My friend and I decided to find a spot for a late afternoon martini. It also was the first day of really nice weekend weather in NYC. We ended up going to Due West. As we approached the entrance, we saw there was a line and right as we were about to join it, the bouncer said "Table for 2? I can get you right in!" Of course we were so grateful we were able to get a seat somewhere! The bar area was pretty packed with people standing but we got a table right by the window. Popped in for a drink at the bar and what a treat it was. I'm a bit of a drink snob and honestly why shouldn't I be! The cost for cocktails in this city is expensive so if I order an Old Fashioned and they don't have big rocks then I'm immediately unimpressed. This spot has it all with regards to a great cocktail. Old Fashioned was one of the best we've had and I also had a Last Word that had the perfect amount of icy goodness that is a result of a top notch bartender that shakes that baby up just right. Our guy, Abi was amazing. So friendly and helpful and we just wanted to sit at the bar all night for his drinks, smile and kind attitude. I don't usually write reviews, but my experience with the staff here was super offputting. Some friends and I wanted to wait in line for a table (group of 3). The manager said we can't wait in line and if we wanted to come in we had to stand at the bar (he wouldn't even let us put our name down for a table!). When we asked why we weren't allowed to wait in line for a table he said "Have you ever been to the West Village before?" in a super condescending tone. I can understand if they prioritize reservations over walk-ins, but the rude tone was really unnecessary and unprofessional. Have had several foiled attempts to get in here in the past, but I finally made it! I expected it to be super-bougie, but it turned out to be surprisingly non-pretentious. It was a Thursday night, so not super crowded, and though I'd secured a reservation, we actually were able to just waltz on it. I didn't even expect to make happy hour, but we did. We had 3 rounds of the Lychee 2.0, so, safe to say, that's our cocktail recommendation. I also tried the Happy Hour Beef Slider, very tasty, and my friend said the Fish Taco was worthy as well. We also got the Pepperoni Flatbread and the Fries, both 100% shareable sized and yummy. A little pricey for what they were, but not enough to make you angry because I've seen some TINY flatbreads, but the portions here were plentiful at least. The staff, particularly the man who claimed to be the owner, targeted my husband with blatant hostility, made up lies to justify refusing us service, and went out of his way to flag down police because he was scared. He lied and told the police, I, his wife, said he had a gun. lol. Like what? My husband would never. It was clear that we were being profiled and treated unfairly from the moment we walked in. My husband did absolutely nothing wrong, and yet the way we were approached with aggression, baseless accusations, and a complete disregard for our safety was disgusting. The entire situation escalated because this man wanted to make a point, not because of any real issue. He put my husband's life in danger simply because he felt threatened by his presence. The drinks were super cute. I had the Aporith, which was kinda too close to alcohol for me but cute nonetheless. I saw the pink soda can and wondered what it was. Maybe they mean if you're smashed when you eat it you won't complain, because this wasn't a smash burger. Served with a large basket of puny fries that would be easier to eat with a spoon than one's hands (the fries I received did not resemble the pictures posted here). The dish was so bad. I also ordered the chicken bites for $17(!) which were a riff on Japanese Karaage, using honey and some other harsh tasting seasoning. A decent portion but struck me as sloppy for the price. I can't begin to understand how this place was so crowded. They're just trying to get the average bill as high as possible while serving food that is completely mediocre. I love Due West. They were a little snobby with reservations during covid but overlooking that, it's a great spot in the West Village with awesome music, a friendly bouncer, and great cocktails. The crowd is mainly late 20s I would say which makes it a rare spot that's the perfect combination of fun but not fratty. They have an espresso martini on tap that I think is one of the best in the city, and at $16 comes in pretty far below the staggering $22 espresso martini at American Bar. Bouncer is unusually nice for a West Village spot. Bartenders are fast and kind and give good drink recommendations. Will def return. read more

I thought the beef sliders were perfectly cooked and just the right amount of cheesy fat to round out the burger. My friend loved her hush puppies. there are a few outside tables and for a Tuesday the inside was full by 6 o'clock for happy hour. This is not far from several different train stations so it's convenient for a meeting place.
