I almost never go for Indian food, but wanted to check out the lunch buffet. The weekend lunch price was $23, which was more than expected. There's also a 4% charge. The restaurant opens at 11:00am, but the buffet starts at 11:30am. We got there right as they started the buffet, so everything was fresh. There was a good selection of food with vegetarian options as well. Naan was bought to the table. A few of the things I enjoyed were the fish pakora, chicken Manchurian and paneer. Coming here with friends we were ready for a feast and The Curry Leaves delivered it well. As I have stated in past reviews this remains my favorite spot for Indian cuisine. The place is always clean and well maintained with a variety of seating types. We had a nice comfortable corner booth. Service is always wonderful, helpful and friendly. The menu is quite comprehensive and broad. There's always enough choice for everyone. This time we got a variety of dishes to share, starting with the large and very delectable samosas. Adding to that there was Butter Chicken, a Cauliflower platter, Lamb Tiki Masala, Mixed Chicken Tandoori, Mysore Masala Dosa, Rice and two types of Naan. The portions are large and it could easily feed an army, or four hungry people! My goodness, the flavors and taste abound in every dish. Everything across the board of selections was equally excellent. Everyone agreed on that point. The Dosa was enormous and it is best to eat it right away as it can get chewier and more difficult to disect once it fully cools. My one disappointment is that they no longer have the Mixed VEG Tandoori available. It was my absolute favorite dish. There's enough to compensate. I had the large size Taj Mahal beer that was chilled to perfection and a great compliment for the meal. Water in a pitcher was plentifully provided during the meal too. As we had a mix of what each wanted for a level of spiciness we went middle of the road that was satisfactory to everyone. Besides there were a multitude of sauces which included a yogurt to cut the heat if needed. An extra bonus was live music/singer on a Friday night who was quite talented and made for a nice background. I love Indian cuisine. And my love was further solidified by the tasty meal I enjoyed tonight. My wife says "Don't order too much". Which I smiled and ignored. I ordered 6 items and a dessert. For all the savory dishes I asked for spice level 2. Though just a hint of chili to me, it was at the top of tolerance for my gringo wife. I imagine that spice level 5 would be fire mouth. Our server, Raj, was delightful. Friendly, happy and helpful. The portion sizes are generous. The vegetable biriyani was a giant bowl. I ate like a famished dog. Really great Indian buffet out here in Rocklin! There was so much variety of foods and proteins. Mini veg samosas, aloo, dal, paneer tikka masala, and biryani were all good options for vegetarians. There was also goat curry, fish, and many different chicken dishes. They had chow mein and Manchurian chicken for some Chinese representation. I especially liked the chai that you could pour yourself. The naan was okay, just a vehicle for everything else. I think the fried fish, red in color, and the fried potato were both the best dishes, followed closely by the butter chicken. I would pass on the dal, it was the weakest of the dishes. The food is good, but I feel like my daughter was taken advantage of. We ordered two butter chicken dishes and two orders of naan. I understand that it no longer comes with rice, which is fine. We were given complimentary Poppadoms with Indian mint sauce; served as a starter, something to nibble on before the main course. They are a thin, crisp, round-shaped lentil disc made of some type of rice flour. My first time, very nice. Our main dishes were Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala. I have been here before several times. And this time, I took my wife here evening around 0530 PM so that she can try some really good Indian food. We ordered chicken biryani, dahi pani puri and chicken tandoori. "Paapad" came as a complimentary. Interior of this place was a good setup for the customers to be comfortable. I had visited Curry Leaves at least 5 times since their opening. It's hard for me to write this review but I have noticed a clear, gradual decline in this place from each of my visit. I never felt like their and portion are great deal compared to other Indian restaurant in the greater Sacramento region. However, they were relatively reasonable until now. From my past visits, it is obvious that this place have consistently increased their menu price by 2 dollars every 6 months or so, where a curry dish went from 16-18 dollars to now 20+ dollars. Despite a relatively small portion, a side of rice was included for anyone who wanted to order an entree as a meal. In my latest visit, I found out that not only they had increased their prices once again but now even charges extra for a small bowl of rice for their curry. This means a tiny portion of curry that costs 22 dollars would only be edible with at least a 4 dollar surcharge for a small bowl of rice. A 30+ dollars total for one entree with tax and tips, this is just next level greedy. Typically I go to this place with a friend. I've noticed the total price for a party of 2 had gone from 50 bucks to now easily approaching, or exceed 100 dollars after tax and tip. No thank you, I will not be back. There are too many affordable, reasonably priced Indian restaurants in the region. read more

While I was waiting, a gentleman in a collared shirt noticed me, asked the host about my order, and personally went back to the kitchen to retrieve it. It's clear that customer service matters to him. As for the food--it was fantastic. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, Shrimp Tikka Masala, Chicken Tandoori, rice, and Garlic Naan. The Butter Chicken was so tender and flavorful that I'll likely choose it over the Tikka Masala next time. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor, and the Tandoori chicken was seasoned beautifully. But the highlight of this place isn't just the food--it's the kindness. My 13-year-old son once went in with a classmate and came home telling me how incredibly kind the staff were. He didn't know them by name, but mentioned both the female waitress and the same gentleman in the collared shirt. He ended his story by simply saying, "They were all just really nice." That absolutely melted me. When a business treats kids with genuine kindness, it speaks volumes. Just WOW. Upon going, the parking lot is huge so finding parking wasn't an issue. This place is a bit tucked away. My friend took me here on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy. There were tables filled but still enough tables open. Dining room was huge and had enough space to walk around. I chose the buffet option because it was only $20 per person. I'm usually a picky eater when it comes to Indian food, as some places just do not use enough spices and seasoning. Also, I am usually against the buffets because of Food quality. However, this place was AMAZING. I am telling you every curry dish I have tried here is packed with flavor. A bit oily, but what food isn't good if there isn't enough oil? Haha. The sauces were super seasoned to perfection. Not watery at all, just a good amount of sauce and protein. There was a goat curry, my favorite. It was fall off the bone and the meat was so tender. I don't understand how this restaurant has 4 1/2 stars. Yes the food is decent, but it seems like they don't care about quality just about getting the most money out of customers. What kind of Indian restaurant does not serve rice with entrée. $10 for kids french fries? Four dollars apiece for a Samosa that was refried and not even fresh. When you order food and you don't get a fresh naan you know something is not right. Putting sugar in your mint chutney should be considered blasphemy. I tried it before and you know I thought it was mid, but then I decided to give it a second chance and man when I chose mild butter chicken I didn't know it meant mild in flavor. It also didn't come with some rice and I thought it did so when I got it delivered, it was just the butter chicken I've been to other places that have a lot more flavor and what I really love about Indian food is the tamarind chutney, and this tamarind chutney literally taste like syrup you could put on pancakes. We ordered a Curry Leaves Special Boneless Chicken Biriyani, malai chicken tikka kabab, side of rice, chili cheese naan, butter naan and mango lassi. I am not stretching the truth by saying that I had to ask and remind them of what we ordered more than once, and always by flagging someone down. We had to wait a very long time between each of TWO entrées that we ordered, so long in fact that we were about to ask for the check and walk out. We received the first dish and were half-way through when we reminded them about the rice. Then we sat for a while and finally received the biriyani and both naan; the back kitchen guy came with my order and was quite rude. "Here's your order Mr." I was saying "ma'am" when he said "oh yeah." A while later I finally flagged someone down to ask for the lassi that I had ordered. I had ordered the biriyani mild, but it was so spicy I couldn't eat it. The malai chicken was good, but a couple parts were all gristle. I wanted to like this place but it was underwhelming and high priced for what it is. The buffet seemed to be lacklustre, the tandoori chicken looked old. Mostly what irritated me was paying $17 each for my two kids, 8 & 5. My 5 year old ate about a 1/4 cup of rice and a tablespoon of chicken. The weekday lunch buffet is back. I knew about the weekend lunch buffet for 24.00 but had a bad experience in the past. The current lunch price is 19.00 plus a 3% "compliance fee", not including tax. I haven't been back since they stopped offering their buffet, but now it's back. Unfortunately they gutted the menu and now offer half of what it used to be. Gone is the goat curry and everything is now chicken. The flavors are still good, just way less selection and a price increase. I usually frequent restaurants for its value and sometimes will break my own rules if the restaurant has really good food. This place no longer offers any of these standards for me. The waitress did ask me how was everything and I mentioned about the lack of variety, so she mentioned the weekend buffet has more food. I advise you to stay away from this place. I went recently and ended up paying over $200 for four people total. Our food cost added up to barely $130 but they charged us almost $80 extra and that was all for a tip. They never told us they were going to add the tip themselves and they never had anything up that informed customers of an automatic tip charge. If you go with 6+ people then they will charge you 18% just for tip. They even said they refuse to refund after we called them out. Delicious food and great service at Curry Leaves Indian Restaurant! My husband and I had a wonderful dining experience at Curry Leaves Indian Restaurant. We ordered the Tandoori Platter and Garlic Naan, and everything was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. The tandoori meats were perfectly cooked and well-seasoned, and the garlic naan was soft, warm, and a perfect match with the platter. The servings were very generous -- more than enough for the two of us to share. In fact, we couldn't finish everything, so we happily asked for a box to take the rest home. Our server, Annie, was amazing -- attentive, friendly, and very helpful. She recommended the Indian lemonade for me, and I'm so glad she did! It was my first time trying it, and I loved it.
