Located in Summit, this building reminds you of a classic manor and you enter, gorgeous redesign (it used to be a lot less nice according to a local), renovation still going on, but a large new restaurant in Felina upfront, a cigar bar downstairs and rooms in process of being updated. Big wedding/event space available, parking off to the side, and bar upfront. Definitely easy-going service pace, so schedule some time here.

I stayed here this past weekend (9/22/2023) and I could not have been happier with my stay!…read more I grew up in Summit but had never actually been inside of the hotel. I have no family left in this part of NJ, so when I needed to book lodging for a wedding, this hotel was a great choice! I'll get the ding out of the way first. The hotel is under construction, so the atrium, the Hat Tavern, and several other areas of the hotel are closed. In addition, there was construction noise, although it was not terrible. The construction and lack of access to several of the amenities was not disclosed on the hotel's website. I still would have booked my stay here; it just would have been nice to know about it ahead of time, especially as it was a rainy weekend so access to the Hat Tavern would have saved a lot of getting rained on! The future plans for the hotel sound really exciting - a private dining club, a Turkish hammam and spa. Our room had already been renovated and was a huge upgrade from the photos on their website. The bathroom was spacious and the shower had great pressure. The bed was extremely comfortable as well! I definitely had a hard time getting up every morning! The included breakfast (7AM- 10AM) was extensive and very much welcome, especially given the weather. Staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful! On our day of departure, our flight was not until 7:30PM. They gave us late check out (1PM) and stored our bags so we could be mobile. We had a leftover bottle of champagne (what?!). When we returned to the hotel after our rainy adventures with an hour or so to kill before heading to the airport, the woman at the front desk got us an ice bucket and some glasses so we could sit in the lobby and enjoy the smooth jazz on the sound system. It was a super relaxing way to spend our last hour in NJ before the horror of the airport.

Staff was friendly. 1 star off: Even though the hotel is located in a residential area, there was still quite a bit of street noise. The walls were thin and either construction noise or a neighbor's alarm woke me up every morning. Breakfast was included. There was a Starbucks conveniently located right in the lobby, i.e. you can roll out of bed and get a coffee without putting on the whole gear to go outside in the cold. Happy hour occurs every afternoon, and upon check-in, I was given a few drink tickets. I didn't end up using them, but it was a nice add-on.

There was also a large Christmas tree outside when I walked up. Now for what's the same as in get past... omelette bar! Complimentary hospitality hour with adult beverages and snacks (be sure get a ticket at the desk if you check-in on the app), large spacious rooms and bathrooms with modern updates! I love the proximity of this hotel to the Newark airport (around 25 minutes away). I also love that there is a Starbucks and restaurant (grain and cane) downstairs for convenience. I took advantage of both for an evening beverage (they Starbucks closes at 6pm) and dinner. This hotel is located in a quiet business area and I love that there is ample free lot parking which I've found to be quite rare with Jersey hotels! The front desk staff are very nice and even took the time to ask how my dinner was! This also seemed to be a very popular wedding guest hotel based on large groups I saw checking in and wedding guest gifts behind the desk. I'll be sure to consider this hotel as an option next time I'm in the area, especially before a flight out of EWR.

REVIEW AS EVENT SPACE ONLY (SECRET TEA ROOM):…read more I attended a baby shower held at the DeBary Inn in Summit last weekend. This was my first time inside the building, which was built circa 1880, and also at a Cream Tea. It was a lovely experience! Secret Tea Room is a pop-up company that creates classic English tea party experiences. They host events at four locations - DeBary Inn and Reeves-Reed Arboretum (Summit), Morven Museum and Gardens (Princeton), and Van Vleck Gardens (Montclair). Great attention to details! Everyone loved the table settings and chinaware. The loose leaf teas were wonderful; that day, we had an apple cider, Ceylon, and green tea. Then came out the tiers. Oh, the scones! The scones are baked on premise, so they were fresh and delicious. At one point, the hosts also walked around table to table with fresh scones from the oven. It was so nice. I overheard a guest from another table joke, "Oh, you can leave the tray of 17 right here for us please. Thank you!" lol Because it's December, the DeBary Inn was decorated for the holidays with a lighted tree. Many guests took selfies in the living room/greeting area. It was a cute venue and party concept for a baby shower!

We were pleased and have no regrets after staying here for the 1st time. Our room was huge, had a fridge and a comfy bed. Indoor pool was more for the kids vs for Laps. Parking is free. A good selection of stores and restaurants nearby. Check-in was easy/quick and I got lucky and was able to check-in early (11:30) on a Friday. Service was friendly and upbeat. Great option close to Newark (EWR) and will stay here again.

My room had a slightly dusty floor, based on what I saw on my socks when I took them off, but everything else was spotless, especially the bathroom, which is most important to me. My shower had great water pressure and more than enough hot water, so bonus points there! The door stuck as another Yelper noted, but I could easily shut it completely with minimal effort, so not an issue for me at all. Shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel provided in the shower stall, and facial soap bar, lotion, and mouthwash, which was more bonus points, as I've never seen this provided and I don't like to bottle my own and seal it to bring when I travel! Big screen TV with HBO is in the room, and my king bed was very comfortable, as were the pillows. There were plush bath robes for my use in the closet, but I didn't use them. They were also for sale at front desk. Free breakfast is included, which is in a very nice dining room in the lower level. Breads, cereals, fresh fruit, fruit juices, yogurt, bottled water, and hot food items are provided. I enjoyed scrambled eggs, bacon, and potato wedges on my visit. There was also a waflle iron available, and there was an attendant ensuring everything was kept up and food replenished. There is an on-site restaurabt and bar called Moe's, where colleagues and I had a beer and dinner the night before. I didn't take photos, but I enjoyed grilled shrimp with polenta cakes with a mushroom sauce. Service was good. The dining room and bar were dark with dark colors, so maybe an update with lighter colors and better lighting would add some life and a better atmosphere. Overall, I was very happy with my stay, and I thought it was a great value! I would stay here again and recommend it.
