Three steps into the shop I could tell the ownership has changed. I don't know what changed aesthetically, but it's cold and harsh. The menu is stripped down, the gelato bar was off, no napkins, and 'dark'. We ordered two drinks - cappuccino and something strawberry. Cappuccino was more of a latte but taste was ok. Stopped by Square Beans yesterday afternoon to meet up with a friend to complete our weekly Bible Study. We had a wonderful time catching up. I thoroughly enjoyed my latte. The blueberry muffin latte was nice and smooth and not very sweet. The cafe creates their own flavored syrups. I love this aspect of local coffee shops. This coffee shop is located in the heart of old Collierville. It is so quaint and charming. We sat outside to enjoy the wonderful cooler temps. The square has historic vibes with other businesses near by. There are other eateries as well. It is a very nice picturesque area. Shout out to Sarah. She was the barista on shift and was super nice and friendly. We talked coffee for at least 10 minutes or more. Love sharing my coffee adventures with other coffee connoisseurs. Service needs to improve. Not friendly to all customers. They got frustrated when asked by two customers asking for napkins. Napkins were not out they were in the drawer above "trash" sign. One customer went behind counter to grab her own paper towel. She rolled her eyes because nobody at counter acknowledged her. So we ordered a Hot vanilla latte which tasted like a plain latte. Sweet baby Jesus, how do you mess up hot tea my wife and I wondered. She described it as slightly peach flavored water with extra water. She suggested it may had been lower quality tea as it didn't diffuse within the water. As for my Latte, not the best I had either. Too much foam and not as tasty as others I've had at other places. Maybe the staff was having a bad day and didn't make it proper. Who knows. All I know is maybe we need to return just to see if the coffee and tea here is that bad or maybe we came on an off day. read more

They have never been the best coffee shop or the most friendly of people, but lately the level of service and the coffee flavor or quality has taken a dive. The last 3 or 4 times I have visited, the servers were either rude or just very uncaring. The mocha or iced latte has lacked taste and tasted watered down. Today, my mocha was cold and i had to ask for it to be reheated twice. The last few sips were very very sweet as if it had not been stirred properly.The person did not seem happy that I asked for it to be heated. read more

Oh the memories. Moved west so rarely get out to collierville but it's worth the monthly trip for the quaint town square and this beloved cafe. New management has made some excellent changes. The special seasonal drinks are incredible and this is most important! The quality and consistency since they've taken over has been welcome. This time the sweets pastry case was empty by 3 which was disappointing. But gosh their quiche are delicious! If management reads, just a wrapped Noni biscotti would have made all the difference for when runout of sweet pastries please?! Cookies are just too commonplace. Oh and trash was overflowing but your workers were super busy yet still gave great customer service and when I brought to their attention they were horrified so got right to it. If I am going to pay $3 for a cup, it better be super duper. So I got my morning fix, but was not too satisfied. They do offer lots of goodies to eat. Otherwise this cozy spot off the historical town square provided the ideal entry point for Collierville, a Mayberry-type charmer of a town on the outskirts of Memphis that epitomizes quaint Americana in a vividly red state. There's even a Bible museum on the square. This place is pretty great ! It's my favorite local place, it has a nice southern eclectic vibe without being cliché. You have a nice view of the square, and a good open space inside. They don't mind you spreading out and working on a project for HOURS. Trust me, I've done it many a time. The coffee is great, strong enough that I sometimes wonder if it's actually espresso in the normal drinks XD They also have plenty of yummy southern snacks a treats! Sweet magnolia gelato, voodoo chips, whoopie pie, lemon bars, etc. Even if you just want to stay for 5 min, it's worth a little look-see! Their coffee this morning was HOT, FRESH, & GOOD. This coffee shop offers many other items. Little cakes, muffins, pastries and items to go along with a cup of joe. There is gelato too. They sell other items inside, like mugs and platers. Small cozy seating areas are grouped together all about. The view is nice. Went to this adorable local coffee and gelato spot on a work break. I decided to splurge and got a delicious hot white chocolate and warmed up cinnamon bun. Square Beans is very cozy - it's almost like having coffee in Walt and Kelli's living room. When I was there, there was soft jazz playing and TCM on mute on the TV. There are plenty of tables, comfy chairs and couches and wall outlets. The best part of the decor was the leg lamp. It's not just for Christmas anymore. They've got a full lunch menu (all of the sandwiches looked delicious, especially the tomato / mozzarella / basil), but I settled on some tomato soup and an apple cider. I stopped in Square Beans while Christmas shopping with my mom for a break from the crowds. This quaint little shop offers some big, unique flavored coffees. The shop is so cozy and inviting, I am going to have to start working from here! There is so many flavors and I decided to go with the special of the day, the pumpkin chai latte. I crave this coffee literally every day. I now find any and every excuse to head to the square and get a cup. My mom had the chai latte and she loved it! They also offered ice cream. Even though it was snowing the day we went, I sampled some... because I am addicted. I tasted the sweet potato ice cream and it was fabulous. Such a great, cozy shop... A fantastic local place at the Collierville Square. I can only speak on behalf of the breakfast food, since I have yet to try the gelato, but I definitely will soon. The biscuits are a solid 4/5, more bang for your buck than if you were to go to McDonald's. Also tastes way better. I really wanted to like this place a lot. I love the classic "smalltown America" town square in Collierville, and the idea of sitting on the square drinking local coffee is right up my alley. While the coffee was good, the service and overall experience were just okay. I met a friend there a few months back to have coffee and catch up. The young lady behind the counter was frankly inattentive and rude, and seemed annoyed when asked questions about some of the menu items. Speaking of the menu, the food items seemed to be rather limited, so we ended up taking a pass and just choosing coffee and tea. This further frustrated our young compatriate, who sighed and rolled her eyes through the transaction, thrusting paper cups across the counter at us once her arduous tasks had been completed. Apart from the service, the coffee and tea were good if unremarkable, and there are nice spots inside and out to sit and converse. It is very well set up for that. We enjoyed our time talking and it was a generally comfortable and relaxing environment overall. As we were leaving, I smiled and wished the server a good day, in response to which she glared and didn't say anything. Another small complaint for me is that they're closed Sundays. I live and work on the other side of town and generally stay busy Mon-Sat, so most of the time when I visit Collierville - for the antique mall and the square - it's on Sundays and they're never open. C'est la vie. That said, if I'm on the square, want coffee, and they're open, I'd stop in. I'll not be making any special plans to do so though. read more

The espresso was wonderful, perhaps the best I've had in Memphis. It's a little pricey, but the portion was generous and I loved the hand-made mugs they used. The interior is also, except for the lack of outlets, perfect for a coffeeshop, with a nice variety of tables and chairs along with other eclectic furnishings. Contrary to some of the earlier Yelp reviews, they don't appear to offer anything food-wise besides desserts and basic baked goods anymore, but there are plenty of full-service food places elsewhere on the square. The problem here was the service--the lady behind the counter was unfriendly and short from the moment I walked in the store. She clearly didn't want to be there and implied as much when talking to some other customers. Apparently they're closing down for awhile because they can't find anyone to run the store? I'd love for them to succeed, but I hope that they can find some friendlier workers since the place was strangely deserted and I didn't dawdle long inside with the cloud of annoyance hanging in the air. read more
