Price: very reasonable for what you get and nice Texas sized portions. Service: excellent. You notice how many staff they have as soon as you walk in. Food: one of the best meals I've had in recent memory. Food is meant to shared here, but being it was a biz meeting and my guest didn't eat octopus, we decided to order solo. The octopus rivaled New York's Avra, and was actually charred unlike some restaurants who use that word, and then it tastes boiled. Will order again. The star of the show. Wagyu short rib. Not your stereotypical short rib, gravy on mashed potatoes. Been there done that. This looked like a skirt steak, but has the (spongy) consistency of Wagyu. What made it was the crust which had a brown sugar type taste and then finished with a noticeable yummy balsamic glaze. Had some leftover to-go bc was stuffed. Reservation for 6pm this past Saturday to celebrate my wife's retirement with family and friends. As soon as we were seated at the table we had requested, as 7 in attendance, Harry Cox, Duro Hospitality Regional Manager, who had helped with our reservation, greeted us, Bag hangers were offered to all with purses. I finally tried The Charles and honestly it lived up to the hype. The vibe is super lively without feeling over the top, and the service felt really attentive without being annoying about it. We ordered a few things to share, but the artichokes were the standout for me, simple but really well done, super flavorful, and one of those dishes you keep going back to without realizing it. Everything else we had was solid too, but that's the one I'd go back for. It's definitely more of a "treat yourself" spot, but for a night out or special occasion, it's worth it. What. A. Feast! I have always loved The Charles, and I was so curious/nervous about the renovation, but it did not disappoint!! The interior was very much revamped, with new light fixtures and I think the columns inside are new too. We got a nice comfy booth for the 4 of us, and ordered so much food. Went for a date night and it became one of my top 3 restaurants in dallas. Great service, we sat at the speakeasy bar in the back which I loved because it was a more intimate setting and still full service menu. I loved the decoration. Our waiters were excellent in discussing the menu. We sort of felt pushed to do tasting menu by the staff, but ultimately decided to order à la carte. It was an anniversary so they gave us complementary bubbles which was sweet! We started with the drinks which were SO GOOD. I still think about the spritz I ordered. Honestly, everything we ordered was amazing. Some of the highlights were the charred octopus, the melon salad (seasonal) and the crab pesto. But my favorite by far was the dessert. Came to celebrate my birthday and my party had a good time! The restaurant offers valet and it's very lively once you step inside. We were able to wait at the bar until our table was ready and there I ordered a hibis-kiss. The drink was ok but very citrus forward so I settled on wine for my drink of choice the remainder of the night. We ordered appetizers of wood fired oysters and we did enjoy them. For mains, I ordered the spicy creste di gallo (recommended by our server) but unfortunately it was citrus heavy. My friend also ordered this (vegan) and even after adding plain red sauce - the citrus was still overpowering. We did try another dish but that was citrus forward as well (maybe it's their thing?). My friend did enjoy her salmon dish, though! We ordered sides of mushrooms and okra and these were great! I came here for a work event and it was my first time here. I was impressed from the beginning of my valet experience and it only got better from there! Very pretty restaurant on the inside. Easy to pass on the outside if you're not paying attention. Service was spot on. They were very friendly, quick, and everyone seemed to help each other out. Before we even ordered, had a free snack brought to the table of a pepper and cheese. It was a nice start and the cheese was very good. I started with the beef tartare and a wood-fired oyster. For me, the beef tartare was the hand down winner. It had great flavors and the cream sauce to put on top was delicious. My main was the truffle lasagna. An unassuming exterior, valet only, perfect date spot. Bartenders care about their craft and put a ton of thought and care into each cocktail. A MUST VISIT WHEN IN DALLAS. This restaurant is so underrated for what it offers. I had to book a month in advance and now I know why. My coworkers and I (group of 7) ordered a lot of dishes and I will say the portions are small. However the taste of each item was just the perfect combination. It wasn't the typical flavors you would expect. I believe each dish was around $25-28 and our food bill costed $300 before tips and taxes. For what we got , it was totally worth it! A grandeur Italian inspired cuisine with a swanky speakeasy hidden in the back. In short, it was sublime and our best dining experience ever together. Food & drinks that were enjoyed at the Charles were: Winter berry crush; with blackberry, elderflower, and Prosecco. It's a sweet must! I wish I had more of these! Lavender Limoncello; the vibrante, citrus, lavender, and Topo Chico created a gradient color in this virgin. Squash Blossom Special (off-the menu); cream cheese stuffed squash blossoms fried in a light batter, served with a sauce and radish garnishes. Wood fired oysters; piquillo pepper and garlic butter were mind blowing and senses activating! And I craved for more... Spicy Creste di Gallo; A beautiful dish with crystal prawns, Tarragon, parsley and lemon. Pallet clearing after the buttery oyster starters. This dish had a hint of spicy, lemony tart, hearty, and was well-enjoyed! Akaushi NewYork strip; 14 Oz Wagyu sublimely prepared. Rich flavored and exceptional tender steak, served on a bed of charred eggplant and crispy grilled kale. Plated on the beautiful copper dish was eye-pleasing and worth mentioning. Akaushi was definitely the star of the show! Consumed together with the grilled mushrooms side dish, that was a mix of perfectly grilled, flavor-absorbed, fresh shitake mushrooms, pepita espuma, lots of garlic, and spring onion gnocchi. The mushroom took the stage and the gnocchi did not shine here. Blood Moon Rising & Topo Chico Fresh, citrusy and bubbly. Balanced with our food well. Tiramisu & Affogato Concluding the courses tonight with a decadent not your usual tiramisu, more like a rich, not-so-sweet chocolate cheesy dessert with very tart sauce and yellow gooseberries. I had the most incredible dining experience at The Charles! From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with so much warmth. Harry greeted and escorted me to the back lounge/bar area where I had a deliciously crafted cocktail. The bar was quite busy and Josiah went above and beyond to accommodate me and make sure I was taken care of while I waited for my table. Now, the food was extraordinary. We ordered the Bluefin tuna carpaccio for starter, and it was super fresh with a nice kick from the jalapeño. For main, we had the Lemon ricotta gundi, Spicy creste di gallo and Fusilla pesto. Every single plate was absolutely delicious!! Me and my friend were eating in silence at some point lol it was THAT good. Our server was great and offered us spot-on recommendations that we couldn't get enough of. Every detail of this dining experience was impeccable. To me, what makes a good restaurant stand out is the attention to detail. Having someone make sure we had clean cutlery and fresh water was nice and elevated. The restaurant itself is small and intimate with Italian inspired artwork. I had the wood fired oysters for my appetizer and they were great. The hanger steak was my main course and it was really good. The meat was cooked perfectly and the kale salad had a nice kick to it. My guests and I were really impressed with all her knowledge! My guests were from out of town and said they'd come back to Dallas just to eat here. My friend is Argentinean and was impressed with the grill. Every single thing we got was delicious. Stand out dishes were the octopus, cooked to perfection, the best I ever had, so tender, the gnocchi and of course the olive oil cake. I don't have a lot of regular restaurants I go back to often. Great sister restaurant of Mister Charles. We had reservations on a Saturday evening and came with some friends. It was bustling and lively. We waited by the bar for a little bit until our table was ready. Our server was friendly and made some great recommendations. Before we knew it, our table was filled with an abundance of plates, to be shared family style. Everything we had was great, except the steak dish, no one cared for it. Still not sure what exactly it was from the menu. It was oddly prepared, tasted raw, or fermented. Some of our favorites were the pastas and seafood appetizers. We also had a bottle of Dom and some cute cocktails. The ambience is definitely very nice for a night with friends as it's quite loud for intimate conversations. I visited this lovely restaurant a few weeks back with a friend of mine just to check out some new food spots in the city and they did not disappoint. The ambience is very elegant, but not too dark to where you would feel out of place getting some content. The vibe was quiet, but lively at the same time if you can imagine. The wait staff and hosts were exceptional. From their polished uniforms to their presentation of each dish, it made me feel like I should've had on formal attire. We decided to go with the chef's choice for course dinner menu. The steak was cooked perfectly, everything they brought to the table was exquisite and seasoned very well. They even have a cool speakeasy, and they were sweet enough to reserve a table for us without us even asking , and we finished our last course inside the quaint and adorable bar they have tucked away. Okay -- I don't really like giving out 5 stars but this place we so good and we had the best time. Our waiter was Roman -- loved him. Super friendly knowledgeable and engaging. My wife and I can't recall having better service anywhere! The speak-easy in the back was cool and comfortable and the drinks were really good. They customized my wife's drink to sub out grapefruit for pineapple and she said that was the best drink she ever had! For dinner -- the prices were really very reasonable but they are small plates so you need to order about 3 or 4 for two people. The sommelier helped us pick a great Italian wine which was exactly what we were looking for! Dinner was so good I got gift certificates for my daughters that are living in the city and they're going to love it too. The GM (Joe) helped me with the gift certificates and then gave us his business card so they could call him directly to make sure they got a great table. That was a very nice touch. The service and people were over the top great (From the valet to the hostess to the bar tender to the waiter, the sommelier and the GM) and it was not "annoying-fake-great". I think I met just about everyone at the place. If you want the best service, awesome food and a cool vibe, check this place out. Ask for Roman...good dude. I recently came here for a birthday dinner and decided to start with some appetizers to share. We had the bluefin tuna carpaccio, fig and burrata salad, charred octopus, and Tuscan potatoes. The charred octopus was particularly tender and delicious. Overall, the appetizers were great for sharing. For my main course, I went with the lemon ricotta gnudi. The texture was interesting, and the hazelnuts added a nice crunch. However, the portion sizes were on the smaller side, so it wasn't very filling. The ambiance was beautiful, though the space was a bit tight, with tables quite close to each other. The servers were excellent, explaining the menu well and bringing out our food quickly. There's also a speakeasy through the kitchen with lovely decor, which was a fun way to end the night. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but nothing particularly special that would make me want to return. read more

Another restaurant "week" review. This was absolutely the best meal that I had all month- so good that I forgot to take pictures of most of it. As a welcome snack, we were give a little cup with manchego cheese, olives, and artichokes. It was a nice surprise and a nice way to start the meal. For the meal itself, a friend and I decided to sort of divide and conquer on our mains and desserts, but chose our own apps. I chose the wood-fired oysters which I would give maybe a 3/5. They were fresh, but there was nothing special about them- however I'm from Louisiana so these just may be a hard sell. For our mains, she ordered the truffle lasagna and I ordered the Hanger Steak. These were both 5/5!! I wasn't so sure about the eggplant salsa nero when I ordered it, but quickly realize how much flavor it added to the meal. And the steak was cooked perfectly. The lasagna was also amazing- I was hesitant to order it because I still dream about a lasagna I had in a market in bologna, but let me tell you, this was a close second. We also ordered a side of the okra with crispy garbanzo and a yogurt sauce. Again, I wasn't quite sold when we ordered it, but now I'm trying to recreate my own grilled okra. This will definitely be a go to when I return (which I will). Lastly, for dessert, I went with the affogato and she went with the olive oil cake. She won on this one- the affogato was fine, but there was so much espresso that it overpowered any other flavor that may have been a part of the dessert. We also ordered a bottle of the Romitorio which was perfectly balanced- I'm not a huge Italian wine fan, and this one didn't disappoint. Light and not too acidic. The service was amazing, and the vibe was great- I thought it would be stuffy, but it wasn't at all. A review? Really? The Charles is one of the best restaurants in Dallas. Every visit just gets better and better. It's not common to find a restaurant that has excellent food options (I love the pie, crudos, oysters and pasta dishes) and even BETTER service. I mean, you will be taken care of at The Charles. The quality of work, purpose, craft and detail is not even comparable to anywhere else. I can't wait to come back as we're expecting a baby in three weeks to devour their delicious menu. Also their olive oil cake is to die for and if you love pistachio, their cannoli is top notch! Note: It can be quite loud in the back so if you're planning an intimate date, keep that in mind. We went here for dinner on a Wednesday. The place was packed. This place was popular. Our waitress was amazing, one of the most personable we've ever had. She made great recommendations. We got: Octopus: we did not like celery, it did not add anything to the dish but the cook on the octopus was perfect. Very tender. Wagyu ravioli: 5 pieces, 30+ dollars.
