An actual moment of time from 1982 stuck in a time capsule. The decor is very retro with 80's vibes. Peep the Grecian-like statues of horses, vertical chandeliers and popcorn ceilings. It's very dull and dark in here. Carpeting is so old. The place needs brighter lightbulbs and an overall superficial refresh. Food was good. Seafood bisque was creamy and fresh. Nice chunks of lobster in there! Veal was tender. Meatballs-meh. But who orders meatballs outside of mama's? (Hint-not me) Ceaser salad,eh. Overall, it's an old spot with decent food.

Recently went here with my family for Thanksgiving and it was a delight. For $40 per person, you got a buffet with your traditional T-Giving works plus Italian food(different pastas, meatballs etc).. You also get the kid friendly things like chicken fingers and fries(kids pay much less)... Additionally, they had a nice spread of prosciutto, salami and variety of cheeses.. But best of all, they had the never ending shrimp cocktails which I probably ate my worth in weight :) Very nice staff and service was very prompt whenever we needed a refill on drinks or when ordering our deserts. The owner, Bobby, was there and he was very personable and greeted each guest. I will definitely go back to try out the restaurant on a normal day!

Just had an amazing Italian meal at The Appian Way. The owner, Bobby, was warm and inviting. Such a sweetheart. We started with the garlic shrimp. We love garlic and this meal did not disappoint. Dip their warm, fresh-from-the-oven bread.... Yum... I then had the Shrimp Fra Diavlo. Best t I've ever had. And all throughout, the staff checked in and made sure all was well. I cannot wait to return. Woohoo!

Due to the pandemic we was not able have to have the big anniversary party we wanted. So we decided to book something small intimate. From the moment I got my 1st tour, I was sold by the affordable packages, spacious rooms and outstanding hospitality from Bobby the owner. He sat us down went through everything and made us feel like family. Basic decor is included such as your choice of linens and centerpieces. I was able to bring additional decor and throne chairs are available for rent which looked great for our sweetheart table. Bobby helped me set the room and and he did a great job decorating my sweetheart table. The night of event was great. Food came out fresh, hot and delicious. We had a family style package. Bobby and his staff were very attentive . I was so happy with everything. Thank you Bobby for such an wonderful evening!

We booked our wedding based upon our wonderful dining experiences at Appian. We expected good food, service, and ambiance. What we experienced on the day of our wedding far exceeded every single expectation. The food - the food was off the charts. We expected a small cocktail hour, and what we experienced was a tremendous amount of delicious food - from penne vodka to stuffed mushrooms to artichoke hearts francese to chicken wings... to beyond. The chicken wings may see like they came out of left field, given that it's an Italian venue, but I heard compliments all night (and the next day) regarding the tenderness and juiciness of the wings. Dinner was a three hour continuous buffet. Bobby convinced my husband and I to make plates for our sweetheart table before he opened it up to the guests, and this was a stellar move. In between dancing, we'd grab a bite and then get right back to the dance floor. The dinner buffet was incredible. Prior to the event, we chose a few of our favorite Appian dishes - the Michelangelo rigatoni, the eggplant rollatini, the chicken giambotta - and Bobby said he would "handle the rest." While I am a bit of a micromanager, I trusted Bobby's expertise and am so happy I did. Among the giant buffet, there was a tower of shrimp cocktail, an ode to my (now) husbands obsession with Appian shrimp cocktail. There were meat displays, including a tower of prosciutto. There was broccoli rabe and sausage, which was a perfect dish for the paleo, gluten free, and dairy free among us. For dessert, in addition to the tiered red velvet wedding cake, Bobby provided complimentary pastries on all of the guest tables (which everyone raved about). The dining experience was second to none. The service - the bartenders, Barbara and Jameel, did a fantastic job at the main bar. Every drink was provided with a smile and every time I or my husband went up to the bar, it was already poured before we actually got there and ordered it. What amazing service! The table waiters did a great job of frequently clearing plates and being attentive to guest needs. Bobby, the owner and event coordinator, was on top of every single detail throughout the event. He was present throughout the entire event, from before our arrival/set up to long after we left. Anything we needed, we went to Bobby and he got it handled immediately. Ambiance - we frequent Appian often for dinner, but have never attended an event in either of the banquet rooms. We were blown away with how beautiful the rooms were with the lighting on, the florals arranged, and happy guests flooding the floor. We got married in the chapel room, and it truly felt like a chapel. It perfectly and comfortably fit our 107 guests, photographer, videographer, and two musicians. The reception followed in the banquet room. While it was technically one room that encompassed the cocktail hour and reception, there were lace curtains that separated the guest tables and dance floor from the cocktail hour area. Bobby used the crystal room as the cocktail hour buffet, and then during speeches, turned the space over for the dinner buffet. We truly loved every moment of our wedding. It could not have been more perfect and I attribute that to the care, attention, and love that Bobby and his staff put into our event.

And I asked for a Shrimp "Martini " OMG!

AWESOME! ask and you shall receive! Staff = A++++ Management A++++ Kitchen A++++ Attentive A+++ Drinks. A+++. Must! Try Bobby's Espresso Martini!

The rest of our party arrived within five minutes, and while waiting we had a very pleasant conversation. Michael ended up serving us as well, and his attentiveness truly elevated the entire experience. We were seated in a large dining room down a few steps, a space typically used for large parties and events. Since it was the Sunday between Christmas and New Year's, the room was set with four-top tables. We were able to choose our table, which offered a great view of South Orange--something that most tables in this beautifully designed restaurant seem to enjoy. The restaurant is BYOB, and one member of our party brought a bottle of red wine. Giorgio's provided attractive, proper wine glasses, which was a nice touch. For appetizers, we shared the Caprese and Calamari Fritti--both excellent. I ordered one of the specials: bone-in pork chops topped with blue cheese over mushroom risotto. Simply outstanding. Others in our party ordered the Chicken Parmigiana with penne vodka sauce and the mushroom ravioli, and they enjoyed their meals just as much as I did. After dinner, two of us had cappuccinos and one had regular coffee. I ordered the chocolate mousse cake, another guest chose the cheesecake, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed dessert and coffee. Overall, it was an extremely enjoyable evening in a wonderful restaurant with a great location, inviting atmosphere, outstanding service, and excellent food. By the time we left, the restaurant had filled up with what appeared to be many locals and repeat customers--always a great sign.

The food: we tried Tony's salad ($13.50), the baked penne ($14.50), and a classic cheese pie ($14.25). The salad was a robust mix of lettuce, olives, classic salad veggies, two kinds of cheese, and meats. Delicious and really flavorful salad. The pizza is great - you can taste the quality ingredients. That being said, it is a bit doughy. The penne was great albeit a bit basic. All the food felt fresh and truly made to order. Food alone - this is a 4.5 or 5. We happened to have terrible service - missing waters/no refills or extra napkins sort of deal which sort of put a damper on the meal. They were busy with a line out the door and lots of big parties so I will note that.

We know we were lucky as a few guests shortly after us had 30 min waits. Service was quick and friendly - they were very accommodating to find a table with room for a stroller. We ordered a cheese pie and some garlic bread. Within a minute a giant loaf of warm bread came to the table with butter packets. Our 9 yr old was in shock at the quick turnaround but we explained this was the complimentary stuff! He devoured half the loaf alone despite our pleads to save room. The pizza came our fairly quickly as well. They only have one size, which I equate to q chain "medium". I saw the yelp pictures with a bit of char on the edges of the pies (and was secretly hoping for this much to be what would have been my wife's dismay if she knew). No char, no worries. The crust was solid, had a crunch near the edges. They were generous with the sauce and cheese and some brown cooked spots on the cheese were just right. Solid pie- tasted much like a homemade pizza you make at the house (its a compliment). Our only note was that the sauce could use a bit more flavor. It did taste of plain tomato sauce. I think a pie with some toppings would bridge any gap there. Overall I would say a 7.4 on the portnoy scale. One (dozen) bite(s) everyone knows the rules.
