This place came recommended because of its location, walkability and proximity to the stores. I was told that I booked the "best room" on the top floor. Problem 1: I was greeted by someone who did not work the front desk; he was awkward and he wreaked of cigarettes. He showed me to my room and tried explaining how the TV remotes worked. Across my 3 days/2nights stay, I ran into this person twice. He was outside smoking and drinking coffee on the front porch. Problem 2: Every surface in my room was dusty, dirty, scratched or dinged (see photos). The bed linens were nothing special; mostly things you can buy at walmart...target at best. I heard people snoring in different rooms below me every evening. Because of these issues, I decided to skip the free continental breakfast. Problem 3: Any book, vase, artwork or decoration inside of this inn felt like it was bought at Goodwill.

We stayed in the suite on the 3rd floor, this is a small inn, no elevator, so pack light & be mobile. Breakfast was decent, enough to get me started and if you need more there are places a short walk away. I was asked several times if everything was okay, so they care about guests here. Our last day the hot water took a long time to get warm but it did finally. Parking can be tough but we had a small car so that helped. We were there for a family event in town, wish I had more time it's a 10 min walk to the train station to got to NYC. Several restaurants in town, a bit of shopping, cool record store & foods market.

This was one of the best hotel experiences I have had recently. From the book lined entrance to the library /reading room to the very well laid out breakfast, this was the bibliophile's ultimate country estate experience - in the middle of New Jersey! My room was exceptionally well appointed, very clean, and quiet. The checkin was a breeze and Jimmy was friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.

Room #7. Shabby and smelled like cigarette smoke

The brochure says; "Your Luxury Boutique Inn" SERIOUSLY? This place is a dump. Look at my pictures and judge for yourself. The truly sad part is that there is soooo much potential. It could be really charming but the neglect and the cheap fixes make it nothing more than a stay in your grandmother's basement with furniture found by the roadside. Motel 6 is classier.

Old and loud! You can hear every noise at night. Impossible to get decent sleep. Could be great but needs major updates.

I stayed here this past weekend (9/22/2023) and I could not have been happier with my stay!…read more I grew up in Summit but had never actually been inside of the hotel. I have no family left in this part of NJ, so when I needed to book lodging for a wedding, this hotel was a great choice! I'll get the ding out of the way first. The hotel is under construction, so the atrium, the Hat Tavern, and several other areas of the hotel are closed. In addition, there was construction noise, although it was not terrible. The construction and lack of access to several of the amenities was not disclosed on the hotel's website. I still would have booked my stay here; it just would have been nice to know about it ahead of time, especially as it was a rainy weekend so access to the Hat Tavern would have saved a lot of getting rained on! The future plans for the hotel sound really exciting - a private dining club, a Turkish hammam and spa. Our room had already been renovated and was a huge upgrade from the photos on their website. The bathroom was spacious and the shower had great pressure. The bed was extremely comfortable as well! I definitely had a hard time getting up every morning! The included breakfast (7AM- 10AM) was extensive and very much welcome, especially given the weather. Staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful! On our day of departure, our flight was not until 7:30PM. They gave us late check out (1PM) and stored our bags so we could be mobile. We had a leftover bottle of champagne (what?!). When we returned to the hotel after our rainy adventures with an hour or so to kill before heading to the airport, the woman at the front desk got us an ice bucket and some glasses so we could sit in the lobby and enjoy the smooth jazz on the sound system. It was a super relaxing way to spend our last hour in NJ before the horror of the airport.

Upon check in the staff was so so, as they could have been more pleasant. At one point I said hi to a front desk employee and he looked and didn't say anything in response. Breakfast is available but wasn't included with my room. That said, they had complimentary coffee and Happy Hour specials at the Bar. My King Bed Room was a good size. Indoor pool was more for the kids vs for Laps. Parking is free. A good selection of stores and restaurants nearby. Check-in was easy/quick and I got lucky and was able to check-in early (11:30) on a Friday. Service was friendly and upbeat. Great option close to Newark (EWR) and will stay here again.

You will feel like you are in a movie. The restaurant is expensive and ok. The drinks are small. $20 for a tiny glass of wine. The martinis according to my husband were horrible. The menu is somewhat limited but what we had was ok. The waitstaff was really nice! The rooms: obviously old now renovated. Comfortable. Not luxurious. Not large. But fine. I'd stay a night for the atmosphere and the location is great! But I prefer the short hills Hilton or now renovated Madison hotel for serious hotel stay time. They are more comfy and have things this doesn't like phones in the room (like is there room service or what?) Also the wifi did not work for 2 of the days I stayed.

That said, there are several things I didn't like. I walked into a room that costs around $300 a night, and it was honestly one of the smallest hotel rooms I've ever stayed in in NJ. For the same price, you can stay at the Archer and get nearly double the square footage. The size wouldn't bother me as much if the room were exceptionally clean, but it wasn't. The room was dusty and didn't feel thoroughly cleaned. In the middle of the night, I had to get up when I stood on the rug, something bit my foot. I have no idea if there's some kind of bug issue, but regardless, that is not something you expect to experience in a hotel room! There were also basic things missing from the room: no Q-tips or basic toiletries in the bathroom, no phone in the room, and no pen--which I actually needed. These may seem like small details, but they're the kinds of basic amenities you use... And finally, if you're a light sleeper... The doors slam extremely loudly, and unfortunately, guests don't seem to be very courteous about closing them gently. Idkw I really like the concept, atmosphere, location, and friendliness of the staff but a more comfortable stay i would choose the Archer if it's available, or the Embassy Suites....

My room had a slightly dusty floor, based on what I saw on my socks when I took them off, but everything else was spotless, especially the bathroom, which is most important to me. My shower had great water pressure and more than enough hot water, so bonus points there! The door stuck as another Yelper noted, but I could easily shut it completely with minimal effort, so not an issue for me at all. Shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel provided in the shower stall, and facial soap bar, lotion, and mouthwash, which was more bonus points, as I've never seen this provided and I don't like to bottle my own and seal it to bring when I travel! Big screen TV with HBO is in the room, and my king bed was very comfortable, as were the pillows. There were plush bath robes for my use in the closet, but I didn't use them. They were also for sale at front desk. Free breakfast is included, which is in a very nice dining room in the lower level. Breads, cereals, fresh fruit, fruit juices, yogurt, bottled water, and hot food items are provided. I enjoyed scrambled eggs, bacon, and potato wedges on my visit. There was also a waflle iron available, and there was an attendant ensuring everything was kept up and food replenished. There is an on-site restaurabt and bar called Moe's, where colleagues and I had a beer and dinner the night before. I didn't take photos, but I enjoyed grilled shrimp with polenta cakes with a mushroom sauce. Service was good. The dining room and bar were dark with dark colors, so maybe an update with lighter colors and better lighting would add some life and a better atmosphere.
