Cute and cozy place and the best dumplings I have had in a long time. I ordered a half serving of the chicken mushroom and the chicken coriander (16 pieces total) and my daughter had the seaweed salad and the pork cabbage dumplings. Very small place so be sure you get there early to get a table. read more

Came to this dumpling place for lunch. The restaurant is located a few steps from Bristol Chai - took us a bit of time to find it as it is a bit hidden. The interior made us feel like we were stepping into someone's house. They offer a decent selection of dumplings and it is possible to mix them. We ordered pork+shrimp+zucchini, chicken+coriander and had them steamed. We also tried beef+onion and pork+cabbage and we had them fried. I personally preferred the latter. Prices were quite reasonable for the # of dumplings we had (10-12$ for 16). Few things I didn't like were the lack of saltiness in the pork meat and there wasn't much soup inside each dumpling. Overall, it was decent but I'm not sure if I would come back to try the rest of their menu. read more

There's a dearth of dumpling places in this town. It's all too easy to just go to your old dependable Qin Hua or Mai Xiang Yuan, and roll your eyes as "yet another" restaurant opens in your neighbourhood. Biking down Clark towards Sherbrooke, just past Prince-Arthur, I don't even recall if there was anything in this space before Dumpling Hut. What the hell? My biggest criticism of dumpling restaurants in the city comes down to the filling. It all tastes the same to me (with the exception of vegetarian fillings which are consistently disappointing. Steamed, watery egg? No thanks.) When you pack enough sodium and MSG into a pork or beef base, you're going to get the same hit of delicious grease and sodium, but as my lunch companion on this day remarked, you won't be able to make rhyme from reason, resulting in the vague taste of "beast". I'm happy to report that the dumplings here at Dumpling Hut are *almost* underseasoned. Almost. Meaning, they're of a perfect saltiness. Combined with soy sauce, vinegar, and/or chili oil, it's just right. And between the dill/pork and beef/coriander, you could actually taste individual ingredients. *Imagine that*. Only downside is that there's no option to have your dumplings fried, but personally I don't mind so much. The cucumber salad also provided a nice, flavorful starter. Once you overcome the feeling that you're eating inside a stranger's apartment with a totally random dormant traffic light as a prop, you're all set. 4.5/5 read more

I feel like I'll keep coming back to this place whenever I'm craving Mom's homemade dumplings. The Dumpling Hut is a discrete reconverted apartment, and feels like someone's home. It has limited seating, but you have to option of ordering to go. Everything seems to be made fresh; it certainly tastes so. We got the pork/zucchini/shrimp and beef/coriander, and both were delicious and flavorful. You get 15 dumplings for 10$! Vegetarian and vegan options also available :) Will be back for sure! read more

Handmade dumplings is always a treat, but this location kinda fails to deliver anything special. The flavour was lacking, and the price for a dish is more expensive than the other well known dumpling places (in China Town and near Guy Concordia). The dumplings also didn't have much soup inside, which was a bit of a let down compared to the rivaling dumpling places. Their cheapest option is $9 before tax+tip for 15 dumplings, which is more than the other places, for less flavoursome dumplings. The service wasn't great, our water wasn't refilled a single time despite being the only customers in the restaurant at the time (it was early). If you're looking for dumplings and this is the only place close to you, you'll probably enjoy it! However, if you have the option to choose between multiple places and distance isn't a big deal, I'd recommend the dumpling place in China Town over this one. read more

With a love for cooking and encouragement from friends Haiqing Ding was convinced to represent her culture here in Montreal through food. After a successful dinner party she had decided that Dumplings were the way to go. In August, 2016 She and her husband decided that they must fulfill this dream of their's, so they opened up a small shop at Plateau Mont-Royal.

There were chicken pieces in it, mushrooms and a delicious "tofu sausage." It also had 2 pieces of baby Bok Choy and some pieces of kelp. I wished there was more vegetables. The soup also had green onions and cilantro. The broth was a tiny bit spicy from the chili oil. I am happy that this soup does not have sesame seeds in it, so I didn't have to ask them to hold the sesame seeds. Lol. My only complaint would be that the broth was a bit too salty and too oily for my tastes. I still thought it was good though. My husband enjoyed his appetizers. The imperial rolls were vegetarian. I didn't have any, but they looked like nothing special to me, haha. However, the hubby liked them which is what matters. The fried shrimp wontons looked good and he liked those too. Service was pleasant and efficient. The decor is casual with some fun touches. I liked the rotating lanterns with lights on the ceiling and the drawings of a big squid and clams on the walls. All 3 were freshly made & ready for pickup in 10 minutes. Dumplings were soft, delicate & the peanut sauce was amazing. Gentlemen taking orders(owner?) was polite & efficient, repeating the order back again on pick up. Very few American-Chinese//Canadian-Chinese dishes on the menu - though they exist. This may be a regional Chinese restaurant but I do not recognize the region. One visit and three dishes convinced me I have to go back rather than just eating around town. In the not to be missed department: Mushrooms fried in egg yolk. These are the most interesting fried mushrooms you will ever have. They are also the richest fried mushrooms you will ever have. You will adore every single bite - and if you are lucky you can eat 1/3 of a serving before being totally full. I believe the trick here is that the batter is 100 percent egg yolk no white no nothing else. They also do a salt and pepper tofu that is creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside. How often do you see that? Braised seafood in ginger and garlic is the same dish you see in many other Chinese establishments but is lovely here. The squid is tough but the ginger is to die for. I am eager to get back. * * * * P.S. I DID get back. We ordered five more dishes. The amazingness quotient continues. Don't miss their fried spareribs.

There was some good scallop flavor but it was masked with all the stuff that tasted like old oil. The noodle dish was good but also had some old oil flavor coming from somewhere. All the meats and vegetables were nice and fresh but the good sauce I think was the source of the oil. We saw a table next to us had the pork chops and was asked, what are those? So we got that too. The chops were thin bone in with a batter fried then soaked in a vinegar sauce. These would have been good as our only item with a bowl of rice. Our co-eaters there had many good looking things. I would give this a try again but would bring a few more people so we could try more stuff. Total for all that including the sake was $100 Canadian. Not bad!

The food was good but it was a little annoying eating with the fire alarm on. We ordered a lot of dim sum classics that we eat back home in California but it seemed like the prices were lower than what we normally pay back home. The bill once we figured our the CAD-USD conversion seemed very reasonable. If we're in town again and the fire alarm isn't loud, we'll try it again.
