I guess this bar is what it's named after. Lots of tall boys in the literal sense as well as tall men. I came with a tall boy (my husband) and I think the only other woman was working in the kitchen. The bar had maybe 10 guys here mostly tall to average height. Do what you like with this information ;) This bar is fine. Inexpensive by DC standards and had a nice variety of beers. I had a draft cider and it was really refreshing. We shared some mozzarella sticks. The bartender was busy talking or working on something on a computer and felt no need to acknowledge us for at least 5minutes while we were standing at the bar. A local man walked in she immediately waited on him before us even though he got there after us. It was an odd vibe for sure. My friend had ordered a Togo order online and the bartender was very rude saying "I understand what you're sayin, but you need to understand what I'm sayin" when someone is just trying to figure out where the food they paid for is is wild. I was out the other night and wanted some guaranteed good wings, so I hopped on the train from U street to come to Tallboy. Service: I arrived at 11pm, and they close at 12am. I asked if it would be easier if I ordered food to go, but the bartender said that I had time to eat there. His service was decent, no fluff. 7/10. Ambiance: This place has a chill kinda divey bar vibe that is inviting to me. They have outdoor seating which is nice during the day (I sat outside the first time I came here) 9/10 Drinks: They have a huge selection of beers which I loved. I ordered the Hefeweizen (Triple Crossing Dagwood) and it was delicious. 10/10 Food: This time the wings were mid. The flavor of the sauces on the wings were still really good. I had the honey sriracha and the garlic buffalo. The wings themselves were on the dryer side. The blue cheese dressing is prepackaged blue cheese dressing, so it's not as good as fresh made, but decent. The fries are very good. They are about the size of McDonalds fries. I ate them all. 6.5/10. Value: I found the food to be very expensive for what i received. I paid $14 for 6 wings. That's over $2 per wing. The French fries, though good, cost $6. The beer was $10 which is standard pricing in my opinion. With a 20% tip, I paid in total $39 for 6 wings, a side of fries, and 1 beer. 4/10 Other: You get a pager when you order, and when that pager goes off, you must get up and retrieve your own food from the window. Also, when I ordered I was asked if I wanted to keep my tab open or close it out. I decided to close it out. At that point I was charged for my entire meal including tip before I even received my drink. That was a bit strange. 5/10 Overall: 7/10, according to my calculations. I have rounded up as are out of 5. I was very satisfied by the food the first time, but this time was underwhelming. I would have never guessed that the sweetness of the honey mixed with the spicy savoriness of the sriracha would work well together, but it for sure does! TallBoy is a new neighborhood bar that has reasonably priced drinks and bar munchies, served until last call every night. A good addition to the area that lacks late night food options. 4 stars because it's a laidback place to hang out, drinks and food are decent and prices aren't outrageous as is with many establishments in the area. Wings are $10 for 8, which is a good deal. Meaty wings, a variety of sauces/flavors which are all pretty good. But the sauces are my favorites - buffalo, general tso, and lemon pepper were great. The wings themselves are baked and not fried, but still turn out pretty good. Grilled cheese are also pretty good. Could use more cheese, but they're covered in butter before hitting the press, giving them great texture. Served with smoked tomato soup which complements them well. Not sure what to do with potato chips though. Will be back for a casual drink before or a late night bite. They also have HH deals until 7 during the week. read more

Tallboy is im the Convention Center and offers up two of life's simple pleasures under one rood: tallboy cans of beer and a selection of grilled cheese sandwiches. Is anything more warm and comforting that a grilled cheese? They have one, the kim cheese, that is a standout for me. It has kimchi and bacon added to create a unique sandwich with deeper flavor than you'll find in another grilled cheese. I've also heard great things about the wings, but I'm too busy eating grilled cheese to try the wings. The prices are low, the options are tasty, and they have tvs with whatever sports are on. Although we weren't starving and just had ramen, we still had to give the wings and grilled cheese a try. Our waitress was raving about the general tso's wings, so we gave those a try along with the lemon pepper. You can do half and half. For the grilled cheese, we ordered the "OG" which was just cheddar. Wings were not bad, would prob do sauce on the side next time or just get them naked. Good wing, just not a huge fan of the sauce, or the lemon pepper seasoning. As for the grilled cheese, dis not care for the cheddar for a plain grilled cheese. Known for their vast array of tallboy cans as well as a menu mostly consisting of wings, grilled cheese sandwiches , and fries. Good TV situation for having a chill night watching a game or the Oscars as was the case on this Sunday. We got a bunch of different wing flavors. My buddy and I loved all of the sauces and they give 8 - 9 wings in an order which is good in this area of DC. Buffalo & General Tso's sauces were particularly enjoyable. The drawback to their wings is they are baked which won't give that great crispy taste so many of us enjoy in wings. Stopped in Tallboy during football on a Sunday. My party and I were not greeted by anyone so we sat ourselves at a table. After 15 minutes the bartender yelled that we needed to come to the bar to order. We walked over and to place the order, but had questions about the types of tequila they offered and the response was "walk over there and see I can't bring all the bottles down here." Now I'm not a bartender but you should be able to name a few brands you carry, but more importantly the bartender could have just said let's walk down to the other side. Notes: There was seating at both the bar and tables for various size groups.
