Place was really cozy and comfortable, and the decor modern while not overshadowing the features of the ex-train station venue. The food was good! I feel sorry I did not take pictures, but that is also often a good sign from me. The service was great. My husband and I have been here twice. Once in the summer time and we sat outside. There was live music and the food was great. It was such a good time. We then went again this past Saturday night and had such a great time. We got there late and sat at the bar. We ordered some tapas and the food was amazing! Don the bartender was so nice and courteous and attentive. We have lived in the Peekskill/Cortlandt area for a few years now and have yet to find a local place that we want to go back to. This is a new cafe situated within the old ticket building of the Peekskill train station. Conveniently right off the highway. Gorgeous views of the Hudson River. Decor is elegant and minimal. Retro prohibition vibe, if that's a thing. Always great music and a truly chill ambiance. Tall ceilings and beautiful windows. Very nice staff of young kids. Always really friendly. Food is delicious. Try the Brie, apple and prosciutto grilled sandwich with house made chips. Yummo! A nice sized portion for its price tag of $14. Coffee is also really good. I'm not always the rater who only speaks up when a place is bad. And I should have given rave reviews over the past year or so since the food at The Central is consistently delicious. However, we went here for lunch yesterday. The hamburger was excellent as always and my spouse's pork sandwich was likewise wonderful. The reason for my review today is to complain that the side salad -- requested instead of the fries that came with -- consisted of 4 leaves of Boston lettuce...no dressing, no embellishments...just leaves of lettuce....and a $2 surcharge. We live in western Connecticut and traveled to Peekskill for a show at The Paramount Theater, where we decided to enjoy an early dinner. This was our first dining experience at 'The Central,' which we chose because they had Paella on the menu, which is a rare occurrence on most restaurant menus. We began our meal with Baratta Toast topped with baratta and mushrooms, and it was delicious! The Paella was served in the pan where it was cooked, and it was hot, which was a good thing. They also let you know on their menu that one order is plenty of food for two, and they are 100% correct. The rice was cooked perfectly with just a mild crust at the bottom and surrounded with fresh shrimp, mussels, and squid. I say 'BRAVO' to the chef. The Central is not outrageously priced, features a casual dining atmosphere, and is right next to the Amtrak commuter tracks, which is kind of cool. The next time we come to town for a Paramount Theater show, you'll find us at 'The Central'! read more

Nice place in an old train station. Great staff. Moroccan chicken sandwich was good but could use so more seasoning. Fries were perfect.

I came in for an egg and bacon on a roll to take on the train. When I asked the young lady to hold the cheese, she did mention that the sandwich was pre made and do I want the cheese taken off. I had the cheese taken off but the sandwich was not good at all. The roll was slightly burnt and the egg looked processed...yuck. Save your taste buds by going to the deli across the street or McDonalds for a bacon & egg biscuit. read more

Great setting - high ceilinged brick building by the train tracks. Classy Brooklyn-worthy dining room and bar, with a cafe area in the back. Ample outdoor seating for a warm day. Good list of wines, beers and cocktails. We only had some small plates - tapenade , wedge salad, croquetas, but all were pretty tasty. Ashleen was great, polite, courteous and very understanding. She is an excellent bartender and she did her job right. The latte was excellent. The problem was the food. First of all the Diner Plate was kind of cold and the bacon was over cooked. Beside that I simply asked for some bread on the side and they brought me just one slice of bread, YES ONE SLICE. Then once I received the check I noticed that they charged me $2.00!!! I mean who charges a customer, any customer, a regular or a new one, $2 for ONE SLICE BREAD! And I have to wait 5 minutes just for the bread itself. Highly NOT RECOMMENDED! Don't waste your time! Go somewhere else! read more

Tried The Central last night. The space is beautiful, small but cozy vibe. We got there early, 5 :30 ish. The bar was full, but we got a table. Real votive candles on the tables , which I love! The cocktail menu is creative,and they mix all the classics . Nice wine selection also. We could not decide what to get so we did an assortment of starters and small plates. Although small plates is a misnomer- the portions are generous! We have the humus, the Z'tar spice on the pita was a delicious touch. The patatas bravas were so good! The mustard vinaigrette on the kale salad was delicious. The crispy Brussels sprouts are addictive- so flavorful! We also had the Harissa chicken wings, these were solid, but not anything out of the ordinary. The service was friendly and welcoming. All in all this place is wonderful. I can't wait to go back and sit outside when it gets warmer and try some of the other dishes that caught our eye. read more

Although I don't care for all the food items personally, they have a diverse menu and good service. I checked the website before going to see if brunch type items could be served outside around 2pm. I must have read it incorrectly, because one seated outside, the items I wanted were not available outside. After lunch I ordered a chai latte and it was served in a paper to go type cup; just my preference but while still dining at the table I would have enjoyed it more in a regular cup. read more

I have lived in Peekskill for many years and have seen many restaurants come and go. I was feeling like this resturant was going to become my favorite one in the area having had several positive experiences dining in both the "bistro" and the cafe where they have pastries and coffee. I have enjoyed the avocado toast (no longer on the menu), the humus, the crispy brussel sprouts, mushroom burger and various pastries and breakfast options in the cafe which were all excellent. Last weekend I took an out of town friend there to enjoy a meal together. We both ordered the scallops, with polenta and spinach, one of the specials. This was on Friday, June 28th around 7PM. The reason I am very specific about the date and time is I hope the management and chef can get to the root of the issue. The preparation was absolutely delicate, the scallops perfectly cooked, the polenta fluffy and the spinach soft. It was so well prepared but laden with massive amount of salt, so much so the food sadly was inedible. Both my friend and I tried to eat the food, not wanting to waste it but it just got to a point where we realized it couldn't be consumed. My lips were literally curling from the salt on each of the parts of the meal, the scallops, the polenta and the spinach. At first I didn't want to send the dish back, not wanting to make a fuss, but it became clear it was inedible. And then my friend who actually likes a lot of salt, after eating a few bites himself, also had the same realization that he could not eat his dinner either. While I was not going to send mine back, when I realized his was also laden with salt, I felt we should so we did. We were credited for the meals, but sadly it spoiled our appetite for much else that night. The following night I returned for an impromptu meal, taking a different friend there for his birthday as he had never dined there. I noted the scallops were on the menu yet again and thought perhaps if I asked for "no salt" they would be good this time. I was willing to give it a chance. My friend who is a chef explained to me that scallops are naturally salty (being from the sea) and do not need to be salted. I requested no salt and ordered salad as a replacement for polenta which was pre-salted. The scallops this time where over done, charred with a blackened outside, and rubbery (was it a different cook this time?). Even though I said no salt, the spinach was terribly salty. I think the waiter did not understand that "no salt" applied to the whole meal for me. I have to say it was disappointing. And then when the bill came, I was charged a service charge for using my credit card (almost 3 percent). I have never seen that in a restaurant. I paid the full bill without complaint. The whole meal was about $95 with tip for both of us; I felt it was quite pricey for disappointing meal. I was still hungry that night and had to eat a second dinner at home. Anyway, I will have to rethink if this is going to be my favorite restaurant in Peekskill. The entree at $34 (?) is too much for what it is. And the service fee was not in order. I hope appropriate changes will be put in place. read more

Came here for dinner tonight and everything was great. The atmosphere reminds me of a classic bistro and it's nice to have a local place that has a Mediterranean bent on their dishes. A nice addition to Peekskill and will definitely be back again. read more
