If you are looking for a nice dinner with vegetarian and vegan options this is your go to. The house made pasta dishes are also creative and delicious. I had the black truffle bucatini, my husband had the fennel orecchiette, and my son had pasta with cheese and everything was top notch. My son's pasta might have been one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted. Service was fantastic and the restaurant itself is full of Nantucket's classic charm and laid back vibes. It is located bar the center of town on the second floor. The signage is limited. If you did not know it was there you would walk right by. Upstairs there a barroom and a couple of dining rooms. I would not imagine they could have so much seating. I had the octopus and pot belly. The octopus was tender. Given how hard it is to cook octopuses this was an accomplishment. Then I had the venison, cooked rare. It was delicious. I would return anytime I was on the island. read more

A very good restaurant. Innovative local cuisine using many locally sourced ingredients and an outstanding wine list in a beautiful traditional building. The ladies in our party ordered a white Sancerre that they reported was delicious. Bread arrived that was house baked. We moved on to appetizers. I had the kale Caesar salad, which was quite innovative with tiny toasted bread crumbs, Meyer lemon and light dressing. Another appetizer was the field peas and wildflowers...a tour force! Moving on to mains, halibut, black bass (which was running) plates. On the exotic side was haddock in a tagine. All were perfectly cooked and sauced. Dessert was a very pleasant surprise and everyone was so excited we forgot to take photos, sorry. We had berries and ice cream with house made vanilla and strawberry ice creams. Solid 4 star review. Oran Mor is one of those restaurants that I end up returning to every summer/every other summer for a few reasons. 1) You can usually get a last minute reservation. 2) The vibes are old Nantucket, located upstairs in an old brick house; it's dark and gives off that vibe that at any moment, a captain of a whaling ship will settle up next to you at the bar. And lastly, 3) the food. While meals historically have been a mixed bag, the food overall is a sure bet. Additionally, I love that the Oran Mor is more of an older crowd. I'm in my hanging with a 65 year old+ chic granny more than a 20 something year old influencer era. Ok, some more details. My batched cocktail off the menu was great - the cherry rickey. I love all things cherry and this hit home with a perfect mix of cherry and boozy flavors. We went with the snail app, the special crab pasta and the potato crusted fish. The crab pasta was solid, with the pasta being cooked perfectly. A tad bland, but that could just be the dish was more focused on that crab vs heavy seasoning. The fish was delicious, but disappointment came in with the sides. Sides are usually my favorite part of any dish, and the eggplant was burnt and ultimately kind of inedible and the veggie medley or whatever it was, was indeed a bit sad and underwhelming. My husband and I both were like womp womp. Even the additionally ordered creamed spinach was more of a creamy spinach soup vs spinach which we also would not order again. No dessert because Juice Bar be like around the corner. :) Service was great. We have been seated in the dining room and by the bar, and I appreciate both vibes. Overall, solid. Nantucket dining can be hit or miss with rezzies hard to find, so if Oran Mor is a possibility, I don't think you'll be disappointed (maybe just with the sides!). read more

Really nice restaurant with great service. The food is really mediocre though, I got the truffle pasta and my husband got the venison and both were just okay. I thought the pasta needed more salt. We also got the caesar salad since it had such high reviews but I didn't get the hype. It's quite expensive which is the norm but I was expecting better food. read more

We had a phenomenal experience here during a friend's bachelorette party. We were seated in their private space on the top floor and our service was amazing. We pre-ordered appetizers and all of our food came out so quickly. We all agreed that the kale Caesar salad was the absolutely best Caesar salad any of us have ever had. I could've eaten just that all night long. I got the fennel pasta and it was wonderful. I was so full from the appetizers that I couldn't even finish it but it was so delicious, and I can't remember what the peppers were called - I had never had that kind of pepper before and they were amazing! They were small, kind of like a grape tomato and were little bursts of flavor. Yummy! The rooftop spritz was an aperol spritz and was delicious. Exactly what I wanted on a warm summer day. If I could give half stars it would be easier because I give this restaurant 3.5 stars. we had a medium sized party for dinner where we all started with a glass of Pinot noir and all were given different glasses and different sized pours. Which was a very odd experience. We started with the Spanish octopus and pork belly which was delicious as we weee given a hefty share of octopus but one piece of pork belly. We shared the duck which was quite delicious! As well as shared the fennel orecchiette which was very light we did have to add a sprinkle of salt but otherwise is was decent. Sadly I just felt like the experience was generic and much less fine dining as advertised. read more

I thought this was going to be the most spectacular meal of the week. Thought this place was top notch and would be romantic etc. Made our reservation as soon as possible 30 days before the date. My only request was a nice table for two for a special occasion. They stuck us directly in the middle of a loud obnoxious table of 8-10ppl. I gave it a try, but we couldn't even talk to one another. Kindly got up and asked to have our table moved before we ordered. Finally, a table freed up, no problem as we are patient. They sat next us next to an even more obnoxious person annoying the table next him, but he was directly facing us. Kept shouting "Do you want to hear why he is better, we'll do you? He got louder and louder as he repeated it three times b/c the ladies he was directing the question to were ignoring him. I asked him to let it go already, and he reluctantly shut up. As they "re-set" our table the staff would say "here's your silverware-again"."here's your menu -again" once to me and then to my husband with each item. Here's your...again! Give it a rest people. Couldn't wait to get out of there. Losing our appetite by now...ordered beet salad and FENNEL ORECCHIETTE RAPINI, GARLIC, WALNUT & SUNDRIED TOMATO RED PESTO, CANDIED FENNEL SEED & PINENUT, SWEETY DROP PEPPERS. Well something "broke" in this oily mess! I picked out and ate the little peppers and some fennel the rest was trash. Excellent wine and beet salad was good and nothing special. So happy this this is one of the handful of restaurants currently open in November on Nantucket. I highly recommend getting a table in the charming upstairs. The cozy fireplace, nautical artwork, and warm lighting makes for the most beautiful ambiance. The staff (India and Gabriella in particular) was wonderful and made great recommendations for both food and wine. Some items not to be missed: - Pain Killer cocktail - Roasted Oysters - Lobster Gemelli - Duck Bolognese - Duck Breast - Black Truffle Bucanti - Bison The only item we didn't love was the lobster bisque. This was supposed to be our "romantic" dinner on the island. I had seen it featured somewhere as having both amazing food and atmosphere, and it DID fit the bill as far as the decor went. It was absolutely charming. However, the noise level completely ruined this for us before we even took a bite of food. I'm not sure I can adequately describe the noise level. It surpassed the loudest sports bar I've ever been to. One guy in particular had such a loud, booming, piercing voice that he sounded like he was on a megaphone. Combined with the rest of the raucous crowd, we literally put our hands over our ears at times. Maybe we should have asked for another table as it was truly insane, but we toughed it out. As for food, I had also chosen this restaurant for the duck on the regular menu. My partner loves duck. As it turned out, there was also a duck confit special on the menu that night which my partner chose, but it was pretty dreadful. How do you take a fatty meat cooked in fat and make it dry? The skin was tough and chewy instead of crispy, and the wild rice side dish was unpleasantly crunchy. Another disappointment was the banana cake dessert which was dry and chewy even with the chocolate peanut butter sauce. For dinner, I had the Lobster Gemelli which was a little light on lobster but otherwise very good. Along with a great Cabernet wine and exceptional rolls in the bread service, it was enough to pull this place up to 3, but I couldn't really recommend and wouldn't return in future. read more

We had the honey roasted beet special and the raclette special with fingerling potatoes and broccolini- both were awesome. The kale ceasar and truffle bucatini were also amazing. Lovely restaurant with excellent food and interesting, well-balanced cocktails. Service is polished but friendly. The atmosphere can be a little loud around the bar area (not in a bad way, in a vibrant/fun way, but nevertheless it can be hard to hear conversations at your table) but is pretty quiet elsewhere -- one advantage of the restaurant's historic-house layout! I think this is the best restaurant on Nantucket. Certainly it should be in anyone's top three. The truffle bucatini is especially good and is one of my favorites, but honestly there's not a bad dish on the menu. read more
