We are at Oh Dumplings! on our first night in Montreal. I saw some yummy clips on TikTok and decided that is where we're going for dinner. We arrived at around 6 and were seated right away. We noticed they were very busy with take out orders. We ordered a scallion pancake and two different dumplings to try (pork and shrimp). We loved the scallion pancake and enjoyed all of our dumplings. The restaurant looked a little run down but it was clean and so were the bathrooms. Service was polite and efficient. read more

TL;DR/The Short Version: Dumplings restaurant in Chinatown. Quick service. Tasty dumplings. More variety of flavours than other dumpling places around. The Long Version: My husband and I had lunch at Oh Dumplings and it was very good. I got the fish and coriander dumplings ($14.99). I have never seen fish dumplings on the menu at a dumplings shop before, so I had to try it. My husband hates coriander/cilantro, so we didn't share our meals this time. He took the opportunity to also get items I wouldn't like, lol. He got a lamb skewer ($2.99) and a ginger chicken dish that was filled with onions and bean sprouts ($14.99). Haha. I enjoyed the fish dumplings, but the texture was a bit gummy. I was hoping for a more flakey texture. There was no fishy smell, so I was happy about that. There was a strong cilantro flavour. I'm indifferent towards cilantro but I noticed it was very pronounced. My husband enjoyed the lamb skewer and his ginger chicken dish. It looked like mostly onions to me :/ I did have a taste of a piece of chicken and it was flavourful, but I would have been unhappy with the dish since I hate onions. Lol. The best and most authentic Chinese food you'll find in Chinatown! The staff are also the sweetest. You'll find grandmas making the dumplings by hand, which is definitely something that'll remind you of home. The general Tao's chicken is also super crispy and huge in portions! Started off my time in Montreal with a stop in China Town and found this little corner spot - ordered the fried pork dumplings and stir fried noodles with chicken - would order the same items again. The dumplings came with a delicious chili oil sauce and were filled with flavor - and the noodles had great flavor cooked into them - simple and delicious! Didn't take photos unfortunately! We loved loved this place. Came here to eat when we were visiting Montreal . This restaurant is located inside the Chinatown. It's always great to see what are you about to eat is freshly made. The fresh made dumplings tasted so delicious. We had fish dumplings + pork and cabbage dumplings. Also ordered crispy chicken. Wonton soup. Chinese beer and scallion pancake. Really enjoyed the pork dumpling and shrimp pork dumpling combo. Appreciated Oh staff's attentive service given they were really busy on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Additionally théir pork garlic cutlets were tremendous. Once Oh Dumplings generates the profit recommend they invest into their internal infrastructure such as bathroom and dining room renovations. Can tell she didn't want to deal with a large party. You are in a busy town, working in a busy area. Can't take the heat. Find another job. She is not meant for this position. This places food is really good. We got the sweet and sour chicken (general Tao on menu) and the pork and cabbage dumplings. The food took a bit to get to us but overall was pretty worth the wait (20 ish minutes) The general Tao was absolutely drowned in sauce, so beware when ordering. Craved some Chinese food so my friend and I decided to come here. We got the shallot pancake (2.99), the pork vegetable shrimp dumpling (10.99) and the beef tenderloin soup (8.99). The dumplings and the shallot pancakes were my favourite! I liked how the shallot pancakes were fluffy and not too oily, and being priced at 2.99 makes it extra delicious! The dumplings were also a hit for me, it was juicy and flavourful. We could also easily tell how fresh and homemade the dumplings were, especially with a viewing glass of the workers who were just rolling and wrapping dumplings. Wish we got a few other flavours as 15 dumplings of the same flavours became a little too much for the both of us. The beef tenderloin soup was just alright, the beef didn't taste too fresh, and I didn't expect the noodle base to be with the egg noodles (I expected it to be rice noodles). The four of us visited on a cold and rainy evening and the place was packed. It took a few minutes to get seated and then a few more to get our order but well worth the wait. We ordered Imperial Rolls (basically a large veggie egg roll) for appetizers and then dumplings, General Tsao Chicken and fried rice for main courses. The fried rice was a generous portion and enough to share. We all nibbled on the rice and chicken dishes while we waited for the dumplings. Our food only arrived after 35 minutes of waiting Spinach dumplings looked cool but were flavourless. I did not try the pork and cabbage dumplings myself as I am a pescatarian but my friend did not enjoy them. Mapo tofu was tasteless- neither spicy nor numbing and only slightly salty. The orange fish was okay but nothing special. Portion sizes for all the dishes were pretty good. The waitresses working there were rude and dismissive. We loved knowing that our (chicken and cabbage) dumplings were freshly "constructed" and they tasted it, too! We got here on the early side, around 6, there were lots of tables to choose from, and it filled up by the time we left an hour later with a crowd that ran towards the younger side. A wall of windows brings in tons of light, and the decor is pretty simple. Fortune cookies are in French, of course. Service was good, portions were more than adequate, one of which was so beautifully plated and colorful that I had to share it on social media. On the other hand, the noodles in sesame sauce were too thickly coated and too cloying to enjoy. Oh Dumplings! is my favorite spot for dumplings whenever I visit Montreal. The restaurant is located at a super convenient location - right at the center of Chinatown with multiple places for bubble tea/dessert around that you can visit after. They offer a wide variety of steamed/pan fried dumplings, as well as many classic Chinese dishes. My go-to here is definitely Spinach and Carrot steamed dumplings. Both come with spinach/carrot mixed with cabbage and mushroom. I've also tried their pork and Chinese cabbage dumplings; however, it's probably not my favorite for its weird after taste. I highly recommend eating the dumplings when they're still hot and fresh because they can go soggy very fast! I would definitely come back here when I'm in Montreal! read more

While on our vacation I finally pried my duaghter away from fast food long enough to get some Chinese food. Montreal's Chinatown is compact but full of some really good places. There are dozens of options on these streets but she liked the menu here. It was in Chinese, French, & English. She read the options and decided that this was the place for her. The waitstaff all seem to be multilingual. That helped. My daughter was feeling a bit sad about her lack of French, even though most people will switch into English when they realize you don't understand. First we split an order of Shallot Pancakes, and they were quite tasty. I ordered salt & pepper squid. It had a nice bite to it, nice and hot in places, and really well seasoned. I was afraid I'd swell up after that but no, didn't happen, so they are on point with that. My daughter ordered Crispy Chicken, which tasted fresh but it definitely wasn't an adventurous choice. She liked it and they gave her plenty. She wound up bringing half of it back to the hotel and eating it the next day. No, we didn't order dumplings. Next time. This place was absolutely DELICIOUS. The chicken fried noodles were AMAZING so simple yet bursting with flavor (R1). The imperial rolls (A2) had a delicate flaky crunch with a tender inside. And we had the Pork and Chives (D3),Lamb and Coriander (D5), and Chicken with Chinese Cabbage (D6) fried dumplings, there were all bursting with flavor. This was the perfect down to earth little restaurant to eat at, it wasn't too busy and you can watch the cooks make the dumplings in front of you! 10/10 recommend! We devoured everything. read more

Came here 3 years ago, went back yesterday (the Lan Zhou restaurant down the block was packed). Decor is simple, staff is nice. The star of this place is probably the dumpling. These bit size creations have a thicker skin, & contain coriander. The other items I tried weren't as good, wonton noodles weren't al dente, & the broth was weak. Mother in law said what she had was just, alright (beef stew over noodle soup). The bathroom is clean, &, for 1 person at a time. They should get rid of the huge trash basket in there, as it takes up half the standing area. read more

Service was kind of slow -as we were waiting around quite a bit of time before we were actually served- only because I flagged down the waitress. Dumplings are served in dishes of 15 - fried or boiled. They don't come in a bamboo dish- but on a plate so they become cold fairly quickly! They also have a selection of appetizers and hot dishes. Prices were $$. We ordered: (rating on 5*) lamb and coriander dumplings***, pork, shrimp and vegetable dumplings **(seasoning was off), Chinese crepes- comes in 6 pieces/greasy **, salt and pepper shrimp** (too salty for my taste). For dipping sauces- they had chilli, soya and dumpling sauce (balsamic vinegar type). You pay at the cash and get a fortune cookie! This is more a good "I don't want McDonalds" option. read more

Brief review: We came as a group of 4 over lunch. Place was not busy but service was bit slow. Water was served about 10-15mins after being seated. We ordered five dishes and here is what I would recommend and avoid. Recommend: "Pork, vegetable and shrimp dumplings - 10.99 for 15 pieces". We ordered it fried for $1.50 extra. Served with a light golden crust on the bottom, the dumpling is packed with juice and flavours. "Spinach, mushroom, cabbages - 9.99 for 15 pieces". Is a good alternative if you don't want meat dumplings. Served in a green exterior shell, the dumplings have a nice aesthetic look. The filling contains a nice blend of vegetables but is slightly under seasoned. Just add some table side soy sauce/vinegar and it's perfect. Do not recommend: Avoid "pork meat rolled in dried bean curd". Overly salty and average in taste and best. Also, small portion not worth the 8.99. read more

We ordered San Xian dumplings and wow they were better than expected. They skin of the dumplings were definitely handmade and had very good texture when you chewed on it. The veggie soup could use a little more veggies. Overall a pretty good restaurant for quick comfort food. read more

Not sure of this place after seeing not a great "star" rating but we walked in and the food we saw on the tables looked good & smelled even better, so we stayed. Darn glad we did, we started with pork & chive dumplings and immediately knew they were better than any we have had in Chinatown in Manhattan or for that matter anywhere we've had them outside of China. The Cold noodle "salad" with peanut sauce was delicious & although healthy, it was very refreshing in July heat and plenty filling. I ate the little bit the wife left! My Seafood curry hot bowl was incredible! I wish I could take that recipe & flavor home to Texas as well as their pickled radish....both just simply WOW! We ordered another half order of dumplings and forgot dessert before we left. Service was informative, pleasant & fun & frankly some of the very best we have seen in Montreal. Fresh homemade dough & different fillings. What a difference compared to frozen factory dumplings, skin is more sticky yum. You can watch the ladies behind the glass folding them. A restaurant specialized making dumplings should excel what they do. The dumpling I had was just mediocre. Dry wrap with losing fillings. I expect they come in with hot steam so I can sense the freshness right from the start. But unfortunately they came in warm and soon get cold when dipping the vinegar. Like microwaved packaged foods don't hold the heat long. I would very much like to tip more if it wasn't a walk-up self pay system. Which I waited in a line with 3 people ahead. The frontdest is in the middle of the restaurant so you have to stand there to wait which is really uncomfortable to me. I've been looking for a place in MTL with good quality frozen dumplings for quite some time now. Almost for the better part of seven years. You see folks I've bought so many freaking dumplings at Asian grocery stores but none of them live up to expectation. Their mediocrity and mass produced taste bored my taste buds. Until one day I was roaming around Chinatown. I walked by here and saw they had frozen dumplings to go. It peaked my curiosity. So I performed a test with 45 dumplings (3 orders of 15 pork n chive $6.99 for 15) to go. My results were I came back here and picked up a mother load more. 120 total. It was around $60 for 120. A bit expensive but they are bloody amazing. I'm a bit cautious as I didn't want to share my little secret but the dumplings are amazing. I'm shocked at how good they are for frozen ones that I don't even steam. I boil them in water. For the 120 I bought three varieties: Pork & Chinese cabbage $6.99/15 Beef coriander $7.99/15 Fish & coriander $8.99/15 The Pork and cabbage are my fave but the fish and coriander are amazingly fresh and tasty also. The beef and coriander are good but not as good as the others. These are the tastiest - juiciest frozen dumplings I've found here in MTL. Before my brother would schlepp frozen dumplings from this place in Chinatown Calgary for me. No more. One funny point to add. When I came in for 45 they put in a styrofoam container. So I came back with big ziplock freezer bags for the 120 which work much better. A minor inconvenience but it shows me they don't sell many frozen lol! read more

We were at Chinatown and stopped in for some dumplings. The dumplings were made fresh but lack varieties. As for the service, this place is bad. We were shopping and walked in with what we bought from the bakery nearby. Two waiters came by and said no outside food allowed. We weren't eating the baked goods but were looking at them. Telling us once was enough but twice, come on! We ordered tripe salad, chicken dumplings, and pork dumplings. The dumplings were great but their dipping sauce sucks for dumplings...on the table were soy sauce, black vinegar, and chile oil. No fresh grated gingers and red vinegar dipping like other dumplings houses. When we paid the bill and started to walk out, the waiter stopped us and said tips not included in our bill. We left tips on the table. We always tip no matter what, if your service was good, it'll be more than 15%. No water refill, no coming by to ask if we needed anything else and yet told us tip is not included in our bill. If I was the owner, I would retrained my staffs to let the service speaks for itself if you want tips. read more

Oh Dumplings! is Montreal's newest dumpling venue attempting to wrestle the top spot from Mai Xiang Yuan. Rather large and situated in a fairly good location right on Clark, the decor is new and even decent with a pseudo open kitchen and big windows letting in tons of light. Everything seemed pretty clean, but that could have just been the fact that it is new. Only time will tell. It appears as though they've given some thought to marketing and branding. They already have a website and according to the QR codes and Icons plastered on the front door they are all over the Web 2.0 sites including Yelp. Sadly with a quick review of their menu it's apparent that their marketing budget didn't include a spell checker. They could have gotten a bit more creative with the food photos. From the outside dumplings look more or less the same, so the single isolated dumplings seemed a bit silly to me. A nice try I suppose with all the marketing collateral, but restaurant's need to also consider service and of course the food. Other reviewers seemed to have problems with the service, but I found it OK. Granted we were the only customers at the time. By the end of the meal I could have used more water but all in all that's about par for the course in Montreal. Finally, on to the food. When I glanced at the prices I seriously considered walking out and just going to Mai Xiang Yuan. Expect to pay two or three dollars more per dish than the aforementioned restaurant. Others mentioned the rather thick skin on the dumplings and yeah they are some thick skins. I've eaten a lot of dumplings both here and in China and never have I had dumplings with such thick skin. To their credit, each dumpling was absolutely stuffed with filling. It was a sickeningly sweet filling unfortunately. I can only guess that they've made the filling a bit sweet in an attempt to cater to Western palates, but it sort of ruined them for me. Tellingly I actually left a couple dumplings on the plate, I just couldn't stomach any more dough or sweet filling. Clearly somebody poured a bucket load of money into establishing a brand. Unfortunately they spent way too much time fiddling with the marketing and not nearly enough time nailing down the food. Hands down Mai Xiang Yuan has better dumplings at better prices. Oh Dumplings! has a lot of work to do if they want to be a serious contender in the Montreal dumpling wars. read more
