Dobe & Andy mediocre Large BBQ Meat Plate (Chicken, Pork, Duck) - Best part the scallions on side
    Mike R.

Interested in Chinese food for lunch, my nephew found Dobe & Andy online for us. What a disappointment! Inside an office building, the restaurant's red decorated ceiling and columns are complemented by dated furniture and walls plastered with martial arts movie posters. From that, it looked like it had been around for some time. Tried their large BBQ meats plate, with roasted pork, duck and chicken. The duck (normally my favorite) drumstick was mostly bone - and that's diplomatic and a lot extra for a piece of bone with a little duck. The accompanying scallion sauce was the only thing that stood out. Given these are items I've been eating all my life as a native New Yorker starting with meals in our Chinatown, can attest all three roast meats had absolutely no flavor! We also ordered two unremarkable noodle dishes. It was only worth picking out the shrimp and other stuff out of our Singapore Noodles. I've had better Chinese elsewhere in Montréal. This is not a place I'd recommend.

It's my third time visiting this place and always a delight. Although I said I would try something new, I never did. I always come back for the char siu. It's a little foreign bbq place that serves meats, rice, noodles, soup and such. The menu is quite extensive. The signature dish is choice or 1 to 3 meats and a choice of side in various noodles and rice forms. I took that in the past and it was very good. This time, I wanted to have vegetable but they don't do replacement. Thus we took the big 2 meats platter as a starter with a vegetable of the week plates (which was bok choy). It was good. My friend took a cury chicken rice. It was very good too.

4 meat all dressed on a bed of lo mein wonton noodles and topped with a fried egg and scallion oil

Good Chinese bbq offered at great value. I split my 4 meat all dressed order which included lo mein and a fried egg with my spouse and we were sufficiently fed with the portions offered here at the low low price of 33$. The scallion oil on top really takes the dish to the next level. I appreciate their menu is prices including tax. They also take American credit here which is very convenient as many of these local shops sometimes are cash only. When you're ready to pay you go to the take out counter to settle your bill. Thankfully we got in right before the dinner rush, but when you do come here just be prepared for a potential wait to get seated.

Wish I could give a 4.5, but I can't do half stars. If you're in Montreal and craving some solid Chinese BBQ, Dobe & Andy delivers--especially if you order the roasted pork. This crispy, juicy masterpiece? A 5/5 all day. The beef in my chow mein, though? Eh, more of a 3. So, I'm averaging it out to a four, which is what I'd rank the duck. The Breakdown: -Base options - rice, egg noodle, boccoli noodle, chow mein, fried rice. Also can get noodles in a soup broth. -Meat lineup - BBQ pork, roasted pork, soy chicken, duck. Choose 1-4 meats and build your own plate. The Experience: -Actually open until 10 PM on Fridays (Google lies). -Packed on a Friday night at 8 PM - one lone table left in the whole place. -Quick & kind staff - efficient but friendly. -Lively atmosphere - full of conversation, just the right amount of busy. The Verdict: If I lived closer, I'd be back for that roasted pork and price alone. $13 CAD for a plate of crispy heaven? Steal. If you go, do yourself a favor--skip the beef and go for the roast pork.

Nice to have a Canto food option in the heart of Montreal Chinatown. We came due to all the good reviews.  We enjoyed the lemon ice tea, stir fried noodles, veggies, and cucumber salad. The meats such as BBQ pork and duck were a bit too salty for our tastes coming from SGV/LA.  I do think the saltiness it's more of a standard in Montreal with the love of the smoked meat.  For the 2 or 3 meat plate, you are able to duplicate the option because hubby ended up getting 3x cha siu which is his favorite meat.  He was able to order extra side of onion with ginger and oil for his rice so he was happy.  The other complaint I would have is the 2 meat egg noodle soup I ordered was in lukewarm temperature.

the place kind inside the building so some might miss it, but there is a name outside for you to see. i LOVE the restaurant theme. Food was amazing. The crispy duck noodle was great especially the sauce on top of it. It so flavorful. We got meat platter which has crispy pork, char siu, and roasted duck. I love how the duck didnt have the stink smell of duck. Not a lot of places can do that. We also ordered something look like crab sauce over rice it pretty good too. The service was great. she supper friendly and helpful. checking on us see if we need anything and she even trying to putting out the plates for us. Some places just bring out stack of plates and let we do it ourselves so A+ for service. Definitely recommend it if you have a chance

Hands down one of the best chinese food I have had in a long time !!!! I live in NYC and wish this place would open here. Their vegetarian chow mein was super good and I can't find anything close in NYC.

very incredible food and not expensive large space on the upstairs of the plaza mall. Closes at 8. Didn't get the chicken which everyone seemed to rave about but still one of the best places we've eaten so far

Three meats- roasted pork, duck, chicken

Easy 5 stars for me- great food, wonderful and warm service, and a really good value. I had the three-meats platter (roasted pork, duck, and chicken- all were great, the pork was actually my favorite) and my husband enjoyed some vegetarian noodles. Friendly service is so rare these days I could almost weep when I receive it. No time for tears, though, when the food is this good! We would definitely return the next time we're in Montreal.

Dobe & Andy is one of the best casual restaurants in Montreal's Chinatown. Unfortunately, as of December 2022, the restaurant is out of roast duck because of the ongoing avian flu. However, there is still plenty of other options to choose from, including soy chicken and delicious roast pork. I ordered the roast pork meal with rice, radish, and delicious ginger scallion sauce. This is the type of Chinese comfort food I crave and can't find where I currently live, so I was thankful to enjoy this meal while in Montreal. The roast pork is juicy and tender, with crispy skin. The ginger scallion sauce was an unexpected and appreciated surprise. I can eat ginger scallion sauce with anything, but it's usually only served with chicken. The lemon tea is homemade, and there are real slices of lemon in the tea. Refreshing and recommended to have with any meal. All of this for $15 CAN was a good deal. If I lived in Montreal, this would be one of my regular dining spots.

Food was a 3/5 for us, the meats (bbq pork and duck) were both just too salty which perhaps we are the outliers who find many restaurants in Montreal serve extremely salty meat. Loved the laid back ambience and staff tho. Would return for a nice cold ice tea out of the hot sun.

Sautéed noodles (sorry! We forgot to take photos until halfway through)

Delicious, delicious comfort food. Such a great hole-in-a-wall. The flavor of the wontons is gorgeous (extra white pepper, yes please!). We tried a variety of dishes and they were all fantastic. The place is bumping with to-go, online, and in-person orders. And yet, they still managed to turn our order around quickly. Very appreciated.

    Duck lo mein

I'm pretty sure this is some of the best Chinese food I've ever eaten. The price was right, the food was fresh and flavorful and the staff was so friendly. A must visit in Montreal!

The Long Version: I love hand pulled noodles, so my husband and I had lunch here. He's not a fan of noodle soups but agreed to come and just have appetizers, lol. I got the small-sized Spicy Mushrooms and Chicken Noodle Soup ($13.99). I chose the #6 size noodles which is the thickest noodles they offer. My husband got the imperial rolls ($4.50 for 3) and the fried shrimp wontons ($11.99 for 10). I really enjoyed my soup, especially the thick noodles. They were chewy and the right amount of softness. There were chicken pieces in it, mushrooms and a delicious "tofu sausage." It also had 2 pieces of baby Bok Choy and some pieces of kelp. I wished there was more vegetables. The soup also had green onions and cilantro. The broth was a tiny bit spicy from the chili oil. I am happy that this soup does not have sesame seeds in it, so I didn't have to ask them to hold the sesame seeds. Lol. My only complaint would be that the broth was a bit too salty and too oily for my tastes. I still thought it was good though. My husband enjoyed his appetizers. The imperial rolls were vegetarian. I didn't have any, but they looked like nothing special to me, haha. However, the hubby liked them which is what matters. The fried shrimp wontons looked good and he liked those too. Service was pleasant and efficient. The decor is casual with some fun touches. I liked the rotating lanterns with lights on the ceiling and the drawings of a big squid and clams on the walls. I would return to try their other noodle soups and also their handmade dumplings. Review #10 (2026)

The Long Version: My husband and I had dinner here and we really enjoyed it. I initially was going to get their soup dumplings (their specialty), but when I looked at the menu, I saw that they had Laksa ($18.99), so I couldn't resist ordering that instead. My husband prefers pan-fried dumplings over soup dumplings, so he got the pork and mushroom dumplings ($14.50) and there was a $1.99 surcharge for pan-frying (the base price is for steamed). My Laksa was huge and delicious. The broth was so rich with coconut milk and a bit spicy. It was really flavourful. The noodles had a nice chew to them. The soup also contained some decent-sized shrimp, velvetized sliced chicken, cubes of tofu and a boiled egg. I wished it had some vegetables in though because I felt very unhealthy eating just starch and protein, lol. I did enjoy it though ;) I had one of my husband's dumplings and it was good. It had ground pork in it and chopped up mushrooms. There was a slight gingery taste to it. I liked it and my husband liked them too. Service was very pleasant. The server refilled our waters regularly and I like that the water had ice in it and was very cold. The restaurant is not too large and has seating on a main level then up a few steps they have 4 more tables of 4 by the front window. We walked there from our hotel, but as with pretty much all businesses in The Plateau it's street parking only. Review #209 (2025)

Very few American-Chinese//Canadian-Chinese dishes on the menu - though they exist. This may be a regional Chinese restaurant but I do not recognize the region. One visit and three dishes convinced me I have to go back rather than just eating around town. In the not to be missed department: Mushrooms fried in egg yolk. These are the most interesting fried mushrooms you will ever have. They are also the richest fried mushrooms you will ever have. You will adore every single bite - and if you are lucky you can eat 1/3 of a serving before being totally full. I believe the trick here is that the batter is 100 percent egg yolk no white no nothing else. They also do a salt and pepper tofu that is creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside. How often do you see that? Braised seafood in ginger and garlic is the same dish you see in many other Chinese establishments but is lovely here. The squid is tough but the ginger is to die for. I am eager to get back. * * * * P.S. I DID get back. We ordered five more dishes. The amazingness quotient continues. Don't miss their fried spareribs.

As we loitered a family came out and noticed us and asked if were were going to Keung Kee. We said we were thinking about it and they said just go, it is the best restaurant in Chinatown. Sold. We went in, up the stairs, waited a bit, and got a table. This is the kid of place you need to bring a lot of people because that is whet it is built for, the menu is extensive, and the portions are huge. We puzzled over the menu then ordered our food. We wanted a bottle of cold sake and the waiter brought it in an ice bucket. Nice. We started with the pork dumplings. The dumplings were very goof but came in a hot thick sweet peanut sauce. With a lighter sauce these would have been outstanding. The scallop was huge and had a bunch of stuff on it. There was some good scallop flavor but it was masked with all the stuff that tasted like old oil. The noodle dish was good but also had some old oil flavor coming from somewhere. All the meats and vegetables were nice and fresh but the good sauce I think was the source of the oil. We saw a table next to us had the pork chops and was asked, what are those? So we got that too. The chops were thin bone in with a batter fried then soaked in a vinegar sauce. These would have been good as our only item with a bowl of rice. Our co-eaters there had many good looking things. I would give this a try again but would bring a few more people so we could try more stuff. Total for all that including the sake was $100 Canadian. Not bad!
