I'm a Blufftonian and I haven't been to the cottage in a long time. Today a gave it try (husband out of town). The wait was super long no problem that means you have good food. When an older gentleman fussed he got seated before us waiting an hour. I understood they were short and behind no problem. Each plate came out at different times; all 3!!! They gave my son a dessert on the house which I thought was nice then they lost my credit card. Please cottage get your stuff together before opening your doors again. My wife and I split the fried green tomato BLT with pimento cheese. It came with a salad. The sandwich was delicious, and more than enough for the two of us. Highly recommended. The salad was great too. Very fresh and we loved the sweet balsamic dressing. The Cottage is small, but quaint and attractive. There is indoor and outdoor dining. Our server was very pleasant and efficient. There is a bakery here. We got some cookies to take away, and they were very good. Update: The service is really hit or miss. Today our service was awful. We received our drinks after our food, waited 10-15 minutes before our server even appeared, and had to ask three separate times for our check. Not to mention I had to ask the busser, food runner, and hostess for help because our server was MIA for the majority of our meal. If it wasn't for previous experiences, I would never go back. The table next to us had the exact same issues and was questioned when he tried to send his food back. The other server on the deck was awesome, the tables behind us arrived after us, enjoyed their meal, and left before we did. --------- The cottage has a wonderful atmosphere. My husband and I had a late breakfast and tea which is a great option. The waitresses and hostess were very accommodating even though the place was very busy. I really glad we stopped by and checked this place out, I would have liked to tried their breakfast but we came around lunch time and I didn't have much of a sweet tooth, wanted to try something savory. My husband and I were promptly seated in the patio area, the restaurant outside has a homely feel very cottagey style and just very home feeling. The server was pleasant and prompt. We ended up sharing the chicken lettuce wraps, when they came out the chicken was piping hot it was sooo good. I loved the fact that it felt like it came right off a skillet and just wasn't sitting there to get cold. It was such a great combination of flavors and also to have the hot food with the cold lettuce was perfect. I really enjoyed this dish and I even asked for extra lettuce and they didn't give me any hassle they were nice enough to bring me 2 more even though I asked for one. I highly recommend, the prices were a little expensive than what I was expecting but it was definitely quality food. Great place! read more

As a visitor from out of town, I really, really wanted to fall in love with this place. Cute cottage with a great atmosphere, a good looking menu but a few things stuck out which would leave me searching for something else next time. The waitress was very inexperienced... I think she was new but she should not have been on her own already. Sweet! But needs to know more about her craft before serving. I was also very disappointed with how unhealthy everything came out... the grouper taco specials were very greasy with lots of cheese! The flavor of the grouper was great but I was pretty unhappy with the soppy grease on my plate. The pimento cheese appetizer was underwhelming and the salad had too much dressing... this place has the bones to do some great things, but is missing the boat a bit. read more

" High Tea" here does not exist. It is more of a " High Mess" . They throw in store bought cookies on top of the tray tear. The sandwiches are a laugh and the " tea" is not that great. There are no finger sandwiches, they are regular sandwiches. It's a cute place but it's a rip off. Always crowded and not relaxing at all. You're shoved in a table and they insinuate like a "take it or leave it" attitude. It should be called " Low Tea". We have eaten in this little gem of a restaurant one other time before for lunch. Wow! Great food! The salads and sandwiches are wonderful. The desserts here are phenomenal too, all homemade. I had the Avocado Caprese with Grilled Shrimp and it was really fabulous! A big, generous salad, the combination of tomato, shrimp, mozzarella, greens & avocado was one of the most delicious flavors I've ever had in a salad! I loved it and wished I had more room in my stomach to finish it. My daughter tried something different: chicken avocado schnitzel. If you love veal schnitzel, you will love this dish! I had a taste and I thought it was authentic German schnitzel! Very nice dish. My other daughter split a wrap with her friend: tomato, basil, mozzarella with balsamic dressing. Good thing they split it because it was huge and they still couldn't finish it! But they really enjoyed it. I recommend dining at the Cottage for lunch next time you visit Bluffton. First, the ambiance is really cool...nice Lowcountry feel. Its a fun place. (I love seeing these businesses starting in Bluffton.)The coffee is good too. Although I didn't taste them...the pastries look wonderful too. I had the classic eggs Benedict. Presentation was nice. I asked for eggs done easy and they were done perfectly. That's the good...on the bad, the Canadian bacon was more like shaved ham...the potatoes came with basically raw green peppers, onions and sort of boiled diced potatoes in a sauce...more like sauteed ...not what you want for breakfast potatoes. In the end..not something I would order again. This is my second breakfast here...bottom line I live the look and idea if the place but the breakfasts have been forgettable. I will see how lunch and dinner fare before a final verdict. Update. I mentioned my feedback to my waiter...in a very professional manner he notified the owner. She took the feedback in a positive manner and refunded my money without me bringing it up. WOW...that makes me very optimistic and willing to come back again...very well done! Update..went back and had forgotten about the potato mush...terrible stuff for breakfast. The coffee was $3.50...good but overpriced. I have been dreaming of fried green tomatoes, of shrimp and grits and of blackened mahi mahi Cesar salads since my brunch at The Cottage a couple weekends ago! Ever so often, I also have flashes of their warm, sweet corn bread and honey whipped butter. Just the thought of all that deliciousness makes me smile :) It's safe to say that my meal here was probably one of the most delicious ones ever! And other than a slightly flustered server, and the ridiculously small tables, I have nothing negative to say about my experience. The Cottage is a cute little joint in a historic & somewhat eccentric neighborhood, with indoor and outdoor seating. The food is fresh, absolutely delicious and they don't hold back on the portions either! I bought myself a bottle of their corn bread mix... fingers crossed, it will taste half as good as the one they served there... and if not, well I guess I'll just have to make another trip to Bluffton then! :) read more

Always a 5* experience with food and staff-never a bad meal and I always look forward to the mini cornbread muffins with the maple butter-been visiting Bluffton for many years and this is a must stop for us. Outside seating is lovely if it works. This last visit we hit it for lunch on the front end of our family trip and breakfast on the back end of our family trip. We had two larger parties and they were very accommodating both times though there isn't a great deal of inside seating. read more

This place is cute, it's in an interesting area, and the staff are friendly. The blackened grouper with a fruit and black bean salsa is a great example of the food here: It's based on an interesting idea that is not well executed. The salsa was cold (like on purpose cold from the refrigerator) and contained huge chunks of fruit. You could barely see the fish under it. The fish itself was nice, but the dish was overall a disaster. The ubiquitous mixed vegetable side (on every entree?) seemed like a naked attempt to fill half a huge plate with food. No one I was with ate even half of that. Also this side is a mess: it's shredded carrots and shredded other stuff with some whole snap peas and I don't remember what else. Miraculously it doesn't actually taste bad, but it's so unwieldy and unappetizing looking. The portions are massive. You want to be appreciative, but at some point it's just like, dude, just give me what a normal person realistically eats in one meal. The wine menu is poorly done. Almost all bottles cost the same thing and there is bad selection and variety. There is no clear low-end bottle and no clear high-end bottle. They're all low- to low-mid end selections. The wine menu is in dire need of a sommelier or consultant. It doesn't need to be fancy schmancy, just done better by someone who knows wine. The draft beer selection was an IPA or Allagash White. So that's an IPA or one of the most specific-tasting beers I know of. This shows no apparent awareness of the world of beer today. This selection also needs an overhaul. If none of these things were issues I could've been ok paying 70-something dollars for two people having a drink and an entree each, but since all of the above are true I think the prices here are obscene, just absolutely tragically high. read more

I went down to this joint feeling hungry, and left full. I ordered a stuffed french toast filled with turkey and ham and cheese. The edges are so crispy as the inside is so soft and warm. The pastries also looked and tasted good. I highly recommend getting the chocolate blondie. read more

The #1 reason to go here: the food (it's rare I can say that). On a sweltering summer day, waiting 10 minutes was no easy feat. But we'd heard such high regard about The Cottage from locals, we were compelled to sweat, fan, huff and puff until we were seated. As a mostly vegetarian traveling the South, I'm usually limited to a medley of vegetable sides. This place had full entrees for me and my meat-eating parents -- and The Cottage would be a hit in Los Angeles, which is saying a lot considering the widely varying tastes between the two coasts. Starting with the best: Lettuce Wraps. My parents had the Thai Basil Shrimp & Okra and Lime Ginger Shrimp wraps -- the perfectly portioned lunch. They are nuts for shrimp, and the Lime Ginger had some unique asian flavors (garlic, ginger, edamame) that we'd been craving since we left California. My Veggie-Heaven Protein Burger salad was indeed a bit of vegetarian paradise in the carniverous haven of the South. The protein burger is MADE IN-HOUSE. Forget Boca and Gardenburger frozen patties, this burger was a soft blend of onions and mushrooms, with a creme fraiche sauce served atop greens and edamame. The Mint Iced Tea was really refreshing, but unsweetened. Expect to wait a long time unless you have reservations. read more

The Cottage is a true gem in old town Bluffton. My family has a vacation place just north of Bluffton, so we spend 1-2 weekends a month in the area. The Cottage never lets you down. They have an amazing menu full of things you'll want to try. My go to/ favorite is the bread salad w/ the crab cake. It's unique and amazing. Tons of Veggies on top of a thin flat bread w/ two deliciously crabby crab cakes. Their fish tacos are top notch too. The yellow fin.. Oh I could go on and on. The baking is impressive too. Some of the best sweets in the south. Service is A++. read more

AHHH so amazing!!!! Obviously everyone was very busy but can you blame the place?!?!?!? The food is OUTSTANDING I had the liver and onions (PERFECT) I also tried the shrimp and grits, lobster and avocado roll and the buffalo chicken wrap because i needed to eat off of everyones plate at my table. Our waitress was the sweetest woman ever even though she was extremely busy and I love an actual GREAT cup of coffee!!! This place hit the ball out of the park for me. I'm from Boston and I cannot even come close to comparing this amazing place to ANYWHERE!!! I will forever come back every single time I visit and I thank them for existing!!!!!!
