My husband and I wanted a little date night so we decided to drive to Chatterbox. We have only eaten there once before and that was about 20 years ago. We arrived when they opened so we were seated immediately. Our party of 2 was seated at a table for 8 but ok. We had a nice view of the pond. Our side salad came to the table before our appetizer. We ordered fried pickle spears as an appetizer. They came out PIPING hot and were good. The salad was pale lettuce, a sprinkling of cheese and 1 cherry tomato cut in half. It was a pathetic salad but even worse was that it was served in a red plastic bowl. I know that I may be different but I don't like to eat out of plastic. I'm not sure why they couldn't put it on a plate or in a real bowl. My ribeye was good. It had a great flavor and was cooked perfectly mid-rare to order. My husband ordered the larger ribeye. He ordered his medium but it came out medium rare. He didn't want to send it back so he kept it. He doesn't care for the texture of mid-rare so it was a struggle for him to eat it. What made it worse was the gristle running through the whole steak. There's no reason for a quality ribeye to have gristle in it. Overall, the service was good. The restaurant decor was very outdated. The music was so loud that we couldn't hold a conversation across the table. We probably won't be repeat customers. read more

This is a hidden gem. Our experience was indeed a great one they have a system that works! The ambience is nothing spectacular. It gives old diner vibes. The wait was minimal and at no point during our time, there did service slowdown. Once we were seated our waitress, I want to say her name is Shelby was simply amazing so attentive, provided excellent selections. Everything she suggested we tried and it was phenomenal. The fish was fried in a way that I've never had before lightly battered well seasoned. The fish tastes so clean no after taste of swamp water. She informed us that we could try the blackened grilled and fried fish. My favorite was the grilled and second best would be fried, the blackened wasn't bad at all the other two just stood out way more. I know you'll probably say what all could you do to a baked potato to make it amazing I don't know what they do to their potatoes, but my simply loaded potato was off the chain. The pinto beans with fresh cut onions was also really good. I love that they are only open three days a week for five hours each day basically get it when you can and although this is roughly an hour plus drive I will be making a return visit at least once a Month. We cannot believe we have not heard of this place before! Happened to see a post this morning about chatterbox and decided we HAD to try it. The atmosphere was so great. Old school and welcoming. Every body was very friendly and our waitress was so sweet and accommodating to our littles. We tried the fried green tomatoes and cheese sticks for an appetizer. The tomatoes were very tender and the seasoning was just right. Crispy, not too salty. The cheese sticks were so good. Reminded me of the old school style from happy daze in Nesbit. Our entrees were even better. Our littles shared a cheese burger which the kitchen cut in half for us. I got the ribeye and fish, wife got the filet. Both cuts were the correct temp we ordered and were so tender. The fish lacked seasoning but was very crispy and flakey. You will not get a better steak for a better price anywhere. The best ribeye I have ever had. We are frequenters of Chatterbox, and I always order the same thing. This restaurant is for patient people only though, as you will need to arrive when they open or be prepared to wait. On a Friday or Saturday night the wait can get up to over an hour. When the restaurant is that busy, not only will you wait for a table, but you will wait for food too, so order an appetizer! Anyone I know who goes to Chatterbox doesn't mind the wait because the food is so good. The servers are always good and they tend to keep their staff for a long time. Let me start by saying I called ahead to make reservations for a party of 15 at 6:00pm on Saturday, September 13th at Chatterbox. I was told they do not take reservations, only first come, first served. No problem, thank you ma'am. To be proactive, I had a friend arrive a few minutes early so our name could be put on the list. They informed the hostess that 13 of the group would be there at 6pm, with 3 running a little late. The hostess said that was fine, but we could not be seated until all 13 had arrived. Fair enough. When we were finally seated, only 8 of us were allowed to sit together while the rest of our group was placed at a separate table because they refused to move tables together. That was disappointing, but we let it go. The real issue came when the last 3 members of our group arrived. They told the hostess they were with our party in the back, but were told, "We don't have a party." They were then flat-out refused seating. Meanwhile, a large party of 8 was leaving and a 4-top right next to us was also about to leave. Instead of asking our guests to wait a few minutes for those tables to clear, the hostess simply refused them. To add to the frustration, there was no wait at this time. This was extremely poor customer service from the front of the house. Our server, however, was amazing and the food was excellent, as always. Unfortunately, the front of house staff has consistently shown bad attitudes and poor customer service, which really takes away from the overall experience. read more

The food is a consistent 9/10. Steaks are amazing. Potatoes are small. Salads are basic but good. To be honest unless you are a steak or catfish eater the menu lacks depth. Chicken tenders are a no go, appetizers need revision. They are definitely not hand breaded or fresh. The service is typically always amazing. Only one waitresses there acts ugly and if I could remember her name, I would put her on here. The ambiance is nothing to be desired. The indoor/outdoor carpet probably hasn't been changed in 20 years. It's a double wide trailer sitting in the middle of nowhere. I just wanted to add another small update. We went to the Chatterbox again tonight. I have always gotten the catfish because it's so good. I kept seeing other people ordering their steaks. They looked so good, I thought I would give one a try. I am glad I did! This was one of the most flavorful steaks I have ever had. We waited almost an hour for our food, we just ordered fish and shrimp. We watched people who arrived when we did get dessert before our food came out. Catfish was muddy and left a bad aftertaste. This is a pretty good place. I have been a handful of times and have never had anything less than a pleasurable experience. The servers and other employees are all very nice. I had a kind of "spacey" server once but that is it, all of the other times went smooth and efficiently. It is kind of "Country" if you will, but I kind of dig it. One positive I will mention if you are worried about it (like me) is they do not play country music here. I just wanted to clear that up since I called them "Country". It like that Aunt you have in Paris TN or your family down in DeKalb MS kind of place... You'll get it... Steaks are good, great flavor, and have always been cooked perfectly. Shrimp are factory breaded but not bad at all. Catfish is hand breaded but on the small size of fillets are offered I would say. Baked potatoes and hush puppies are always hot and fresh. All in all, I would say that it is a pretty solid place to get a nice meal at a great price served with some Southern Hospitality. Oh yea... Don't snooze on all of the homemade desserts! We have had some really good cake along with the strangest (tasty nonetheless) cheesecake! Get some to go if you can't eat it while you are there. You will not regret it later, I promise! Ive lived in the area for 30 years and they have the absolute best fried fish in the county! The steak is mouth watering too.

We moved to the Memphis area in 2021 and visited Chatterbox at the suggestion of a neighbor. Since then, we consider it a treat to drive a half hour and enjoy their menu. We always try to arrive before 5pm to avoid waiting for a table. The last two visits, one a Saturday, one yesterday (Friday) we placed our order at 4:30pm. The waitress left and came back to tell us "no more whole catfish". We were told that they have an all-you-can-eat for $20 on Thursday on whole catfish and the supply got wiped out. Given the demise of Red Lobster for similar strategy, is this a good business decision, Chatterbox? Do you realize you would make more profit if you reserved fish for paying customers rather than catering to gluttons who apparently have nothing better to do than sit for 2-3 hours and stuff their face with 10, 12, or 15 catfish? I mean, its your business to run as you please but we will certainly call ahead next time to be sure we won't be disappointed. We really love this place and want them to be successful for years to come, but either order more fish from your supplier or get rid of all-you-can-eat. read more

Been going there for probably 30 years, the last 3 times major issues, hostess is rude, waited over an hour for good (5:00 in the afternoon), order was wrong, cold, one person did not even get to eat, waitress seemed clueless, overcharged, gave feed back, seemed to not care, ask for owners said they are seldom there anymore, guess that is the problem. We have been there many times and have had great experiences. Tonight though... we put our name on the list. We were told there would be an hour wait. No problem. We waited in our car for 45 minutes. We got cold and really needed to get out of our car. We walked in. Several people were standing there and then cleared for the table. Asked if they could help us and we told them we were on the list. They looked and we were next. We waited and then more people were called and we saw we had been skipped. We didn't say anything. The lady told us we had to get out of her restaurant and wait in our car in a very rude tone. We were moving out of the way when needed and we're friendly. We walked out and asked to be taken off the list. A man followed us out and said he heard how rude it was as well and that she had been rude to him. Wonderful place, wonderful food. The people there are friendly; it feels like they're all family. They get to know you by name. My husband and I love their steaks and fish. I really loved the blackened catfish and their filet. The turnip greens have a lot of flavor; they're almost sweet. Fried mushrooms are also delish. We really love coming here.
