American Seasons - New American Near Me - Nantucket, Massachusetts

Our party of 4 was excited to hit American Seasons. Our excitement increased as we entered the restaurant and were met at the door by 2-3 maître d's, one of which welcomed us and proceeded to gush that we were in for a truly special meal: a Michelin starred chef, fresh, local ingredients and unique dishes & flavors. I wish I could write a glowing review, but in all honesty, I cannot do it. The entire experience was a let-down. The serving staff is clearly hired for the season; they struggle to describe the menu; there is no sommelier available and our server looked like a deer caught in headlights when asked a simple question about the sweetness of a Riesling on offer; the food was trying so hard, but was poorly executed and under seasoned. I ordered risotto with chanterelles, asparagus and fresh greens: what arrived was bowl of bland, soupy rice that somehow managed to be both mushy & undercooked. Two of our party ordered the halibut which was so doused in unnecessary accoutrements that this delicate, wonderful fish was lost (and also slightly overcooked), the last member of our group ordered "a Greek preparation" of lamb that arrived like a gummy block of scrapple (today, we noticed it had been pulled from the menu, thank goodness!). It was practically inedible. The two starters were passable, but nothing to write home about and, needless to say, we opted to skip dessert. The bill for this meal was hefty and didn't deliver in any way. The only positive moment was when we asked for the excessively bright lighting to be dimmed down (we were blinded) and we were kindly accommodated. Long story short: unless American Seasons does some serious reflection on how their marketing & describing the experience here, skip it. You're better off with fried clams at a shack. read more

We were able to get a reservation last minute on a Saturday night. The food was first rate. The dining room was small but comfortable and cozy. Our server was delightful. I had two appetizers which was plenty of food and delicious, foie gras, and scallops. Our table shared a sticky toffee pudding, the perfect end to a relaxing and delicious meal. read more

Service needs improvement. Waiter spent more time shorting the breeze with other staff than our table. We ordered apps, entree and bottle of wine at same time. Expos brought apps and entrees separately at a relaxing pace. Waiter brought bottle of wine when we were half way through our entree. It wasn't a busy time and food wasn't rushed. Dined opening day of season April 24, 2025. Most everyone had a reservation, I did not. Hostess was gracious. I asked to dine inside, seasonal patio was inviting but cool. I was offered main dining room or bar area. I was dining alone and bar was cozy. Two tables and room for a few people at the bar. Dinner started w a single sizable slice of sourdough bread and seasoned butter. I ordered the Scallop appetizer, Halibut entree and sticky toffee pudding. All were delicious and presented well. Kasey was my waitress, service was very good and personable. American Seasons is in a unique location, a 10 minute stroll from downtown in a residential neighborhood. Just like other reviews mention, we waited 40 minutes for our reserved table. They were not apologetic or nice at all. The food came 2 hours in. It was good but not good enough and the manager didn't care at all about our experience. The server was nice but the management is really incompetent and negligent. Overall meal and service was good! However I just expect more. The passionfruit pour over was delicious this was the best and most unexpected point on the menu. Bread service had just one option and nothing for gluten free folks. The halibut and chicken dish were just average. The crumble on the halibut was eh and would leave off next time. This was definitely a mixed bag. Our server was extremely pleasant and professional, but the service was remarkably slow. It took over half an hour after our reservation to be seated, and another 15-20 minutes before anyone took our order. They also forgot the complimentary bread course until prompted, but were happy to accommodate. Food was also mixed; the chicken liver appetizer was delicious, but the duck entree was not well seasoned and quite gamey. The restaurant itself is beautifully done, and we had great cocktails at the bar before our meal. Not a terrible experience, but the service and menu don't reflect the price. read more

We had a great server which always helps the experience. The food was great -- chicken liver pate was great as was the gazpacho (great on a hot day), the duck egg starter with white asparagus, and island greens salad. The fresh catch (fluke) was very good as was the tenderloin (not too thick). Overall, a bit of a dialed-back vibe, which I liked after the heavy touristy vibe in some other places, with very good food, and (I think) if you're nice to your server, you get nice back. read more

Thus was my fourth visit to what is arguably the best and most unique restaurant in Nantucket. A hidden gem--they are not advertised in the Nantucket Restaurant Guide--it is very tastefully decorated, with an enclosed (open in the warm season) garden patio under a trellis of vines with plants and flowers placed all around, an inviting and intimate inside dining room, and a large, handsome, classic bar. For hors d'oeuvres we had the bay scallops, which were accompanied by a delightful sauce, and the Nantucket greens salad. My main course of halibut atop a melange of chanterelle mushrooms and polenta, with a cream and sherry sauce that blew my taste buds away, and my date's was a plate of deboned chicken in red-wine reduction, roasted asparagus, and fingerling potatoes. Dessert was a trio of tarts, including banana with toffee sauce and chocolate mousse cake. A very nice bottle of Pascal Jolivet Sancerre topped off our delightful meal. Marina, our server, and a Nantucket native, was extremely gracious, friendly, and attentive. This was a truly memorable dinner in a very special setting. read more

My wife, daughter and I recently had a wonderful dining experience at American Seasons. The interior is dimly lit and very charming. All of our dishes were beautifully plated and our server was exceptional. During our most recent visit, we enjoyed the chicken liver-foie gras parfait and burrata to start and for entrees my wife and daughter each had the honey roasted halibut and I had the Muscovy duck breast which was cooked (and sliced) perfectly. I also had a Sunny's Old Fashioned which was well prepared. We skipped dessert and headed in to town for ice cream. The only downside was that it was rather warm inside and we were in and out in well under an hour and half. Otherwise, it was a lovey evening. read more

Amazing experience! Dining here after a tough year with COVID-19 lockdowns, Peter our server brought us back to the joys of hospitality. With great conversations and letting us pick the perfect wine pairings, the experience took us away from the crazy world outside. The food was delicious highly recommend the Chicken Liver-foie Gras Parfait and Sea Scallops. Roasted Duck was cooked perfectly. Went during last week in June just before the July 4th onslaught. We had a 6:00 pm reservation, and the restaurant filled up quickly. This restaurant is located very close to our Nantucket home, so I very much would like American Seasons to be one of our favorites. It is not yet there. Let me start with what desperately needs improvement. Service is very slow. Asked for my second martini when my first was finished at the end of my appetizer. It did not come until after we finished our entree. Waitress, who was very pleasant, disappeared at times, service was just not good, perhaps it is beginning of the season blues. For an appetizer, I had the pate, I've always felt a pate needed bread to cut the fat content, could have liked a second grilled piece of bread but no one came to offer. But it was excellent and pickles were interesting. American Season's has a very limited menu for entrees (actually everything). My wife had the pork shoulder and I had the roasted in honey halibut. Both served with small quantities of vegetable under the entree. My halibut was dusted in hazelnuts and had a good flavor. I think it was the most expensive dish on the menu at $55 ish, my wife's pork shoulder was actually pulled pork, then pressed into a hockey puck size patty. Despite claims for juiciness, it was dry. I had the same dish last year, and it was also dry. I think there were about six or seven entrees offered, the most amusing was vegetarian carrots, cooked in several ways, for $40. They had Salmon and Chicken and a duck dish. If the menu changed frequently, the limited menu would not be as big a problem. Last year, however, there was very little change in the menu during the season. This needs attention if we are going back more than once. We shared one appetizer, shared one dessert, had two capacinos had two entrees and each had two drinks, (pour on wine was small). Total came to somewhat over $300 for my wife and I. This is expensive even for Nantucket even though highest priced Nantucket restaurants are in about this range. There are other really quality restaurants on Nantucket which are about $50 to $100 per couple less, including drinks. American Seasons has a way to go before it would be our go to place. I expect interest in this restaurant will wain with time unless they offer significant menu changes. Regardless what they do on the menu, they must improve the efficiency of their bar- they are losing revenue with there very slow delivery time. read more

This place was fantastic. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The food is fresh and delicious. We had the bursts, local salad, and scallops for starters. All were excellent. The drinks and food here were soooo good. My only complaint was that we had a larger group of 8 people and they crammed us around this tiny little table that was probably meant for 6. So we were a bit squished but the food did not disappoint. read more

First time on the island and we loved finding this gem a short but lovely walk from our hotel on Broad Street. We made online reservations and it had both indoor and outdoor seating options. We arrived early and grabbed drinks at the bar. The bar was stocked with nice choices and the drinks were made by a fantastic female bartender. We moved to our table where we had excellent service from a team of waitstaff. The menu was brief but had some thorn for everyone's preferences. An unfortunate miss. I was really looking forward to this meal after seeing a lot of positive reviews! It has a great location, a nice menu, staff was generally friendly, and the drinks were good. Unfortunately the service was off and too many of our meals missed the mark. The pork shoulder was recommended by the staff but was packed like a small hockey puck...and completely dry. But we also had to send our beef tenderloin back to the kitchen because it was very undercooked...and never saw it again (we finished the rest of our meal before it came back and told our waiter not to bother.) Several other items we ordered were just fine, but nothing we loved. Staff apologized for the problems and took items off the bill, but it was all very half-hearted, and even after that we got bad service! No one was attending to our table or clearing our empty plates, so we just got up and left, paying on the way out. It was an odd way to wrap what was supposed to be a nice meal out. I feel almost bad writing the review because the staff was nice, and apologetic. But we ate out for a week in Nantucket and this was the miss. It would be very difficult to recommend. read more

i tried once again to get the reversal for my boss of the exorbitant cancelation fee charged for not attending dinner at American Seasons - even though I did call the night before to cancel the reservation (22 hours ahead not the 24 hours required) - and again spoke to Brittany who informed me to tell my boss that because of the review I did here on Yelp that she would not reverse the charge. I told her I did not want to cause her any problems and I would take down the review, reversal or not.....but then I read it again, it was factual, concise, not rude and I even had a shout out to the hostess so I am sorry but I cannot remove the truth. read more

The server was either having a bad day or on the verge of quitting but she barely spoke to us, made zero eye contact, and looked annoyed when we asked a question about the menu. So, the reason for 3 stars is that its so damn pricey for what it is. We sat outside on plastic seats, we had to wait about 20-25 min for our second drink, and our 4 top had each a few drinks, an app each and an entree and it was $100 per person. AFter dinner we went to the Juice Bar delicious, and then came home and ate a turkey sandwich. The portions are ridiculously small.. check it out if you want a nice ambiance in a Nantucket classic restaurant and if you are not into food or hungy, but if you are hungry def check out another spot. read more

High quality, quaint, romantic, 5-star restaurant who aims to please and cater to the customer experience. The manager moved from table to table asking all how their meals were. The waiter had charisma and charm. The outdoor patio seating was ethereal and whimsical. The food was beyond compare!!! I ordered the gazpacho soup with fish lumped in a small circle within the middle. It was tangy citrus refreshing on a hot muggy Nantucket day. I also ordered the halibut which was carefully laid over a bed of vegetables and a white créeme sauce that was also very sweet savory and delicately garnished with herbs. I loved this dish and hadn't had a meal this great since I was in Paris four years ago. My boyfriend had the cauliflower topped with greens over a bbq sauce great for vegetarians. My friend had the octopus which was also very appealing. We split a bottle of French Chenin Blanc among the four of us and took our time winning and dining away. We didn't have any dessert, but the raspberry and lemon tortes sounded delicious. I highly recommend this place. We booked them easily on open table and were seated right away which was unheard of on a busy Saturday night in Nantucket. This place was the best of our Nantucket food adventures. We stayed at the Wauwinet and I believe this meal was better than Toppers. The environment is cute, service staff very enjoyable to visit with and the chef is exceptional. The sign of a superior chef is a paired down menu, so don't let the limited options fool you. I recommend the octopus and chicken liver mousse. If we ever come back to Nantucket this is where we will eat first. read more

Do not make a reservation! I canceled my reservation and 5 weeks later with no warning they charged my credit card for $100. When I called they could not have been more rude. They said due to fine print (?) - that I still have not found even though they said nothing at the time of cancelation 5 weeks later they have decided to charge my card now (5 weeks later) for the cancelation. Read the fine print before you book and a cancelation number will not help you - they did not care about any cancelation confirmation codes. I recommend finding a place that you can trust with your CC. read more

Easily one of the priciest Island restaurants - but definitely not worth it. Not-fancy cocktails at $36/each were an unpleasant surprise, as well as the abrupt and very cold server. Much better food and service about 2 blocks away at The Breeze Restaurant in the Nantucket Hotel. read more
