of them away, half-eaten, which is hard to believe considering how much the attendees usually like doughnuts. I vowed to not go back there. However, this morning I was running behind and didn't have time to hit Servatii's, which has become my go-to place, so against my better judgment I swung into Marcella's in Mt. Carmel, as it was on the way. Since it was a smaller group, I only grabbed six (again, a variety). Luckily I tried one myself en route to the office; it was AWFUL!! Dry, bland --just so bad, especially given the price. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice...I'll never go back. Yuck...
