Great café with local honey and prepped freezer meals! This place is a regular pick whenever we want to sit down for some coffee/tea and small breakfast/lunch. Their rotating soups and baked goods are always delicious and fresh! Today, we had the chicken noodle soup with half a chicken bacon ranch sandwich, and a build your own breakfast sandwich. Both were great! The staff are always nice, and the custom mural and decor were made by local artists! I've driven by The Beehive what seems like a zillion times over the past month or so as I've dealt with my father's hospice, subsequent death, and now dealing with his home in nearby Putnam County. Today, I spent some time clearing out my father's home and helping my nephew, who'd been staying with him prior to his death, settled in a new residential situation. As I was driving through Danville on the way home, I stopped at the town square and decided to have a late lunch in the area. To be honest, I headed first to Square Burger. However, as a wheelchair user I was dismayed to see a step into their establishment. No go. I wasn't in the mood for Mayberry Cafe despite my love for the place. I looked over and realized this was a great chance to check out The Beehive. The Beehive is just off the square and shares a building with Two Guys Pies. The US 36 entrance is not wheelchair friendly, however, the back entrance has a nice concrete ramp (I did find the sidewalk a bit narrow - I noticed as I entered here that had I desired to visit Two Guys Pies there was a bicycle on the sidewalk that would have easily blocked my access). This is an attractive building. The Beehive has been here a little over 10 years. I'm not sure I'll describe The Beehive accurately - it's sort of a coffeehouse meets breakfast/lunch joint where you can also get fresh, local honey and other frozen goods to take out. They do catering and offer deli sandwiches, beer/wine carryout, a build your own salad menu, local meat and produce, and the aforementioned frozen goods. They also have a small retail area where you can buy honey, t-shirts, and other items. A good amount of their sweets utilize honey instead of sugar. I parked on the square in one of their accessible spots (parking is free, up to 5 hours for accessible parking but only two hours for others). I wheeled around the building - someone was planting plants/flowers and was super friendly and stopped his work to make sure I could get through). They close at 4pm on Saturdays - I arrived about 3ish. I ordered one of their combos that included a 1/2 sandwich, chips, and a drink. They do have unsweetened iced tea, fountain drinks, and a variety of canned/bottled drinks (including Choc-ola!). They also have a ton of coffee/latte type options. I found the prices to be reasonable. This is especially true given these are healthier options (though certainly not everything here qualifies as "healthy."). The employees were friendly. They were quiet, however, service was quite good. I loved the atmosphere. I had zero issues finding a wheelchair friendly table. I could independently reach everything I needed, though I'm sure they'd have assisted if needed. This wasn't a mind-blowing experience. It was simply a really good lunch in a pleasing atmosphere at a fair price. After an emotional experience like clearing out my family home (which isn't yet done), this was a great way to relax and calm the emotions. I enjoyed the sandwich, which is toasted, and they had Miss Vickie's potato chips. I'm not sure why it took me so long to stop here, however, I'd easily return for the simple yet wonderful menu, great drinks, warm atmosphere, and friendly employees. read more

I stopped in for the first time and tried their Honey Nut Latte today. The flavor was really nice, but a little milkier and sweeter than what I usually go for. Totally a "your mileage may vary" situation--if you like sweeter drinks, you'll probably love it. The space itself is cozy in the best way, with plenty of chairs and tables that make it easy to settle in and get some work done. The staff were genuinely kind and warm, which makes a big difference on a first visit. Overall, a really inviting spot. The Beehive is one of my favorite locations! The owner is incredibly kind and will greet you by name when coming in. They do not have an extensive menu but what they serve is delicious! They have breakfast and lunch options available. They do have tons of baked goods and everything is so amazing. I'm a big fan of their sausage hand pies, which is like a biscuit and gravy to-go. They do have a freezer section with meals to go. I wish they would bring back their enchiladas but the chicken Alfredo is also great. Their strawberry matcha is amazing! The first time I got the Nutella latte hot and now I tried it cold yesterday and I have to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure which version I love more. I especially liked the caramel latte (I believe that's the name, there isn't a full espresso menu on their website). This is one of my favorite local small businesses!! The fudgey brownies are the best I've ever had and I will randomly drive 1 hour round trip for them with no regrets, but then I discovered that they have so many custom items to choose from that taste homemade and freshly made. I have been here many times and recommended it to anyone in the Hendricks area. It's a cute cafe perfect for lunch or to just have a warm cuppa and sweet treat. They do have a few refrigerators for some take-bake or essentials home, as well as an inventory of local honey and a few gift items. We tried the take-bake chicken pot pie last year and the family enjoyed it. Still have to try some of the other items. Today I was taking a study break for lunch and my go-to choice is the Tuscan chicken sandwich, add avocado spread, and soup of the day, with a hot tea. not gonna lie. i'm surprised they don't know me by first name and car, actually they might. i'm pretty serious about the places i bookmark on here and my journey to trying new things. the difference is there's always a reason or item that has me trying something new. anyway i don't remember how this place came across my radar. i probably was searching sweets during my diet - insert crying face emoji- well i saw those hand sized homemade oatmeal cream pies. i waltzed in masked up one warm afternoon - everyone else was not but this is hendricks county and they are different... i looked at the display and the menu .. cool they serve salads and soups. i asked the associate if they had oatmeal cream pies and she said no, i'm like oh well when will you? she said hm idk if she's making any tomorrow. let me ask and she asked! and the owner? came over stated she did NOT have them on her list but would add them and that they'd be out in the morning. i'm like bet see ya then. the next morning the display case was shining gold and individually wrapped gifts from god were sitting there waiting on me. i bought 2 - big mistake because 2 were not enough- and left. THEY WERE SOFT BUT STILL CHEWY. the oatmeal cookie had this cinnamon flavor. the frosting was perfect. i have been obsessed ever since. the worst part is they are not made on a specific day or even often imo. i did return for more and the owner and original associate were like omg we don't have any left! we hoped you came in. i'm like i got them i just didn't want to interrupt it was busy when i came in. is that not good customer service? so no don't go and try and take my oatmeal cream pies but def go and support this local spot. she offers catering for some of the food she serves and you can request batches of the sweet treats if you order in advance read more

I absolutely love The Beehive and how homemade and fresh everything is. I have not been here since quarantine which was over a year ago. I brought my other half here who was really hungry. He looked at the menu and was like this is not going to fill me up. I said yes it will trust me. I told him I was buying lunch so he will not able to complain. He ordered the veggie sandwich and added chicken, and a bowl of their soup of the day, which was tomato cream soup. The soup was delicious and not acidity at all. Needless to say he was not hungry afterwards. I ordered my usual chicken artichoke, and cheese sandwich. With an aoiloi spread, and a salad with their homemade honey lemon dressing. Their desserts are all wrapped individually. I got a piece of carrot cake to go. The cake was good, not the best I have had. It also had zucchini in the cake. I think the frosting needed to be different, like the usual cream cheese frosting. I did buy their rolls that they make their sandwiches on, and a really nice sour dough loaf. A jar of marinara sauce, I bought this sauce before but at the farmers market. They still have the loose tea leaves in the pouch for sale, and some jelly but have really downsized the variety of jellies to buy. They do have a freezer section with homemade pot pies, pizza, lasagna, Alfredo, and other delicious looking meals to take and bake at home. I will have to try one of those next time. The beehive is soooo adorable. This is a cafe perfect for those who want to indulge in local goodies. The beehive sells local goods from meats to soaps. This is a great place to get some work done. I was able to get a good amount of work done. When It got closer to lunch time it got pretty loud. A lot of people visited from the courthouse and government building in Danville. I order and skinny vanilla latte and I have to say it was the best homemade sugar free vanilla I've ever had. It tasted so natural and it didn't even seem like it sugar free. I order a salad to-go with homemade ranch. It was not all that. I paid $7.38 for a salad that was a side salad. It was steep for the amount of salad that I got. I've been here a long time ago. It was a nice place then and has added more now. It's located close the to Hendricks County Courthouse close to the town square. It's very warm and welcoming. They use local honey in some of their recipes. They make all their salad dressings from scratch. Cilantro lime vinaigrette, ranch, honey lemon, red wine vinaigrette, and honey mustard. The "Hive Salad" is what I ordered and it comes with the honey lemon dressing. I'm taking it to work with me tomorrow and looking forward to seeing how it tastes. The salad came in a nice container with a lid instead of the standard styrofoam container. They offer soups, sandwiches, and serve breakfast all day! I chose the pecan pie bar also. It was hard to choose because the no bake cookies, and the peanut butter cookies, which were so fluffy looked tempting! They have a little shop if you want to buy local honey or other Indiana made products. The girl behind the counter was helpful and very friendly. Next time I will try the peanut butter cookie.
