Shrimp and grits after I ate about 1/2!
    Lourdes E.

Stopped here for a dessert and coffee so we went back for lunch today. I got the shrimp and grits that comes with cornbread and a small salad- it was a generous serving. My husband had the crab, corn and bacon in puff pastry - both were good. We shared the coconut pumpkin spice cake that he liked but not my thing really. Service by Luis was friendly and very efficient. Will return on our next visit.

The Great Gal and I enjoyed a wonderfully tasty lunch with Brother/Sister-in Laws at The Cottage in Bluffton, SC. We split a Shrimp Cobb Salad that was yum, yum, yum. Likewise, the In-Laws split a Shrimp Beet Salad. Everyone enjoyed. We followed our salads by each splitting a salted caramel and chocolate chunk cookie. The Cottage is an old Post Civil War home converted to a restaurant that is also a SC Historical Society building. Charming and quaint are just not descriptive enough to describe this place. Our server Jaelyn was a server supreme. Totally on top of her game and gracious as can be. If you visit Bluffton, you must put The Cottage on your itinerary.... You will not be disappointed.

We were looking for an experience, not just a great lunch & our friends recommended eating here. We didn't have too much time as some in our group had a plane to catch. Our server, Kimee understood & was quick & efficient! The food was fabulous. Avocado, mango & crab cake salad was so tasty. Fried chicken wrap was just right. Shrimp & grits was tasty and the gumbo was just right. Portions are huge, meaning two meals for one.

The food was excellent along with the service! Andrea was awesome -- we sat outside and it was great!!

Caesar wrap, gumbo with sweet corn bread. All delicious, great service and reasonable prices.

A great place for lunch or an afternoon snack. The food always tastes really fresh and great pastries and pies. Summer time outdoor sitting can get warm but lovely porch!

    French dip grilled panini

Visited here during a road trip for the second visit since the last one about ten years ago, both with pleasant results. The French Dip grilled panini was delicious with thick bread and equally thick slices of roast beef. It's served with a variety of fruit and generous portion of potato chips. The ambiance is historic and, well, cottage-like given the long history of the establishment.

Quaint historic house with porch dining. Full tea menu but no espresso; breakfast ends early to swap to lunch menu. Loved the tomato pie--unique deep dish style with great crust. Could use a few more vegetarian options for lunch.

Just stopped by for some soda, ended up trying some desserts. The shortbread chocolate chip was good, but small and a bit dry. It's one of those cute small funky artsy places. Service was friendly but a bit slow. LOL--beware there is only one bathroom and there can be quite a line. So much so they have a sign telling you where other bathrooms in nearby parks are :)

Stopped by for Sunday brunch-after a wait of about 20 minutes we were seated inside. Once we were the Service was very friendly and attentive. Food was delicious, just as before. Poached eggs over fried green tomatoes with the toasted muffin on the side. The only way it could be better would be to have better jam selection.

    Mango -n- Crab Cake
    Elaine W.

Lovely restaurant with a full wall of tea selections and beautiful desserts display. We liked the fresh flavor of mango-N-crab cake. The southern gentleman had too much hollandaise over the food. Would be great to have the sauce on the side. The crab cakes are also very creamy in the middle. Overall a bit too much of a creamy texture in the food. The teawares are beautiful. Definitely a great place to go for afternoon tea. The food is a bit pricy for the location.

The restaurant is street parking. There is street level outdoor seating for a wheelchair but there is no accessible bathroom.

Staff was friendly. But the avocado toast was on ciabatta bread (no one asked what kind of bread we wanted) and it was such a slim layer of avocado. Very disappointed. What I don't know is whether they have changed their toast for all locations and reduced the amount of avocado or was this a fluke or only typical of the Bluffton location. We will go back to the port royal location sometime this week because now I need to know! Oh and we tried the roasted potatoes which I have never tried before. The flavors/herbs were good but the potatoes were not cooked fresh so they were soft/chewy.

The place is so enticing on the outside (white and red building with open deck with plenty of seating)... we decided to check it out and the inside was just as pleasant. Lots of wood trim and colorful accents and the girls that welcomed us in were "perky" (no pun intended). My wife got a LAVENDER HONEY LATTE and I got a CHURRO LATTE. We noticed they had lots of breakfast options (omelettes, quiche, skillets, breakfast burritos, baked goodies and more). We didn't get any but we were tempted. We sat outside and enjoyed out coffees; my wife loved her latte and my Churro was sweet and delicious... and off we went for our hike thru the Cypress Wetlands. I was not entirely sure what a "waffle pop" would turn out to be, but I ended up with two of them in an order, freshly made and topped with one fruit and one sauce of choice. Getting bananas with blueberry sauce was a good choice, one of many I expect. My strawberry matcha with boba was compromised by them running out of strawberry boba, but the regular tapioca balls did just fine soaked in a robustly flavored beverage. Their donut selection was appealing, but I simply did not have room. It would be tough to get out of there without getting a ton of sugar, and this place did not seem to have a ton for the more niche special dietary needs. However, it did have a lot of interesting messaging as a community space, with resources directed towards military families in particular, which moves me to look favorably on the place. And their stuff is delicious.

It was not at all what I expected in a strip mall near a chain hotel. What a cheerful place, the walls yellow, the windows decorated with big bright suns, the menu boards artfully illustrated, kitchy motivational signs everywhere. I was greeted with a geniality matching the overall vibe by a woman whom it was apparent was the owner. I complimented her on the name "Sunny Summers". She told me it was named after her two daughters. There was a young girl working with her so I asked her if she was Sunny or Summer. She didn't say anything. As it turned out she was neither - just an unrelated employee. I had only come in for a cup of coffee but I saw the donuts and couldn't resist. Many of them were outrageous sugar bombs - and beautiful to look at. But I settled on a more sedate cinnamon-sugar. Glad I did. It was fried to order then dusted with the topping and served not in a bag but in a cute box sized just right for the single. So when I ate it in the car 5 minutes later it was still warm, and fresh as can be. Does she always do this or was it because I arrived just after opening? Unsure, but it was a spectacularly good donut. The coffee, too, was excellent. Strong, no bitterness or sourness, and from a local independent roaster. The other foods mostly fit in the category of sweet indulgences: donuts with crazy toppings, "waffle pops", french toast. A few lunch items like panini. The burger offering was made with pancakes rather than the traditional bun! Now a few words about the proprietor. I was astonished by her outfit that left little to the imagination. At 7 in the morning! It was hard to keep my eyes where they belonged but I managed! (Sorry, I have no photos, for obvious reasons.) I realized later, when I did more research on the place, that this was part of her shtick, playing off her reputation as retired professional wrestler Lacey Evans. Before that she was in the Marine Corps serving in the military police force. An interesting choice of careers for sure. There's a board with prepaid receipts that the less-fortunate can use to get food. That's great. I wish I had known about it when I was there, not later during my research. I would definitely have prepaid a meal. Also, discounts for military and first responders. Not necessarily how I would do things but I know her intentions were good. The world needs more places like this. So a plea to anyone reading this: You may not be able to give up your Dunkin and Starbucks completely, as I have. But just try it for a month, or even a week: next time you need a fix check Google or Yelp for independent coffee shops, try something different, even if you have to go a little out of your way. You may just discover a new favorite hangout.
