I am severely disappointed with the experience I had at this bakery. I've heard, for years, this is the best in Cincinnati, so I decided to use her for my wedding cake. We went to the wedding tasting and I was underwhelmed. We paid a deposit anyways and planned use her despite being underwhelmed because the cake was our least important thing. However, we decided to cancel our wedding and elope in another country, thus no longer needing a wedding cake. I called her to let her know, didn't ask for our deposit back even once, although she made sure to repeatedly tell me that the deposit is non-refundable. I never asked for it. Instead, I asked to apply my $75 deposit towards a birthday cake for my son instead. She said I would just have to pick it up no later than our originally planned wedding date. No problem. His birthday was the same weekend anyways. About a month before I was supposed to pick the cake up, I got a phone call telling me I hadn't shown up to a design session, but I had nothing on my end saying I was ever scheduled. I had canceled the original session, and the day she called me wasn't even close to the original date, so I was very confused and apologized because I thought that maybe I had made a mistake. Fast forward to yesterday, I called to see if my cake was ready for pickup, as I like to confirm things before wasting my time and gas. She told me that "all cakes for today are ready" but never even asked my name or tried to confirm my cake was there. I hung up with her a little surprised by her lack of professionalism but still trusted that she was on top of things. The next day, today, I went to pick up the cake and she didn't have it. In fact, she didn't have any of my paperwork or anything. I had to call my fiancé to have him send me a photo of our original paperwork (which I didn't bring because I was no longer picking up a wedding cake). Eventually, she found my original order attached to someone else's order. She said that we have the same initials and she must have mixed them up. To me, that's just poor observation skills. So there I was, picking up a cake that wasn't made but "lucky" for me she had a 1/4 sheet chocolate cake in the back she would ice and write on. Knowing that this was pretty much my only option at this point, I went with it. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. My deposit was $75, the cake actually cost $45, and I bought 2 number candles for $8.50. I was very overcharged for this plain, ugly cake and was still charged for the damn candles. Never again will I recommend this bakery. I had wanted to support a local, woman-owned business, but I can't in good conscience support this one. She's disorganized, rude (she told a customer in front of her brand new employee that she wasn't good at using the register -- the look on that poor girls face broke my heart), and doesn't pay attention to important details, which is why this mess happened. I've attached a photo of the cake I got. I'm giving 2 stars because she did, at the very least, provide me with a chocolate cake. read more

Ms. LaDawn created a gluten free birthday cake for my daughter's champagne birthday and I cannot express how wonderful it tasted. No one could tell it was GF and everyone remarked about how yummy it was. I have been GF for over 20 years and I have eaten just about every GF cake in the city and this cake was, by far, the best GF cake I have ever tasted! Bar none! It was so good I just ordered my son's birthday cake today from her. Do yourself a favor....if you are gluten free and need any type of cake from wedding to birthday to anniversary, this is absolutely the place to get it. Lasagna had us from the bridal show three years ago with her lemon cake with raspberry filling, and she absolutely made the most delicious and beautiful cake for us to help tie up our special day. I would loved to give more stars, but I was very disappointed because I drove 6.8 miles just to visit this bakery to show support and it was closed around 3:30pm!!! The hours of operation are from 11am-6pm. I checked before making the ride and wasting my gas. I guess the bakery is only ran by 1 person, because the signage read " closed, be back shortly had to make a delivery" I had a tasting at a wedding convention and I had a taste for some baked goods. I called LaDawn on a wing and a prayer yesterday to see if she could possibly create a cake with a golden shovel decoration on top for a surprise for one of my team members who was being recognized for her bright idea at TriHealth Orthopedics. I called several places who said they could offer something but I just kept coming back to her reviews. she asked if I cared what kind of cake because she had a quarter sheet cake of almond White and I said that sounded like it would work to me. I wasn't sure it would be enough so we decided on some cupcakes. She had yellow available and asked if that would work and I said at this point anything work considering how last minute it was (I needed enough for 30 people by noon today). I did say it would be kind of nice to have chocolate if at all possible since we were going to have white cake and that would offer variety but told her it was not a big deal if yellow was easiest in the best option. So I showed up today to pick up the cake and the cupcakes and sure enough she made chocolate! She said her husband said well she really wanted chocolate so she found the time to accommodate us! the cake was beautiful and so were the cupcakes but they tasted even better! No one on my team had ever had her sweets before but everyone took pictures of her label for future ordering possibilities! If you are looking for any type of customer service Sweets by Ladawn is NOT the place to go. The wedding cake we ordered was nice unfortunately it was not the color we ordered. When the cake was delivered an hour before the wedding I approached Ladawn about the incorrect color but instead of taking any ownership of the mistake I was told when the frosting was mixed this is the color it made. To this day we have not received an apology but instead Ladawn continues to put the blame on us claiming we never provided a color sample even though when she took our money she assured us she could make the cake off a picture We provided.
