    Monocacy Mud Ice Cream

The place has that small town charm--bright, welcoming and full of sweet aromas. The staff are incredibly friendly. I went with Monocacy Mud waffle cone and it was a pure bliss. I am going back soon for another one. They also have non-dairy sorbets, which is such a thoughtful touch for those with dietary needs. Prices are fair, portions are generous (even the kiddie size!), and the ice cream is sourced from South Mountain Creamery, so it's farm-fresh goodness in every scoop. Catonsville Scoops delivers on both flavors and community spirit.

Cute little shop and great addition to the Main Street in Catonsville. We stopped by here after dinner and enjoyed a small scoop of ice cream. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Mi love that there is seating behind the building to enjoy your scoop. The hot fudge was delicious!

Waffle cone with salted caramel ice cream

Scoops opened in April 2024 and is hoping to be THE spot for good local ice cream in Catonsville. On our first visit, my family and I noticed how popular it was and what fun flavor offerings there are. The inside is a little cramped (about 10 customers can fit at a time), so don't be shocked by a line out the door. There are laminated menus outside so folks can peruse and be ready to order once they're inside. There were three folks on staff. They are clearly working hard, but I think they're still figuring out the system. Sometimes one or two of them would be filling the order while the other looked unsure of what to do (ring up the order? grab the next item on the order?). They are happy to offer samples, speaking of which: The ice cream is all courtesy of South Mountain Creamery in Middletown. It's all decent, with a few standouts. I got the salted caramel which was perfect. Not too sweet or salty, but a perfect balance. Would get again. The Apple Pie was intriguing but they had run out. I got some new flavor that was sort of like "Moose Tracks" with a peanut butter and chocolate cup ice cream - it was alright. I think there was a miscommunication and I ended up NOT getting Cookie Butter in my cone but I definitely want to try that one next time. My wife was unsure if her sundae actually contained strawberry ice cream because it was a rather pale-looking ice cream and the strawberry flavor is there, but mild. Plenty of toppings (the kiddos love their sprinkles and cherry!), so feel free to customize to your liking. Prices are decent and despite the line, they move you through quickly. There are plenty of picnic tables out back by the bike shop and parking lot. I'm pretty sure I'll be back.

Really loved our trip to Scoops last night. Great flavors of ice cream that's rich and creamy! Love that they sell a kiddie portion as ice cream does not care for me these days. We enjoyed Coconut Joy and I got a cookie ice cream I've forgotten the name of because I tried three ice cream, which btw were all tasty! Great little neighborhood shop! Friendly staff, all with smiles!

One of the top three ice cream places that I have eaten. As good as some gelato I have eaten in Rome. It has a perfect texture and stretches out. Flavors of black raspberry and a pumpkin were really great. Generous portions sizes. Bought a pint of pumpkin and a pint of apple pie. If you're in the area, it a must try and even worth a drive there if you aren't too close.

So many options! The staff was very helpful and couldn't have been more polite to my children. It's now a weekly event for our family.

I had the pineapple soft serve with gummy frogs , gummy worms, and gummy bears. There were so many things you can add to your icecream. Didn't really like the open ver for fear that some kid would use their hands to grab the candy instead of using the tongs. The pineapple flavor was really good. I would like to see cherry or orange flavor. The store was very clean. The service was fast and polite. I'm certainly coming back.

I tried the horchata and dulce de leche. After you get your frozen yogurt, you slide down to pick from the huge variety of toppings. My kids liked piling gummy worms on their sundaes. They even have a bunch of sauces ranging from fruity to more savory like peanut butter. Whipped cream optional, but I say go for it; it won't add much to the overall weight. The lady behind the counter seemed super busy; she was on the phone when we came in, but took the time to greet us. She had some small knickknacks for the kiddos as we paid - nice touch. The food is as fine as you make it. I'm partial to ice cream over frozen yogurt, but mix and match some toppings and you can make a very delightful dessert experience indeed! The seating is limited to wall benches and plastic chairs. Our family of five were able to squeeze around one of the small tables since Child #3 is still in a baby carrier, but in a few years we'll have to spread to two tables. It's not the most comfortable, but it's not horrible either. Lots of folks came in and took their food to go. Not bad. Come on and load up your frozen yogurt sundae!

Introduction to history & deciding to go there:…read more Just read an article yesterday that Crazy Mason will be closing at the end of August. I was in old town Ellicott City on Saturday, April 18 for their Springfest. The only times I end up venturing to downtown is when there's some event going on. We were meeting up with my friend & his family. My friend's brother mentioned Crazy Mason was excellent and that they were very close to the concert stage area we were. I said to my girlfriend I'd be game to try them out to split a shake. Having one by myself is a lot of sugar, so splitting is a more sensible option, not to mention less total cost. This was originally the Ellicott Theater in the 1940's & 50's. Various performing artists, discotheque, etc. had its spot. It's cool this Crazy Mason milkshake place took over this space. Unusual for anything in the ice cream category to have such a large space. I also learned that they started in Myrtle Beach. I could see why as it's a touristy beach area, which various ice cream shops and some more unique options are more common than say in Howard County, MD. Although old town Ellicott City doesn't have the level of tourism that Myrtle Beach would, they have some and of course many locals who go here. In 2024, I had a friend in town, and we drove him up to old town Ellicott City to look around. I just read they started in June 2020 during Covid. The Ellicott City location opened in 2022. It's unfortunate they only lasted 4 years as they were outstanding. My experience: The staff was friendly. We asked for recommendations. The younger guy who was taking orders & making shakes, enthusiastically made a couple of suggestions to us. We settled on the Cookie Mashup, which was a shake with chocolate chip cookie, chocolate syrup, cookie dough bites, cookies n' cream, crushed chips ahoy, crushed Oreo, vanilla buttercream, whipped icing, and [deep breath] a whole Oreo on top. We opted to get it in their souvenir Crazy Mason jar, which is in a mason jar. We sat in the many seats on a lower level with a stage in the background. We waited maybe 10 minutes as they were pretty busy on that Saturday of Springfest. Wow, this shake was outstanding! One of the best shakes I've ever had. It was some flavorful with a lot of great ingredients. We both loved it. I will say it was quite messy, but it was worth it! The price was pretty expensive, but it was an experience. And I would get again, but it's quite unlikely I'll be in old town Ellicott City between today 8/11 & the end of August when they close. We asked the older gentleman who was the cashier & giving the finished shakes if we could wrap the mess we left behind on the mason jar. He said let me give you a new clean jar, which I thought was very nice, and let us keep the used jar too wrapping both of them carefully. In summary, I wish they were staying open for much longer than the next 3 weeks as they really were great and very nice staff/owner too!

Since we had just finished lunch, we didn't want one of the huge expensive milkshakes they are known for, although they did look delicious. Instead, my friend and went for one of our favorite treats: pineapple dole whip, swirled with non-dairy vanilla ice cream (for me) and of course, topped with rainbow sprinkles. The serving was large, and our order was ready quickly. Can't go wrong with dole whip, although the non-dairy ice cream was kind of flavorless. Still delicious though. The place is huge (it used to be an old theater) with plenty of tables. There is also a small game room up front with arcade games. Lots of cute murals on the wall to help capture the moment. There were also annoying gnats flying around, so I think next time I'll eat outside, but I will definitely be back.
