The atmosphere, the service and above all the food was fantastic. Starting with the salad with the tangy dressing, Italian bread and the garlic toast on the table was a perfect compliment. Next, was the rigatoni pasta with red sauce, and the grated romano cheese was the best I ever had tasted. The chicken marsala had two incredibley large pieces of chicken an abundance of mushrooms, vegetables and roasted potatoes. Superb meal ended with a delicious slice of vanilla cake with a fruit filling and the most decadent icing I've had in a very long time. It was a chefs kiss 10 out of 10!!! I have been to Appian Way a few times and every time is a HIT! My dad got married here about 8 years ago, and we have been back many times since then! The wedding was so fun, and the room was gorgeous. I love the old Italian vibe it gives, with many gold accents and stunning mural decor painted on the walls. Every-time we walk in, we are greeted like family! The owner is so nice and funny. We recently started coming back here for Easter Dinner, and he makes sure to stop at our table multiple times to ensure that everything is delicious and share some laughs with us! The food is so yummy. I recently had the braised short ribs with the mashed potatoes and it was delectable! The taters were creamy and the sauce was perfect. Not too salty, and definitely not bland! I am reviewing holding my 70th birthday party at the Appian Way in August. The Appian Way has three different party rooms. All have an open feel and nicely decorated. I dealt with Bobby, the owner and Maitre D'. He was knowledgeable and easy to work with. The party menu has several options so you buy what you want, often with options among the options. If there's a problem, it's that so much choice gets a bit overwhelming at points. I had hot hors d'oeuvre hour plus drinks. Cold options include fruit, salad, American and Italian antipasto. You get to choose from five buffet options. I chose Chicken Murphy (a NJ specialty), Cod Francese, Eggplant Parm, Sausage & Peppers and Linguine with Vegetables. All were excellent. It was easy to find options for vegetarians and pescatarians. Nothing I ate or my guests ate was anything less than excellent. Even my fussy Italian friends liked it and they are a critical bunch. You get to choose a cake. There are two types of icing, five types of cake, ten types of fillings, mousses and custards. After dithering, I chose whipped icing, chocolate cake and Nutella filling. It was delicious and had a pretty design. The rooms all have microphones, podium, giant TV, sound system, high speed Wi-Fi included. You get to choose chair covers, napkins and tablecloth colors. Keeping with a theme, you get a nearly overwhelming selection. Making the pricing easy, sales tax, gratituity, any service charge, Maitre d, set-up and cleaning are all included in your price. The staff is experienced and just knew what they were doing. Any request you had was filled quickly. I loved my birthday party! I loved having it at the Appian Way! It's very dull and dark in here. Carpeting is so old. The place needs brighter lightbulbs and an overall superficial refresh. Food was good. Seafood bisque was creamy and fresh. Nice chunks of lobster in there! Veal was tender. Meatballs-meh. But who orders meatballs outside of mama's? (Hint-not me) Ceaser salad,eh. Overall, it's an old spot with decent food. read more

Recently went here with my family for Thanksgiving and it was a delight. For $40 per person, you got a buffet with your traditional T-Giving works plus Italian food(different pastas, meatballs etc).. You also get the kid friendly things like chicken fingers and fries(kids pay much less)... Additionally, they had a nice spread of prosciutto, salami and variety of cheeses.. But best of all, they had the never ending shrimp cocktails which I probably ate my worth in weight :) Very nice staff and service was very prompt whenever we needed a refill on drinks or when ordering our deserts. From the moment I got my 1st tour, I was sold by the affordable packages, spacious rooms and outstanding hospitality from Bobby the owner. He sat us down went through everything and made us feel like family. Basic decor is included such as your choice of linens and centerpieces. We had our daughters 18th birthday bash here at the Appian Way on February 5th, 2022. We dealt with Bob throughout the whole process. And he was just great! A lot is included in the price you receive. And many other venues don't compare when it comes to price. Helping to save you some money along the way. The rooms are beautiful, and my guests were amazed. The workers were accommodating and helped get our room together way before time. We booked our wedding based upon our wonderful dining experiences at Appian. We expected good food, service, and ambiance. What we experienced on the day of our wedding far exceeded every single expectation. The food - the food was off the charts. We expected a small cocktail hour, and what we experienced was a tremendous amount of delicious food - from penne vodka to stuffed mushrooms to artichoke hearts francese to chicken wings... to beyond. The chicken wings may see like they came out of left field, given that it's an Italian venue, but I heard compliments all night (and the next day) regarding the tenderness and juiciness of the wings. Dinner was a three hour continuous buffet. Bobby convinced my husband and I to make plates for our sweetheart table before he opened it up to the guests, and this was a stellar move. In between dancing, we'd grab a bite and then get right back to the dance floor. The dinner buffet was incredible. Prior to the event, we chose a few of our favorite Appian dishes - the Michelangelo rigatoni, the eggplant rollatini, the chicken giambotta - and Bobby said he would "handle the rest." While I am a bit of a micromanager, I trusted Bobby's expertise and am so happy I did. Among the giant buffet, there was a tower of shrimp cocktail, an ode to my (now) husbands obsession with Appian shrimp cocktail. There were meat displays, including a tower of prosciutto. There was broccoli rabe and sausage, which was a perfect dish for the paleo, gluten free, and dairy free among us. For dessert, in addition to the tiered red velvet wedding cake, Bobby provided complimentary pastries on all of the guest tables (which everyone raved about). The dining experience was second to none. The service - the bartenders, Barbara and Jameel, did a fantastic job at the main bar. Every drink was provided with a smile and every time I or my husband went up to the bar, it was already poured before we actually got there and ordered it. What amazing service! The table waiters did a great job of frequently clearing plates and being attentive to guest needs. Bobby, the owner and event coordinator, was on top of every single detail throughout the event. He was present throughout the entire event, from before our arrival/set up to long after we left. Anything we needed, we went to Bobby and he got it handled immediately. Ambiance - we frequent Appian often for dinner, but have never attended an event in either of the banquet rooms. We were blown away with how beautiful the rooms were with the lighting on, the florals arranged, and happy guests flooding the floor. We got married in the chapel room, and it truly felt like a chapel. It perfectly and comfortably fit our 107 guests, photographer, videographer, and two musicians. The reception followed in the banquet room. While it was technically one room that encompassed the cocktail hour and reception, there were lace curtains that separated the guest tables and dance floor from the cocktail hour area. Bobby used the crystal room as the cocktail hour buffet, and then during speeches, turned the space over for the dinner buffet. We truly loved every moment of our wedding. It could not have been more perfect and I attribute that to the care, attention, and love that Bobby and his staff put into our event. read more

Holy Smokes so Dec.3rd Best friend and I celebrated his Birthday and last night we celebrated mine. The staff was attentive, courteous, warm, caring and friendly. The appetizers (fried calamari and the clams on a half shell) were OUTSTANDING..The calamari was light,airy and looked as if fried in tempura flour they weren't heavy or greasy, light in color and absolutely delightful .One of my FAVES from now on. A family who has lost their son to Covid; contacted Bobby to reschedule their event schedule for 3/2021- Bobby refused to reschedule the event during a Pandemic ( with numbers rising) without taking a fee and advises that he will take 80% fee for rescheduling; when I questioned why he was taking an $800 fee, he became irate and disconnected the line. Bobby's attitude and no remorse was unsettling; his failure to explain his fees makes me question ever doing business with him. read more

I cannot begin to express my disappointment in this place. First, let me say that my parents held their reception here in the late '50s, and as a family, we've had many nice meals here over the years, so the Appian Way has been a part of our lives for a long time. But four years ago, my sister and I held a surprise 80th birthday party for my mom, and the food was a disaster. The chicken was like sawdust and the vegetables were colorless and overcooked. There was also a pasta dish that was tasty, but was obviously a mishmash from the night before. In fact, the whole meal was reheated from some other event. I don't know if they thought a bunch of senior ladies wouldn't notice, but believe me, they did. And so did I. I nearly choked when we went into the office to pay the bill. Why didn't I say anything before now? Because my mom asked me not to. She liked Bobby and thought she might like to go there again, so she asked me to let it go, and I did. Until now. My mom passed away last month, so I am beholden no more. That meal was a disgrace, and it wasn't cheap. And Bobby was there that day. How in God's name did he let that meal come out of the kitchen? There's no one on this earth I loved more than my mom, and the Appian Way nearly blew her party. Thank god for all the love and joy among the guests, as that's what made it. Everything about their take out service was on point. Surprisingly the expected wait was only 30 minutes for a Saturday night and a very kind driver delivered it on the minute. The food was hot and couldn't have tasted any better. By far the best food we've tried so far since moving to West Orange last year. Just finished my crabmeat and shrimp cocktail and I have never had a better seafood martini... I get this all the time and this is by far the best lump crab meat and cocktail sauce I've ever tried. Dinner still awaits me, but I can't even fathom anything less than perfection! The few specials were all so difficult to choose from, but I went with the chicken stuffed with crab and shrimp while my lady went with chicken principessa. And all for a VERY reasonable price! My husband's family has been celebrating special events at the Appian Way for several decades now and after my engagement party I completely understand why. From start to finish every detail was taken care of so all I had to do was enjoy the party. I choose peach as my party color and I walked in the door to a glittering peach palace. The buffet was gigantic and impressively displayed. The service was great and the bar tender kept pace with my very thirsty crowd. Once the dancing started the peach lights gave way to a multi colored show that enhanced the party atmosphere and made for some spectacular photos. Our personalized cupcake tower was almost too beautiful to eat but was impressively, equally delicious. Our diverse group of guests were all blown away. I can not recommend this venue highly enough. I was here recently for a catered affair. My review is based only on catering. The food was not good at all. From the chicken francese (not sure) to the cold cut platters, nothing was memorable. The sausage and peppers were edible, but they too were drowned in red sauce. I don't understand why a restaurant would serve anyone such a poor quality of food. I'm not sure what the organizer paid, however, any dish served should be good. On a positive note, the room was nice and so was the staff, hence the two stars. My cousin married his High School sweetheart yesterday. This was the chosen venue for the reception and I must say it was an excellent choice. The place was clean and comfortable. The staff was polite and courteous. The ownership was so hands on! They treated everyone with respect and kindness. We enjoyed the buffet with food that was things I actually like eating and cooked well! I don't know how long the place was rented for but even long after I'm sure the staff was due to go home they were patiently waiting for the last stragglers to leave. read more
