Today I found a place "where diets come to die a delicious death." It's called Country Crust Bakery in Bainbridge, Ohio, and what a find it was! We were out exploring the area when we stumbled across this charming little bakery run by a group of Amish girls. The moment you walk through the door, your senses go into overdrive. The smell of freshly baked pies, cookies, breads, and pastries fills the air, and I swear I started drooling before I even reached the display case. As I quickly learned, "walking in here with self-control is like bringing a snowball to Florida." It simply doesn't exist! Mine certainly didn't. I ended up leaving with two peach fry pies, a loaf of cheddar jalapeño bread, and a glazed donut. My wife chose one of their giant fresh-baked pretzels with cream cheese. It was served warm and was absolutely delicious. Then I dug into the glazed donut, and wow--light, fluffy, and it practically melted in my mouth. This was our first visit, but there's no doubt we'll be back. In fact, I can easily see us becoming regulars. A quick heads-up: they accept cash or checks, but no credit cards, so plan accordingly. Country Crust also has a cute little café area where they serve pizzas and sandwiches. From what I saw, those sandwiches were absolutely ginormous. I didn't order one this time, but trust me, the brisket on a pretzel bun and the Reuben both have my name written all over them for a future visit. If you're anywhere near Bainbridge and have a sweet tooth--or just appreciate great homemade baked goods--do yourself a favor and make the drive. absolutely the best pretzels that I've ever had several different types of cheese, dipping sauce, and their pizza and sandwiches are amazing too, but they have more than just hot food. They have baked goods cookies, breads, breadcrumbs, cakes, pies, and the best of all cream puffs. It's like a deep-fried doughnut with icing. They're amazing. I love this place the Amish ladies that work in there are always very kind and it is a cool environment to just hang out and look around at all the different Amish goods. read more

These are the best donuts I have ever had! We got Long Jon's and they were bursting with cream and fresh and soft. I also got an Apple Fritter and with one bite it reminded me of being a kid and standing in my grandmother's kitchen eater her homemade donuts. When they first opened, they put an old order Amish bakery out of business out off of Wheat Ridge. That was too bad because her bakery was smaller and she made everything from scratch. Her products were outstanding. People just dont realize that Country Crust does everything out of boxes and bags and their pies are the worst. I recently bought a blackberry pie advertised as "fresh blackberries" and it had all of five berries in it and the rest was gel. Made me pretty upset because I had company. I usually do not buy pie there but this was an exception due to limited time. Other than their atmosphere, sandwiches, and some donuts, I don't know why Country Crust is so busy. Don't be fooled, they don't make much of the products in containers and nothing from scratch. I took away three stars for terrible fruit pies, lack of items made from scratch, and a port a potty. read more

It doesn't matter the stuffing get the pretzel bun, you won't regret it! Service was prompt, organized and pleasant. Plenty of outdoor seating if you wanted to stick around and enjoy you purchase. This is a nice large bakery packed with goodies: pies, donuts, soft pretzels, brownies, cookies, jams, pastries, little gift items, and a made to order counter for hot sandwiches and pizzas. There are so many choices! We ended up with a pepperoni pizza, cherry pie, two glazed donuts and a Reese Dreams (2 cookies with a frosting filling and a topping with chocolate drizzle). Everything was very tasty and the donuts were especially good. The Reese Dreams was very decadent! The bakery has a really nice patio set up out front, with a variety of picnic tables and tables and chairs. There's a decent sized gravel parking lot, as well as an overflow parking lot. Oh my! Totally unexpected! We were just out driving and happened upon this place and saw all the cars. Had to stop (it was lunch time). I had a corned beef sandwich on a soft pretzel and DH had the chicken salad on soft pretzel! Really good. Order inside, sit outside, and they bring it to you. In the middle of God's country (3 miles of the state road) lies a little gem of a bakery. We only had pretzels and doughnuts but everything looked delicious. It was a windy rainy day or we would have enjoyed the numerous picnic tables with scenic farm views. There is no indoor public bathroom and they only take cash- so go prepared and with an appetite for yumminess. Pretzels are buttery and enormous. Sandwich menu is quite limited. So we were here in the area to go camping. I had looked up things to do in the area prior to our visit. Once I saw this place offers jalapeno pretzels, I had to make it a point to come in. This place is a small gem and it seems that everyone knows it. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and they were packed, inside and out. If I have anything negative to say it would be that they are not following their rule of 14 people inside a time. The line was out the door and all the way around the inside! Im in PARADISE when i step inside this bakery! The drive to Country Crust is about 1 hour 20 minutes southwest of Columbus. The absolute must purchases for me are the homemade pretzels, fry pies, whoopie pies and the reuban sandwich. Theres plenty of walking trails close to Country Crust Bakery. So we order our housemade sandwiches from the bakery, pick up our pastries, and check out one of the scenic walking trails. Its an open Amish bakery which means as your standing in line to make your purchases, its fun to watch the homemade pretzels being made behind the counter. Be aware, its cash only. Omg, i forgot about the apple fritters. Their huge and have a ton of apples in each apple fritter. DELICIOUS! Need a litlle road trip for delicious homemade items. This is the place! read more

I used to live near this bakery and visited their store at least once a week for several years. The building is small and run entirely by the Amish. You will not find better products anywhere! The apple fritters are absolutely wonderful. The homemade pretzels are worth every penny.. so make sure you get there early enough that they aren't sold out. Whoopie pies are great, in every flavor. I have no complaints on anything they have there. I've bought it all.. from butter to pizzas to pretzels. You absolutely HAVE to try the pretzels if you don't try anything else. Around the holidays the fruitcake cannot be beat. It's not like any you've ever had. This is a wonderful place to get great homemade baked goods. read more

We ate turkey Rueben's for lunch and bought pumpkin bars for an evening snack. The sandwiches were served hot with loads of sauerkraut and 1000 island dressing. The pumpkin bars were more like pumpkin cake, super moist, and topped with frosted and chopped pecans. The line inside went pretty fast and there were lots of tables outside for eating. read more

Wow! We spent a week camping at Paint Creek State Park. Our first visit to the Country Crust was on our first full day of camping. I followed the other reviewers suggestions to try the pretzel bread. WOW---best bakery ever! My husband and I stopped at Country Crust Bakery during a recent road-trip and we were amazed at the selection of items they had available. Everything... donuts, cakes, pies, breads, turnovers, muffins, whoopie pies, honey, made to order sandwiches and pizza, and beverages. Then there were the pretzels.... Within a span of less than 24 hours I had eaten two (they're pretty big!) of my own and half of one of my husband's and I also purchased some to take home and freeze. The woman at the counter kindly wrapped them individually in plastic wrap for me, too! The smell of the bakery nearly put me into a sugar coma, as did the delicious pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting!
