Chang Bros is literally a Mom and Pop run American Chinese restaurant. I met the friendly Taiwanese Mom Wendy (front end host and server) and Pop Bill (chef). I heard them speaking Taiwanese, so I asked them. They can also speak Mandarin Chinese, just like my mom! You can special order Taiwanese dishes, like 3 Cup Chicken, if you call a day or two in advance. On the regular menu is Taiwanese Style Rice Noodle. There are currently $10 Daily Specials for dine-in or take-out until May 31, 2025: - Monday: Subgum Wonton Soup - Tuesday: Chicken Fried Rice - Wednesday: Beef with Broccoli - Thursday: Chicken Chow Mein - Friday: Sweet & Sour Pork - Saturday: Curry Chicken - Sunday: Kung Pao Chicken I was going to try the Chicken Fried Rice, but I decided to do the Moo Goo Gai Pan lunch special instead. Moo Goo Gai Pan is an Americanized version of a Cantonese dish, Chicken with Mushrooms. Chang Bros prepares a stir fry of sliced chicken breast with a bounty of vegetables: mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, zucchini, snow peas, bamboo shoots, and red bell pepper. I enjoyed it. A comfort food. Mild flavor. Good size portion. I was in a food coma shortly thereafter. With the lunch special, you have your choice of Hot and Sour Soup or Egg Drop Soup. Although the Hot and Sour Soup doesn't contain meat in it, it has a meat based broth. The Egg Drop Soup had a few cubes of soft tofu. If you want flavor, go with the Hot and Sour. You also have your choice of Steamed Rice, Fried Rice, or Plain Chow Mein with lunch plates. The fried rice was plain, a soy sauce rice dotted with peas, carrots, and egg. Table includes salt and pepper shakers, and I was given a tray with sweet and sour sauce and hot mustard. I wonder if they offer hot chili sauce. The next day, I decided to order Beef with Broccoli, the Wednesday $10 special, to go. I think it's enough to feed 2 or 3 adults, so it is a good bargain. Broccoli was savory. Beef was tender, but lacked flavor. Just add some soy sauce, and you'll be fine. I was given 2 soy sauce packets with my To Go order. Chang Bros cooks to appeal to the demographic, so the food tends to be conservative in flavor. If you want spicy, try requesting for that. I think seasoning to taste is a great option if you are watching your salt intake or are sensitive to salt. Chang Bros is off Stanford Ranch Rd in the same plaza with Celestino's and Boba Lane. Dining room is clean, comfortable, spacious, and formal looking. read more

Staying at a nearby hotel for a few days and had this Door Dashed to me. I had a craving for shrimp in lobster sauce but this dish can be expensive. Luckily they had a lunch portion that was reasonably priced. I was worried that they might be cheap and only add 2-3 shrimp, but there was a good amount in there. We also ordered the sweet and sour pork, unfortunately this was kinda soggy by the time it was delivered, and they even had the sauce packaged separately. read more

We DoorDashed from the Chang Bros (in Rocklin) the other night. The food overall was good. Our choices included 2 Subgum Wonton Soup, Crispy Walnut Shrimp and a Fried Rice combination meal. While we waited a while to eat, the Soup was absolutely perfect once we heated it up a bit on the stove. This was my favorite. The Fried Rice was also very good, I recommend it. The Walnut Shrimp was too breaded for my liking. It was like they wanted to make the "small" shrimp look bigger than they were. I would never order again. Prices were reasonable. read more

Fried rice was just not very good. Mongolian beef had everything in it to be excellent except too much oil. It just missed being great. The moo goo gai pan was fresh and delicious. The egg rolls were fine. The cream filled won ton was a delight. I adored the hot and sour soup. Maybe best I've ever had. The egg flower soup was bitter. This place definitely has hits and misses. So I'm Chinese and my wife and brother in law who lives with me are Mexican. I can be harsh judging Chinese food because my family has owned a successful Chinese food restaurant and it's what I grew up on so I can be biased. That being said, we all agreed that although the food was decent enough here, it wasn't worth it compared to the competition in the area. I've done something to my brother in law and I've noticed that ever since I've brought him food from my parent's house a few years ago he's been addicted to Chinese food....getting it at least once a week. He's only been in the area for about 4 months and has visited over 12 different Chinese food places in the area! I didn't even know there were that many! Anyway, we ordered chow mein, fried rice, kung pao chicken, and a beef dish. At the price point, take out portions were smaller than the competition and prices slightly higher. The service was great, the lady that helped me at the take out counter was very nice, and friendly. Potstickers we're pretty good, they kind of fell apart which was a bummer, but tasted good. The chow mein and egg rolls, were plentiful and tasty. The only "bad" dish we got was the general Tso's chicken, it was about $16, and there was a good amount of chicken, but it was just very bland, considering there was a warning saying it's spicy, I expected some more kick and flavor. I was hesitant to try this place because outside of one family inside celebrating a birthday, there were no other diners. However, I took my parents here for a quick dinner before they drove back to LA the next day. FOOD: Mongolian Beef Dinner Combination Platter: Good! Aside from Mongolian Beef, the platter comes with a heaping serving of fried rice, an egg roll, a cheese wonton, and complimentary soup. The beef was tender, flavorful, and had a good spiciness. My mom had plenty of leftovers. x2 Subgum Wonton Soup: Good! Each bowl was large and included a flavorful broth (tasty and not overly salty) and plenty of wontons accompanied by shrimp, scallops, chicken, and assorted vegetables. The wontons were generously stuffed, which my dad and I appreciated. Bean Curd Hunan Style: Good! The tofu were fried perfectly and tossed in a flavorful, thick, and slightly spicy brown sauce with chopped bell peppers and black beans. This came with a side of white rice. The lady who took our order was very friendly and always smiling. She appeared to know almost every customer who walked in after us, too. While there weren't many people dining in by the time we left, Chang Bros received a lot of call-in/pick-up orders. We haven't eaten here in years so decided to stop in and have dinner. Wow, the Szechuan String Beans with steam rice was fantastic! Fresh string bean that snap with freshness when you bite into them, what a treat! The Sweet and Sour Pork was the best we've had in years. Every piece of pork was just that, pure pork, none of the unhealthy filler bread coating used by most restaurants. The portions of food were so huge that we ended up taking half of our dinner home with us. The Owners and wait staff were so welcoming. They made us feel like we eat there everyday! One of the Owner's stopped at our table to make sure we were satisfied with the food, our waitress stopped by when we were finished and spoke with us for awhile. Used to be great food at awesome prices. As of 2017 it somehow went downhill. As of early 2018 it did more so, late 2018 its just dry and seemingly just lazy cooking. Its just bad. We;ve frequented Chang Brothers in Rocklin for years. Sure, P.F. Chang and Frank Fat's offer remarkable, romantic, and stunning atmospheres along with great cuisine. Chang Brothers has no such fancy ambience, but their food is sumptuous and tantalizing. Service is efficient and polite. The place is clean. Portions are generous, and the menu broad and varied. I tried Chang Bros for the first time, basically because Prime Wok was closed (Sunday). . . I ordered to go. . . the lady that helped me was very nice, customer service seemed to be on point. My issue was the food. . . more specifically, the portions. I have never been to a Chinese restaurant that served so little portions that it was barely enough for 5 people. The food was also subpar. I was just a little surprised about the quantity of food given. . . the combo fried rice and chow mein. . . small to-go containers. For the same price-point ($115), I can go to Prime Wok and get 3x the amount of food. . .and I tipped generously as well. I can't say that I'll ever be back.
