I've never had to wait to be seated, but it always seems like there are 60 other people there. Good for small groups, especially if you like to people-watch. There's no bad seat in the place, and you've got a few options: chill at the bar and watch one of the several TVs, grab a booth or snag a seat outdoors, underneath the big shady umbrellas and enjoy the sights. Were were fortunate the host was able to get us a clean outdoor table during Porch Fest 2022 in Adam's Morgan. Prime seating for people watching on a warm enough fall day. We were close enough to enjoy the outdoor music from Madams Organ while being able to conduct a range of conversations. This on a day when people stood in line at less entertaining spots along the strip. But what this review is really about were the delicious, crispy, filling fish tacos. First time I ever had three fish tacos and felt like I had a good meal. And I've had them San Diego to DC. This is my new favorite and a new reason to drive from VA to DC. I may prefer the best house blend coffee in DC at the owner's original place nearby, (Tryst), but I know to come to the Diner to eat! Will take and post pictures next time before devouring more of these delicious tacos. Oh, and thanks to the host who was knowledgeable about the history of Tryst, the Diner, and the other cafes owned by Constantine. Revisited the Diner 3 years after coming for the first time. It wasn't as good as I remembered, though I suspect the fact that it was late on a Friday night had something to do with the quality suffering. I had a grilled cheese with bacon added and French fries on the side. It was probably about as good a grilled cheese as I could make at home -- not terrible, something to eat, but definitely not restaurant quality. The bacon wasn't crispy enough and the bread was just super underwhelming. Generic American cheese. The fries tasted like they had been frozen, but they're fries, so they weren't totally awful. I mainly came here so I could get a boozy milkshake. My oreo milkshake last time stuck in my mind as one of the best milkshakes I'd ever had. Unfortunately, I didn't dig my milkshake this time. I got the Muddy Waters. It had a really lovely flavor, but the alcohol wasn't very strong. My main problem, though, was the coffee grounds -- almost every sip had some gritty grounds in it. I love the coffee flavor, but I wasn't expecting that to be such a huge problem. I never got feedback from my boyfriend about the fish and chips, but my friend always gets the Veggie Reuben, which he gives high marks. Still, the Diner is a cool, fun place to go out, and it's open all night, which is a huge plus. Our service was friendly, prompt, and on-the-spot. read more

Friend wanted to stop here because she is a huge fan of their milkshakes. When we arrived, it took several minutes for us to get seated, no big deal though. One friend got a Caesar salad, but it arrived without croutons, other friend ordered mozzarella sticks but one of them was completely hollow, it was just fried breadcrumbs without cheese. Both of these items were quick fixes though. My other friend grabbed her usual milkshake, which she loved, but I chose a boozy shake. I want to say my shake was called "the Appalachian", it was a vanilla based shake mixed with bourbon, maple syrup and bacon bits sprinkled at the top and bottom of the glass. That damn shake was delicious and worth every calorie consumed. The interior had that classic diner feel, and the menu had a decent array of diner classics. The service was a bit dodgy, but the servers were definitely friendly. Overall, a cute spot in Adams Morgan. read more

I came in simply just to sit at the bar and have a diet coke after getting pretty hot and sweaty running many errands by foot and it was the one of the best services I've ever experienced. I think they would have refilled my cup every minute if I was drinking that quickly - everyone seemed like they enjoyed working there, was genuinely friendly. Cons: super loud Latin music that didn't match the old-timey-diner ambiance, waitress took our order and never came back. We had to flag down the owner and another waiter for refills. These quite extraordinary place found in this district was quite a fine. Initially looking for a salvage restaurant which currently closed down we were looking for alternatives. Ultimately we came in for greeted and offered a typical American diner menu but with some exquisite changes to some of their products. As I came with my family they all had different options. One ordered a cheeseburger with bacon called the cowboy burger they loved it. My daughter had the chicken sandwich which is a chicken fried sandwich was for the chicken was because of the bun, enough said about that it was incredibly delicious according to her. I myself have a great turkey club sandwich which was well prepared and a soda fruit which I enjoyed which was a great variety of fruit offer. I spoil myself with a vanilla milkshake which was incredibly well done and nice and thick like you expected. Love this place love the service it was quick and delicious highly recommend it. My friend and I came here around 12:00pm on a Saturday and were told the wait was about 20 minutes, but it ended up being only about 10 minutes. I had the Eggs Sardou which was a take on Eggs Benedict comprised of an english muffin, tomato, creamy spinach and artichokes, scrambled eggs, and hollandaise sauce. It was absolutely delicious, and so filling. The Eggs Sardou was served with a side of fresh fruit, and I also ordered a side of Home Fries, which were perfectly crispy. Service was slow, but our waitress warned us at the beginning of our meal that the kitchen was incredibly backed up (while we were there, they actually had to stop seating people because of the backup). The Diner is a must go if you're in the Washington D.C. The restaurant is very busy and you may have to wait to be seated between 15-30min, so be prepared to wait for a bit. They have a large number of outdoor and indoor seating options. The service was pretty good and the server Willy was very personable and provided great food recommendations. Willy suggested the Hibiscus Margarita and my husband and I were pleasantly surprised, it was delicious. The food is scrumptious and leaves you feeling full but not stuffed. The French toast, grits and omelet were all memorable. One suggestion is to request less jalapeños, the omelet with the jalapeños is on the spicy side. I requested substitutions for the sour cream and pepper jack cheese on my omelet and Willy made it happen. I would definitely recommend The Diner for a great breakfast or brunch. read more

It's hard to beat your classic diner fare on a Sunday morning! While the meal is (unsurprisingly) a little more expensive given it's prime location in DC, the food quality was great. The French toast was thick and fluffy just like I prefer, and the corned beef hash provided the savory/salty addition I was looking for. Coffee came out quick and was refilled frequently. The restaurent didnt seem fancy or upscale on the contrary its very casual. I went to the restaurant for dinner and got the Breakfast Burger and a Mexican Hot Toddy. The Breakfast Burger came with the burger, fried egg, bacon, and cheese. It was a pretty basic burger and nothing overly special. If you're looking for an easy burger in the AdMo area I would get their Breakfast Burger. The Mexican Hot Toddy was tequila, chamomile tea, honey, and hot water. It was good and definitely strong. I have loved going to the diner for years. It's a great place for high quality food at reasonable prices. The atmosphere is fun, with a high tin ceiling and lunch counter, booths and tables. Service is fast and friendly. They serve a full complement of breakfast foods all day, and the portions are generous. My go to is the turkey club. The turkey is warm and off the bone. No processed cold cuts here. Another favorite is the turkey platter- it's like thanksgiving any time you want! And if you really want some fun, they have a Bitcoin atm by the front door. read more

Why can't every city have The Diner. We had the best Egg White Veggie Omelets, Blueberry Pancakes...uhhhhhhhh. Almost want to get on a plane to dine again at The Diner. Great Service there is direct and efficient. She got our complex order with modifications correct on the 1st try! Love it. She was sharp! The neighborhood is excellent. Feel free to take a stroll after your meal. If you stroll enough, you can return to The Diner for another meal. We walked over from our Washington Hilton Hotel. The staff there told us about The Diner. Prices less than you would pay in the LA area and much better food here. What am I going to do? Move to DC just to eat at the The Diner all the time? Maybe? I would definitely recommend The Diner! This place has great food *and reallllly good milkshakes*. I would recommend the breakfast tots, the breakfast burrito, or (if you're feeling more lunch-y) the BLT. My boyfriend also loves the chicken biscuit breakfast. The home fries are also delicious! We usually split the cookies n' cream shake - couldn't recommend more! This place is the best for breakfast after a night out. :) The only reason I've taken off a star is because of the price - breakfasts/lunch will cost you about $10-15 which I think is a little pricey for a diner. This place has a special spot in my heart from random visits both post clubbing and afternoon lunch memories, all of which are good. Nostalgia aside, this place has good quality food, is open late and is my go-to spot even after leaving the DMV for late night food if I'm in Adam's Morgan or on U st. This time around I ordered fish and chips. The fish was small portioned but the fish itself was very meaty so this made up for the portion size. All of my friends loved thier orders and we were served promptly and without issue. This place has alot of character and tends to get really busy later on as club/bar/hookah goers flood in from a fun night. But my experience has always been positive. If you are a stiff, stuck up person you may not like this place. It may be too lively for you. But everyone else, feel welcome.
