What an adorable place. And the pies and cookies are delicious, rich and decadent. Totally on board with those. The bread wasn't extra special to me, so that one is a meh for me. I did have the BLT and opted for fruit as my side. The sandwich was great but the fruit stole the show. Usually you get a couple of grapes and some cut up cantalope. Here I got fresh pineapple, strawberry, melon, blueberries and grapes. Very fresh and of great quality. I also purchased a fancy cookie (no pictures as I snarfed it down so quickly) and a sweetheart Silk pie. So rich, I could only eat small pieces of it at a time. My take on this experience: YUMMMM read more

Stopped in on a Friday around noon and there was about a 10-minute wait, which honestly wasn't bad considering how busy they were. We split a bowl of soup and they kindly served it in separate bowls for us, which I appreciated. The soup of the day was corn chowder and wow, I was surprised how good it was, I do love soups. I'd never tried corn chowder before, but it was creamy, flavorful, and comforting. I ordered the half salad/half sandwich combo. The smoked salmon niçoise salad had a blend of interesting flavors and the dressing paired perfectly with it. For the sandwich, I chose the BLTEA, and unfortunately this was the disappointing part of the meal. The avocado on it was clearly overripe/bad, so dark, mushy, and it gave the sandwich an unpleasant taste. I removed as much as I could, but it still affected the flavor. It was a bummer because this spot usually tastes very fresh. I've had it before and the avocado was fresh, along with the orchard salad which I loved. I would say the orchard salad is my fave. They make their dressings homemade and the dressing for the orchard salad was delicious. The service was still very friendly, and since they were slammed busy, I didn't feel like making a fuss about it. Everything else we had was enjoyable. The inside is small and quaint since it's a house turned restaurant, so it has a cozy but lively ambiance when crowded. One of the best perks here is definitely the made from scratch desserts. I love checking out the dessert case because the staff will happily explain each option and answer questions. There's something oddly satisfying about watching them slice the desserts too. I took a lemon cheesecake to go and absolutely loved it. I've also tried the blackberry wine cake which is a staple and delicious. A seasonal dessert that was really good was the pumpkin pie. You really can't go wrong with home made desserts here. read more

Cute breakfast/lunch place in a charming former residential property. If I lived nearby, I'd be here for breakfast ALL the time. The cakes, pies and baked goods all look absolutely dreamy. The cinnamon roll french toast seems to be one of the most popular menu items, but I opted for a straight-up cinnamon roll and was not disappointed. Delicious. The owner is lovely as well. read more

I was looking for a local, non-chain breakfast spot, and this place absolutely hit the spot! As soon as I was escorted to my table, I was immediately distracted by the bakery case filled with fresh-baked desserts. They had everything from cookies and pies to cakes, and I especially loved that they offered so many single-serving dessert options. I ordered the two-egg breakfast and asked for my eggs to be scrambled with cheese. My plate arrived with delicious honey oat toast and what were, without a doubt, the best breakfast potatoes I've ever had. The texture was perfect! I had forgotten to ask for them crispy, but there was no need--they were lightly crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and seasoned just right. The eggs were also cooked perfectly. I really appreciate when the cheese is folded throughout the eggs instead of just being sprinkled on top as an afterthought. It's a small detail that makes a big difference. I'm going to be honest--the table next to me ordered the biscuits and gravy, and I could see the huge chunks of sausage from my seat! It looked so good that I had to order an additional side of biscuits and gravy to go, along with a sausage patty. I can't wait to dig into it later. I'll definitely be back. My only regret is that I didn't bring anyone with me! The portions are generous, and this is the kind of place where it's fun to share a few dishes so everyone can sample something different. If you're looking for a locally owned breakfast spot with great food, generous portions, and an incredible bakery, Bread and Breakfast Cafe & Bakery is absolutely worth a visit. read more

It took me a while to get to Danville, Indiana's Bread Basket Cafe & Bakery, a popular establishment since it opened in 2005 not far from Danville town square. Bread Basket is, as you might guess, both a cafe and bakery. It is established in what appears to have been a house. There are a couple accessible parking spots (though they are frequently hard to get) and there's a ramp for entrance in the back of the restaurant. It's not what I'd call perfectly accessible, however, there's no denying the effort has been made. Bread Basket is locally and family owned. They buy local produce, eggs, coffee, and tea as much as possible and note that they compost and reduce waste by more than half by recycling. It started with the simple words: "Lord, what do you want me to do with my time?" Through the years since that prayer was uttered, the little cafe that began as the unexpected answer to that question has grown into a family business with three generations and dozens of talented staff. The menu for the cafe is breakfast/brunch. It's somewhat modest in size, however, it has the necessities like biscuits & gravy, french toast, breakfast sandwiches, omelettes, waffles, etc. The lunch menu leans toward lighter fare. The bakery focuses on breads, rolls, cakes, and pies. They do have a Gluten-Free Dairy-Free Chocolate Cake. I'll admit I leaned somewhat toward a 4-star here (I find the parking especially a bit frustrating), but I like the experience, the service is top-notch, the food is good, and I love the devotion they have to local. So, I'm skewing upward and going with the 5-star. I'm also very appreciative of the well-done ramp (which I completely forgot to photograph). Overall, I'm definitely quite pleased here and there's no doubt I'll be back. The Bread Basket has the perfect home in Danville and it sure seems like Danville returns that love. read more

This review is long overdue! We've been going to the Bread Basket for well over a year now. We drive down from Carmel, it's that good!! The food, service and atmosphere are all incredible. Our fave dishes are the cinnamon roll French toast and smoked salmon omelette. We get them and split them so we both get sweet and savory breakfasts! The CRFT is always cooked perfectly, never soggy and doesn't need any syrup. The smoked salmon omelette over flows with smoked salmon and creamy dill sauce, it's to die for. Stop in for breakfast or lunch, you won't be disappointed! read more

Bread Basket Cafe & Bakery is a popular upscale cafe in the heart of Danville. The cafe is in an old house that has been remodeled to serve guests. The place is immaculate with an artsy vibe. We were greeted immediately, but hypnotized by the large case of amazing fresh homemade pies near the front. We were seated at a cozy table with pillows on our benches. Charity, our server, was friendly and attentive. The menu offers breakfast until 11 a.m., then lunch. I had a bowl of chicken soup which comes with a slice of their homemade bread toasted. The soup was thick and creamy and the noodles tasted freshly made. The soup and toast were delicious and filling. My husband had the ham and swiss sandwich, which also come their homemade bread. There was an apricot jam on the ham which added dimension to the sandwich and was delicious. The sandwich was served with kettle chips. We left no room for the pie....next time. You can buy cakes, pies and breads to go home. Prices are on the high side, but the food is definitely high quality. There is a dedicated parking lot next to the building. An accessible entrance and parking are in the rear. read more

Great service, super nice place and awesome food! Salads r killer would definitely recommend to anyone in the area or passing though!

Great lil cafe and bakery. My husband and I were on a lil foodie adventure stopped in just to grab something from the bakery. Cute inside, my husband said "This is a place for ladies." lol The loaf of bread traveled around Indiana with us, came home, and never got eaten. It's not the breads fault. We just got busy. read more

What a gem! We have a lunch meeting here and despite the rush there were lots of books for us to have a private chat. The servers were friendly and gracious and the menu was just large enough to offer multiple options. They have parking in back as well as a ramp, and side yard parking as well. It is in an old house so the inside is quaint and fun. I loved the cheerful decor. Our group have varied health challenges but they had meats, sandwiches and salads so everyone could find something. The prices were average if a bit high, but the portions were ample. I loved my salmon omelette and the side of fruit. Delicious! I would recommend this spot when in Danville! read more

The Bread basket cafe is a quaint little cafe with a very nice comforting atmosphere and decor that is super warm and cozy. As soon as you walk in the sitting area is very welcoming. Once you notice the enticing desserts on display your mouth starts watering and your mind starts contemplating the future decisions you are about to make. The menu is simple and the selections are enough to please even the pickiest of eaters. I kept it simple and chose the biscuits and gravy and coffee but I got a cinnamon roll to go. Turns out for my first but not last visit my choice was spot on. From the friendly hostess to the friendly server my experience was warm and kind. I suggest if your looking for something unique and delicious, that give them a try. read more

Wow was able to revisit the bread basket for lunch with my wife. They had a daily special of the choice of tuna salad in a tomato with a side salad. First very quaint location and luckily I was there at 11 for lunch as the dining area isn't huge. Its and old house converted into a cafe. The service was great and we even had an overview of all the desserts of which there are a lot of great choices. The tuna salad and tomato was great and a good choice on the hottest day of the year. I ordered sour cream lemon pie to go for later. Also picked up some cinnamon rolls and two loafs of bread on my way out. Excellent place now I just need to return for breakfast to try on my next visit. read more

For years my partner and I have driven pass this place and we always saw a little sign in front of what looked like a small craftsman-ish style house. We finally decided to explore it because they have rave reviews. The entrance is in the back of the house with ample parking. You get inside and there's a small sitting area where most folks waiting to be seated stay. Beyond this space, you walk pass the kitchen area and to the main dining space. They have a couple of display case of different pies, cookies, etc. They have a few tables and they were packed on Saturday morning which explains the long-ish wait for a table and food. The wait was definitely worth it though! My partner ordered half of their chili and half of their Greek salad and I ordered half chicken salad croissant and half summer salad plate with tuna salad - we ate everything!! So delicious and this spot will make it to the rotation of spots the we will visit again and again. We can't wait to try out all the other items on their menu. Do yourself a favor and try them out! I think you will be pleasantly surprised like we were!! read more

So nice, we ate there twice...in three days. The Bread Basket Cafe in Danville is the quintessential small town eatery. Located in a house, this space is perfect for locals to sip coffee, drool over the cake and pie display, and soak in all the freshly baked bread smells. The hubs and I went on a lunch date last week and got the choose 2 special and came back this morning for breakfast with our girls. Both meals were something to write home about, but the real winner is the stunner of a peanut butter pie. Lunch: Dilly turkey sandwich + smoked salmon Niçoise salad & dilly turkey sandwich + tomato artichoke lentil soup. Peanut butter pie. Breakfast: Breakfast combo (2 eggs, potatoes, and toast), kids meal (fresh fruit and chia pudding), & Belgium waffle (added bananas, peanut butter, and honey). read more

I have heard about Bread Basket for years and have always wanted to come in. I was finally able to one Wednesday morning when I knew I'd be in the area and that my baby would be sleeping. Of course, my baby was not sleeping so what I had hoped would be a coffee and quiet morning with myself turned into a sweet little time with him. Multiple employees came by to talk to my son and they were sure to let me know what they had to offer him. I ended up getting a coffee and a slice of the buttermilk pie which is now my absolute favorite pie I've ever had. The coffee was great too. My whole experience was really nice. I always appreciate when staff acknowledges my kids and treats them like people. And of course you can't beat their pie. read more

If you are looking for a brunch or lunch spot with character then you need to visit here! Very cozy spot to meet up with a friend to chat. Parking spots fill quickly, but after one time driving through the nearby library parking lot, which does tow if you aren't a library patron, then I was able to find a spot in the small lot that is dedicated to The Bread Basket customers. The entrance is through the back door. As you come in there are lots of baked goods in cases available for purchase. They even have a few gluten free options, although I wish there were more. I had met a friend there to eat and catch up. We were placed in the back room where only one other group of women were seated, yet sometimes I did have a little difficulty hearing my friend. I have been in the same room on other occasions however and things were quiet then, so I think it depends on the others seated near you. I try to stay away from bread products, so I ordered the Chia Pudding with Berries and Seeds. I was afraid it would leave me hungry so I also inquired and was happy to learn I could order a small fruit plate which wasn't on the menu.(Even though the fruit plate was the small, it was piled high with lots of fresh fruit) The Chia Pudding came in a beautiful crystal dish! I also ordered The Market Spice Tea, which is made by Our SpecialTea and is available to purchase by the bag up front by the register. I chose to have my tea served hot and it was served in the cutest cast iron tea pot which they left on the table for me. I was able to pour two full cups plus a half cup in a to go cup they gave me. My friend ordered the half order biscuits and gravy and loved it! On the way out I visited the restroom which is made for one person and was pleased to note that it's very clean with a spot to place your coat and bags. read more

My sister and I took our mother to lunch at the Bread Basket Cafe & Bakery for her 78th birthday. We arrived around noon on a Friday and expected a bit of a wait since this is a popular lunch spot in Danville. We were greeted upon entering the back door of the restaurant and told it would be a 15-20 minute wait. We were sat about 15 minutes later and let to a table through the restaurant in the back. There is a fireplace and a lovely ambiance no matter where you are seated. We were greeted warmly by our server, Hallie. She let us know the soup of the day and went to get our drinks. We ordered, and our food came out about 10-15 minutes later. We were all very pleased with our selections and enjoyed our visit to celebrate our mother's birthday. I loved my B.L.T.E.A. with the kettle chips. My mother also got a piece of their coconut cream pie, which is absolutely delicious. I absolutely recommend dining at the Bread Basket if you are in the Danville area. read more

Post Covid and this place did not miss a beat. The table cloths were replaced with hand painted tables for easier cleaning and are a little more spaced. It's the same great staff and same delicious food. Our favorites here include the farm fresh eggs, fresh fruit variety, homemade toasts, and during the summer- the local Arcane Cold Brew Coffee. Today's special toast which was included with 2 eggs, was the apple cinnamon toast. It was similar to the cinnamon toast mom baked in the oven when we were kids but fluffy and rich like your first Cinnabon, then add hints of real baked apples and that taste of a hot Krispy Kreme donut right off the production line. read more

This house converted to a bakery in Danville is so precious. The restaurant is fairly quite and intimate. You are able to speak to the person across from you without any trouble. The food at the bread basket is so tasty. I typically get the summery grilled cheese but I opted for an omelet this time. The eggs were fully and the ingredients tasted fresh. My omelet came with their homemade toast and I decided to get blueberry lemon bread. To be honest it was just sweet enough but it originally came out burnt so I requested a new piece. The kind ladies that work here politely obliged. That's another thing, the ladies that work here are the nicest and most friendly people around. I don't think I've ever seen one of them even frown. They offer sooo many sweets when you are finished with your meal it's overwhelming. They make all their own pies, cakes, tarts, cookies, and breads. The desserts are well made and always fresh. We've heard wonderful things from family about Bread Basket and they are frequent visitors. So we decided to visit Bread Basket and do some shopping while in Danville. As we approached we found a parking lot next door to the Cafe. A sign on the front porch instructed patrons to enter through the back entrance. The back entrance has a nice ramp for those with mobility issues. The house turned restaurant has small rooms and the tables are fairly close together. As you enter through the back you need to walk to the front to put your name on a wait list or be seated. We waited a little over a half-hour for a table which was in the smaller dining room next to the restroom. As we were seated we received a breakfast and lunch menu that is simple but covers the breakfast staples (omelettes, waffles, french toast, oatmeal, biscuits & gravy) and lunch with several salads and sandwiches (BBQ Pork, Turkey Club, Chicken Crossiant, Grilled Portabella) plus more. My husband had the biscuits and gravy which was good and I had the Chicken Crossiant and we both had a cup of Chicken and Rice Soup. My chicken salad was just okay and the soup was tasty. We didn't have time for dessert but from the items inside the dessert case I highly recommend you have desserts. I wanted to take something home but we weren't going start home and the icing would have melted. It is a cute restaurant serving a nice selection of salads, soups, sandwiches, breakfast and gorgeous desserts. Nice spot to meet the girlfriends or take Mom or Grandma to lunch. Great service and food. Homemade bread and pies and cakes for sale. Very busy during late morning. Cute interior and small outdoor seating area. Only negative was food was barely warm for all three of us. It was busy but not overly so when we got there. Entrance is in the back and you walk right past open kitchen area where food is lates and sitting on a table. Not the greatest design or welcoming of customers. Dessert options were not promoted or relayed to us post breakfast which I found odd since there clearly was a large assortment and appeared to be a big part of the business. Our inquiries weee self driven. Biscuits and gravy was very good. Bacon cooked to perfection. Cinnamon French toast has too much icing making it too sweet as many others have commented. Side of fruit was fresh and presented very well. Would definitely recommend. read more
