I had dinner nearby with friends and family and we were all craving dessert so we decided to visit Kyo Matcha on a Sunday evening. Parking wasn't ideal, the nearby parking garage was very compact and difficult to maneuver. There is some street parking in front, but it was all taken when we visited. I ordered the Lavender Matcha Latte along with some desserts and ice cream. All items came out quickly and just as ordered. I don't have a bad thing to say about the menu. There is plenty of seating inside, making it a great option for dessert with large groups. We had 7 adults and 2 kids with no issues finding seating during our visit. The staff were kind enough to make conversation with my toddler. I appreciated their patience as I encouraged him to order for himself at the counter. Overall, a great experience and I would definitely come back if I am ever back in the area again :) read more

Nice vibe in here! All things matcha! Coffee, desserts! I was nearby for the tree lighting and just happened to see this place. Never noticed it before. Love the decor and ambiance. Friendly staff. I ordered a vanilla latte via the kiosk and it was ready pretty quickly. My drink tasted great and the price wasn't bad. read more

The soft serve here is so good! They have self order kiosks or you can order from the front cashier. The matcha swirl is the perfect way to end a meal when you're in the merriweather area for dinner. I also enjoy the hojicha flavor but it sometimes has a slight grainy texture. Cute interior that has tables to hangout and chat for a bit as you enjoy your dessert. read more

This is the cutest cafe to just relax in for a matcha date. Lots of good seating, fun decor, very insta worthy. I love to get matcha from the route 40 location, so I stopped in to get my usual order. This was so different. Tasted nothing like the strawberry matcha latte I usually get. I'm not sure if it is different owners, workers, etc, but it was not very good. My son's milk soft serve was delicious and a good portion size. I'd stop back in for my son to get an ice cream over the summer, but I don't think I'll be getting my matcha latte from there again. read more

The best place for authentic matcha similar to one from Japan. I love the matcha and vanilla swirl ice cream - it's soft serve and a must have. The cakes also really surprised me - I loved the passion fruit cake but I have a big sweet tooth. The chocolate was a darker chocolate flavor with matcha which my friends enjoyed more. read more

I've been to Kyo Matcha a few times and enjoy their matcha lavender lattes and Sakura cloud cake. I have also tried their matcha cloud cake, but I do not enjoy the beans in it. The interior is bright, warm, and welcoming. There is plenty of seating inside and outside. There is also a free parking garage and a few parking lots surrounding. Their prices are fair, staff are nice and willing to assist with allergies, and I will continue to frequent this establishment. read more

I haven't had Kyo Matcha since the one in The Block a long time ago, and it was nice to finally have it again. I met up with some friends there, and you could either order with staff or on one of their kiosks. I usually love the soft serve swirl, but I decide to Branch out and get a parfait. The layering was excellent, and it was a unique treat that even had red beans in it. I savored that, and was sad when it was gone. Otherwise I hung out in the place a while and appreciated how spacious it was. I'm used to seeing it in food halls and the like, so it was nice to see them in an independent space. I need to try there cakes and other treats next time! read more

I don't understand the hype with this place, as someone who came from the west coast and has had actual authentic matcha this place literally gives a 0/5 for matcha flavor. very bland like the ppl giving the 5 star reviews The color literally says it all, very disappointing read more

Didn't know that this place was the same as Kyoto Matcha. Similar decor but this space was bigger than the one in Ellicott City. The service was friendly. We sampled the pistachio (flavor of the month) and the Hojicha. My wife got the non-caffeinated flavors - the pistachio and vanilla and I got the caffeinated flavors - Hojicha and matcha. We both added mochi and my wife also added red bean. Tasted good, just a lot of soft serve. I wish I could have ordered a kids size. read more

Hands down the best banana matcha latte I've had in my short but so far enjoyable career of drinking banana matcha lattes. The banana flavor was present but not dominating and the drink was not overly sweetened. The matcha flavor was good once I got my drink mixed well. I didn't ask but if you want a stronger matcha flavor you might want to ask for an extra shot of matcha. There is plenty of seating and I think I saw people with laptops. Double check to see if they have wifi but it would be a nice place to work for a little bit. Kyo Matcha also has sweets which I will have to try my next trip back. Kyo Matcha is definitely recommended for the banana matcha latte read more

What a cool tea shop! I'm matcha obsessed so when I saw this across the way while I was visiting my friend I knew I had to stop in. I got a classic matcha, half sweet, light ice. It was absolutely delicious. The matcha was beautiful, nice and herbal and floral. Exactly what I wanted. The half sweet was still a tad sweet for me but I'm a matcha snob so that's not their fault. The ambiance was so cool, I love the mosaic in the entry way, the lights, the people, everything is so so cool. The service was great, a little slow but it was packed and like 4 o'clock on a Saturday. Peek fun bevy time. The desserts people had looks AMAZING. I wish I wasn't taking it to go. read more

Literally the best soft serve ice cream & boba spot in the area!! Their matcha soft serve is from out of this world!!!! My personal favorite is their matcha soft serve parfait - it's pricey but SO WORTH EVERY PENNY! When I'm in the mood for boba, their boba is so chewy and perfectly made - none of that mush pearls you get sometimes. Their cakes are pretty great too, my go to is their milk cap cake & cheese mouse cake! Other cakes are fine but I've had better versions of it elsewhere. Lots of kiosks for you to order, which makes everything easy. Service is really fast. Overall a must visit dessert spot esp if you love soft serve!! read more

Kyo Match, from the perspective of a non matcha lover is amazing! While a lot of their menu centers around matcha based items, there are plenty of non matcha options. Originally I went because my sister wanted to try their matcha options, which she loved, however I've been back myself as I really enjoyed the items I ordered! You can order on a touch screen which is really nice to see all the menu items visually. The employees work fast to make your order and there is a pick up section with cutlery and napkins. The store feels very spacious and I love the brighter lighting. While I was there, I saw plenty of groups small and large enjoying their treats leisurely. You never feel rushed. I didn't take any pictures but their bathrooms are also really clean. This is a great coffee shop to enjoy your matcha and non matcha items alike. I'll definitely be back to keep trying different desserts. read more

Whether you love or hate matcha, there's something for everyone to enjoy at Kyo Matcha. I personally love the open concept of the space. On nice days, they open the floor-to-ceiling doors, allowing a lovely indoor-outdoor flow. I ordered the strawberry matcha latte, the matcha and milk twist on a cone, and the brown sugar matcha with boba. Out of all three, I highly recommend the matcha and milk twist cone. It offers the perfect combination of a light cream flavor and matcha, making it an excellent treat after a long day. However, I wasn't a fan of either of the beverages; they were a bit too watered down for my taste. Nevertheless, I will definitely continue to return for the soft serve ice cream--it's the best item on the menu! You can place your order at the register or use one of the order kiosks inside. This location offers plenty of seating, making it suitable for large groups. If it's busy, you can always take your matcha to go and enjoy your treat in the courtyard across the street. read more

Kyo matcha had been on my radar for a while, particularly for their cakes and soft serve. Today, I decided to try the milk soft serve with tapioca pearls. The flavor of the milk soft serve was a bit unexpected -- I was expecting it to taste like sweet cream. There was a unique, almost tart taste to it that I wasn't a particular fan of. It's also kind of expensive ($6 for the soft serve and extra charges for toppings). I wouldn't go back for that flavor of soft serve but I would return to try other sweet treats. read more

Came to the merriweather district to have dinner with my daughter. The restaurant we wanted to go to was crowded so we got carryout instead. While waiting we decided to head over to Kyo Matcha for a little ice cream. As soon as we walked in we noticed to bench with a cute little sign that my daughter wanted to get a picture. This place reminds me of a boba shop, but like everything matcha, so yeah if you want that convenience of walking in, ordering goodness on a screen and walking out with a smile on your face, this place will prolly do the trick. We visited Kyo Matcha and bought 8 soft-serve ice creams. As they started melting, we asked for a few empty cups just to catch the melting ice cream and make it easier to eat. To our surprise, a staff member later came over and charged us extra for the empty cups. It wasn't the cost itself that bothered us, but the lack of customer service. After purchasing 8 ice creams, it felt disappointing to be charged for a few plain empty cups that were only needed because the ice cream was melting. A small gesture like providing the cups without an extra charge would have gone a long way in creating a better customer experience. This version is calm, factual, and more likely to be taken seriously by other customers and the business. read more

Having been to the Rockville location many times, I know that Kyo Matcha is always a reliable dessert stop. The interiors are very sleek and clean. There are two kiosks to place orders, in addition to the traditional register. Each time I come, I have to get some sort of bubble tea whether it be hot or cold. I recently ordered the hot milk tea with boba and it was good! The boba quality here is always great. Being known for their matcha, the matcha latte, ice cream and slushes are always so delicious and rich in flavor. The ube towel cake, chocolate crepe layer cake and strawberry milk cap cake are all great. They're the perfect level of sweetness (not too sweet, but also enough to satisfy a sweets craving). I will mention that this location does not have board games like the one in Rockville. I brought a deck of cards to play with friends while we enjoyed our dessert! Easy parking - open lots nearby or a garage. read more

I love Kyo matcha! Matcha is so delicious and they are the pros! I get the parfait and sometimes the ice cream. They have different flavors of the week but matcha is permanent. Came with my family--it's a cool place to get a matcha (cold or hot), boba, or desserts. Store is bright and clean. Cute decor. Located in a very new and nice commercial area called Merriweather District (behind the Pavilion). You will need to use kiosks to order. They prepare the drinks fresh upon receiving the order. Daughter remarked that they prepare the matcha tea "the right way". It took a bit of time, but worth the quality of what you get. read more

We recently used Kyoto Matcha for our company lunch this week, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. We found them while doing some research last week and ended up calling at least three different times with various questions--and they were always patient, kind, and never once sounded annoyed. When we finally called to explain exactly what we were looking for, they worked with us seamlessly. We needed desserts for at least 40 individuals, had questions about their hours, timing, and logistics, and they answered everything thoroughly while offering helpful suggestions. We even stopped by in person to try a couple of desserts beforehand, which made us even more excited to move forward. We placed our order Tuesday evening and had the desserts delivered so we could cut and prepare them ahead of our Wednesday noon lunch. I truly don't think I can fully put into words the rave reviews we received from our staff. The desserts were absolutely beautiful, unique, and perfectly balanced--not overly sweet, just delicious. We will absolutely be working with Kyoto Matcha again in the future. A huge thank you to the wonderful staff at the Columbia location for their incredible support and service! read more

I'll start by saying I love the combination of matcha and milk! Whether it's a matcha latte or matcha ice cream, the pairing really works for me. On my first visit here I tried the matcha latte and loved it On this visit, I came with my fiancee on our date night. We saw a few other couples and families there. Super cute and clean dessert and tea spot next to Colorburst Park. They have cakes, soft serve, teas, lattes, slushies, and other dessert items. The flavors are unique and the employees were kind. They let me try both soft serve flavors I was interested in. I do wish they had more variety in the serving sizes and prices. The sizes were bigger than I would have wanted for how sweet things are. read more
