Finally decided to try this place with my family after hearing many good things about the chicken. My family and I all ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was juicy and tender and the waffles were perfectly fluffy. I ordered sweet potato fries as a side and they were good but cold (reason for 4 stars). Love the fact that there are many sides and sauces to choose from. I ordered the shack sauce. The cashier person said the shack sauce tastes just like the Cane's sauce and she was right. My family are all Cane's lovers so that was plus since I like the chicken more from the Cookshack. My husband also ordered a boujee margarita for us to share since we were told that it is very strong and it was...but very delicious! We will be back again soon! read more

I ordered the plain chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. I must say, those were the best sweet potato fries I'd ever had. Even my husband, who usually doesn't like them, thought they tasted good. The chicken was fresh tasting and the breading was light. I normally dislike cole slaw but whenever I try something new, I like to first taste it as the chef intended for me to eat it. I figured I could scrape the cole slaw off if I didn't like it. Well, the cole slaw stayed. I did end up taking off the pickles because I didn't like the crunchy texture. This is my second time coming here. The food first time was really good , but the service was not the best. I had to wait in a long line where only one of the cashiers was actually working behind the bar. There were 3 other girls at the other counter just talking instead of helping the long line and taking orders.. Cookshack was one of my top spots for chicken tendies, the chicken USED to be crispy, flavorful and fresh. Sadly Saturday night that isn't the case? Their margaritas used to be delicious too... I guess not on a Saturday night. I got the quarter rack ribs and 2 chicken tendies and a margarita. The ribs were just ok... fall off the bone but something was off. The chicken was soggy, full of oil (you could squeeze it out), the breading slid right off the moment you touched the chicken. The chicken was just disgusting. I have no idea if their water is just very hard but it tastes like minerals. The margarita (lime) since I asked for a swirl but didn't get it... the lime margarita was gross. I don't know if they use that hard water to make it, but it was literally undrinkable. Straight up. It tasted like minerals and Clorox, I wondered if they cleaned the machine and didn't rinse it all the way? No idea. then i had a sprite and the ice made it taste the same, undrinkable. Usually for 2 people it comes to close to 50 dollars which in the past we absolutely don't mind since the quality is amazing, but the quality has gone to the drain. I do mind 50 dollars when I can't eat my food because it's subpar, to top it off, I've been having the runs and stomach pains all night. Do not recommend, never going to this place again. We told the cashier we were first time customers and he happily recommended and explained each item on the menu. The food came out nice and fresh, amazing quality, and very tender and juicy! We were greeted by not one but two managers asking us how our meal was and if we needed anything. (Selma location) My son and I are absolutely obsessed with this place and their food! You can't go wrong with their chicken sandwich, the ribs are delicious as well. There isn't anything on the menu my son won't eat. The place is always nice and clean and plays good country jams for all my country music lovers. They have a bar and outside seating, the best part is the staff is always so friendly and seems like they genuinely like their job which is pretty hard to come by nowadays. I went out for Turkey sandwich at Firehouse sub and even though the internet was back up they were cash only. Disappointed, I wandered next door to The Cook Shack. I was not really in the mood for BBQ and expected to be underwhelmed. I was anything but. I got their new pulled rib sandwich which was amazing!! Went looking for BBQ but stumbled upon a newer chicken chain restaurant trying to maximize on the bird frenzy of the last few years. I decided to go with their Tuesday Special of the Fried Chicken Sandwich on Medium with Dragon Fries. It don't matter where I go fries are usually just the Robin to their Batman offering and here they tried to offer something a little more but to me it missed a golden opportunity to impress where other places just put fries on a plate so it won't look empty. They offered a couple different types of fries which are regular, sweet potato but I went with their so called spicy seasoned Dragon Fries. I know disappointment is the cousin to let down and that's what these fries were. Not sure what made these Dragon they were just heavily seasoned but they weren't spicy and it just looked they were extra seasoned salt and not much else. The chicken sandwich itself was not bad but also it wasn't better than other chain restaurants. The pickle was nice, the slaw was a nice touch but it wasn't creamy over outstanding nor did it stand out in flavor or depth. The sandwich looked to be double fried but the inside still retained is moist juicy interior. It was a nice size for the portion but speaking back to those fries. It was a rather meager portion of fries but then again it was a special today so that might be the reason. I loved the thickness of the chicken sandwich and also the flavor profile of the medium although if I had to compare it to maybe, Dave;s Medium their Medium was more spicy and hotter than this medium. This had a little less bark at medium. I want my hot chicken sandwich to be hot enough for me to take notice but this was a little on the milder side. This hot chicken was just a spicy version and not a Nashville Hot chicken type. To be honest it reminded me of the breading of KFC hot chicken sandwich but the color and flavor profile not as seasoned as KFC. There is a lot to like on this sandwich that is regularly priced at $13.99 without a drink but today was only $9.99. There is also a lot to be desired. I do go back for this at $9.99 but I wouldn't run to get this at $13.99. If I am continuing to make comparisons I'd probably prefer the Gold Feather Chicken Sandwich was closer to comparison to this offering. Having this sandwich by mistake instead of BBQ made feel maybe I expected a little too much the same way I feel about BBQ. Yelp doesn't give half starts but this place deserves it. 3.5 read more

It's best to say we were not disappointed and will absolutely be back. The staff was very helpful in explaining the menu and attentive in every way.
