The copper still has what is probably my favorite happy hour in the city!! My partner and I come fairly frequently (which is a big deal itself since we try to avoid repeating places) when we find ourselves in east village and it never disappoints. Their happy hour goes until 8pm which is a huge plus if you're working late, and consists of $10 cocktails and cheap drafts. There is also a deal on a guinness and a shot for $12! My go to cocktail on the happy hour menu is the antioxidant, which while sweet, is also quite spirit forward. Copper still also has a large whiskey list, which my partner always looks forward to browsing and ordering from . But the real star of the happy hour is the hot chicken slider, which we both agree is in our top 3 chicken sandwich in the city.. and each one is only $3. We order those and tater tots (not on happy hour but a generous portion for the price) and are set for food! The tater tots come with a housemade bacon ranch, which while I'm not a fan of ranch, I am OBSESSED with this bacon ranch. My friends and I were wandering the East Village in search of a post-dinner drink spot, when we happened upon The Copper Still. It was much more subdued than the crazy party happening at the college bar next door, but still had a substantial, yet calm, crowd. In fact, when we walked in, we were immediately able to grab a table, and we were also allowed to do so with committing to ordering only drinks. Our server was friendly and took excellent care of us. While the standard pub had a great custom cocktail list that utilized quality ingredients, I simply ordered a Black Cherry High Noon with Vodka. The bar had their happy hour specials listed on a blackboard, and they looked very reasonable with cocktails priced at $10, wines at $9, and more. Plus, the happy hour ran until 8:00 pm! So happy we stumbled into this spot. We were trying to watch a football game but our local college bar was too crowded. We finally found this spot after visiting a few others, and got a table for 7. Drink prices were much more reasonable compared to other places we were looking at. Food looked delicious and also was reasonably priced. Staff was super friendly and put the game on all TVs for us. They even had a live band in there who were wrapping up just as we came in, so we got to enjoy some awesome music. The pulled pork sandwich was great. I loved the She Hulk, but the TATOR TOTS WERE SO CRISPY! Piping hot too. So grateful for all the accommodating staff that got us everything we needed. read more

I've been to this bar a few times before, and always enjoyed it, but our experience tonight was so needlessly and ridiculously rude. My friend and I walked in and there was no one at the host stand. There is some bar style seating immediately behind the host stand, there were 3 people sitting on one side and 3 spare seats on the other side. I asked the people already sitting if they were expecting anyone and they said no, so we sat down. We were chatting for about 10 minutes, and one of the servers walked past, so I asked if we could order a drink. Her attitude was ridiculously rude and she said 'so you need a table? There is one over there.' pointing to a table across the room. Bearing in mind we are two people sitting on the side that could comfortably seat 4 people, I said that we didn't need a table, but I asked to clarify what it was she meant because I was genuinely unsure if she thought I was asking for a table. She said 'this is their table' pointing to the 3 people on the other side. I told her that we had asked them if we could sit, and they had said yes, and that we just wanted to order a drink. I was respectful the whole time. She then rudely replied 'what do you want?'....we ordered but then immediately changed our mind as she was so needlessly rude, and walked out. Came here since the place was big enough for our party of 11. They seated us at this bar table area with this big concrete pole between us so I couldn't see half of the table. We got a bunch of brunch entrees all of it was just okay. I got the fried chicken and waffles. The waffles were really good. The fried chicken was kinda soggy and needed more seasoning. My other friends said their entrees were okay but nothing special. I should have picked more of a restaurant type feel but it was our last brunch in the city so it was good to fill out belly's before we left. read more

We just made happy hour and half the drinks were pure sugar. The other half were pure ginger beer. We all had complaints. The waitress doesn't understand what a vegetarian is so asked me if I wanted "no sauce" instead of a vegetarian sauce bc most have bacon. They brought us all an " extra shot" for our beverages and it still taste like water. Part of me wants to walk out and say "you know better". Come if you're under 25 and just dgaf. 2 hours bottomless brunch for $25 pp plus entree. The mimosas definitely hit. It's not all orange juice; they aren't shy on the champagne. This is the kind of cozy neighborhood bar where you can while away the night catching up with a good friend without being rushed or disturbed...or without a drink for longer than 10 min. The Hot Toddy was the perfect antidote for a freezing night, but the wine offerings weren't as good. Then again, at $12 a glass, you can't expect too much. I had been meaning to try this place for a while but have to say I was a little disappointed. First off, I ordered a Maine Lunch IPA and received a 10 ounce pour instead of a pint. It wasn't listed as smaller pour on the menu and I wasn't warned by the bartender. When I asked about it later, they just said that that's the way they pour it with not much apology or remedy. I think it's really messed up that they charge $9 for a 10oz pour for a beer that's not super special and not a super high ABV. The food was also pretty mediocre. Frozen breaded buffalo wings with no effort to make homemade buffalo sauce or blue cheese. Even the fries were lacking. Undercooked and not crispy. This is a solid bar in the east village when you're looking for a chill night! Most bars in the east village are super loud and you can't have conversations... but this one has a very chill ambiance and they play great music. I think it would be a nice date spot. My friend and I got the spiked hot cider and it was delicious! The perfect drink for a 12 degree day in the city. The servers were really nice and attentive. This place is only getting a 2 star review because the fried chicken and the Brussel Sprouts are AMAZING! I came here for brunch with my husband, brother in law and my daughter. We ordered the chicken and waffles, eggs anyway, French toast and chicken with mashed potatoes. We added two sides of bacon and a side of Brussel sprouts. The French toast was good but the waffles were dry even with syrup and had an after taste. I ordered a Frose as my drink. One word of advice- DON'T ORDER THIS! It is so sweet, it takes like a watermelon kool aid slushy with no Rose'. I asked our waitress, Moogli (the only woman server), for something to make it stronger. She then said to me, "well you know I have to charge you for that." I never asked nor assumed that it would be free. I used to be a server in high school and college. I don't do discounts or the game to get free things. It was BEYOND INSULTING for her to say that to me. Is that something that she would have said to a non POC woman? I ordered a shot of tequila and I added it. It did nothing for the Frose. So I gave it to my husband and I was going to order another drink. I signaled for Moogli several times. She made eye contact, said she was coming then never did. Instead she sent over her colleague. Big NO NO! At this point, I felt dismissed and pawned off on someone else. Then I realized that the 2 sides of bacon we ordered never came. She never stopped to ask us how was the food or nothing. I signaled to her again as she was passing by. I asked about the bacon. I explained that I felt ignored as a customer and her excuse was that she was trying to avoid confusion. What confusion is there about making sure your customer is good? I will never come here again! A great lil East Village establishment that will have you singing Galway girl and drinking Guinness all night long! Ok not entirely true but I still agree with the first 6 words. My brother lives a block from this restaurant/bar and we come almost every time I visit him. The vibe is chill but fun. The staff are on top of it and are very attentive. In terms of the menu, the food selection is somewhat small but they only serve great food so I'm always more impressed when restaurants hone in on what they are masters at vs making everything in the kitchen sink. I LOVE their brussel sprouts side which is more like a meal than a side. My brother gets their sliders and fries at least once a week (see pic for proof). They might be mini, but they are mighty. 2nd Ave has a million different restaurants that you could choose to stop into, however, The Copper Still is not one that should be passed up. read more

Usually I will stick to the same drink unless I don't like it, and so I've only had one thing here and that is the Tiger Rose. At $11 ($10 hh), it's a steal. If you like sparkling wine and cocktails that are tasty but not overly fruity or strong, this one is for you. My friend got the Paloma, which he also stuck to, so I assume it did its job. Be warned though: it is a very pink drink! For a hot second we thought the waitress swapped our drinks because the Tiger Rose was yellow/gold and the Paloma was pink, but it was right. read more

I've now been to The Copper Still a couple of times so its high time to get a Yelp report brewing. If you are only now just hearing about the place, its been here for a little over a year to my knowledge and is located right near another favorite spot of mine The 13th Step. The actual plan for my friends and I was to go to the Step and catch up but it was super packed with football mayhem and I wanted to sit and my buddy had his girl with him and we all craved the chance to actually converse. Though they had a nice crowd in the pub, there were a couple of open tables so we secured one of the longer tables to enjoy some of their fare. I should mention that there is a ton of wonderful whiskey's and bourbons available at The Copper Still but I am more of the beer and wine drinker. My pals gal loves a nice glass of wine and was very satisfied with her choices. I went with a Stella while my buddy enjoyed a perfectly poured Guinness. My friends had already eaten so it would only be food for me and I decided on the Cordon Bleu Fritters. These were tasty but I felt could have offered a couple of more in the order since they are on the small side. I would get them again but if you plan on sharing this dish you will need a second appetizer in order to be more full. The last time I had stopped here I had the burger which was excellent. The space is comfortable and the atmosphere friendly with very kind wait staff and bartenders. There is a free WiFi to enjoy and be able to keep up with your Instagrams and Tweets or letting people know where you are on Facebook. Went with this guy I'm currently seeing. Pros: Cute decor. Nice, chill music, good food. Cons: Food takes a while to be prepared, longer than most places I've been to. Worst part: I found a hair stuck between two of the sliders I ordered. This was after I had already eaten one. They had a $2 special for pulled pork sliders and I ordered 3. I'm an Asian woman with completely black hair. The hair I pulled out was blonde with a little brunette. It was gross. They ended up remaking all 3 for me and took it off the bill. Had always been wanting to check this place out, and came here with 2 friends for brunch. It was around 1pm and there were people there but no wait for a table which is always nice. The server was very sweet , a little forgetful but no big deal. The food was decent, definitely not bad but not the best brunch I've had in the city. The Bloody Mary was really good and definitely worth it for 9 dollars. I would come back here for bottomless brunch for sure though, only 20 dollars for bottomless mimosas or Bloody Mary's!! They also have food happy hour deals and the French fries looked really yummy so will come back and try those with drinks one time read more

Solid, straight forward pub food in a friendly atmosphere. We came during the holidays so the neighborhood was calm, I can't speak to how the place is usually. We ordered a range of things, some of which came out room temperature, but overall the food left us full and satisfied. I ordered the meatballs with tomato sauce, baked cheese on top, and some bread. The meatballs were tender, cooked and seasoned well. The sauce was simple and tasty, The deviled eggs are heavy on the mustard but not bad, and you get six, a generous portion. The steak sandwich with fries is skippable, it needs something to add moisture, the boy opted for steak sauce. I thought the meat put up a bit more of a fight to be chewed than it should have. The fried chicken and mashed potatoes with bacon gravy was my favorite menu item. Crispy, flavorful, tender fried chicken smothered in a fantastic gravy. I'd order this again. Service was sweet. Had a really nice experience here! Was looking for a happy hour spot to meet a friend in the East Village and The Copper Still fit the bill (note: there is a separate Chelsea location too). When I arrived on a Wed at 5:30, it was not crowded at all. The bartender (who seemed to be the only staff there) welcomed me and I chose a table in the front outdoor section. I liked the setup of this section, as it was under a cover and separated from the sidewalk so folks aren't walking right by you, but still fully outdoors. Despite it getting busy, the bartender/server was very attentive and helpful. I asked for a martini type drink and he suggested the Antioxidant, which sounded strange, but was delicious and actually on the Happy Hour menu. For food, I got two of the happy hour pulled pork sliders, while my friend got the pulled pork sandwich off the regular menu. It felt like we both got the same amount of food, but the happy hour deal cut my price in half. We split some fries, which were delicious - I really liked the ranch sauce. I couldn't stop eating the fries because of the sauce! As it got darker, the bartender/server turned on the lights, making the atmosphere more festive. It never got too crowded and we felt we were taken care of - overall a pleasant experience. Would highly recommend The Copper Still as a solid happy hour option in the East Village. read more

Greats: hand cut fries, deep fried brussel sprouts in balsamic, and the service was spot on fast and friendly. We had a great experience here because between the fries and sprouts I was in heaven. Man, this place has been on my list for ages now. Though 2nd ave/Stuy Town bars tend to be bro-y and/or overcrowded, Copper Still manages to surf above it all. Though it's still on the loud side, the clientele is generally fairly chill and interested in a relatively more sophisticated night of drinking. The Copper Still claims (it doesn't *still* claim, it *does* claim for all of you clumsy readers out there) to be a gastropub in addition to being a whiskey bar, but I'm going to say whiskey is quite easily the main draw here. Plenty of spots serve a nice crop of craft beers these days, but far less can claim to have a standout whiskey selection. Copper Still has one of the best whiskey menus in the East Village, and the bartenders know their stuff. Came here for the first time about a week ago after it started to grow quite stale on my bookmarks list. The East Village is rife with good bars--and good bars for every occasion--so it's pretty easy to forget about any number of them. Got here at around 7 and the place was pretty busy--probably the happy hour crowd. That said, we weren't looking for food service, so our sights were only set on the bar. If you were worried, we did eventually find two seats. Drink-wise, Copper Still has a pretty impressive array of offerings. As stated, they've got a pretty good draft menu (like 8-10 beers) as well as some canned options. Wine and beer too, but...meh. Not here. Unless you don't like whiskey (and if you don't, how dare you?!??) and in that case, they've got wine and cocktails as well. Given that my visit was on a brisk night (and it wouldn't have really mattered, given my tastes), I went straight for the whiskey menu. I told the bartender a few different ryes that I like (I love rye and hate scotch, which most men find appalling--luckily I'm in a relationship so I don't need to be self-concscious about my drink preferences anymore) and he showed me a few options. I ended up getting 2oz. of the Willet Rye, which was yummy and really just what I needed. For my second drink I decided to get a little wild and I opted for bourbon (yes, that's my definition of "wild"). Again, the bartender helped me narrow down my choices until I landed on the Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon. I was once again impressed. Safe to say that the Copper Still has knowledgable folks working behind the bar. Overall, I had a lovely time at the Copper Still. The whiskey selection isn't nearly as good/interesting/expansive as places like Copper & Oak (must be something in that name, though), Flatiron Room or Maysville but it's still solid. Plus, the East Village doesn't boast many bars like this one, so it's very much needed in the neighborhood. A fantastic, chill spot to catch up with friends and savor them spirits. read more
