The meat itself tasted well seasoned, with just the right ratio of peppers and onions. Bread was fine. What I really was disappointed in were the taters. I love my fries/tots and they have to complement my meal perfectly. When they came out, I just knew they were gonna be junk. You can tell they were way too overcooked, and the oil tasted old. This is as close as you can get to a classic cheesesteak outside of Philly. If I'm undecided on what to get during lunch, I'll usually end up here. Today, I was on my way to get a chicken sandwich and couldn't decide between Chick-fil-A or Popeyes and somehow my car ended up here. We used to eat at The Cheese Steak Shop regularly but do to a bad experience at the San Ramon location we completely stopped going. We were in Livermore and decided to give this one a try. It was late, it was closing soon and I didn't have high hopes. First the shop is very small but very clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. Trip took time with us to make sure we ordered the right items. The manager Jesus was very nice and listened to us about our bad experience with the San Ramon location and did everything to make sure we had a great experience. Food came quick they didn't try to rush us out cause they were closing soon. Hubby orders king of the Philly and I got a half. Food was fresh and delicious. The thick steak fries were cooked to perfection. Now that we now how great this location is we will definitely be back for more. My husband use to eat here all the time as he was out in the field and when he went this direction, he grabbed a sandwich. We were on our way home and got off the freeway to have a meal. My first time... Lots of parking and the dining room wasn't too busy when we showed up. It got busy after we started eating though. My husband got the original KING and I got the Western large. I am not a pepper/onion fan, so it was just meat, bbq sauce, 2 onion rings and cheese. The meat was tender, great flavor and perfect amount of sauce. I was able to pull the onion out of the middle of the o-rings so that was great. We both had fries with our meal. The portion size was huge for a large sandwich, I wrapped up the 2nd half and brought it home. The dining room and restroom were clean. Fun upbeat music playing. The best part of the visit was the gentleman behind the counter that helped us. What a spoonful of sugar this guy was. Excellent service, pleasant and overall great person. Just went to this location with my husband. Placed our order. Sat down to wait. Got our order and mine was wrong. My husband took it back up front, no problem, they were remaking it. I got it and it was perfect. Fries were good, my husbands was good, so no complaints about the food. So what's my complaint? Whoever was in charge was berating his employees at the front. At one point, the lady worker was trying to apologize for whatever it was that he was mad at and he literally told her to just stop talking. Another time he pointed to his ears and asked her if she could hear what he was saying. Both my husband and I are in supervisory positions in jobs that mistakes can kill a person, but neither of us would ever talk to a human being the way this man did. I came most recently on Friday the 12th for a few cheesesteaks. My go to is the mushroom cheesesteak, light onions, hot & sweet peppers. To me you kind of have to go light on those or it just makes the sandwich too big. I always get the king, as it's more meat & more cheese. Now if I'm having these 3-4 times a year, I'm going to do it right and get the king. Bummer on the other reviews. But I had a good experience coming in for a takeout The Gilroy. They were slammed but the 2 staffers were really dialed in with what they were doing. The cook was on it as was the lady taking & putting orders together. She was really professional for someone under a lot of pressure. She took the time - to say she'll be with you, greet you when ready, take your order and thank you. There were people coming in line with the online orders that they both really managed well. Their formula is pretty consistent and it was exactly what I remember. Quite satisfied with my The Gilroy cheese steak. The bathroom was clean and the whole shop was too for people who were slammed.
