Came here to get a snowball. Eskimo Shack is located in the heart of Arbutus. They had a decent menu of snowball flavors and other cold treats (splits, sundaes, shakes, etc.) We ordered the traditional snowball with egg custard flavoring (you could also get it stuffed with ice cream). The service was fast and efficient. A pleasant young lady took our order and it was ready within minutes. The ambiance was chill, but we came after a group of kids, so it was probably a bit hectic taking all of those orders. They have a decent menu amount of outside seating to enjoy your treats onsite. Our snowballs had that finely crushed, fluffy ice that we liked. The egg custard flavoring was a bit off tasting for us. Maybe it was that particular flavor; we won't discount this place because we saw someone get a banana split and it looked good! All in all, a nice corner snowball stand to come and get a nice, cold treat, especially on a hot day. We'll try another flavor and the banana split in our next visit for sure! read more

Medium snowball w ice cream is $6, 0.75 for a swirl of marshmallow, the cups are cheap,no longer styrofoam, so they leaked all over... and the server got my second snowball order completely wrong! Snowballs are Baltimore must have. They are very simple but not everyone can get it right. If the ice is to chunky or to thin (like shaved ice) ... Then it can throw of the authenticity of the snowball. Also the syrup is really important, you want good flavor, you also want the syrup to be able to " hold on" to the ice. If....... When the ice melts, you want the syrup to still cut through a bit. I know this sounds like a bit much.... But any true Baltimorian has had a horrible rough chunky ice snowball that you have thrown in the trash. And on the flip side..... You've had that perfectly balanced sweet with nice smooth ice snowball. The Snowballs from here are flip side. Also nice flavor choices, but NOT that one with an overwhelming 509 flavors to choose from. They also have other treats, I can't wait to try them. read more

The Eskimo Shack is a cute little place where you can get a nice frozen treat~ Food: I've been here a number of times. I've gotten an Avalanche, a Snowball, and a Blizzard. And they have such a large variety of flavors available that is sure to please. The Snowball is a scoop of flavored ice that has a really light and soft texture that's easy to eat. The Blizzard has a scoop of icecream in between scoops of the Snowball. It gives a more wholesome and substantial feeling. The icecream is super creamy that really goes well against the snowball. The Avalanche is a behemoth of icecream! You certainly get your money's worth compared to other joints that also sell ice cream. If you're looking for something to share, or wanna be filled up on icecream, I'd recommend this sunday. Service: The staff is nice and inviting, and the wait time is super short! And the treats are decently priced. Atmosphere: It's an actual cute little shack. But it also has a sitting area right next to it with benches and tables to just sit and chat as you're enjoying your icecream. Finish: A great place to go if ya want a nice frozen treat. Truly a hidden gem! The Ube and Flan toppings for their featured ice creams is homemade, and I believe the waffle cones are as well! If you're filipino or love filipino desserts, you can definitely tell that their ube is not from the jar! We've tried most of the items this place has to offer, from the snow balls, halo halo, and the sundaes. I am not an ice cream person, but my husband loves ice cream, and this little place has gotten me to increase my ice cream intake! Plus, the very friendly staff has us always coming back! My husband is excited every year for this place to open, and had set up a savings jar, JUST for Eskimo Shack... we try to make it only Eskimo Shack, as we want to support a genuinely great local place, and fellow filipinos as well. read more

Came here to try out the halo halo. You can find street parking in the area and it's free. It was $8 without tax and was a pretty good sized serving, definitely share with another person unless you can eat a lot. It doesn't seem like the traditional stuff because it was vanilla soft serve on top instead of ube. Still pretty good though. They had a bunch of toppings like red&green jelly, flan, coconut, this purple jam(?) and jackfruit. I enjoyed it except at the end because the "snow cone" melted together to a block of ice. Probably wouldn't get it again, but it was nice to try. Probably will just get a plain snowball next time. If you want something icy and sweet, I would recommend trying Korean bingsoo; it's usually cheaper, prettier, and you can share between 3-4 people. read more

Went here with a friend after hitting the gym because we deserved a treat lol. We ordered the halo halo, which costed $8 flat, no tax. The portion size was HUGE. It's definitely something to share with 1-2 other people. On top of the shaved ice there was vanilla ice cream, jackfruit, caramel-flavored flan (?), and some jello-like toppings. The presentation is cute, but the toppings were almost overflowing so you would have to carefully eat your way around. Everything was good until the middle and end, where we had to hack at the blocks of ice to break it apart. That was a bit of a hassle to just eat some dessert. I lived in Arbutus for many years and the Eskimo Shack is a beloved local institution. As such it really deserves more than a measly 3 stars. I would note that the Rita's chain outlet in Arbutus did not last long (probably overpriced for this area based on my experiences at other Rita's) and there was once a competing snowball shack across from Eskimo Shack that the Eskimo Shack handily put out of business, so that should tell you all you need to know. Eskimo Shack serves things other than snowballs, or so I read by their menu, but really, the snowballs are why everybody goes. (If you want ice cream, the Ice Cream Cottage a hop skip and jump away has that.) There are many flavors of snowball, they are reasonably cheap, and you can walk to the Shack from your house if you live in the neighborhood (and many people and families do), or if you drive you can probably find a parking spot along the street. The Eskimo Shack rules. Every little town should have one. read more

Great snowballs and ice cream but super high prices. Large snowball is $3. At a place within walking distance a large will cost you $1.75. If you mix 2 flavors (same amount of syrup) it will cost you an extra 75 cents. During parades and festivals they jack up the prices. A normally $1 can of coke will cost you $2. The owners of the Eskimo Shack also have a piece of property in the community that is an eyesore. We fought for them to be able to build the shack but they don't seem to care about the local residents. read more

Irene was the name of the meanest teacher I ever had so no fond memories of that name. So when hit by the hurricane this weekend the name still haunts me as we have been with out power since Saturday. My ice cream is now a milkshake and I needed some dessert. Headed to Arbutus which it just around the corner and thought I would just grab a gelati at Rita's or an ice cream cone at the Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor. But it was weird as they had no power but the other side of the street did. So when we passed "the shack" and saw a line we decided to get a soft serve there. They advertised premium ice cream and Hawaiian type snowballs. I would have tried the snowballs as that what everyone was getting but already had a mind set for ice cream. The line was long but it moved quickly. You ordered at one window and quickly out the second window came the orders. I ordered a twist of both chocolate and vanilla and got to pick my kind of cone from five samples on the counter. It was delicious. Rich and creamy and reminded me of the old Twin Kiss in my neighborhood when I was younger. We would ride our bikes to get one! I love it when flavors trigger memories. All the tables on the side were filled with people enjoying their snow balls. So we took a little stroll down the streets of Arbutus and decided next time we will be back to try the snowballs.
