Today's experience was a two at best.... The sun and view is what made it worthy of any stars. Waitress was a total b*tch...snarky and just plain rude. She didn't bother telling us about the yummy sounding specials (overheard another waitress telling her table). She never came over to ask how things were and if she had, she'd know that there a big old black hair laying on top of the chicken tenders and my burger was essentially boiled meat, not the usual delicious burger I always get here. The bus boy seemed more concerned. In the midst of waiting 45 minutes for the above items, the waitress explains that the wait is due to the 'boss man' calling in a to-go order for 8. Classy. Went on a Saturday with unusually warm weather for a Fall day. Birthday lunch with the girls. As expected, it was packed but we made it just in time to avoid a wait. It took forever for our server to come over. We ordered drinks and lunch to help save some time. We waited a long time and our food ended up arriving BEFORE our drinks! I get it - it's a nice day and busy, but come on people! I had to ask 3 times to get tarter sauce, which was quickly getting cold. I shared a seafood platter and a rum bucket (which I did not share). Food was great. Atmosphere was great. Service was SLOW, although our waitress was nice...when we saw her. Prices were up there, but I guess you're paying for the view. Not sure I'd go back when there's so many other places to choose from in Newburyport with better food and prices. The view was great, but not worth the price! read more

The deck is quick, consistent, and decent. The staff are nice and the menu has something for everyone. Their food is pretty standard and what you'd expect for a touristy American/New England spot. The prices are a little much for what you get, but you really pay for the atmosphere on the water. Parking is a nightmare but they provide valet so they've worked through that a bit. You can give your server your valet ticket as you check out so they get your car from the lot down the street. read more

We stopped for lunch today 6/28/22, I ordered a $34.00 lobster roll which came with fries, the hot dog roll was half full with diced lobster meat and drowned in butter ( not worthy of $34.00). My girlfriend got the fried haddock sandwich, the fish was slimy and breading fell off. By no means am I a person who complains about spending $$$ for a meal. Not inexpensive, but not break the bank eats, they cook right. And from SCRATCH. Breads baked every day. Pulled pork made with melt in your mouth tenderness thanks to our local hero Sam (Adams). Fried clams? FRIED RIGHT! The tartar sauce is home made and its so good, I'd eat it with a spoon (ok, I did...). Fantastic drinks, because they elevate the shelf enough to serve better than rot gut. The place PACKS so expect to wait. And expect to wait for the food. The kitchen is SMALL. so if they are short a staff, they are hauling butt. BUT, (this is my big BUT) - don't let that shy you away. Patience will be rewarded. The hostess is a bit off, not as friendly as the rest of the crew (she sat a group that came after us before us and thought we didn't notice, but I think the 3 single gentlemen were more appealing than us OR they are regulars, so KUDOS for taking care of the regulars....) but if you over look that hostess, focus on Roman and the bar staff, and some of the waitstaff (too soon to pick a favorite), bring cash and shades. The view of the harbor was stunning and our server was excellent. My lobster roll was skimpy; and because it was listed as market price; we had no idea they were $35 each!!!! Totally not worth the money!!! Roasted cauliflower description stated it was a Thai curry. It was not. It was clearly an Indian curry which has a completely different flavor profile than a Thai curry. I don't understand creating a menu and then making something completely different, and not letting patrons know. Ice cream sandwich was huge and delicious. Definitely big enough to share. read more

Went here for the first time today for lunch. It was so delicious. We got calamari to start and it was the best I've had in a long time. Upstairs on Sundays they have a fun band playing ,no food allowed Upstairs or snacks.Every Sunday they allow a handicapped guy come in at 11am and put glasses of water on all the front seats and tables, then he calls his same friends that he has tied up all the front tables ,which they allow every week , the seats are empty till 1:30 because he takes over the tables not allowing new customers to enjoy the music.. read more

This is a place to sit outside, enjoy your surrounding and be prepared for noisy parties to surround you. My first time here with my college friend from the area she had the fish sandwich shared some of the fries with me my fave skin on skinny. I had the beet salad and how refreshing finally beets with beets! Too ofttimes you get a beet salad and it's one small beet sliced this must've been 3-4 beets. I got the balsamic vinaigrette dressing instead because I don't know what is in a green goddess it came with and don't like creamy; we dipped our fries in the leftover dressing that was delish. I had a cool tap brew thinking we were going to have a wait for our table we went up to the bar and ordered- the top deck; I think all of their seating is outside hence 'Deck!' It was just the two of us so while for the regular high square tables there was a half hour wait I noticed the water side straight table had open seating; five minutes we were sitting out on the waterfront watching the full moon rise and the waitress was lovely too. read more

This is the only outdoor dining restaurant worth going to in the Newburyport area IMO. There's a big upscale fresh pub menu that's great. Chef Matt has made an awesome menu using only top notch ingredients, so whether getting one of their amazing burgers, caprese salad or brined chicken fingers, it's a special meal made w TLC. The upper deck bar has incredible views across to Newburyport, Bridge and Rings Island Marinas and beyond. Went there for early dinner with a friend. We were seated at a table in the bar area, which was fine until a group of loud, boorish, invasive people arrived at the bar. In addition to the loudness (I could no longer hear my friend and the next table couldn't hear their family members around the table), this group kept spreading into our table/dining space. Message to bartender and management: When all 3 tables have to get up and relocate because of obnoxious bar guests, maybe it's time to curtail the obnoxious bar guests! Our server was wonderful and very understanding, but by the time we were assigned a new table, our (mediocre) food was now cold. Will not return. read more

My wife and I are staying at the state park nearby and wanted to eat near the water and have fish. Hence The Deck. I ordered the baked haddock and she ordered the broiled scallops. We were both very disappointed. My haddock had about a quarter inch of bead crumbs that appeared to be added after cooking. I scraped them all off and was surprised at the small amount of fish I got. It had no flavor at all. My wife's scallops looked like scallop soup. She said there was no taste to it. We both tried each other's dish and agreed. These meals and two drinks each cost $105 before the tip. Shame on this restaurant and shame on us for thinking a restaurant on the water serves good seafood. I should hapve gone to Stop n Shop or Market Basket and bought their fish. The only reason I gave two stars was the view sitting outside. Sadly this is probably why the food sucks. They don't need to worry about their food quality. read more

Place is super fun, right on the water which makes for a cold but pretty atmosphere. They do have heat lamps but seating is all outside. Drink menu is pretty good, decent craft beer selection. We got the calamari app with sweet chili sauce, it was very tasty not chewy at all! They add banana peppers in the dish as well. For dinner i got the grilled chicken sandwich with fried cheese and chipotle mayo, they put cilantro on it too, i like cilantro but they use it like lettuce... it has no business on a sandwich stems and all as a lettuce component. I ended up taking it off and the sandwich itself was very good. Our waitress was very sweet, attentive but not overbearing. Will definitely go again read more

We were there on a Monday and it was busy by 12:30 so arrive early for your choice of seating. Menu wasn't too showy, which made decisions easy. OKAY Octavius is doing another local restaurant (to my home) review. The Deck. Octavius loves The Deck. There was a fire there a couple years ago and it was rebuilt into a seasonal 2 story restaurant/bar right on the Merrimack River over looking downtown Newburyport. The decor, set up and atmosphere is awesome. Of course, I would only go there on a nice day because it is outside and it may even be closed when rainy. Call ahead. The downstairs is the restaurant and upstairs is for only 21 and older. The staff is great and the drinks are the best around. A really fun place to go! The food ... it does have a limited menu but what it has is pretty good. I haven't been disappointed yet and I've been there maybe a dozen times. I've had the fried scallops, which were tasty albeit a small portion for 28 bucks, the burger, good burger with sweet potato fries, and they have an interesting chicken sandwich which is my go to. Went here on a summer night and it was busy busy as you would expect. My mojito was perfect, crisp and fresh with real ingredients, the way it should be done. I had the crab cake sandwich which was seasoned just right and the mango topping made it perfect. Other dishes at the table were fish and chips, veggie burger with mushrooms. I was told the mushrooms were delicious and the veggies burger wasn't all dried and freezer burnt like you get at some places.
