I came here this past weekend with the family to relax and enjoy some good food. I like how this place has a car wash and a laundry mat right next door to the eatery. It does have an indoor and outdoor seating area and even a playground for the kids to go to while you wait. Really like the art around the walls outside and there are even a few bars there you can order some beers. You would order your food at the front, take your number and sit somewhere for them to bring it out to you. The people that work there were chill and nice. Very patient while we were figuring out the menu and got us everything we needed. Even when my family spilled their soda the lady that served us was nice and got it cleaned up for us very quick. Good service overall. You do have to be patient as it does take a bit to get your food but it was worth the wait. I had an egg-ceptional burger and was delicious. Very good size burger for me. We also had the supreme nachos that looked very pretty and also had this cute heart shaped chip on top. I also really like how they offer vegan/glutten free option so people can eat more than just a salad if they want. My family really enjoyed the food very much and want to come back in the future. Definitely worth trying if you haven't yet. Be aware though it can be pricy but worth it.

A true champion family gem or just another place that didn't quite win the race? Here's a closer look. Parking We visited The Cove for the first time after hearing a lot about it, and admittedly, our first impression was a bit uncertain. The location and shared space with a rundown car wash and laundromat gave off a slightly sketchy, almost "Knockturn Alley" vibe. That said, once we found the dirt parking lot in the back (which isn't immediately obvious), there was actually plenty of space, much more accommodating than the front. Seating and Playground The outdoor dining area is large and offers plenty of self-seating options. It has a relaxed, country style atmosphere that's great for enjoying a meal outside. Just keep an eye on your food, as birds are definitely part of the experience. The playground was in good condition, and the kids were clearly having a great time, which is a big plus for families. Ordering The indoor ordering area is...unique. It somehow felt both clean and not at the same time, with a noticeable odor upon entering. The menu offers a solid variety of options, which is a positive. However, the drink station looked dated, and the ice machine had visible mildew, which was off-putting. I skipped the ice for that reason, though the soda itself tasted fine. The Food Overall, the food was just okay, nothing particularly memorable or worth going out of your way for. The roasted salsa stood out as the highlight, with great flavor and spice, but the portion felt small for the price. It came in a tiny ramekin alongside a large serving of chips, so it ran out quickly. The Good-a burger was well-cooked and enjoyable, but not something I'd crave again. The shrimp and fish tacos were comparable to the burger, with the fish taco being the better of the two. The shrimp taco had a strong earthy flavor, almost like eating a garden, which may appeal to some but wasn't a favorite. The fish taco was more balanced. Surprisingly, the fries were the standout side, outperforming both the tacos and the burger. Final Thoughts In the end, the kids had a great time, which is really what a place like this is about. The food is decent, but not a major draw on its own. If you're okay with the salsa portion for the price, it's worth trying. While we likely won't return, mainly due to the distance and lack of standout dishes, it's still a solid option if you're nearby and looking for a family friendly spot where kids can play and everyone can grab a casual meal. Not quite a champion, but definitely not out of the race either.

The Cove, what can I say other than a really inviting family atmosphere and kid friendly, amazing local beer draft selection and decent food options. I was not wowed by the food, the cheeseburger was good along with the fries, a bit soggy, and the shrimp tacos are good nice grilled flavor lacking of a side of lime otherwise pretty good after drinking a few beers. The staff is friendly and very fast at taking your order and cashing out. All in all, I think I found my beer spot in San Antonio, where a father can relax with a beer in hand all while watching his toddler play in their playground.

Let's take a minute to just talk about these sweet potato fries. They were so well seasoned and everything you could want in fries. The burger was also amazing, but the fries stole the show. We sat outside, and it was so nice. There is plenty of parking. Overall, a great experience, and I can't wait to go back.

Not an expansive menu and more catered to adults but the food is very good. The super nachos are big enough to share and delicious. The blue bison is a really good burger option as well. There is an outdoor bar and large seating area so that the kids can run around outside while the adults relax in the shade. The service is limited but they are always friendly and helpful.

How did I sleep on this spot for so long?! The Cove is legendary burgers, nachos, fish tacos, and even vegan bites. I went big with the Texas Burger (cheddar, refried beans, grilled onions, tortilla chips, avocado, spring mix + Cove salsa on a wheat bun). Flavor explosion. The tacos? Just as fire. And the prices? Super reasonable. Inside with the chill AC. Outside = patio, cold beers, playground for the kiddos, and if you're lucky... a live band to level up your Sunday Funday. Toro Flores, a local favorite tore it up with his band! Safe to say, I'll be making up for all the years I skipped this gem. Lesson learned. I promise I'll come more often. Service, Price, the Food, The Vibe! It was all there!

Great place to hang out and chill. Good play area for kids. Food selections are ok. Craft beer on tap with a good selection. They do not give samples, so that was a bummer. Ended up on getting 1 beer each because of this.

Great location on a beautiful day and very, very kid and dog friendly. Hungry and with a 4 year old in tow, we needed food but a place where a kid can be a kid. The Cove is the place FOR SURE! The outdoor space has lots of tables with a great jungle gym in the center. Lots of kids running around having fun. I gave the place 3 stars because it was so nice to sit outside in a comfortable clean area and watch the 4 year old burn off his endless energy. The food...meh. We ordered a burger and nachos. The meat on the nachos tasted old and was so dry it was crispy. Really off putting and gross. The burger needed ketchup to give it flavor. I would go again and enjoy a few beers (no food) because I love a great outdoorspace and it looked like a band was getting set up.

The Cove is one of those spots that's trendy, with tons of craft beer options, and plenty of good food to pick from. My go to every time, the shrimp tacos and the super nachos. Easy place to hang out, grab a drink, and enjoy good food without overthinking it.

The vibe is nice in here -- they have both indoor and outdoor seating so I can imagine in the warmer weather that it's a good evening spot! We both ordered the "real cheeseburger" and added bacon to it -- bacon was perfectly cooked as was the burger! We ordered a side of sweet potato fries and my only suggestion would be to cook them less. They were veeery crunchy and tasted more like a chip because they were thin. Other than that, we enjoyed it and will definitely be back to check them out when the weather is warmer! I've seen their instagram highlight markets and other community events so be sure to check out this local spot :)

My sister picked out this place since it has gluten free options. It was our first time here - I ordered the Gouda burger and some sweet potato fries. It was a good size burger and it was yummy! Enjoyed the fries too! They had different sodas that I've never heard of before.. tried them all and they were good! Service was pretty fast and friendly cashier. The place is pretty big - they have an indoor and outdoor seating. And theres a carwash right next to it. Great experience at this spot!

Hot day. Ceiling fan is good.
    Eric F.

The burgers were quite good, and above average fries. If I were to pick a stand out attribute from my experience there it would be about the excellence in server attitudes and accommodations. Ambiance was quite casual and full of positive decorative designs.

Cute kids picnic tables sitting beside adult height picnic tables.

We're no onion, no garlic vegetarians. And one kid is allergic to wheat, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, avocado, and kiwi. Is there anything anyone of us could have?

Do they still have a playground?

    Yes, the playground reopened

Will there be live music the evening June 20?

Yelp just sent the email for this question today. 1, it is now the 24th. 2, the answer was yes, it was Miss Nessie and Earfood gospel Brunch.

Is the ordering still taking place inside the small building?

No. You'll be seated, scan code for virtual menu on your phone, and you will order at your table with a waitress.

Is the play area open for the kiddos?

They took out the playground right now bc of Covid to give more space for tables but usually yes

Do they have tv to watch a game?

Hi Monica. Thank you for your question. We do not have TV's. Hope you will come by to see us for some great food before or after the game!

GAME CHANGER! When…read moreI visit San Antonio Plantaqueria is an absolute must. I'm taken aback every time I walk into to this wonderfully positioned taqueria in downtown steps from the River Walk. The smells, the feels, the sounds- it'll set your senses on fire. It's ambience is nothing short of walking the streets of Mexico and stumbling across the best local food find there is- it's your lucky day. It doesn't end there, because I have yet to discuss the flavors that this place dishes out. If you can imagine that other taquerias in town as as good as mamma's cooking, Plantaqueria is grandma's cooking saying, " I taught them everything they know." The counter service, decor and neon lights transport you to a pueblo that you probably have no business being in but were fortunate enough to get lost in. I feel that the people working to advance this visionary concept are in love with what they do because you get that experience with every bite of fresh, homemade goodness, weather you dine in or take/order out. Dude, fresh corn and flour tortillas, C'mon, man!! And speaking of vision, the owner, Sofia, who looks like she would get IDd at a bar has created something truly unique and incredibly delicious. Plantaqueria has revolutionized modern, classical Mexican street cuisine. It's open 7am-7pm so you can literally have this all day and you might wish you did. Y'all need to get you some, and don't thank me, thank the purveyors of this Alamo City gem. P.s. I've brought my mom in to eat this stuff and she totally agrees!

We were surprised by how much we enjoyed it. Their two self-serve complementary salsas were also fun and creamy. Concha- Delicious and we liked the top of it. Maybe one of our favorite conchas. Elote hot cake - Came out really hot and was delicious. These are only available on weekends. I was tempted to get more but we had lots more food targets on the schedule. Torta with Asada was pretty good too. But the other items excited me more I think. The person at the front also gave us some samples of other taco fillings to try: the fillings of the La Ranchera: Potatoes and pico de gallo in salsa ranchera and also grilled nopales. My husband who is usually not as crazy as me about nopales liked them here. They have mole on the weekends but it's not housemade from scratch. They use premade mole and add some more things to it so we skipped that one. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! I would not recommend the brunch to anyone unless they are strictly going for the view. The view and vibe are stunning. The daytime vibe is much different than the nighttime so I highlyyyy recommend going for dinner and drinks. Make a reservation because it gets crowded. The coffee bar that's there early in the morning , which is probably more for the hotel guests because it's not open for long, was kind of a let down! I had the kindest barista that was easy to talk to. However half of their menu wasn't available because there was no matcha and apparently there hadn't been in weeks which is so unfortunate. They have tons of potential and have the right staff, so hopefully they fix that soon!

Bar Loretta was such a fantastic find. We were staying at the Marriott Rivercenter on the River…read moreWalk and wanted to get away from the super touristy River Walk scene. Earlier in the day I took a walk through the King William neighborhood and stumbled on this beautiful old house with an inviting vibe. We were so glad we came back for dinner. We were a group of five with a reservation and from start to finish the experience was excellent. Our server, Raymond, was personable, friendly, and genuinely great at his job. He gave thoughtful recommendations and made the evening feel relaxed and welcoming. We started by sharing several dishes, all of which were spot on: Pears and Greens salad with lardons, frisée, arugula, radicchio, endive, Danish blue, and bacon vin - $16. Fresh, balanced, and perfect for sharing. Crispy Brussels Sprouts with maple, herbs, pecans, and cotija - $10. Crispy, flavorful, and addictive. Mac and Cheese - $12. Rich, comforting, and well executed. For mains, Raymond steered us in all the right directions: Mustard Glazed Faroe Island Salmon with warm fingerling potatoes, parsnips, mushrooms, frisée, and herb oil - $30. Beautifully cooked and flavorful. Tomatillo Shrimp with grilled Gulf shrimp, white cheddar grit cake, and tomatillo butter - $28. Bold and delicious. Loretta Burger with crispy prosciutto, manchego, arugula, tomato, grilled red onion, and smash sauce on a brioche bun. Choice of fries or tots - $18 (some had tots, and one had fries - tasty). Absolutely nailed it. Queso Fundido Burger with fried chorizo-queso blanco, charred poblano, and cactus salsa verde. Choice of fries or tots - $20. Indulgent in the best way. My dining companions enjoyed a variety of wonderfully prepared cocktails while I stuck with a Topo Chico. I still felt right at home. Overall, Bar Loretta felt like a world away from the tourist-heavy spots along the River Walk. Dining out has gotten so expensive lately and too often the food or service does not justify the price. Bar Loretta delivered on both. Great food, great service, great value. Highly recommend. We would absolutely come back. 5 stars

Next time I'd for sure reserve a table inside to experience the ambiance. The servers were so sweet and took care of us well. Will be back!
