I love Sichuan food, so coming to AuntDai was an obvious choice, with a wide breath of tasty options. It has options for spice lovers as well as people who cannot handle any heat. We ran into the restaurant in the middle of a torrential storm, and the wait staff was so kind in giving us extra time to dry off and get settled. We ordered numerous dishes and appetizers to share--family-style dining is definitely the way to go here! So many excellent things on the menu. Come expecting to try something new! We were impressed with the quality of the ingredients, particularly the flavorful broths. The standouts were -- Wonton Soup: the broth was wonderful -- Cucumber Salad: crunchy, spicy, and addictive -- Potato Julianne: unbelievably good with its spicy, tangy seasoning; a must-order! -- Cumin Beef: my father--who usually dislikes anything that is unfamiliar--enjoyed this! -- Pork Belly with Sweet Potato Noodles: this special dish is rich and spicy --Eggplant, Bell Pepper, and Potato To top it off, the owner came out and talked to us about the history behind the names and ingredients of different dishes on the menu. So fascinating! We loved getting a taste of Chinese culinary history from him--what a cap to a delicious evening.

I'm always looking for new places to try in Chinatown. Cuisine AuntDai, which specializes in Sichuan food, was next on the list. It's located upstairs of SAJ Mahal. We dropped in on a Thursday evening (around 6:30pm). The inside is nicer than your typical Chinese spot. Heck, they even have a massive upstairs area (which was completely empty). The menu is a mix of authentic and Canadianized Chinese food. There's appetizers, main dishes, vegetarian, rice and noodles, desserts and drinks. There's also a few pages of handwritten specials; rabbit with Sichuan chili sauce sounded good. Check their website: someone (maybe Aunt Dai?) has written a description and review on almost every dish. A good read! - Tea ($0.99) - lame that they charge you for tea. - 2x Steamed rice ($1.49) - Twice-cooked pork ($12.99) - pork, green pepper, garlic and Sichuan peppercorns. This was a tad spicy and oily but tasty. Liked the mix of vegetables (carrots, onions and green peppers). Pork was slightly fatty but cooked excellently. - Cabbage stir-fry ($9.99) - I was a bit skeptical to order cabbage but this was simple, tender and tasty. - Mapo tofu ($10.99) - tofu, beef and parsley. This came out much later than the other two dishes. Tofu was tender but the dish lacked any heat or numbness. The one I had at Délice Oriental was better. Good but oily food. 3.5 stars.

    Cumin beef

Yesterday, I decided to order the cumin beef through the phone. It took less than 2 minutes to place my order. When I got there, I saw there's a bookshelf for you to donate or take books! Amazing. And the owner is such a sweetheart. I asked for a cup of water, and he didn't have any. He offered a free Coke or Ginger Ale instead, but I declined. After I got home, I savored that cumin beef. It was spicy enough for my spice levels and so flavorful. And those caramelized onions I was able to split the beef into two meals along with veggies and carbs I had at home. I'm used to having meals that include these and the meat at the same price, though I can definitely vouch for the taste and quality of this dish. Aunt Dai, I'll definitely be back!

Take out - Hot and Sour Soup. Incredible

I have been ordering from the restaurant quite often now and I'm more than satisfied with their meals. It is similar to your typical Chinese restaurant but with less breading and more meat, less grease and oil and much more flavour. I would recommend the general tao chicken, beef and broccoli, beef and spicy peppers and the Cantonese noodles with mixed vegetables. All their dishes are reasonably priced and arrive super hot (ordered through Uber eats). The food tastes really fresh and authentic (for those dishes that are actually authentic, check their online website for info!). Overall, I am very satisfied with their flavours and can' wait to order from them again! -if you plan on ordering take out/delivery, don't worry at all. The food arrived incredibly hot and all the flavour is definitely still there! Can't wait to order again!

I always go to Aunt Dai for some savoury authentic chinese food! Each dish taste flavourful and my favourite is their Spicy Fish! The numbing flavour adds a nice kick to it. Sadly their portions has decreased since the last time I went, but nonetheless delicious!

General Tao Chicken & Hot Pepper with Beef

I had been wanting to try this establishment for years after reading all the positive reviews on several forums! Finally got around to ordering in today. After several average experiences of Chinese Food in Montreal, I placed the order with low expectations. After going over the menu and pictures on Yelp, I ordered the General Tao Chicken and Hot Pepper with Beef! Both ended up being excellent options but the beef was exceptionally tasty. The food was absolutely delicious, spicy and the ingredients were high quality and fresh! The food arrived in perfect condition as they have great packaging. We were very pleased with our experience and can wait to order again and try more things from the menu! I am ecstatic to have finally found a great Chinese restaurant in the city. Would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone looking for authentic Chinese food in Montreal.

Authentic and delicious chinese food. Every dish is packed with flavor and didn't disappoint. The place is very gloomy. It used to be a hot pot place and they seem to have kept the tables as they still have the switches on the side.

The Long Version: I love hand pulled noodles, so my husband and I had lunch here. He's not a fan of noodle soups but agreed to come and just have appetizers, lol. I got the small-sized Spicy Mushrooms and Chicken Noodle Soup ($13.99). I chose the #6 size noodles which is the thickest noodles they offer. My husband got the imperial rolls ($4.50 for 3) and the fried shrimp wontons ($11.99 for 10). I really enjoyed my soup, especially the thick noodles. They were chewy and the right amount of softness. There were chicken pieces in it, mushrooms and a delicious "tofu sausage." It also had 2 pieces of baby Bok Choy and some pieces of kelp. I wished there was more vegetables. The soup also had green onions and cilantro. The broth was a tiny bit spicy from the chili oil. I am happy that this soup does not have sesame seeds in it, so I didn't have to ask them to hold the sesame seeds. Lol. My only complaint would be that the broth was a bit too salty and too oily for my tastes. I still thought it was good though. My husband enjoyed his appetizers. The imperial rolls were vegetarian. I didn't have any, but they looked like nothing special to me, haha. However, the hubby liked them which is what matters. The fried shrimp wontons looked good and he liked those too. Service was pleasant and efficient. The decor is casual with some fun touches. I liked the rotating lanterns with lights on the ceiling and the drawings of a big squid and clams on the walls. I would return to try their other noodle soups and also their handmade dumplings. Review #10 (2026)

The Long Version: My husband and I had dinner here and we really enjoyed it. I initially was going to get their soup dumplings (their specialty), but when I looked at the menu, I saw that they had Laksa ($18.99), so I couldn't resist ordering that instead. My husband prefers pan-fried dumplings over soup dumplings, so he got the pork and mushroom dumplings ($14.50) and there was a $1.99 surcharge for pan-frying (the base price is for steamed). My Laksa was huge and delicious. The broth was so rich with coconut milk and a bit spicy. It was really flavourful. The noodles had a nice chew to them. The soup also contained some decent-sized shrimp, velvetized sliced chicken, cubes of tofu and a boiled egg. I wished it had some vegetables in though because I felt very unhealthy eating just starch and protein, lol. I did enjoy it though ;) I had one of my husband's dumplings and it was good. It had ground pork in it and chopped up mushrooms. There was a slight gingery taste to it. I liked it and my husband liked them too. Service was very pleasant. The server refilled our waters regularly and I like that the water had ice in it and was very cold. The restaurant is not too large and has seating on a main level then up a few steps they have 4 more tables of 4 by the front window. We walked there from our hotel, but as with pretty much all businesses in The Plateau it's street parking only. Review #209 (2025)

Very few American-Chinese//Canadian-Chinese dishes on the menu - though they exist. This may be a regional Chinese restaurant but I do not recognize the region. One visit and three dishes convinced me I have to go back rather than just eating around town. In the not to be missed department: Mushrooms fried in egg yolk. These are the most interesting fried mushrooms you will ever have. They are also the richest fried mushrooms you will ever have. You will adore every single bite - and if you are lucky you can eat 1/3 of a serving before being totally full. I believe the trick here is that the batter is 100 percent egg yolk no white no nothing else. They also do a salt and pepper tofu that is creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside. How often do you see that? Braised seafood in ginger and garlic is the same dish you see in many other Chinese establishments but is lovely here. The squid is tough but the ginger is to die for. I am eager to get back. * * * * P.S. I DID get back. We ordered five more dishes. The amazingness quotient continues. Don't miss their fried spareribs.

I was expecting a more flavored experience and maybe that is not what they do or I could have ordered differently. The menu is huge so it is hard to know where to start. We went here because of the good Yelp reviews. Were we arrived in Chinatown there were many other places that looked great, so we loitered at the door for a minute while deciding what to do. As we loitered a family came out and noticed us and asked if were were going to Keung Kee. We said we were thinking about it and they said just go, it is the best restaurant in Chinatown. Sold. We went in, up the stairs, waited a bit, and got a table. This is the kid of place you need to bring a lot of people because that is whet it is built for, the menu is extensive, and the portions are huge. We puzzled over the menu then ordered our food. We wanted a bottle of cold sake and the waiter brought it in an ice bucket. Nice. We started with the pork dumplings. The dumplings were very goof but came in a hot thick sweet peanut sauce. With a lighter sauce these would have been outstanding. The scallop was huge and had a bunch of stuff on it. There was some good scallop flavor but it was masked with all the stuff that tasted like old oil. The noodle dish was good but also had some old oil flavor coming from somewhere. All the meats and vegetables were nice and fresh but the good sauce I think was the source of the oil. We saw a table next to us had the pork chops and was asked, what are those? So we got that too. The chops were thin bone in with a batter fried then soaked in a vinegar sauce. These would have been good as our only item with a bowl of rice. Our co-eaters there had many good looking things. I would give this a try again but would bring a few more people so we could try more stuff. Total for all that including the sake was $100 Canadian. Not bad!
