I was visiting from San Francisco and found plantaqueria when looking for a vegan + gluten free breakfast/brunch option and was so wowed I went back multiple days in a row! 11/10, the breakfast tacos will haunt my dreams now and force me to come back to San Antonio, although I have no reason to.
Found this place highly rated on both Yelp and GrubHub so I thought I'd give it a shot for delivery for lunch. I had the torta and the street corn. Both were underwhelming, to say the least. Let's start with the corn. The cilantro on top looked dark, old, and wilted. There was a sprinkling of flavors and some cheese on top. Aside from that, it was nothing more than canned corn with adornment. Eight dollars for a serving it's sibling not worth it. The torta was a little bit better. The beef was soft and flavorful, but there was a very little other than that. I opted for the nopalitos. The bread was tasty, but not very well toasted. Overall, this was lacking in both presentation and flavor. I do not think I will be trying this place again.
This place is such a vibe with all the bright colors and open space. The employees greet you right away and helped us answer questions about the menu. It's %100 vegan! I was nervous to try it but it did not disappoint. My friend had the La Lucha which he chorizo , seasoned potatoes , scrambled eggs and vegan cheese. She also had the Barbara which is jackfruit barbacoa. I was able to taste both and they were well seasoned and the taco its self was huge! She said she really liked them. I tried the quesadilla with asada on a corn tortila. This was so good I couldn't tell it was plant based. The cheese was so creamy and stringy with the perfect pull. They also put the cilantro and onion inside the quesadilla which makes a big difference. Every bite was full of flavor. We also got guacamole with chips and a brewchata which is horchata mixed with cold brew. The chips were fresh and crunchy. The gauc was so good paired with their house salsa. They have two choices but I prefer the green on since it's has more of a kick to it. The brewchata was good but it was more bitter than sweet for my liking.

So I gave minimum stars because for the price of the food I wasn't overly happy w a few things: 1) The quac looked like it turned a day or two ago. This was $10.00 dollars. 2) The staff was nice, just forgetful from the table to counter. They were not slammed, I just think forgetful. Nice, but just not all there paying attention. 3) Food was one note on flavors and nothing that was craveable. I have had multiple vegan places in San Antonio and this was the one that was w the least flavor profile. The food did jack up my husband's stomach and I ... so I ended up leaving my left overs behind. He got the chilequiles (however you spell it) and I got the enchiladas w potato y chorizo. I asked for a side of refried beans and they put the beans in the food w no chorizo. All the flavors again blended and it felt oddly heavy/processed. Now the quac---- quac should be fresh, vibrant green, seasoned and delicious. This looked overly oxidized and old. The ticket w tip was $77 and was a waste. I am glad others like it, but we won't be back.
This restaurant was next to my hotel so I tried it out, I honestly didn't know it was vegan when I went in (the name should have given it away, I know) but I was surprised that my food was flavorful and good! I'd give 3.5 stars honestly, the agua fresca was delicious, but I ordered the birria quesadilla and would say it's not as good as the real thing imo. Probably a good spot for people with plant based diets, the service was good and ambiance was very cool though!
REALLY wanted to love this place but I think the food could've been a lot better unfortunately. The first thing I tried was the birria quesatacos, and while I've never had regular consommé, so I can't tell if the one here is accurate to the non-vegan version, the one here was kind of salty and slightly bitter which I didn't really enjoy. I also got the mini tacos with carne asada and pollo asado and I thought the tacos were kinda dry. The protein itself was pretty dry too but it did have a meaty texture. I also got their pineapple agua fresca and the pineapple flavor was light and the drink itself was watery. Overall I wasn't really impressed but I would still come back to try their other menu items.
Everything about this place was A1 zero complaints! Clean Friendly And DELICIOUS The food is everything youd want regardless if you eat animals or not.

I ordered La Lucha and it was delicious! I'd definitely order it again. I think this food tastes amazing for both vegans and no vegans alike. It's just delicious. I'm not a vegan. The corn tortillas are so good. And the salsas were spicy and tasty just was they should be. My friends ordered La Lucha and La Frida. They enjoyed them so much that they ordered more to go. The music was a bonus! We could've had a dance party in there.
Finally walked in today for the 1st time visiting from California. Being a vegan, not too many options but this place was a gold mine. Service was great when walking in, the place is well taken care of and clean. The food is amazing. Being here I tried many dishes, but none compares to the season and taste of this place. I ordered the birria quesatacos and the 4 mini tacos with carne asada and jackfruit barbacoa and washed it down with mango agua fresca. Everything was delicious. I should've ate here all weekend. Next time I visit, this will probably be that place I will only eat at.
This is a charming small business that can satisfy the strongest of cravings for authentic Mexican vegan vittles. The staff were a super welcoming and high energy. There was a long wait between ordering and eating, but we were warned prior to ordering and decided it was worth it. The food was incredible. I got to sample two different tacos and the st'k and chick'n mini tacos. Everything was fantastic. The only downside of the visit was the thick haze from the grill, which is in the same space as the dining room. The restaurant would benefit from an Improved ventilation system. That said, I would go back in a heartbeat.

The Pollo Asado mini tacos are delicious as well as their individual breakfast tacos. My husband loved the torta. He's loves his real eggs but didn't miss them here. This is our new go to brunch while we're in town. Oh, and get the elote and pumpkin empanada!

Like pretty perverse. Minus a star as it meant dining in would be unpleasant. Anyways, the employee was friendly and the menu was easy to navigate. I got the Birria, a side of charro beans and chips and guacamole. All to go. It took about 5 minutes to be prepared. During the wait I got some green and red salsa, which spoiler alert they both were quite unremarkable. I enjoy hot sauces and salsas but these were meh. No real flavor. The birria was quite good with fake meat and vegan cheese. It came with dipping sauce which I didn't find it elevated the dish. However I would get it again. The guacamole was good. The chips crisp but covered in oil. The charro beans were good. All in all I enjoyed the meal however I had higher hopes. I will try them again but likely order something else.

I was passing through the Alamo City and you know I just had to stop by for some morning fuel and roadie tacos! This time, I didn't forget to take some pics for y'all. However, this time I had something I hadn't tried before, which was the portobello torta, check the pic posted here, but I warn you, if a pic says 1k words, then a taste says a bagillion words (is that even English ?). But that's what happens when umami meets Mexican bliss. When your order is taken with pleasure and prepared before your eyes at this bustling establishment, it's flair mixed with fair. Go check out what has me coming back for more, time and time again. As I left, with my road tacs, the owner reminded me that the food travels well, I neglected to inform her that I didn't expect them to make it very far . Again, it's a must see scene here at Plantaqueria- hope to see y'all there. read more
My husband and I tried a few items here over a couple visits. The Machacado con huevo, here called La Macha with housemade jackfruit machacado scrambled with a vegan egg mix. (It had Just Egg but I think other things added with it. It felt that it was softer and lighter than if it was only Just Egg) and pico de gallo on handmade flour tortilla. We were surprised by how much we enjoyed it. Their two self-serve complementary salsas were also fun and creamy. Concha- Delicious and we liked the top of it. Maybe one of our favorite conchas. Elote hot cake - Came out really hot and was delicious. These are only available on weekends. I was tempted to get more but we had lots more food targets on the schedule. Torta with Asada was pretty good too. But the other items excited me more I think. The person at the front also gave us some samples of other taco fillings to try: the fillings of the La Ranchera: Potatoes and pico de gallo in salsa ranchera and also grilled nopales. My husband who is usually not as crazy as me about nopales liked them here. They have mole on the weekends but it's not housemade from scratch. They use premade mole and add some more things to it so we skipped that one. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! I was visiting downtown San Antonio for the first time and, after seeing the Alamo and walking around the mall near the River Walk, I wanted to avoid the typical chain restaurants and find something with more of a hidden gem, hole-in-the-wall feel. Plantequeria was exactly that. From the outside, it's pretty unassuming, but the food completely exceeded expectations. The plant-based meat was shockingly good -- honestly, if I hadn't known it was plant-based, I never would've guessed. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and very reasonably priced for the quality. What really made the experience stand out was the hospitality and passion from the chef and staff. You can tell they genuinely care about the food and the experience they create. Overall, this ended up being one of the highlights of my trip, and I'd recommend it to anyone visiting San Antonio, whether you're vegan or not. read more

What a good surprise to find a good vegan taqueria in San Antonio! My husband and I were visiting from Austin, and we found this gem. We ordered one mini taco plate and a full taco. Our favorite protein was the portobello mushroom one. And their horchata was really yummy as well, made with coconut milk! The service was exceptional, served Michael was super friendly and took time to explain each item and gave us samples to try before we ordered as well. As we were inspired by the history of almo, we decided to have Mexican foods instead of Italian! We googled it and found this vegan restaurant near the river walk! As we walked in, a friendly staff, Micheal, supported our visit there and gave us good explanations for the foods we were choosing. He gave us some samples for the protein items! That was brilliant and very helpful and we were able to get the ones we wanted at the end! We got the mini tacos (4 mini tacos), single taco and a delicious horchata! Personally, portabello mushroom ones are the winner of the night but they were all good! Love to have nice vegan restaurant like this in Jarrell, TX! Anyways, keep up the great work! Cheers read more

Quick stop while in town and had Very good tacos. The ordering was quick and staff helpful and so kind. My son loved the rice a bit different than the rice I'm used to in CA but still very good. I ordered the Birria jackfruit tacos that came with a side of broth. The broth was ok I personally didn't care for it too much but love the flavor of the tacos by themselves. I can't compare to the real deal but for vegan it was great. read more

It seemed like it wasn't a great part of town so I got my food to go The people working here were really nice When I got back after a ten minute walk, the tortilla were still warm and intact. Usually they disintegrate and tear if you don't eat your tacos right away I thought everything was very flavorful. I got the four mini tacos. You can't get four different flavors but can get two options which is what I did I let them pick The sauce was great too. Tasted like a creamy habanero sauce that went well with the tacos It looks like a protein salad but these were very good read more
Plantaqueria is a plant-based Mexican restaurant located in downtown San Antonio. There are parking meters along Broadway and Travis, which is most convenient if you're parking downtown. I had the pleasure of finally dining at this restaurant and it was a good experience. There are ~10 tables inside this restaurant and you are welcomed with bright yellow walls contrasting with pink air ducts and plates. I ordered the mini tacos (4) with carne asada and a topo chico ($17.32). It did not take long for the food to come out and it tasted very similar to the 'real stuff'. They have a slew of breakfast tacos, plates, and other sides, along with aguas frescas. I believe this is a great place for anyone looking for a vegan restaurant, albeit it's on the pricey side. Overall, good experience and I'd stop by again whilst in the area. Peace. read more
I can't believe everything was plant based. We had it delivered and I liked the presentation of how they boxed everything up. My favorite was the tacos. It was even good the next day and a few days after. We ordered a lot and finished most of it. I highly suggest trying it out. Get the tacos for sure read more

Food was delicious! Plantaqueria truly is a Mexican vegetarian & vegan taqueria. If you are looking for Tex-Mex without animal fat this is your place. We had breakfast tacos, 1 taco each would have been enough. In addition 2 of us shared an order of Birria tacos, the great flavor without animal flesh. So creative! The horchata was tasty & a little sweet for my preference. It's smokey inside the restaurant not too inviting. read more

This is a place that's a woman owned business. It's vegan. And it's really good. It's a small shop close to the Alamo, and has a distinctively taco shop vibe. You order at the counter, and they bring it out to you. The staff were happy to answer questions and take some time. We ordered the jackfruit barbacoa, nopales (cactus we are told), and a birria. And everything was delicious. We were very happy with our choice and finding a place that made it authentic and yet vegan was awesome. read more
I came here with my friend and my academic advisor for lunch during our academic conference and we all were pleasantly surprised to find a purely vegan restaurant! The food was incredibly flavorful and fresh, and the portions are huge! Our server was very helpful and friendly, and he was super nice about giving us recommendations! While there are limited seating options, it's totally worth it to wait and enjoy your meal! It's a cute Mexican restaurant vibe with fun pink and yellow decor! Place is pretty cute and quaint. When you walk-in it's a small establishment with limited seating. We ordered and sat down in an area that was just cleaned. The people who sat last did not clean up after themselves. I ordered la frida, and la Luca with a side of rice. My friend ordered la tejana, la ranchera, and la amiga with a side of potatoes. He ordered a horchata and I got a topo to drink. The food took a little while as it was one young girl doing the assembly. The horchata drink came from the back. Over all my tacos were good. I did like the frida more than the other. My friend liked two out three of his tacos. He wasn't a fan of the ranchera one. Overall I would say it's good but not great. I wouldn't go out of my way for it. The rice was a little over cooked, burned and mushy. Presentation wise it looked nice. Portions in the taco were filled to max. I would say give it a go and support a local small business in the area. Judge for yourself. I was underwhelmed and the food wasn't anything to rave about. I did like that everything was vegan so no cross contamination. Also, the fried cheese bits that came in my taco were good. read more

This summer in 107' degree downtown San Antonio we were dying of thirst. Directly across from our destination was this eatery, an oasis in the desert! We were going to just get drinks but I had a yearning for a taco. Well the Aqua Fresca was also calling our name, so I went for the mango and it was refreshing and delicious! Now I do not recall the mini taco flavor that we chose but let me tell you, these were some delicious tacos. I don't think I realized that most of the offerings are vegan. You would think a name like PLANTaqueria would give us a clue but we were so parched! Never the less those tacos went down so smooth! 4 stars is only because I didn't really understand what I was ordering and the explanation wasn't clear enough for me. But whatever it was we ordered, it was fabulous! read more

Love this place!!! I travel a lot for work and whenever I'm in San Antonio I always swing by here for some tacos. I love when I can find tasty vegan options and all of their tacos are super filling and satisfying. My favorite is La Lucha I usually order 2 of those. read more
