Parking in the shared lot at Manoa Marketplace is free! I walked into the shop which is to the right of Safeway... I hadn't noticed it before, but it's quite spacious inside! There were several people at the tables. They were working on their laptops or chatting with others. The cashier was knowledgeable. When I asked for a non-dairy matcha latte, she asked if I wanted it iced - yes please! She said that the matcha powder has some dairy in it... oh... I'll take a chance... LOL! I've been coming to this store for more than 5 years and my all time favorite drink is the iced caramel latte. It's almost always done right. This review is for the matcha since it was my first time trying it. It was afternoon and I was next door at Safeway and had heard really good things about the matcha at coffee bean. I'm kind of picky about matcha and was a bit skeptical about how good the quality would be since it's more of a coffee place. But I was so surprised about how good it was! I saw a TikTok recommended the iced matcha latte with oat milk and ube cold foam. 10/10. No grittiness, no bitterness, smooth and great combo with the ube. Definitely on the sweet side, for those that want a more bitter or unsweetened matcha this one is not for you, although the ube definitely gave it a lot of the sweetness. Coffee bean is a staple in Manoa marketplace and I rarely try new things but I'm glad I tried this today. Ambiance: lots of tables, single bathroom for customers only. Outdoor tables as well. CBTL is a great alternative to the "S" coffee place that's so prevalent. I used to come here often years ago when I was working and had meetings in Manoa, but that was over 8 years ago. Today I was picking up some breakfast and lattes for my daughter and SIL before going over to visit (and play with my granddaughter) so decided to stop here for them and to get some. coffee cake. There weren't that many people do I thought it would be fairly quick, but for some reason it took a while to get the orders done, although it was probably only about 15 minutes. The staff was very friendly and the "custom" order for my cappuccino was perfect. It's definitely a great place and spacious as well, with lots of parking in the Manoa Marketplace. read more

I'm a Starbucks person, but it's good to switch it up every once in a while I love that they do drinks like piña cola and lava flow. Lately, I've been into their Valencia Orange Cream Cold Brew. I love that cold brew tea with the cream on the top. Recently, someone posted their Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf flask with the Tokidoki design on it. I was looking everywhere for it. I am just devastated this location has closed. It gets me through every trip home to visit my parents, especially when my dad was sick and dying during the holidays. I come at least once a day! I've donated so many books here and am sad to see that library for our old next door neighbor gone too. It was always busy, odd that you closed. I think this is the largest Coffee Bean & Tea that I've been to. Very nice and cozy feeling. They even have a mini library dedicated in memory to a former patron. Wailea took my order. Still my favorite coffee bean to visit and the staff is always so friendly. Problem now though is its drinks quality have become inconsistent. I'll order a chai tea latte and it used to be normal that you would get a scoop of vanilla powder. Now though, I have to specifically say I want vanilla powder for it to be used. Also they don't seem to offer stamp cards anymore though I do see it at the register. I asked the cashier the other day for a stamp card and she nodded yes, then didn't give it. This is my first review, which I had to leave cause the way I was treated was that terrible. I came in on an afternoon and as soon as I come in I am immediately interrogated by a middle aged woman wearing a gold necklace who works there. She first talks about how the wifi is down then proceeds her interrogation, asking if we were going to buy something and explaining their guidelines to us. Her demeanor and the way in which she spoke to us was unacceptable and rude. She then went to the counter and made fun of us with her coworker because we were unaware the bathroom was closed. Our plans were to stay and study but we just grabbed my things and left to Starbucks across the street instead. Used to love this place and worked there for a year. Sad to see it in this state. Take your business to Starbucks or just pray that Jabba the Hutt isn't working that day. read more

I rarely go here. I was waiting for the Rocky Horror Picture Show on Halloween and dropped in here. I saw the regular pumpkin latte was only $4. I was surprised and ordered it. It was really only $4 plus tax. And it was amazing! Move over Starbucks, there's a new PSL siren in town and it's here at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. So ono! Why only 4 stars? I don't go to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf much anymore and certainly only been in the Manoa Marketplace locale a few times. It has been awhile since I've patronized this store but ordered a Vanilla Ice Blended. TCBTL is my preferred coffee franchise...think they have some of the better ice blended (i.e. coffee milkshakes) around, to include those from any specialty coffee shop. Yes, today in the Valley, it was wet, windy, and smoky - there was a house fire on a side street (Kanu) just off Lowrey Ave. But regardless of the semi-wintertime weather (for Hawaii anyway) I needed to be refreshed and it was the usual good ice blended. Ample parking available in the lot. Store was nice and fairly clean...sat at the counter. read more

Great study spot! Great location! Good flavored coffee drinks! There used to be a barista named Cody who was very friendly and attentive to my orders. He remembered a few of my favorite drinks and always offered if I wanted them. Not sure if he still works there but he was a good barista. Cody, if you're reading this, this is a shoutout to you! Downside of this place is the seats are limited since it is a tiny coffee place. But there is a Starbucks across the street so you can always go there if Coffee Bean is full. Also, this place closes slightly earlier at 9:30 so you can't do late night studying here. read more

I've been to 6 CBTL on the island, and this location is my favorite. I've gone multiple times a month for a few years, and their quality and service is consistently good. They also have a faster speed of service compared to the others in the area. Plenty of available parking. They have deals on Mondays and Thursdays, I recommend following their Instagram to stay up to date on them. Along with having coffee shop staples, (lattes, drip coffee, etc.), they have some local favorites such as li hing lemonade and pineapple iced blended (similar to smoothies). I been coming back to this CBTL recently and I mostly been having a pleasant time until recently. My complaints from my previous update still stands (in fact, it's worse now): the tables are still being used by non-patrons and sometimes there are no seats as a result. This is not as big of a deal for me. I'm used to it. My recent problem which is preventing me from adding the star back is disgruntled employees. One in particular. First of all, the customer service in general is AWESOME. My drinks are made well and the food is still pretty good (though I miss the red velvet donuts). The employees are cordial, friendly, and provide the services anyone would expect... except for this one employee. The first interaction I had with him, he didn't say a single word to me. No prompt. No "what kind of milk..." or even upselling me on the larger drink. I just told him what I wanted, paid and got my stamp card stamped. It was weird. I figured he was having a bad day. I get it. This latest interaction was nearly identical to the first one, which now I'm thinking "wow, is it me?" I thought it was a little rude, to be honest. Again, I dismissed it... then I observed him realizing that the two other employees were not there making the drinks for whatever reason and had to actually make my drink, too. He done so, and I said "thank you" in a more direct manner, hoping I get some reciprocation for you know.. being a customer. As I sat down to get ready to read my book, I took a sip of my drink and was immediately met with the taste of just ice coffee and 2% milk. I ordered something that was not this drink. Now I know the typical response is to just go back to the counter and ask for my drink to be remade. I know this... easier said than done for an introverted veteran with service-connected anxiety. I have to pick and choose my fights. I just learned that small things like coffee are not a big deal to make a fuss over BUT the principle of receiving what I ordered and the concept of customer service is a big deal to me. I won't be quiet about that. Learn your trade, and be tactful with your customers. I work in a field where physical violence can result from bad customer service. I have to be professional and cordial regardless of how they feel as well as how bad of day I'm having. Y'all make coffee. Regardless of how much of a bad day you're having, you either don't show that to your customers or leave! Call out sick or don't come in. One person can ruin the experience for everyone else. Why be that person? Anyway, I was not a fan of this interaction and I hope to see a lot less of it in the future. read more

Stopped in to get a coffee on a Sunday morning and I was startled to realize that I've unwittingly become a Starbucks minion. I realized this when: 1. I wasn't able to preorder my drink on my phone and stroll in to pick it up at my leisure. 2. I stepped to the counter and was unable to order a drink. I have my go-to Starbucks orders that I recite without thought: venti, bold brew with a little ice or venti nonfat latte extra hot (for the mrs) or trenta strawberry acai refresher, little ice (again for the mrs). Instead, I found myself trying to decode their menu board: large? ice blended? 3. I got no stars for my order. In the end, I managed to get my morning joe and would definitely be open to coming back and trying some of their java offerings. This particular location is very convenient (located in the Manoa Marketplace; lots of parking). Very pleasant staff. Current COVID protocols have eliminated indoor seating and the milk/creamer/sugar station. read more

Beware: This place just turned dog-UNfriendly. I usually stop by with my dog for coffee/tea and a pup cup. We never stay to eat/drink inside but we wait politely by the counter for our order, along with the two-legged customers. Today the woman behind the counter told me that my dog and I needed to wait outside. I told them their Yelp page says they're dog-friendly. She said not anymore. (As of this review, it still says dogs allowed.) She said there had been complaints and fights between customers and "dog hair on the floor." She was polite and not mean about it, which I appreciated. But it's a bummer to be treated like a second-class citizen at a place you regularly visit. And I'm disappointed they're choosing the dog haters over people like us. Also, I'm not sure how the "wait outside for your order" thing is supposed to work. This time my hubby was with me and could wait outside with our dog. But when it's just me and my pup? The pick-up counter is all the way on the inside and hidden from external view. How will I know when my drink is ready? I'm still going to have to bring my dog in to grab my order. If you guessed - The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf...........you've hit PAY-DIRT! Lol! I must say, I do like this CB&TL location in the Manoa Marketplace as the coffee shop is clean, pretty spacious with a lot of tables & chairs should you decide to sit and do some work, or perhaps have a conversation with your buddy over drinks. I came here for a dark coffee to top off my lunch, & my friend got an ice coffee. Service was efficient, and the drinks were on point. If I didn't have such a big lunch today, I might have "investigated" and report back to you folks about the baked items for dessert..........but since I didn't sample any of the desserts.......... the best I can do for your folks is at least take some pics of the baked goods, so you folks can drool over them! The lady tried to charge me $1.47 for three waters I was like OK that's all right but a little weird then I open my Apple Pay to go pay for those waters and the machine doesn't work. I a second time it doesn't work then we try another machine. It doesn't work they the lady says OK I'll give you the waters this time for free but next time bring your credit card. I thought that was extremely rude and I could've just gone to Starbucks and get free water but the coffee bean tea thing was way closer. I sometimes switch between Starbucks and Coffee Bean depending on which locations looks busier. Coffee Bean has seating available now which is a big plus over Starbucks, and they seem to have a better selection of food. This location is inside of Manoa Shopping Center near Safeway. There's usually lots available parking. Friendly customer service, similarly to Starbucks they seem to be trained to remember your name and order which adds a nice and friendly touch. read more
