Ehhhhhh I think lost Cajun is better. The service was pretty subpar. Definitely don't do to the drive through. I will say they are probably still working out the kinks so maybe the service will get better. Took 10 minutes to take my order and about 20 in the drive through. The food here is very expensive and the portions are not as big for the price! Orders mild garlic sauce on my boil and got hotter than wanted. My husband ordered mild and his was mild. Just did not taste fresh or even decent! Won't be going back! read more

I was really excited to checkout this new place; however, I found myself regretting it after my meal. First, the service was average for an order first then sit restaurant (i.e., fast food). We got there early so our wait was manageable, but it filled up quickly and social distancing went out the window. People stood by us almost are entire meal waiting in line. I wish they would have had a system to prevent that. Even in a non-Covid world that is unacceptable. The food came and it looked delicious. I had the captains platter (overpriced), and the wife had the jumbo shrimp basket. The food tasted bland and was underwhelming at best. It was also greasy so we had some digestive issues the rest of the day.... For as hyped and busy as this place was I was shocked at my experience. There are way to many average-below average restaurants in Lubbock and unfortunately we have another to add to the list. Save your money and time and go elsewhere for "Cajun " or seafood. If you do go, don't forget your tums. read more

The USA Farmed Catfish basket for $9.99 had one piece of fried catfish in it. I ordered the red beans and rice as my side and got the two hush puppies. This is little more than a kids meal. The food was good but the fact that only one piece of fish was included is not stated on the menu and was disappointing. read more

Third time eating here since they opened up. First two times where great this time not so much. Both orders where cold gator basket and shrimp basket. Also the place is starting to get grimy and dirty. Please keep up the good work and get this place back to what it was just a few short weeks ago. Very busy place, unfortunately this seems to be their downfall in being able to slow down and do things right. Wasn't very impressed with portions, although they did accidentally give me 2 of one dish that I ordered. The Grilled Catch Fish came w/2 pieces of fish, each 1 inch wide at best and maybe 4 inches in length, very small portion. I asked for cole slaw and corn & potatoes as the 2 sides, got rice instead of cole slaw. Rice not even on the menu but I do see "red beans & rice". One dish had corn cob with 3 red potatoes, the other dish had 1 corn cob with 1 red potato, so not sure which serving is correct. Both came w/hush puppies. Also supposed to come w/garlic bread, but that didn't happen. My son seemed to enjoy his combo of fried shrimp, fried fish and a fried tender w/fries & hushpuppies. Couldn't get on-line ordering to work and the phone just rang and rang when I tried placing order by phone, so I ordered inside for carry-out, place was packed in addition to the line at the counter. Although I'm not sure, it appears they were serving free margaritas and beer. Overall food was "okay". I've had better at Riversmith's & Dimba's. read more

I'm a tough customer, but I have to say that overall, I enjoyed my first-ever experience at The Catch. I didn't want to like it, I had read some of the negative reviews here beforehand and balked at the expensive prices on the menu, but it was, in actuality, pretty good. I ordered at the drive-thru at 11:00 a.m. sharp and despite the sticker shock, ordered the Admiral's Platter which came in at $29.22 including tax. (I had read on other reviews that The Catch does not accept call-in orders, and I called in advance and this was confirmed). I waited about seven or eight minutes at the window while they prepared my order, pretty fast, considering-- and a friendly lady ultimately handed me a bag containing not one but two styrofoam clamshells full of food! It seemed to weigh a ton. I'm picky when it comes to French fries, and bad French fries are a deal-killer in my book, but these passed muster, they're a milder, non-twisty version of Arby's Curly fries--delicately spiced and a bit crispy on the outside, creamy and baked potato-like on the inside--tasty, pretty good! The "Whitefish" is slightly larger than the "Catch Fried Fish" and the breading appears more brownish-golden than the yellowish "Catch Fried Fish" and it did seem more succulent and a bit less rubbery. The "Whitefish" filet was large and would do by itself with a side if one isn't terribly hungry. The breading covering the two "Catch Fried" fish pieces included in the Admiral's Platter seemed a bit more pale and yellow and the filet portions were slightly smaller compared to the "Whitefish" portion, but were still ample. The consistency was definitely rubbery, but I have no complaints about the taste but I probably won't order the "Catch Fried Fish" again. I don't know what species of fish either the whitefish or catch fried fish are, but they both looked kinda cat-fishy, flat, tapered and inexpensive-looking. It's not at all like a luxurious, perfectly-white cod loin or certainly not halibut. I think I'd order the "Whitefish" again, it was pretty good, albeit a bit rubbery in texture as well. The fried oysters were great-- fresh tasting and breaded in a cornmeal-forward batter. The jumbo shrimp were indeed "Jumbo", maybe about 16 per pound in size (one big bite each) and cooked perfectly--delicious. The fried crawfish tails were also a nice surprise, the tails themselves were kinda small in size but the portion was large and they were cooked perfectly as well. There was a nice, mild sweetness to the flesh, almost like lobster. My meal was served with plenty of lemon wedges and at least two or three store-bought Ken's cocktail and tartar sauces each. The Ken's cocktail sauce is my new favorite, a little spicy and very zesty and fresh-tasting, wish I could find it in a store! The Ken's tartar sauce was just decent. The only other thing that I could really criticize were the hush puppies. First of all, at least one of my hushpuppies were undercooked and slightly raw on the inside, despite looking well-cooked and dark mahogany on the outside--and secondly, my impression was just of a plain, overly-dense cornmeal and too-much flour ball, not very good nor creative. There's no way in Hades that if I owned this restaurant that I'd sample that hushpuppy recipe (or the Catch Fried Fish, for that matter) and deem it "good enough". Not caring enough to improve the hush puppies' recipe betrays a lack of attention to detail, no matter how good some of the other items were. To close, the near-$30 price of the Admiral's platter may seem exorbitant, but the overall quality was probably sufficient to justify it, arguably, and certainly the vast amount of food that could feed a small family also helps to mitigate the initial sticker shock. (I got two meals and a leftover piece of fish out of it). Plus, it was a good way to sample several items if you are new to The Catch like I was. Next time, I'm sure could spend half as much there and be very satisfied. I hope The Catch succeeds, there aren't very many good fish joints in Lubbock. But at those prices, "good enough" might not be good enough. read more
