Well Famous Rays has been in Verona for 40 years now, and I know I've passed it for at least the last 20. I finally stopped in for lunch and enjoyed an excellent slice of pizza. This is a place where you walk in and the counter is in front of you with lots of pies to choose from. The seating is all on stools around the windows. Service is all business, not much small talk. While I sat there and ate, there was a steady stream of customers coming in and out. I had a sausage slice which was very good. The crust was just the right thickness and the sausage, cheese, and sauce, very tasty. This specialty slice and small soda was $5.60, pretty reasonable. I'm glad I finally stopped in. If you're in Verona, give it a try!

They have always been the best.. until this evening my husband went to pick up a mushroom pie .. it was disgusting.. very disappointed, we do alot of business here and it's always been the best.. hope it was an off day for them.

    Yummy Pizza!

Update: The Famous Ray's Pizza continues to have fresh and delicious pizza by the slice and whole. The baked ziti is good too. Along with regular soft drinks, Ray's offer expresso. Take out and Uber delivery are available!

Ordered me up a spinach roll and a meatball roll. Was pretty good. Definitely filled me up.

Quick service. Great selection. We had the meat pizza slice. Cheese was delicious, plenty of toppings. Crust was crispy and light. Very flavorful. Great experience!

Pizza was very okay. We called in an order and it was ready on time. The garlic knots were good (5/5). The pizza was very okay. Crust- 2/5- very large crust on the pie, thick and chewy Sauce- 4/5- good flavor Cheese- 2/5 kind of tastes like plastic It wasn't the worst pizza, but there's definitely better in the neighborhood. We did take out so I can't review the service much. There was no "hi" anything, I don't think they said one word to me actually.

Cheese not melted and definitely not falling off.

If it's good enough for Strahan it's good enough for me! Big slices and tons of variety to choose from.

When you've been around greatness, you know it when you taste it…read more Tony D's Pizza in Caldwell is championship-level--no question. This is some of the best pizza in Essex County, period. From the crust to the sauce, everything is dialed in like a Super Bowl game plan. ***3 1/2 stars***…read more Maybe it lost something in transit or I didn't get the right pie, but I wasn't blown away by this place. I've had Tony D's on my list for a while, knowing it had a solid reputation amongst the North Jersey Italians (and what better demo to have it from?). Yesterday was a perfect opportunity to order/grab some pizza and bring it over to my top-tier chum in nearby Montclair for lunch. I didn't do a ton of recon so maybe there was a more obvious/modern method to ordering, but from what I could tell, this place was pretty old school and I just picked up the phone and called over - honestly can't remember the last time I did that, but it brought a nice whiff of nostalgia for me after years of ordering on apps. Didn't realize that Tony D's is literally right around the corner from my BFF Cloverleaf, so the location is pretty convenient if you're in the area. The parking in Caldwell can be pretty annoying, and even though I'm sure I could have rolled the dice I paid a little less than a dollar to park up the street further into a residential neighborhood. Given that Tony D's is exclusively delivery/pickup joint, I think they should pay for the spots right in front as a courtesy to their customers coming in and out; maybe they do and I missed it but if not... Anyway. The guy behind the counter was VERY nice/friendly, and even though I was a few minutes early based on the estimated ETA off my phone call, the pizza literally had just come out of the oven and was ready to rock. From that vantage point, top-notch service. The specific pie that seemed to be their go-to was the Drunken Grandma, which is usually one of my favorites (vodka sauce on pizza should be much more prevalent in my opinion) but I wasn't crazy about the chunks of tomato on it. In hindsight, would have been easy to pick off or even to request that they not be included to begin with, so that would be my recommendation based on this experience. I opted for a square plain pie, especially since I knew that a few young pups would likely be sampling the wares; seemed like an overall safe bet. Optics-wise, I thought it looked very good, and I don't regret going square here. The crust for me was probably the best part, and I made sure to strategically grab all of the corner pieces once we started eating. Nice crisp to it for sure. The overall taste of the pie just wasn't my thing. I wasn't crazy about the sauce (maybe another argument for the vodka sauce, right?) and the cheese was just okay. Tasted to me more like generic by the slice pizza, which isn't my preference. My top-tier chum liked it more than I did, so definitely could just be an issue with palate preference here but this might have suffered from inflated expectations. I'd give them another shot if a similar circumstance presented itself, but I'd go with the pie it's known for - there's a reason the Drunken Grandma is front and center in almost every review. Learn from me.

We're still slowly working our way through local spots, and Brick + Dough was highly recommended to us. We started with garlic knots, bread, and fries, and honestly... 10/10 across the board. Everything was SO good. The fries especially are still living rent free in my head. We then split three pizzas, all of which were seriously incredible. The perfect balance of cheese, sauce, and crust, just absolutely nailed. We ended the night with cookies and ice cream, and I can confidently say this place will be seeing me again very, very soon. It might even end up replacing our current go-to pizza spot...

The service was nice, especially because even though we were the only table sitting outside, they were consistently coming out to make sure we were doing OK and had everything we needed. We ordered some garlic knots, which were good, it just seemed a little bit pricey to charge for the marinara sauce separately, which was not really outstanding nor something special, so I would recommend you skip it. We also ordered the chicken vodka Parm pie which was very good. The chicken was very crispy and the pizza was still delicious the next day when we had the leftovers. One of her friends is allergic to gluten, so it was very nice that they were able to accommodate for her. I do wanna point out that we have been to many places that offer gluten-free options and this is the first one I've been to that does charge you extra to make a gluten-free. In terms of price, it is very similar to the other places in Montclair but they do provide very good service and the ambience both outside and inside is very nice.

The hostess asked if we had a reservation, (?) it was just myself and my daughter. We did not , just looking for a quick bite before a show, and actually used the word "quick" to her. She apologetically said we could only be seated at a high top without a reservation.... Ok . Well I'm 64 with a bad hip and mentioned that but she shrugged . We needed to eat , so I stayed. Not even 10 minutes later a couple came in and was seated by the hostess at another high top . The woman , my age as well, shrugged and looked at me as the hostess explained the " reservation " concept in a basically large EMPTY restaurant. I laughed with her and said how I hate high tops too, and patted my hip. Out of nowhere a heavy set ( using this description so he can be identified) dark haired man came over to them and kindly offered a regular table as long as they were done in 1.5 hrs which was when their reservations started!!! I looked at the woman , said " good for you, I guess I didn't complain loud enough " JOKINGLY!!!! He came back to our table and used a NASTY TONE, saying " THEY DIDNT COMPLAIN, I HAPPENED TO HEAR THEM TALKING!" Yes, they were talking to ME. He was soo RUDE. I felt attacked and wanted to leave but we had already ordered and I'm not that type of person! We used to eat there frequently and THIS visit reminded us why we stopped!! The food is just OK, and to be made to feel like this is NOT OK. Your 3 star review rating is very clear to me now. $50 for a plain pizza and small salad is easily spent elsewhere!
