Mikel was kind enough to expedite service to my computer. The problem was not fixed. He offered to come to my house if it still wasn't working upon connecting to my home internet. It wasn't working, and I was in a big hurry because in the process of moving and purchasing an old fixer upper. I left a message with Dotfoil and then called Xfinity. The second time I tried Dotfoil...twice disappointed. I asked if I could bring a laptop, it has a rubber piece on the outside that needs replacing, it has a glue back that sticks on...nothing internal. I even asked if I could email a photo so they could order the part. I explained I don't have a backup computer and am running a business daily. BE AWARE - I've used Dot Foil for years and in the past - LOVED them. Post Covid the business was sold to an employee and things have changed. I NEVER write poor reviews EVER. And if you're ok with leaving your computer somewhere where you will have no communication - no receptionist or other employees (just owner), no open business hours, and you're not in a hurry to get your computer back - try them out. But be aware this is not your typical business practice. Details below: - This business does not have open office hours - once the computer has been dropped off by appointment, there is no way to walk in and ask any further questions or concerns - doors are locked. - If you leave your computer there and need to get in touch with them its absolutely impossible to get in touch with anyone. They do not have a receptionist who answers calls or returns calls. You are told to leave one message and only one, and they will get back to you. Good luck with that. -The date you were told the computer would be ready - its never ready when they say it will be ready which ok I get it - BUT CALL THAT DAY to communicate with your client let them know what going on rather then calling 5 days past the date it was supposed to be ready, to then tell them it will be another 4 days. -Do you have a question about something they did to your computer once you get it back? You leave a message - three weeks later, still no call back....I'm still waiting.... read more

After my HD crashed on my older MacBook Pro, I took it to Dotfoil to see if my info could be salvaged. The techs at Dotfoil were unable to assist, as the HD was too compromised. Needing a laptop for my business, I purchased a refurbished 13" MacBook Pro from Dotfoil in September of '22. From the start, I had problems with the laptop shutting down intermittently, and not holding a charge. I took the laptop back to Dotfoil for evaluation and repair. I had insisted it was the battery was the source of the issue. The techs ran diagnostics and said there was nothing wrong with the battery, and hd "corrected" the issue by opening the case, unplugging the battery, and therefore "reset" the battery. I was also instructed not to overcharge the battery, nor let the system battery power drop below 20% (??!!). Soon after, the system started doing the same thing. As I was preparing my taxes for the '22 year, the system repeated the shutdown issue again several times, and not being to reboot or power on until 12-24 hours each occurrence. Frustrated, I took the System back to Dotfoil, only to be told I should have exchanged it within the sales warranty period, and there was nothing wrong with the battery. I then took the laptop to Synergy Tech to check/replace the battery. They immediately reported the battery was swollen and was corrupted. They replaced the battery and called me to pick up the laptop and give it a go. To this day (4/23), I have not had a single issue with the system. Please beware of the "service" offered into looking into a problem with your computers, by Dotfoil. They were obviously in err With their diagnosis, and unable to locate and fix the issue in a computer they sold me. Let alone not standing by their warranty, they were very unconcerned with the issue. It looks like they have since shut down their store/shop, and are only doing call out service. Good riddance. I will not use the unprofessional and shoddy business practices of Dotfoil, and will refer my clients to either the Apple Store in ABQ, or Synergy Tech, for battery and diagnostic PROFESSIONAL service. read more

When I failed to upgrade my Mac OS, Mykal of Dotfoil came to the rescue. He diagnosed a battery problem with my laptop and gave me options for a resolution. Unfortunately we agreed it had reached the end of its life, but Mykal got it running so I have time to research and order a replacement. I think Dotfoil's rates are reasonable for the expert computer service the company delivers. I would strongly recommend the company to anyone needing assistance. read more

If you want to be ripped off this is the place. They charged me $166 for labor just to install a new battery on my MacBook (the overall cost including the cost of the battery was $375). You would expect great service for this money but they did not even bother to call me back when the laptop was ready even though they promised to. I had to call them myself at the end of the day. I needed the laptop for work urgently and it sat there for 3 hours after their 5 minutes of work. P.S. My friends told me that they got their battery replaced for no service fee at Synergy Tech next door. read more

I took my iPhone XS to Dotfoil on St. Michaels for repair. I was very frustrated because my power cable was not connecting, and I thought I needed to have the iPhone connector jack replaced and that the repair would be expensive. All the technicians were out but a very helpful young man (whose name I neglected to get) took a look at the phone. He thought lint or dirt had got into the connector jack. He removed lint with some tweezers in a few seconds and now my phone connects perfectly! Dotfoil did not charge for this service even though I offered to pay. My experience rated 5 stars for first rate service, help and customer focus. I won't hesitate to go back to Dotfoil next time and I strongly recommend Dotfoil's services to all. read more

My beloved computer did an unrelenting blue screen. I called around for tech help getting my documents from my blue screen computer to my new computer. Dotfoil was clear when I asked questions, and their quoted price was $200 less costly than another service I called. I'm mobility challenged, so a friend took my computers to them. In less time than I expected the transfer was done and my old solid state hard drive had been given an enclosure so I could use it as a backup. (a couple of days, not a couple of hours) The enclosure cost $16 more than the quoted price, which was great. Happiness! And, they were friendly and attentive when I needed to call. read more

They are honest, friendly, and extremely reliable. They also put customer satisfaction ahead of making $... I recently called to discuss hiring them to fix our small business network and instead of taking the job, Tom talked me through the process of installing a new system by myself that would be more reliable and cheaper than hiring them to come troubleshoot the issue. We saved close to $500 because he cared enough about customer service to turn down a job and tell me the simple way rather than charge me. There are several issues with this business. 1. There's always a wait of at least 3 days to get your computer repaired. 5 days is common, a week is more rare, but does happen. ' 2. In addition to Mac's (you can buy same models for less, elsewhere in town, btw), they sell Dell's, that they claim are brand-new from the factory, but had a small glitch, so they're sold as factory seconds, at a discount. Let me tell you, these are far from new. Mine died after 3 years. It was clearly an old, refurbished unit, that had reached the end of its lifespan. DO NOT BUY these Dells, or any other brand other than Apple, at this store. These are a scam. 3. Over the years, I've been given conflicting info on the proper care and operation of computers I've bought there, between the front-desk sales guy, and the techs in back. One of the technicians even told me to not listen to the front-desk guy (who handles customer svce. for people bringing their computers in for repair), because he doesn't know what he's talking about! Go figure. This is not the only place in Santa Fe to buy Macs, nor the only place that repairs them. Anyplace is better than this! read more

I had a popup on my Mac that would not allow me to get online. After trying and trying myself to fix it, I went to Dotfoil Computers. When I entered the store there was one person ahead of me in line, but she was helped and gone within two minutes. A very nice man helped me. He had my computer fixed in less than a minute, and then would not charge me for it! He even showed me how to fix it myself if the popup ever occurred again. I highly recommend this computer store. My 2013-model 27" iMac pooped out -- hard drive failure. There's no Apple Store in Santa Fe, and in any case I don't much like the glitz and pretension of Apple Stores, so after looking at Yelp reviews I went to Dotfoil. They took it in, with a small deposit, and told me that the current workload might mean a three-day wait before they got around to it. In fact turnaround was only two days. I got a call from the tech explaining that the "fusion drive" was a goner, which I'd figured out when I tried to baby the thing back to life myself, with an estimate of the cost to replace it. They asked for my password, which I didn't have to give them because I had several full backups and could treat the new disk as a new iMac. But they will ask for it in cases like this, legitimately, to try to recover what they can from the system. Anyway, I picked up the computer, it works fine, the price is what they said it would be, I restored from backup* and all is well. I'm a satisfied customer. (I reserve five stars for above-and-beyond performance which they had no chance to do.) ----------------------------------------- * In the midst of restoring my system from a bootable-clone backup, the external HD crapped out. Annoying, but I simply went with another backup, my up-to-date Time Machine, and that worked. So I didn't have to resort to my third backup, to the Cloud via CrashPlan. Through a series of mishaps that would have been comical if not so sad, I basically destroyed my hard drive in my Gateway all-in-one over the weekend. But I found these reviews--thank you!--and made an online appt with dotfoil for first thing Monday morning (9:30). I've lived in Santa Fe for 13 years and "rapid" here is anything that happens within several weeks, so I was stunned that I could expedite the order ($100 well spent), get a call from a technician (Anthony) within a half-hour saying he had started working on it, a call in about an hour more with the diagnosis (dead drive). I took in an external drive with backup data, and these guys had me up and running by the end of the day. The restore was so perfect and so fast that I began to disbelieve that I ever had a problem. Great work, Dotfoil. Professional (unusual in SF), competent (hard to find), friendly and efficient (impossible to find!). The last time I had a computer problem and took it somewhere else, my experience was exactly the opposite of the dotfoil experience. read more

I dropped my MacBookPro and it took a year for problems with the monitor to kick in. The machine was still young so they recc. a new clam shell. They explained how it can take a year for a hard fall to manifest. 3 years later machine is still very happy. Staff is super knowledgeable, they explain everything clearly up front and afterwards, turn around is amazingly fast so you are not without your machine for long. I was hesitant to go here because of the mixed reviews but they are the authorized Mac repair center so I took a chance. That was a Big Mistake. The older gentleman at the repair desk was Incredibly rude and demeaning. Classic arrogance and Tech Dude "you don't know anything" attitude. The issue was my iCloud account not properly syncing on my two devices. The guy messed with my phone for about 10 minutes and succeeded in making it impossible for me to get my Calendar on my phone. What shows up now is a blank calendar with only the US Holidays and none of my business and social appointments. When I pointed this out to him he said it would cost $110 per hour to get it to a tech and the wait was 3 days. I ended up having to got o Albuquerque to the Apple Store to get it fixed. My computer crashed. When my IT guy wasn't able to find the problem, I took my iMac to Dot Foil. The technician, Gabe, ran diagnostics on the computer and found that the problem was in the motherboard. He ordered the new part and now my computer runs like new. What I appreciated the most from my Dot Foil experience was my interactions with Gabe, He patiently explained what the problem was and described the part that malfunctioned in a way that a non tech person like me could clearly understand. Went in two weeks back to get a version of software on a Bootable drive. When I finally went to install it was a version that was useless to me. Went back to ask them why they sold me a version of software useless for what I had asked for. Was greeted by a dismissive owner or manager who not only didn't right the situation, but offered to charge me another $110 for what I could easily have done myself provided they sold me what I had originally asked for. I'm sure Dot Foil makes a killing ripping off people in the town who know nothing about computers. Wonder doing business with local business. This place is a rip off. I had a friend that took two computers here after they had been diagnosed by apple in alb. And these clowns said all of these other things were wrong with them when they checked them. Once my friend mentioned what the Apple Store in alb had said they changed there tune. But needless to say it still cost him a arm and a leg to get them fixed. And yes he got them fixed here because apple did not have the parts to fix them since they are an older model. After he got the computer back all of a sudden the disc drive didn't work. It seem that these clowns had messed it up or replaced it with a bad one when they fixed the problem the first time. And they conveniently had a refurbished one just laying around when my friend asked them to check out the disc drive. KINDA OF SUSPICIOUS TO ME. So needless to say I will never take my computer to them or for that matter recommend them to any one. If you have a problem go to apple in alb and and if they can let them fix your computer in the long run it is a hell of a lot cheaper then this place. They told me the optical drive on my computer was bad & it was cheaper to buy an external drive (from them, of course) than fix it. Which I did and it lasted 4 months. It turns out that the optical drive was fine all along. So I got lied to, had to spend more $$ and they are suppose to be apple certified. I am disabled so I had them send out someone to fix my internet. The man they sent was older and very polite. He fixed it quickly and explained what he did so I could understand what I was paying for. He called in my credit card to their office. The charge did not show up after a few days so I called to find out what was wrong. The woman said she could not find any work for me so she took my name and the day they did the work and my card number and said she would call back. I never heard back but two days later the charge showed up twice. I called my credit card company and they wiped off one of the charges. Not sure if this company is dishonest or just bad but I won't use them again. read more

I paid the diagnostic fee & nothing else -- but given that I had to then go to another repair store (one I really trust in Abq & that stuck with it until they were able to replicate the issue I was having & then diagnose & fix it), I really felt ripped off that I paid for absolutely nothing. A few months ago, my late 2013 27" IMac's hinge mechanism that allowed it to swivel broke. After contacting Apple they told me that the closest place that had an apple-approved repair site was Dot Foil in Santa Fe. Luckily I had apple care and it would take care of it all, the only catch was that would have to drive the 1-2 hours to drop it off, then pick it up the next day. I have a pretty tight 9-5 and the time off was hard for me to get. Despite the difficulty, I was able to make it to Santa Fe in time to drop it off. I had read so pretty bad reviews on Yelp and wasn't sure what to expect. The older clerk guy was pretty curt and carried an air of that standard IT guy superiority complex, probably after years of having to deal with ignorant customers. I tried to explain my tight schedule and he just didn't seem to care. This was all after having to wait in an empty store for service for a good while. With that said, the customers service was lacking but the timeliness with which my computer was repaired made up for any uneasy mess. I just hope Apple opens a store in Santa Fe soon!! read more

Overpriced. The tech staff appears incapable of communicating. They won't listen. They don't follow their own paperwork trail, mess it up, and then charge another $110/hr fee. The worst customer service I've experienced in 30 years of computer people. Not open on Saturday. Promise to call and then don't. Repeated calls go unanswered. They are understaffed, maybe, and perhaps overworked. I know they are overpaid. Two hours to replace a hard drive? Crazy. Did I mention they won't listen to the problem description? And after their work failed, they blame the customer, so I guess there is no guarantee of the job, since returning to get it done right (after paying nearly $400) is treated as a new job. Apple needs to de-authorize these folks. Never again. I'll drive to ABQ before I ever return to Dotfoil. They apparently think they have a monopoly and don't need to listen or do competent, efficient work. I've had enough of them -- sad, too, because I used to go out of my way to patronize them, being local. Could have bought cheaper online, but I went to Dotfoil. I appreciate that they recycle batteries, but that doesn't excuse their lack of customer service, refusal to listen, and overpriced "service." read more
