We always see this place whenever we go to Target. I was craving a philly cheesesteak one night and knew exactly where to go. I got the king size motown philly, it's the large with 50% more meat. Came out to around $20 which I felt was reasonable, but if I wasn't starving I'd go with the standard large. The motown is the standard cheesesteak but with mushrooms. It was cooked well and everything was together with melted cheese. Cashiers were nice and the interior is very similar to other cheese steak shop chains. Can't go wrong with a cheesesteak from here, I would highly recommend just getting a large so you aren't disappointed! read more

We drove all the way up there on Friday afternoon, in rush hour traffic from El Cerrito to get there because I was craving some Philly cheese steak! Parking was easy... right next to Target! Prompt service for Alexa pick up of a classic Philly cheesesteak with everything large, and a hoagie large with no cheese and no onions along with sweet potato fries and curly fries, which were delicious! The portions were a little light in terms of meat ( gotta order the "king" size next time) in the sandwiches, but they were still really good and flavorful ! Management here has been bad since i was 17 years old!!! When i first got my license id come here and she was super rude and i am 26 and just had an encounter with her a few months back. They got my order wrong (King size) but said they will only replace it with a regular size. Pissed me off because if i wanted a regular size i would have asked for that! I usually tip the employees because i feel bad they have to work with her. Find a manager who puts the customer first. She always has an attitude when taking orders. BUT THE FOOD IS ALWAYS GOOD. I have had a cheesesteak from Philadelphia before and have tasted the unique flavors. Comparing a cheesesteak from California and Philadelphia I would feel there would be some similarities. The cheesesteak did not taste as good and looked very strange. It was filling but was no smaller than a subway 1 foot sandwich which for the price was not a good factor. I came here today to give their sandwiches a try. I ordered a chicken sandwich Hoagie style and steak fries. Their restaurant is clean, although their table placement is a little strange. They have tables running down the middle of the restaurant where the line of people end up. We picked a table near the door so as to avoid people standing over us while we eat. I have to say my sandwich was just ok. It took sometime for it to come out and the meat was cold! I wasn't really expecting that at all. Cheese was melted, but the meat wasn't what I expected. I recommend sharing one with someone, their portions are pretty big. I would say their steak fries were kind of dry and unseasoned but I enjoyed their potato chips and curly fries. I also had their chicken tenders before and I liked those too! Not a bad spot, my family and I always come here when we're not in the mood to cook and want something fast. I live in Hercules and drive to the Walnut Creek location when I crave a cheesesteak sandwich. The Pinole location just can't seem to get it right. I order the same thing every time, King If Philly with onions, hot and sweet peppers. Pinole either skimps on the cheese, overcooks the meat, or combination of the two. Not sure what all the bad reviews are about. I frequent Cheesesteak shops and this one is far cleaner and less greasy than other locations. I always get the King Philly to get extra steak and curly fries. The fries are always crispy even when they get dashed to my house! Service is pretty friendly and on top of it. Many years ago, I would frequent the Cheese Steak Shop on University Avenue in Berkeley. They were known back then for making great cheesesteaks. Well, they've now franchised and the luster has worn off. On my one and only visit, the person who ordered before me was mischarged. And the employee working the register admitted the overcharge, but said he couldn't provide a refund. He said only the manager could do that. And the manager doesn't come over the weekend. I had to fish the sandwich out to make sure it was even in the bag. Looked and felt at best like their medium sandwiches used to be in the not-so-distant past. Just about any sandwich here with any side, drink or (God forbid) tip is gonna easily make a $20 go poof! Sandwiches still taste great with these rationed portions, but it remains a shock getting used to. Helps to visit on Tuesdays, for double-points with their loyalty program. Build up 100 pts. for $10 off your order, which mitigates the inflationary pain somewhat. It has been years since I ate at the Cheese Steak Shop. I use to work in the shopping center in 2000's. This was the place to eat at during lunch. Nothing much has change since the last time I ate there. It is a place to get a good Cheese Steak. I prefer eating here when I was working nearby. Much better place to eat at instead of Togo's. I always got the large Cheese Steak. A 10 inch sandwich with the works. Lots of meat and plenty of peppers which kept falling off when you eat. In 2000's they had a punch card when I ate there. I think now there is an app which I should had ask about. What I notice now is that they put in a combo which you can get fries and drink at a extra charge (suggestion: GO LARGE on your Cheese Steak).
