A fantastic local place at the Collierville Square. I can only speak on behalf of the breakfast food, since I have yet to try the gelato, but I definitely will soon. The biscuits are a solid 4/5, more bang for your buck than if you were to go to McDonald's. Also tastes way better. Some of the drinks can be a little pricey for what you get, but that sometimes comes with being a local place. If you haven't tried it, you're missing out. read more

I really wanted to like this place a lot. I love the classic "smalltown America" town square in Collierville, and the idea of sitting on the square drinking local coffee is right up my alley. While the coffee was good, the service and overall experience were just okay. I met a friend there a few months back to have coffee and catch up. The young lady behind the counter was frankly inattentive and rude, and seemed annoyed when asked questions about some of the menu items. Speaking of the menu, the food items seemed to be rather limited, so we ended up taking a pass and just choosing coffee and tea. This further frustrated our young compatriate, who sighed and rolled her eyes through the transaction, thrusting paper cups across the counter at us once her arduous tasks had been completed. Apart from the service, the coffee and tea were good if unremarkable, and there are nice spots inside and out to sit and converse. It is very well set up for that. We enjoyed our time talking and it was a generally comfortable and relaxing environment overall. As we were leaving, I smiled and wished the server a good day, in response to which she glared and didn't say anything. Another small complaint for me is that they're closed Sundays. I live and work on the other side of town and generally stay busy Mon-Sat, so most of the time when I visit Collierville - for the antique mall and the square - it's on Sundays and they're never open. C'est la vie. That said, if I'm on the square, want coffee, and they're open, I'd stop in. I'll not be making any special plans to do so though. read more

The espresso was wonderful, perhaps the best I've had in Memphis. It's a little pricey, but the portion was generous and I loved the hand-made mugs they used. The interior is also, except for the lack of outlets, perfect for a coffeeshop, with a nice variety of tables and chairs along with other eclectic furnishings. Contrary to some of the earlier Yelp reviews, they don't appear to offer anything food-wise besides desserts and basic baked goods anymore, but there are plenty of full-service food places elsewhere on the square. The problem here was the service--the lady behind the counter was unfriendly and short from the moment I walked in the store. She clearly didn't want to be there and implied as much when talking to some other customers. Apparently they're closing down for awhile because they can't find anyone to run the store? I'd love for them to succeed, but I hope that they can find some friendlier workers since the place was strangely deserted and I didn't dawdle long inside with the cloud of annoyance hanging in the air. read more

Cute little small town place, and I was glad to see they had locally roasted coffee from a good roaster. I bought a bag to take home, then realized it was roasted mid May. The espresso machine is a super automatic. I would love to see solid batista training on pulling great espresso shots and steaming milk into perfect microfoam. Selling 6 week old coffee isn't acceptable in my book. It's the best thing going in Collierville, but wouldn't be impressive in most cities. read more

Worst customer service I think I've ever had. Had never been here before but walked in and asked the employee what she recommended and her response was, "Well I don't like really coffee so..." and recommended nothing to us. Wanted to try a local coffee shop after all it is better to keep dollars local whenever possible. Ordered a chai tea latte. Overhead board said $4.25- she says ok $5.32. Whatever fine I don't argue about a dollar but I did take note. The chai tea itself is extremely bland and has strange unpleasant chunky things floating toward the bottom. Disappointed in what could be such a great place on the revitalized historic Collierville square. I had a few months of vacation towards the end of medical school and was looking forward to walking up to Square Beans regularly for coffee in the mornings. All three of my experiences left me unsatisfied. The baristas never seemed very engaged and didn't have a lot of knowledge about coffee (this was crux of my beef). Breakfast options are limited and everything is pricey (to be expected). One morning the owner/manager had set up shop at one of the tables, doing paperwork etc. I was a little annoyed that she would take an entire table at 8 a.m. considering the limited seating available. I occasionally stop by, regardless of my blasé opinion, since it's in such a great spot and is well decorated. The really just need better baristas! Hope others have had better experiences. read more

Hazelnut Gelato!!! Only gave 4 stars because I haven't tried the coffee there, actually I haven't tried anything other than the hazelnut gelato, lol. That is worth the 4 stars alone. If you haven't tried it, you are missing out. I also do like the fact that it is a locally owned business. They also sell all natural grass fed meats there, can't remember the name of the farm... I just visited here today. I got a medium iced vanilla latte. I want to point out the guy was very nice and friendly, other than that the latte didn't have any cream or milk in it though and the flavor of the coffee kind of tasted like day old coffee. End of story I won't be coming here again I'll stick with Starbucks or levee creamery. read more

We visited friends in Olive Branch, MS on vacation recently, and decided to explore the area for good coffee one morning. The Memphis suburbs aren't exactly teeming with great coffee shops-- Starbuck's seemed to be the extent of our options. Yelp guided us to Square Beans, and we got a great cup (bottomless, to be sure) of joe, a tasty slice of quiche, and the added bonus of a walk around a pretty little town square on a quiet summer morning. read more

Must have been an off day, the girl at the counter was overwhelmed or just not trained. Tried to order breakfast sandwich, no cheese and no sausage, I guess I will have a cookie. Then she forgot our coffee, went to counter and yes she forgot. When received, tasted like water, not a good showing for the Mexican Coffee of the day. Honestly wish the staff had been more friendly. She seemed to be miserable for the entire hour and a half we were there. I was so excited to go here for the first time. They offer Italian sodas which is something you don't see a lot of places. We were told to get our own club soda from the cooler. I am a barista and serve people at my current job and would never ask my customers to get me the ingredients themselves. We added milk to ours to make them Italian cream sodas from the coffee bar. We spent over $4 on each tiny scoop of ice cream for the kids in a cup. I felt the decor and location was adorable. I'm sure there is staff that's not so annoyed to be working here and our beverages and ice cream were enjoyed. She yelled to everyone "we are closing in 5 minutes just so you know"! It wasn't what she said it was just how she said it. I will not be returning just due to the way the staff treated it's customers. It's not that hard to be friendly, make your customers drinks yourself, politely let people know when you're closing, or even say you're welcome when customers say thank you. read more
