**Disappointing Experience at Cook'd in Minden**…read more We had a group of 11 of us traveling on a motorcycle road trip and were looking for a nice place to stop for lunch while passing through Minden. We chose Cook'd because the restaurant looked clean and inviting in the photos, and the menu looked very good. We arrived on a Saturday around 12:30 p.m. We were warmly greeted and seated together in the front dining room. The restaurant did not appear particularly busy, with plenty of open tables. Unfortunately, that's where our positive experience started to decline. Our server took our drink orders, but there was a significant delay before we received them. When it came time to order our food, we were told that the restaurant would not allow separate checks. For a group of 11, we would have needed only six checks, which seems like a reasonable request. Anyone who has traveled with a large group knows how difficult it can be to divide one large bill fairly. Trying to determine each person's food, drinks, tax and tip individually is a hassle that the restaurant could easily avoid by simply providing separate checks. In my opinion, if a restaurant chooses to require one check for a group, it should have a good reason--and the service should be organized enough to justify that policy. We were told in the past by other restaurants that large groups sometimes have to use one check so the kitchen can coordinate the meals and have everything come out together. Unfortunately, that certainly wasn't our experience at Cook'd. Our meals came out in pieces, with some people finished eating before others had received their food. The biggest problem was that **one person's meal never came out at all**. We eventually had to track down our server and the manager to find out what happened. When the meal finally arrived, it was cold. We asked if the meal could be removed from the bill. The server initially said she couldn't do that but would check with the manager. To the restaurant's credit, the manager did agree to remove the meal from the bill. Unfortunately, the billing problems continued. After we finally received our bill, the restaurant agreed to separate it into two checks. However, the tip was then **double-charged, resulting in a 36% tip**. We had to catch the error ourselves. The entire experience was frustrating and, frankly, unacceptable. We came in expecting a pleasant lunch at what appeared to be a nice restaurant, but the slow and inattentive service, meals arriving at different times, a missing and cold meal, and the billing/tip issue made the experience much more difficult than it should have been. I hope the management at Cook'd takes this review as constructive criticism. The restaurant itself has a nice appearance, the menu looked appealing, and the staff was initially friendly. With better organization, more attentive service, and a better system for handling larger groups and their checks, this could be a much better experience for customers. For our group, however, this lunch was a total fiasco and certainly not the experience we expected.

I absolutely love this restaurant! It's under new ownership, but they've kept the menu and Chicago…read moreimported ingredients the exact same, with some exciting new developments...! Tonight I ordered the pepperoni, sausage and mushroom pizza and a Chicago dog to-go. The pie was square-cut Chicago-style, with browned cheese, pepperoni, crumbled Italian sausage, and mushrooms. The sausage has the fennel note you expect on a Chicago pie, not bland grocery sausage. The dog was built the right way: Vienna beef, poppy seed bun, yellow mustard, neon relish, onion, tomato wedges, pickle spear, sport pepper, and celery salt. The restaurant still imports the dogs, sausage, Italian beef, relish, giardiniera, buns, and rolls from Chicago, and the mushrooms are imported and blanched. The dining room still has the original family photos and Chicago memorabilia. Ordering is easier than it used to be. They now have online ordering at chicagomikes.pizza, you can create an account, and they deliver. I also witnessed DoorDash there while waiting for my order to be ready; so that's an option now too. If you sign in to the new website, they run a points setup that can turn into discounts or a free side once it adds up. Confirm the current reward on the site when you order, because that part is not spelled out yet on the menu. This is still the Chicago-style stop I use in the Carson Valley: thin square pie and a Chicago dog made perfectly; not a generic pizza chain. They also sell deep dish if that is what you want. Hours are limited (typically closed Monday and Tuesday), so check before you go. Menu: https://chicagomikes.pizza/menu

I checked this place out in the afternoon before deciding to go to dinner there. It looked pretty casual in the menu look like something everybody would enjoy. When we got there, we were greeted nicely and our server, JC, was very nice. All of the food was bountiful. We ordered the appetizer with three different items which was pretty good. It was onion rings, fried zucchini, and fried mozzarella sticks. The zucchini was a little undercooked. On to the main courses. It took longer than we would think and they brought it out in pieces. The two men got theirs first and my daughter and I got hers a few minutes later and Grandma was served last. Grandpa ordered a steak sandwich and he said it was good. My husband ordered a Philly cheese steak, which she said was decent. Grandma ordered fish and chips and she said it was so so. The french fries were thick steak type that were really good. A couple of us tried them. My daughter and I were excited when we saw the lobster tacos and we ordered them. The chips that came with them were salty beyond belief! We could not even eat them. When I told JC, she said there's nothing they could do about the chips and she offered to take the salad off the bill which I thought was nice. Both of my daughter and I could not eat the chips. The lobster tacos were not good. If the corn tortillas were warmed or cooked, it must've been very, very little. The lobster was chopped up in a wait and mixed with some kind of sauce that we can barely taste the lobster. We got two tacos and barely ate one. We took them home, but it didn't seem worth it to try to mend this. The best thing I can say is that the people they were very welcoming and pleasant. Also, JC gave my father-in-law a lemon bar for his birthday as we walked out. That was really sweet. Lastly, make sure you bring cash because you have to pay extra for using a card. We have to pay over $6 extra because we used a card. Am I understanding is that is happening a lot in restaurants. So, I don't think this is unusual.

The perfect spot when family comes to town!…read more The Pink House is my go-to place whenever I have family visiting--and it never disappoints! Located in historic Genoa (Nevada's very first settlement), this beautifully restored 1855 Gothic Revival landmark has that wonderful old-time feel that makes the experience special from the moment you walk in. The food is fantastic, with a delicious Southern twist that reminds me of New Orleans--big, bold flavors that make every bite memorable. We also loved the wood-fired pizzas, which are a must-try. And the craft cocktails? Absolutely yummy. To top it all off, they feature live acoustic music that adds such a fun, lively vibe to the whole experience. The service was great, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Perfect for a family visit or a night out with friends. Can't wait to come back! Highly recommend.

I think it's safe to say they use frozen corn which is a shame because fresh corn is still very much in season. I had their corn as an accompaniment to one of my past dishes and the texture is the same. Completely over cooked, soggy, mushy corn on the cob with absolutely no flavor. And get this, it costs $18 or $19! It's literally one corn on the cob that they portion into 4 or 6 pieces. Fish Special - It was rock fish with a red pepper sauce, eggplant stacked with feta and herbed roasted potatoes. The fish was over cooked and really salty. Eggplant was dry and difficult to eat. I didn't even bother with it. Potatoes, no big deal. Margherita Pizza - Good flavor, just not a fan of their crust Tchoupitoulas- We've gotten this in the past and this seems to be consistent with flavor and execution. My husband said it was as good as the first time. Kid's Mac n Cheese - At $19 I expected a large portion. It's not. But it was the best dish we ordered. It's more of a macaroni with Alfredo sauce rather than a cheddar mac n cheese. My son enjoyed it as did everyone else at the table.

Before you get there, decide how many tacos you want to eat. There will be temptation, stick to your guns. The quick and efficient service may tempt you into an extra taco, resist. Develop the plan, work the plan, stay on the plan. The same goes for weenie Wednesday. The waitress explained it to us once. The owner secures Casper brand hot dogs, bring them over the hill weekly, and the hot dog is designed to snap when you bite into it. I'm convinced this is a covert plan to get you to change your plan. I wish you the best of luck here. The weenie Wednesday menu reflects a variety of flavors that will tempt you into deviating from the plan. I've never heard of a Reuben dog, or a Caesar dog. When I grew up, I had mustard dogs. These dogs are way beyond that and the venue tempts you to try new versions of different hot dogs. One of my excuses the last time I had weenie Wednesday was that " sauerkraut is good for my gut biome." So on taco Tuesday and weenie Wednesday, you could be tempted into a second round. That's not a good thing. The service has been fun, the environment, friendly, and welcoming, people laughing throughout the room, enjoying their food. Makes it a great experience. Oh heck, you're in the building you're hungry, change the plan, enjoy.
