Today, we went in to just get water for our saltwater tank and we'll, typically there is never a problem. The fish seemed priced higher which ok, with the current economy I guess they have to. The guy that helped us though seemed a bit in a hurry, but noticed he was open and carrying his gun on his hip. Being someone that has been in a tough situation with guns, just felt uncomfortable and didn't expect that. I mean, it's just not for me. I paid for my water, was going to get other things, but the employee carrying a gun made me feel like the area wasn't safe and or that I wasn't going to be safe. So I just left. I feel bad because literally I come here often but, I think I am going to have to just drive to the North Dallas Aquarium now. read more

If there was a tier list for my favorite store in the DFW area then I wouldn't be able to place anything at the same level as this. Each time I have visited there is an employee that discontinues what they are doing to assist me. HOWEVER! In the event that I would like to browse on my own, they leave me alone until I need assistance. Each staff member is very knowledgeable about their craft and don't hesitate do perform demonstrations and pull from experience when I ask about strange occurrences in my tank. I couldn't ask for a better store nearby! read more

So I went to this store on 09/04/2024 and bought a about 5-6 fish, 2 was the electric blue jack Dempsey, well the next morning I noticed 1 fish didn't make it , so I call the store to ask if my mom could bring the fish back for me, I have never had to bring a fish back my entire life from any pet store so I didn't discuss the return policy, so when I call I explain very clear that " the fish never left the area of the aquarium where he went when first placed in the tank ( 220gal) it's nothing big enough to eat the fish, I also explained the other Dempsey is fine and relocated to the other end of the tank" the guy said did u have the water test I replied yes it's a petsmart 2 minutes from my house so he said the owner still might require u to bring in a sample I say ok I just want to make sure if I send my mom it won't be a issue exchanging the fish. Then when the employee returned he started asking other stuff like the company looking for a reason not to replace the fish, I explained again the fish was not damaged meaning nothing bit the fish and I'm willing to bring fish to show proof with a water sample, so at this point I'm not even sure what else would be needed or what else would of caused the fish to die if I'm willing to bring fish and water sample. So it's not that serious for me to beg someone to do the right thing , just note if u buy a fish from here and it dies your going to have to do 99 plus things before they will accept responsibility. read more

Love this place! I bought some pea puffers from here, and they're happy in my new tank. They were more than happy to help me with any questions I had when I set my puffer tank up for the first time. The tanks for the most part are clean, the saltwater tanks were somewhat clean, but I imagine it may be harder to keep up. Nice atmosphere as well. ve been coming to this place since I was a child. It had always been my favorite for fish. I recently came in after not having had fish for quite awhile, looking for some for my son. The owner has always been amazingly sweet and helpful and I've never once had an issue until today. The younger gentleman who helped me could not have been more condescending if he'd tried. I asked for 2 tetra from one tank and 2 tetra from another. I'd done this before years ago, and the owner had no issue selling them to me. Why the younger gentleman decided to tell me there would need to be a school of them with the attitude of an adult reprimanding a child is beyond me. He was very short while telling me this, and felt no need to elaborate. Simply giving me the bare minimum of information. I then ask for a Cory Cat, which again I've only bought one of from here in the past, and yet again he speaks to me as if I'm a child. After speaking to me this way, he was then EXTREMELY dismissive of me, as though I've become an inconvenience. Had he spoken to me like we're both grown, I'd have bought the 9 in total he'd recommended. This gentleman is a child himself. It's obvious he's had exactly zero training in customer service and will absolutely run more customers away. He certainly made sure I won't be coming back. Unfortunate that the big box stores have better customer service. Seems the Fish Place is going downhill. read more

We drove 80 miles to come to this store. Very glad we did. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Even though we are new to the salt water side of this hobby, we never felt intimidated by our basic questions. The prices are good, and the selection of fish and corals is quite impressive. Beautiful fish. Bought 2 Pygmy Corydoras today. Within 5 hours; one is doing great and one has died. Called them and it's just "Sorry, there is always a risk when buying live animals." Unfortunate. Again, beautiful fish. Just not worth the risk. You would figure that one would have some kind of confidence in their specialty. Even the pet stores, that people are usually so against, have a 14 to 30 day guarantee. I tried buying from a local shop, wish is more expensive, because people say to buy local and I thought a change would be nice but I learned my lesson today. Very good selection of fresh and saltwater fish/invertebrates and aquatic plants, but very very very expensive. The staff seems to be at least somewhat knowledgeable, although there are a few employees that are way too rough with the fish, stressing them out. Additionally, The Fish Place prides themselves so much on the quality of their livestock that they offer no guarantees--which seems like a contradictory statement. If the fish were that good, then offering a guarantee/warranty period should be no big deal, right? I purchased a betta fish and a large black mystery snail here a few weeks ago. They went into an uninhabited, cycled, 10 gallon tank planted thoroughly with ample hiding spots. I acclimated them perfectly according to instructions given by the staff, which coincided with my own fishkeeping knowledge. He ate once a day--betta fish pellets in the morning, only as much as he could eat within about a minute or two so as to not overfeed or pollute the tank. My betta fish died yesterday. Water parameters: pH 7.4, ammonia 0ppm, nitrites 0ppm, nitrates 5ppm, temperature of 78 degrees. There is no reason my betta fish should have died. The only conclusion is that their "quality livestock" is not as high quality as they want you to think. I lost a very beautiful fish that I had grown quite attached to and have no way of obtaining any of the money back (Petco, the place I got my other betta in my other tank, has a 30-day return policy on their live fish). My snail is doing great so far, but unfortunately, I can't trust anything else from this store. Buyer beware. read more

It is located next to Ridgmar Mall in the shopping strip that includes Woody Creek BBQ and Pho's Little Saigon. The staff is extremely friendly and we were greeted as soon as we stepped in. That was a nice change of pace from the apathy shown by the staff members in other stores in the area. The shop itself is a little on the dirty side but nothing you can't handle. Plenty of food, plants, and tanks on sale including a couple custom sized tanks as well. Currently, there's a bunch of construction in the vicinity so please be mindful of that. All in all, a pretty good place to browse at fishes (both fresh and salt water). The selection of fish is somewhat limited, especially considering that there are multiple tanks with the orange clown fish Nemo made famous. On that note, just keep swimming... =] read more

I bought a couple fish a few months back I picked a couple out of their beautiful tank to the left as you go back by the neon's tank is on the right . When the gentleman helping me said those aren't for sale but I have some over here they were plain fish white black spot, I said they don't look anything like the fish in the tank. He advised they will color up takes about 3 days and as they grow larger. That's been several months back the fish are very big compared to when purchased. Not happy at all with this salesman the owners would do good to advise there salesman not to lie this is the 2nd time this has happened to me Ive been there 2 times there will not be a 3rd! read more

I realized after purchasing that their fish are over priced! After my original store was aquatic store was closed for the day I decided I would purchase shrimp with the fish place I bought 9 totaling a little over $100 I asked the young man who assisted me in getting the shrimp how long I should acclimate the shrimp and if I should pour water into the bag from my tank his response was "just float them for 12 minutes that's what we do here and they do fine".. trusting the associate because this store has great reviews I floated them for 12 minutes then released. After about a minute I noticed 1 shrimp was on his back! I called the store asked if I could maybe do a exchange maybe it was ill before purchasing. They told me the do not do any exchanges/refunds or anything else. I am a stay at home mom and used the last of my money for these shrimp so I was devastated when I further researched and found out the person who helped me gave me wrong information!! I was suppose to drip acclimate the shrimp for about 3 hours to adjust to my ph level etc which are at a ideal level for the shrimp but I am told the local stores ph and mines has to be pretty spot on for them to not go into shock and die.. I now have 4 dead shrimp and counting! I realized after purchasing that their fish are completely over priced! I now wish I would have just waited for my original store to open up the next day instead of rushing to these folks. I will not be going back to this store anymore but will be shopping at fish paradise as usual. read more

We have been coming here for close to 10 years. We would drive for 2 hours to come here from where we lived, but now we have moved to Ft Worth and have visited the store almost every week for the past 2 years. We LOVE the staff; Jerry, Lori, and Carla. They have become like family to us. My kids love them all, too. We have traveled across the metroplex, looking for other "perfect" stores to compare The Fish Place to, but have not found anything compatable to The Fish Place. My husband and I needed a place to get help with our freshwater set up. We started at PetSmart (I know - don't judge). The people at Fish Place were very friendly and very knowledgeable. We found out that one of our PetSmart fish had been mislabeled and instead of being a friendly addition - he was an aggressor and ate the community, but not before giving them ick. The Fish Place people were able to help us get on the right track, and even offered to find a home for "killer".
