Small town local eatery where everyone seems to know everyone, the owner Betty is a delight and also serves as the county commissioner! Staff are welcoming, they'll chat with everyone as they take orders, clear up and refill your drinks so they're never ending. There's some counter style, booth and table seating options that you help yourself to a clean table and there's bare concrete flooring. This place has been around for decades and is well loved place. I stopped by on a torrential rainy day and was blessed with piping hot coffee and started to enjoy a sweet roll. Then noticing the food coming out of the kitchen I added in a breakfast biscuit which was heavenly with its smashed style sausage patty, egg and cheese with a side of potatoes that were basically deep fried with no seasoning or grilled onions sadly however they did have hot sauce so I was very grateful. The biscuit is so tender you need a fork to eat the sandwich which was awesome. Iced tea is served in a mason jar, love that. I'm so bummed I missed the wed lunch special of pork chops! read more

In for breakfast this morning and I thought I'd check in. When I did, I see where someone decided to do a review and, well, take a shot at everyone who reviews this place in accolades. If he doesn't know what all the "hubub" is about, then obviously the place doesn't do it for him. That's fine...to each his own. I would have said, "perhaps you went on an off day", but he made it clear he comes through quite often...and since "there's no other sit down restaurant in the area", he has no other choice but to eat there since he's hungry. It seems that perhaps a change of scenery is more what this guy needs. Stop eating somewhere you don't like the "mediocre" food. As for the food here, the catfish is off the charts. That is, unless you prefer the heavily breaded, massively thick, and dripping with the taste of pond scum water. Then go elsewhere. Wolf River Cafe is very well known for their light, thin, crispy, and....WOW that's INCREDIBLE...catfish. Then again...maybe some can never be pleased. Oh....and why would I take the time to make this point? If you've ever eaten here, you know the staff is absolutely THE SWEETEST group of people who pay attention to your table better than any place I've been. My wife and I decided to ride the motorcycle over and eat lunch here since it was a nice day outside. I've been meaning eat here for some time but never really made it since it's a good distance from where I live. It is a nice, cozy little place with a lot of charm, and the charm is really from the employees. Our server, Sandy, was the best. I had the chicken salad sandwich plate and my wife had the chicken salad plate. Both came with homemade potato chips, a pickle and deviled egg. The chicken salad was probably the best I've ever had. If you like fried catfish, this is the place to go. I'm fairly new to the area and my mother absolutely loves and raves about their fried catfish. I took her to a doctors appointment in Memphis when we first got here, about a year ago and a nurse recommended this place. He said that folks come all the way from Atlanta to get this catfish... I thought, wow, must be good. We haven't been since this past May and are overdue. My mothers baby sister came to visit and she was here for a month. Food was pretty good. Meat and three. Southern style cooking. I do not like cornbread muffins. These seemed to have flour in them. Iron skillet cornbread is the ONLY way to do it. Chicken and Dumplings were exceptional, as were the beans and broccoli. Catfish seems to be their thing so I tried it. I'm usually not impressed by restaurant catfish, because it's so easy to get a hold of live, fresh ones. This was no exception. Bream and crappie are better anyway. Great little spot if you are looking for some good southern cooking and small town atmosphere. The wait staff are delightful and you can tell by the way they interact with customers that most of them are "regulars." Some of the members of my group ordered heavy, fried foods and they were a big hit. I ordered the chicken salad in a tomato- it was decent overall, but very cold and almost frozen. I think the fried southern foods are the way to go here, rather than trying to pick a healthier option. We also ordered dessert. They were all much too large and sweet, but appropriately so for the atmosphere and menu. And of course, they were very yummy! read more

Like family! Wife and I stopped here on the way back from dropping our daughter off at a church youth group event at The Country Place in Moscow and it was fantastic. First of all, when you enter you feel like you've taken a trip back in time (maybe Mayberry meets the Brady Bunch). Everyone is so friendly you feel like you're a member of the family. It's like a holiday meal with your relatives. We had the fried catfish of course and weren't disappointed in the least. Light and crispy and hot served with some very good hush puppies. Drinks were brought in quart sized mason jars and (thankfully) there was a roll of paper towels in the middle of the table. I wanted to know what they had for dessert, and my wife mentioned that the list was written on this small dry-erase board near the door. Well, there was a truckload of items (I'm sure because it was early). We share a scrumptious slice of caramel cake that topped off the meal nicely. I highly recommend this place. Firstly, I give Wolf River Cafe 4.5 stars. I stopped by Wolf River Cafe on a lazy, cool, overcast Saturday and was surprised to see this joint wasn't busy. I walked right in and sat down, you don't have to wait for someone to seat you if there's an open table. The staff doesn't want you to sit at a dirty table, so be respectful and wait for a clean table. I've eaten here many times and absolutely love the quaint atmosphere. Upon sitting down, my waitress sat down a plate of warm, fresh hush puppies and pickled green tomatoes. The hush puppies didn't last long. On this day I ordered the fried catfish with fries. Wolf River Cafe uses the "finger" portion of the catfish filets so one should not expect a larger, traditional filet. Wolf River Cafe serves two variations of of fries, steak and seasoned. I prefer steak fries as they are great for pushing sauces and ketchup around the plate. Anyone ever mix Louisiana hot sauce and ketchup together for "spicy" ketchup? You should. My three piece catfish with fries was delicious as usual. Sweet tea with lemon is a Southern staple beverage and this tea was on point. It was not overly sweet and had a good "bite." I was feeling pretty satiated after such a fine meal, but when one sees blackberry cobbler written on the available desert menu, one cannot refuse such a temptation. Growing up in the South, there's only one way to serve blackberry cobbler...piping hot with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top. Wolf River Cafe served my blackberry cobbler with ice cream on the side, but I'm sure they would've served it any way I wanted it. This cobbler was very hot and absolutely delicious! Guess I'll walk a few more laps around my back forty to work it off. Points to note, Wolf River Cafe has limited seating, probably 6 four-six person booths, and 6-8 four person tables. Keep that in mind when planning a Friday night dinner with a party of eight. Also the restrooms are immediately situated off the dining area. Therefore, if you go in there and destroy the toilet, everyone will know. read more

This place is the epitome of" its good 'cause people say it's good"... in reality, it's an average place, with an average menu. Food is nothing to go out your to get. Place, itself, is fairly plain and nondescript. We eat here on occasion, because we're driving by when hungry. Place is always packed but it's the only sit down restaurant in the area. If you eat here and rave on it I'd be happy for you to explain it to me, because I just don't get what all the hubbub is about. read more
