sadly I wish I could give this a better review but the only item we got that we absolutely loved was the beet risotto. There were 5 of us and all of our meals were mid at best. I'm only saying this so that we can provide feedback for the experience. The garden out front is stunning but the service was slow and the server wasn't super attentive or cared to answer questions. I got the steak that was more rare than I wanted and had to send it back to the kitchen since we had asked for it medium. It was drenched in sauce that was way overly salty. The spinach and artichoke (cream(?) spinach was a terrible texture and hard to eat. The thinly sliced potatoes were salty as well and overall to spend over $70 for that meal alone was not worth the price. The steak frites were just fine, and the gazpacho was not a crowd favorite. Like I said, there was nothing from our meal that screamed amazing. But if you are to go... the beet risotto would be the must order. Oh also the bread was stale and the server just dropped the bread on our plates almost like he was throwing it at us. We chose The Chanticleer to celebrate birthday and made our reservation two weeks in advance, so we expected a special evening. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience from start to finish. We were given an undesirable table despite booking well in advance. After being seated, it took about 10 minutes just to receive water and after I finally asked for it. Throughout the meal, our waiter was rarely around, and we repeatedly had to ask other staff to find him. One staff member stood nearby pouring wine for other tables but never acknowledged us. She avoided eye contact even when it was obvious we needed assistance. A simple "I'll get your server" would have made a big difference. The service was painfully slow all evening. Even after asking for the check, we waited another 10 minutes for it to arrive. The food was average at best. The risotto was the highlight of the meal. Eating mushrooms with sand. The French fries were extremely overcooked. When I mentioned this to our waiter, he jokingly replied, "Well......" While he may have meant it humorously, it didn't make up for the poor dining experience. For a restaurant with this reputation and prices, especially for a birthday celebration, we expected attentive service and a welcoming atmosphere. Instead, we left feeling ignored and disappointed. Well isn't this place just the cutest. The garden in the front of the restaurant is so pretty. The dining rooms inside are really nice as well. I'd highly recommended The Chanticleer for any meal of the day, in any of their many dining areas. But, if you can snag an outdoor reservation on a nice day, you should do so. They do have some heated outdoor seating areas for cooler days. As far as the food goes, we each had to order the Lobster BLT and we split the Bluefish Pate. My goodness, please order these. Can't comment on the food or the ambience, but I will say that the service is less than stellar. I'm disappointed with Chanticleer's reservation policy in particular. Our hotel made a reservation for us, and when we realized later how far away the restaurant was from where we're staying, we called well in advance (five hours) to explain the miscommunication and hoped to cancel. Despite our efforts, the restaurant refused to allow any flexibility -- instead they will charge us $100. That's a ridiculous sum of money. I understand restaurants need to protect their business, but in this case, the lack of accommodation felt unnecessarily rigid -- especially since I can see there are many available reservations for the same evening (28 to be exact given that it's the off season). It was clear we weren't keeping anyone else from enjoying a table. For a restaurant of this caliber, I expected a more gracious, customer-focused response. Unfortunately, this left a negative impression and soured our Nantucket dining experience. read more

The good: Service by our server Michael was very good: attentive without hovering or intrusive. Very professional. The outdoor patio: lovely space. Even with a large wedding- related party nearby we could still hear our conversation. Food: i loved the peach gazpacho. I then ordered and was enjoying the summer squash risotto when i felt a horrifying crunch in my teeth: I suspect a small stone which was overlooked when preparing the rice. A major mistake, as the prep of any rice or grain should include checking for the random bits of stone or other debris. I have notified the management and await their response. read more

We visited after a bike ride in from town. Great ambiance - try to snag a table outside in the garden especially on a nice day. The ambiance inside is a bit darker/old, but the lightness outside is fantastic. Overall felt like an elevated casual vibe, though I cannot speak for dinner service. Make reservations ahead of time. I'm told that it is hard to get into this restaurant. The garden is beautiful when you walk in. You have the option of dining in the garden area. It is a U shape and is undercover. We weren't sure if it would be covered so we chose the formal dining area that over looks the backyard/ garden. We had Paula as our waitress and her assistant Darwin. They both were efficient and nice. Everything was fresh. Everyone liked the most the bluefish pâté with their homemade chips. The tuna tartar was delicious as well. The halibut was great with zucchini. The oysters were good as well. No one was dissatisfied. The wine list is quite pricey. Locals had suggestions for other places to eat because they said it is to expensive. However, really the food is not to expensive. It's the beverages at $19 a glass and the wine that is $200 and up. If you keep that in mind, anyone can go there and enjoy the experience. The table ordered various desatara and those too were delicious. I think next time we will go for lunch and eat in the garden for the experience and beauty. Enjoy! PS. You will need a car or Uber. The Chanticleer is a bit stuck in time, as its more of an old-school fine-dining experience. The food was good, but there was nothing inventive by any stretch of the imagination. Thoroughly Enjoy this restaurant every year when we go to NANTUCKET. It's a must when you visit Nantucket.

My husband and I ate here for lunch on the last day of our honeymoon just over a week ago. It was the first day they were opening for lunch, the start of the season, so there weren't many people there. It was very quiet, which I enjoyed. We were immediately greeted by a hostess with a smile and brought to our table looking out into the garden with the cute horse statue from a merry-go-round. Our waiter was very nice, explaining they were training other waiters as this was their first lunch open. All of our several waiters were nice and attentive! I got the lobster toast, which was very good. I also had a sangria which was certainly on the higher end of $$ for one lunch drink, but it was delicious! We had a very pleasant experience and will be coming back to the Chanticleer on our next trip. The only negative was that it was rather chilly in the room. Since it was raining and chilly outside in general, I hoped it would've been a little warmer inside, but it didn't dampen our experience. read more

Has been a consistent favorite for many years. Ambiance great if you sit outside, BUT Menu has become stale and narrow; service has really dropped off. I had a bus person literally grab the water bottle from me as I was topping off one of my guests. Aggressively. I've worked in plenty of restaurants, good ones, and eaten in far more and never got borderline assaulted by a restaurant employee like that. Maybe training is poor. Menu is limited and very samey-samey; not much innovation here or local options as new things come into season. The ultimate insult this year was a $25 melon and prosciutto app that had the barest sliver of non-ripe tasteless melon. I live where you get cantaloupe fresh off the vine at roadside stands, hours old, that are soft and sweet; delicious. Chanticleer should be sourcing these if they are charging $25. It was hard, tasteless, and absolutely tiny. An embarrassment in my view to the chef. I never would serve such a thing to a guest. Or myself. The bolognese was good but also super pricey for basic pasta. Dessert is basically same list as always. I make a far better key lime pie at home. "Marco Pierre white Eton mess" would be improved with more and riper fruit, and perhaps a touch of framboise liqueur. Just average versus what it could be, which is a theme here. I just don't think the kitchen cares about food quality or creativity anymore and they just want to crank out max volume for the short 3 months they have to cover costs. The problem with that approach is: regular customers such as ourselves (we have spent thousands here) just stop coming. I'd eat there 5 or 10 times a summer if it were as incredible as it used to be. But it's "off our list" now. Summer House down the street finally got its act together after years of ineptitude (new kitchen and service crew from palm beach) and it's the best option in sconset now (in our opinion) for a diner who wants to feel good about spending $100 a head. read more

I would expect the Chanticleer to have impeccable service, but we were rushed through our dinner and barely attended to. Rushed to order, and then our plates were whisked away before we'd finished and the bill put down immediately. The waiter then came back 3 times in as many minutes to urge us to put our credit cards in. All in all, trying to get us in and out in less than an hour. This is an expensive restaurant, and should have been a highlight to our time on Nantucket. But we felt like we were at a fast food restaurant that tries to turn over tables as many times as possible. Huge disappointment. read more

Reviewing here because for some reason I am blocked from doing so on their Facebook page and their Messenger has been taken out of service. We had a five star meal here two years ago, and last year when we were on the island for Daffodil Days they weren't open for the year yet. I was quite anxious to be able to go this year, and was doubly excited when we found out our visit would coincide with Restaurant Week, and had planned out our dishes at our favorite five restaurants. When we arrived we requested a table in the back porch area of the restaurant but were told those seats were reserved, but our entire time there they were empty. We were given the cheapest seat in the house, the first along the wall where you get the opportunity to get hit in the head by every large pocketbook that enters the restaurant. After planning our meals for the week we were given a menu which was totally different than the one which they had posted as their restaurant week menu, which meant our plans went further awry. Had I not spent $30 on a cab to get there we would have left. I ended up with a tenderloin for a $10 upcharge that was uncharacteristically salty. My wife had cavatappi and lamb meatballs, which turned out to be a meal unworthy of the quality of this restaurant's reputation. We will sit this one out on future trips given its a $60 cab ride to and fro plus a pretty expensive dinner. I have expected some accomodation to be made by the restaurant but there has been none. read more

I will say the atmosphere and setting is lovely. Sadly, what used to be a wonderful French restaurant has become something without an identifiable direction. The seafood appetizers were very good oysters and cerviche. The entree menu is a little Asian, a little Italian and a little American. The Asian shrimp was a mix of vegetables, mushroom ravioli and 2 jumbo shrimps which were very salty (47$). Lamb bolognese was ok, more filling than tasty. Additionally, it was the second time we ordered a wine and they brought an older vintage which was past its peak and charged us the same price. We should not have accepted it but my husband was ok with drinking it. Overall disappointed. We miss the reliably delicious French restaurant. read more

We were seated in the "Club Room" not far from the small bar and immediately along the entryway to the room. The food was great, the wine selection was plentiful and great as well! What put us over was our server Gary who was very professional, knowledgeable, and gave us an incredible experience! I would also add, please make sure you have planned a ride back into town as the taxi situation can be dicey. Enjoyed a fantastic dinner last evening at Chanticleer. Started with a Cosmo, which my husband always teases me about, because I'm very particular about how its made. They give good Cosmo! Appetizers were Caesar salad and tuna tartare. The Caesar was very nice, but don't miss the tuna tartare. I've never had a preparation like it- it's a terrible style, spicy, with grilled scallion pancakes. Fantastic and almost a meal in itself. For main plates we had salmon and halibut. The halibut was a huge potion, Provençal style and my husband could barely finish it. We always enjoy Chanticleer, but last night dinner was really over the top good. And, I must mention our server, Lucas. He was delightful, friendly and really made our evening. read more

The absolute rudest staff I have ever encountered! I went around 11:30 during a non rush hour lunch, maybe a fourth of the tables were filled. The hostess rudely stated that she wouldn't seat our party because we didn't have a reservation, and any attempts to make a reservation online or by phone were turned down. Upon leaving, a server stopped us to ask why we weren't being seated. We told him they wouldn't let us in without a reservation, and he plainly asked the hostess "why can't we seat them?" in front of us. I didn't stay to hear her answer. Maybe it's worth visiting if you have a reservation, but good luck getting one! read more
