My dysfunctional and dying computer was in his ICU for mere hours and we watched the entire process, asking questions but trying not to get in his way. Sure he has an abrupt manner-- he's from NYC. But I'm from NJ, so no big deal. We ended up with an new operating system, complete sweeps for shit, malware, and all the crazy stuff that had been happening stopped. Within 4 hours I went from terrified to ---- ready to hunker down and work with no more issues. Your first clue as to avoid this guy is the absolutely disorganized pigsty his business is. You'll need a tetanus shot before you go there. Second, while confirming our PC was dead, we asked him to look at our laptop which wasn't finding our internet and it needed a WIN 11 upgrade to the tune of $200. He then texted saying there wasn't enough RAM to run WIN 11 (4GB). Adding ram would be another $100.00. I said no, we don't want the extra GB. He told us to come pick the laptop up, without him resolving the initial problem. We went to pick it up and he shoved the laptop into my Wife's chest, we asked for our laptop case, he threw it at us and then slammed his buinesses door in our face! Such an unprofessional jerk. Man child yells, no talk. Paid $300 for a new battery. I took my computer elsewhere as an issue needed fixing for DJing. The new place, Synergy Tech Repair, fixed the issue said take it back to whoever put the battery in as there's an issue with the connection on battery side. Did so, yelling was all I got. A man child who could not fathom that he made a mistake or that what was done may have a problem. Nothing but yelling, how he was alive and working on computers before they were born, and wanted me to know, again all YELLING, that he had a house on Canyon Road plus. What an absolute man child. We brought a MacBook that would not startup to Steve and he said he could "probably" fix it for between $200 and $300 without losing the data on it. We left the laptop with him and communicated with him during the day via text (which he says he prefers). The texts consisted of re-providing the login password that we gave him when we dropped it off and then straightening him out when he got us confused with another client. He seemed annoyed with us in that we didn't respond to his texts immediately regarding a code that he said Apple sent us on our phone that he needed....which we never did. We paid him $100 for absolutely nothing but frustration. We subsequently made a Genius Bar appt at the Apple Store in Albuquerque. They fixed it while we waited, with no data loss....and it was free even though the computer was long out of warrantee. read more

This guy really knows computers. I brought my very sick one to him and after checking it out and going through all the possibilities, I decided to put it out of its misery. He explained everything to me clearly, we told jokes and laughed a lot. I asked questions, he answered them clearly and step by step. I was in his shop for a few hours as we figured out how bad it was and then as he set me up with my new one. I am very comfortable knowing that it comes with a warranty and if I have any problems or even questions, I now have someone to go to. I've brought him items that I thought were hopeless and after testing a disc and being patient with my "system" for managing passwords, he was honest with me about the chances of recovering data. As a customer, I had simple questions about my laptop. I spent an hour (which I ultimately paid for but shouldn't have) being SCREAMED at by this business owner. Clearly, his frustration was being channeled, but that wasn't what I came in for! He actually held my credit card until HE was done ranting (literally held hostage until he was satisfied with what he had to say... Only by my placating the situation did the elevated situation come down - very awkward - I left distraught and teary-eyed as I felt so off guard and verbally abused). This review is not intended to disparage The Computer Guru, Steven Salemi's technical expertise, but to caution others about his temper, his attitude towards customers and his behaviour. I took an offbrand miniPC to him to install windows 11. Each time I tried to describe my situation, he interrupted me to tell me how mistaken I was and how he could fix anything. When it became clear to me he wasn't listening and his only intent was to push his skills with computers, I told him I could not work with him. At which point, he unleashed a stream of invectives about my education and my stupidity, and proceeded to tell me to get the f*ck out of his store. I thought he was going to have a heart attack. my initial encounter with the owner of Computer Guru appeared to go smoothly. I brought in a dell computer to have some data removed and put on a thumb drive. This went well until it did not. When I returned home with my laptop that I need to return to the college I borrowed it from, hence the need to retrieve my data. The computer did not open. I reached out to share this new development. I was provided a list of reasons that amounted to "things die." that is the short version of his responses. Here is a longer version, one of many: "Do know that computers CAN die at any time for any reason, that only an existing factory warranty can cover such failures, that the file copy work i did was ABSOLUTELY non-destructive, and that even if you have to send it back dead, there is no conceivable justification for holding you (financially) responsible for repairing or replacing it. Remember: it is just an old, inexpensive Windows PC, it is nothing particularly precious." All well and good. Our conversations continued as I indicated to him that I would like to return the computer in good working order, as it was when I initially brought it in for the data retrieval. I went in Thursday and he tested the power cord and said it was the cord but he didn't have a compatible cord to try out. So we left it with me returning Saturday, today to look at the actual computer . I simply thought something may have gone astray in the retrieval process and simply taking a look could determine this. The saga worsened when I arrived today. I explained that the cord worked on a different dell machine and that perhaps it wasn't the cord after all. I then used the expression that I would just like the computer to "come back to life". This unknowingly set off an emotional storm and he began yelling at me. Repeatedly yelling at the top of his lungs how computers die. "The definition of death is that something is working and then it is not." To paraphrase his remarks. He continues yelling at me accusing me of asking him to work for free. I previously paid him 150.00 in cash for the initial service. I explained in a non yelling voice that I simply wanted him to take a look to see if anything had gone astray in the retrieval process. It seemed a very reasonable request. But to the Computer Guru, not so at all. For over five minutes this man yelled at me saying how I did not do as he had instructed as if I were his child. In his mind who knows what was going on. And the final straw I depart his business and forgot my purse inside. I returned to get the purse and he begins yelling again following me out to my car, calling me a "big liar " "you said you were going to leave a review !" I replied that I just had not gotten to it. This man sold me a computer that locked me out, and now doesn't work. I have no receipt, no store credit and he will not honor the six month warrantee on the same day of purchase. Now I have to take him to small claims court. I will win. All he did was berate me, call me names, insult me, and complain about the price of the computer I bought and how little profit he made. Attached are actual texts from him just a few hours after purchase. He is abusive, angry, dishonest, disrespectful and corrupt. He clearly has mental health issues, a personality disorder and anger management problems. Stay far far away from this man. Go elsewhere. I'd have left zero stars if I could have. This was the worst customer experience of my life. I went in to purchase a laptop computer. At first, the owner was kind and helpful. I asked him to install a partition for an extra fee which he said would take an hour. Five hours later the work was not done and the man said it wasn't possible. Now here's where things get really bad: at this point the man became irate, started shouting at me at close range, insulting me, and making sexist comments. I asked him to lower his voice repeatedly and he said he was allowed to do whatever he wanted to in his shop. He laughed when I told him I did not feel safe with him yelling and stomping around like that and grabbed my things to go. I later received a long string of text messages from the owner explaining that he doesn't care about the safety of his patrons only that they pay him. In these messages he included a long string of insults including calling me neurotic, idiotic and clueless. I've included the screen shot from that conversion in case anyone thinks I'm overreacting. Please for your own well being do but support this man or his business. He doesn't care about how he treats his customers and will verbally abuse you in person and via text as you can tell from the may other reviews referencing verbal abuse. I left a review at another site a couple years ago and it seems to have vanished, and its worth repeating so people stay away from this fruit loop. I drove in the driveway one day, past the "OPEN" sign in the window, and found the Guru working on his motorcycle in back. I got out, told him I my battery was stuck on my laptop and I needed to replace it. He kindly gave me some advice on getting it out, and I sat down near where he was working to see if I could get it out. He seemed super nice and I was really grateful. I remember thinking, I am going to come back to this place. But I made the mistake of asking too many questions, and suddenly he went full-on psycho nut job on me. He starts screaming "cant you see I'm doing something here" and some rubbish about being closed. I quickly started moving toward my van because he was very aggressive. I said "I'm sorry....b-b-but your sign says open" and he started coming toward me again screaming to get the f*** out of there. I got in my car and said something to him and he blew a fuse, ran over to my passenger window and shoved his head in screaming at me. Well, he didn't see my 80lb dog in the back of the van, and my dog lunged for his face. Fortunately he pulled his red, stupid, screaming face out in time and I pulled out quickly, laughing at him. He told him to "go back to where he came from" in spite of the fact that my boyfriend's family has been in New Mexico for hundreds of years on the Spanish side and thousands of years on the Native American side. I had him do some work a year ago, and returned with questions, and to pick up a CD or password for the software upgrade he provided. Apparently he forgot to take his meds that morning- after showing him my invoice for $300.00 and asking one question he begins to scream that I should get out and off of his property.. I am standing there not believing what I am witnessing, and then I get it: it is true. He continues to scream get out, get off my property, I will call the police- and slams the door behind me. Steven fully informs me about the computer world so that I can make a wise buying decision. He also moves all the information from my old computer to a new one without any additional charge. In addition, he follows up after the sale/service to make sure everything has worked out for me and invites me to ask him any questions.
