This is THE soft serve ice cream place. The basic favors are where you start; vanilla, chocolate, or swirl. Then you have endless options of toppings or add ins. It's a perfect spot for a hot summer day. What makes me take away a star is actually all their new trendy things. 10 years ago this place was simple, you knew your order, and there was no confusion on the menu. With new owners, over the past few years they have extended the menu, quickly has been lost, and the menu is simply too much. We went here as a family to enjoy some soft serve ice cream! It's so crazy how few softer spots exist (compared to regular ice cream spots) in the area so I was really excited to try this place. And this place did not disappoint! They had a good amount of soft serve flavors (obviously not as many as an ice cream shop but def more than the typical vanilla or vanilla with orange swirl). However, training for new item of the season needs to keep up. We ordered the new strawberries dip in hot milk chocolate and none of them knew how to make it, so they tried their best to make something that look like the picture Not till later, another young man came in who knew how it should be made.... But too late. Outside of what's mentioned, the tables and chairs can definitely use a good wipe down. Some of the stains on the counter and tables seemed has been there for some time. If you like Carvel, this is the place. Plentiful amount of soft serve for $5. Interesting toppings, such as twinklecote, which is a mix of nuts, toffee, and rainbow sprinkles. Ended up getting vanilla/chocolate twist with twinklecote. Was the perfect consistency, like that of Carvel. Based on the dates of reviews, it sounds like Soft Stuff used to have a much more attentive staff and people were having really awesome interactions. I'm kind of disappointed that the service I received last night was so poor, since the ice cream was pretty good. Based on the interior, the store is very millennial-core with a hedge wall and chintzy neon lights. Despite that, the two people who served me were teenage girls, maybe around high school age. It seems like a pretty evident disconnect with management and customer-facing staff. The ice cream itself was fine. My wife ordered a kiddie cone of pistachio soft serve and it was mountainous, seriously the size of their kiddie ice cream was incredibly generous. The ice cream was pretty tasty too! It was like going to the beach and getting Kohr Bros! I, on the other hand, made the critical mistake of ordering a bubble waffle sundae... The particular one I ordered was on the menu as a Biscoff/Cookie Butter Bubble Waffle. It was supposed to be a bubble waffle, vanilla soft serve, Biscoff syrup, a Biscoff cookie, cookie crumbs, whipped cream, and two Pocky sticks. Very indulgent. Initially, the girl at the register said "We actually need to make that bubble waffle fresh for you so it'll be about 3 to 5 minutes. Is that okay?" After preparing my wife's cone, we stood to the side and waited for my ice cream to come out. Two separate families came in, which seemingly bumped my order down the line. Each of the two groups that arrived after me, a couple of two and a family of three got their ice cream and were in and out. Only after serving those families first did a second girl come out of the back and poke her head out to look at the menu on the side of the counter to see what ingredients went into the bubble waffle sundae. I continued to watch as the girl made my bubble waffle sundae and prepared it, only to put it in the fridge by the counter. I was a bit confused but figured she needed to cool off the waffle. I went on my phone and a few moments later, a blond high-school-aged boy entered the store and skipped the line. The girl opens the fridge and gives the boy the sundae which I had assumed was mine, explaining "I got this order wrong but you can have it if you want." The boy was kind of dismissive and started talking about going somewhere with another girl, which I guess peaked my wife's interest enough to eavesdrop. Upon further discussion, it sounds like the girl at the counter gave him the sundae as a way to flirt, but got frustrated because he was taking another girl out... Anyways, by now like 15 minutes had passed and my wife is nearly finished her massive cone. It seems like they were able to remake my bubble waffle sundae, and after a few minutes handed it to me. It was fine, but I guess a bit too sweet. Realistically, I will never go back to Soft Stuff because the conduct of the staff last night was entirely abhorrent. Try Bruster's instead. read more

Barbie's not much into Soft Stuff if you know what I mean, but when it comes to ice cream, she makes an exception, although I think we both like the hard kind better (yes still talking about ice cream). This is a cute little soft serve place inside the massive overstuffed complicated outdoor shopping plaza in Ellicott City, which I think is called Forest Green. It says that they're closed down temporarily and I'm not sure that's fair cuz they always did have seasonal hours. So they're not closed down, they're just offseason. So when spring comes and the temperatures go up a little bit you can look forward to more standard and interesting soft serve, and the kids here are friendly, and the products are clearly geared more towards kids. From its over saturated decor to its supermarket brand sugar cones, everything screams 90s. Soft Stuff offers a variety of soft serve flavors and toppings, including 3 "swirl" flavors that combine two of their classic flavors. If you want something to drink, you can always order a milk shake made from the soft serve. The soft serve itself is exactly how you'd expect, machine made, creamy, and light. Portions are extremely generous, to the point where I can't recommend their Large or Waffle Cone sizes unless you plan to share. There's nothing particularly special about Soft Stuff, but that's where it shines the most, in its simplicity. You always know exactly what you'll get and it's hard to be disappointed with a massive mound of chocolate soft serve, coated in chocolate sprinkles. If I have to nitpick, I'll give two. First, Soft Stuff is cash only, which does play in to the 90s nostalgia vibe, but that's one piece of the 90s I can do without. The second is on occasion, there is an old man behind the register who is very sweet, but is hard of hearing and sometimes requires you to repeatedly place your order before he understands what you want. Ole Reliable! I've been getting ice cream here since I was a kid, and they were a tiny little wood cottage. This is a nice spot to get traditional soft serve with all the fixins. They have a good amount of seating, indoor and out. It's not crazy expensive compared to other ice cream places. But adding toppings will rack up the cost real quick. BRING CASH. Im glad this icecream shop is not near where I live, I would be there so often! I checked out this icecream shop after going to the korean restauraunt in the back of the plaza with a friend. We were greeted by an older gentleman, and he was funny and asked us, "why arent you guys in school?" He thought we were high schoolers, but my friend is 26 and Im 22.
