Just opened!!! The Cupboard is the diner located in Cowan's Drugstore on the Square in Lebanon (replacing Max's Cupboard which closed last December). The small dining room has had a face lift with fresh floor, paint and table cloths, but maintains the small town charm of a locally owned business. One of the co-owners, Dan Cheech was cooking during our visit. The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch and offers daily specials. They bake fresh pies, scones and cinnamon rolls daily. You can get a burger, tenderloin or chicken sandwich but the show stopper was the BLT, which is generously covered in "B". I had the Crispy Chicken sandwich with fries. The chicken was breast meat in a very crispy batter served on a fresh brioche roll. The fries were crispy crinkle cuts and I was happy they were lightly salted. The daily special was a Sloppy Joe with fries for $8. The sandwich was served on a brioche roll with a generous portion of sloppy Joe and fries on the side. The Lemon Custard pie was homemade with a light crust and very sweet with a light cream topping. Service was great, Caitlyn checked on us frequently. Food and beverages came out quickly. The place filled up quickly with locals, so get there early. They do pick-up orders if you want. Parking can be tough, but you can usually find a spot on the square.

The Cubbard serves a very satisfying BLT. The menu description states six strips of bacon, but the lettuce and tomato were straining to be seen past the mound of bacon on this sandwich. What a perfectly proportioned amount of ingredients between to delicious slices of bread. The accompanying fries were crinkle cut, hot and plentiful. The service was great and quick. The dining area is cozy and comfortable in that you feel like one of the regular customers. Next time I need to try the "Daily Special", which seems to fly out of the kitchen.

I expected themed drinks but wow, did they go all out with the decorations and little surprises. They had games like a Horcrux Hunt going on, little wands you could use to turn on and off lights, a super fun photo opportunity area, and people in full costume to greet you! The outdoor movie area had some tables and hay bales. Many brought their own chairs. The screen was a bit small and I wish the parking lot lights had been turned off however, probably not possible and none of that really relates to the coffee shop lol. They pulled off a really lovely event that left me with some great memories and a chance to dive back into childhood nostalgia. Also, those macarons were SO good and my friend loved the themed hot chocolate she got. I know that they do other events from time to time. Hats off to the event planner! As an aside, the space here is absolutely lovely and I hope to come back again soon on my remote work day.

I was the only Black customer in the shop at the time, and the pattern of being repeatedly passed over while others were helped first did not feel random. When I asked about my order, I was told they were "busy," but that didn't match what I was seeing--people were consistently being served ahead of me. Being ignored for that long while others moved through quickly made me feel unwelcome and singled out. Whether intentional or not, the way this was handled came across as discriminatory and needs to be addressed. I hope management takes this seriously, looks into what happened, and ensures that all customers are treated fairly and respectfully.

I went through the drive-thru and ordered the single bacon cheeseburger meal with fries and a coke. I did have some modifications, which they made perfectly! The staff were friendly and quick. My burger and fries were hot--you can tell they made it fresh when I ordered. I love the new fry flavor, it's just a hint of beef. Who didn't love a shoestring fry? Especially, when it's crispy!

It also was an important fixture to me and my bestie in 8th grade as one of our regular hangouts. All to say - I wish it was still the same as it was in the early 2000's to 2010's! As the locations have dwindled, I regularly stop by Steak 'n Shake on my way to and from my hometown. This location is one of the few locations that are easy to get to and not too far out of the way for me. As the years have passed, the quality of food and operations have significantly declined. It's a bummer having a once fulfilling childhood favorite become a greasy, sometimes bland meal. The milkshakes aren't as good as they used to be. For a while, it was tough to get some seasoning (don't worry, I bought a container!). My thoughts do not reflect the current servers, who are hard workers that are effected by the choices made by corporate. I'd rather have them take my order versus ordering via a machine. Bring back the personality!

There was a lovely young woman with her daughter selling cookies and cakes in a jar. I was impressed by how well she knew and described her product. Her young daughter also introduced herself and it was obvious that she feels part of the business with her mom. I purchased two of the cakes in a jar. One was a special Mardi Gras with cinnamon bourbon and sprinkles, the other was Dark Chocolate with white cream frosting.  Both were absolutely delicious. At only $7 each they were well worth the price!  I will return to the next Farmers Market and this time try some of the beautiful unusual cookies. The woman and her daughter were delightful so please help support their business. You will enjoy meeting them and eating their "Tasty Morsel" desserts.
