One of the oldest hotels in Dublin, circa 1700's, and a terrific location near public transport and close to restaurants and pubs within walking distance. Always welcome are the kettles for morning tea. The Vaults restaurant and the wonderful tea room are on property and offer both continental or full Irish brekkie. Loved the live music during evening meals, who doesn't love sipping a Bailey's on the rocks while listening to lovely Irish music? The hotel has undergone several retrofitting projects, and you can tell by the various levels just to get to your room. There's something nostalgic about that. And something to keep in mind if you must travel with more than one suitcase. The hotel was super accommodating to grant our wish to have a room near our traveling companions, suh-weet! Absolutely would stay here again, with a terrific location, wonderful staff, and a lovely hotel. read more

We found this hotel through an event app and it looked almost too good to be true. The hotel is centrally located in a clean, safe, and eventful area of Dublin directly off north O'Connell Street. The interior of the hotel is beautiful with a warm Victorian look. The rooms are large with a bathroom to compliment. My family of four stayed in a room with three beds and plenty of room to move about. The best part was that the hot water is consistent. All of the staff, from the front desk to the breakfast wait staff, are kind, helpful, and welcoming. The front desk is manned 24/7. The breakfast is delicious and they have two types, continental upstairs and Irish breakfast downstairs. Also, if you need to get your day underway before breakfast opens, you can have the staff reserve a takeaway breakfast for the next morning. This is a beautiful hotel with great staff that's centrally located and close to many of the large bus tour meet up points. The only criticism I have is that the rooms do not come with a mini fridge. Other than that, it's a perfect place. Enjoy! read more

After seeing the pictures of this hotel, I was really excited to stay here. Walked in and it was beautiful. But that's the last nice thing I will say about this hotel. Walked into my room and the floors were loud and creaky. You couldn't even lean without it being noisy and obnoxious. The walls are so thin, I could hear whenever my neighbor would fart or cough. You could hear everything down on the street below, even with the windows closed and three stories up. The room was so warm, but you couldn't open a window because of all the noise. They leave you a fan in your room but it was metal and makes too much noise as well. They leave you two small bottles of water in your room, but after quickly finishing them to avoid a heat stroke, they never replenished the water. Spoke to the man at the front desk asking for water, and he said to drink from the faucet. There is live entertainment but you'd have to get a table at the restaurant to see. The bar area was separated so you couldn't see, and had four tables with three chairs. After spending 3k for 10 nights, I expected way more. Stay at the Maldron around the corner or the holiday inn express down the street. read more

Location, location, location. That was the prime reason I chose the Castle as my first accommodation in Dublin. That and the fact that reasonably priced hotels were a scarcity when I was trying to find one. My trip to Ireland was a last-minute vacation between jobs and about two weeks prior to my arrival. Rifling through TripAdvisor didn't yield many attractive options, and I knew from the reviews of the Castle that it would be on the older side. But I decided to give it a try, and I have to say it was decent for what it was - an old Georgian-style hotel just two blocks from the heart of O'Connell Street, Dublin's main thoroughfare. My standard/single bed room was small but clean (see photo) with a large window that couldn't be completely closed. Given the chill that time of year, I spent an inordinate amount of time under the extra woolen blankets I requested to keep warm. The only awkward moment came when a loud woman came barging in to ask about turning over the bed when it was clear I was taking an afternoon nap. She saw me in my skivvies and alerted me that she wasn't looking at my privates. Good to know. On the upside, they accommodated my early-morning arrival by accepting my suitcase into a parlor room where all the other waiting luggage was. Breakfast was somewhat lacking mostly due to the haphazard service. Although I wasn't necessarily looking for a hot Irish breakfast, I wasn't even aware that was an option for me until the second day after I finished my toast and coffee. Good to know. The free WiFi did work just fine though, and the service at the front desk was reasonably good if a bit standoffish. But it was all about location, location, location, and it was nice to be able to walk to the city center without thinking about which bus line to take. Especially convenient was being close to the first stop of one of the local hop-on, hop-off buses, a blessing when I was suffering from a severe case of jet lag. For two nights, I paid € 160, a relative bargain near the center of Dublin. read more

The staff is very accomplished and quickly offer excellent suggestions on where to eat and drink. After we returned exhausted from a wonderful stroll (following an 11 hour flight), the hotel vault provided wonderful Irish fold music and more than acceptable wine (we had enough Guinness and Irish whiskey for one afternoon). Quaint old hotel in a good location with I don't know how many sofas and overstuffed chairs scattered about the many sitting rooms located up and down many interior stairways. Parking is available if you're lucky (and we are), but you won't need it if you like to walk. We'll likely be back (although I'm not all that fond of the two twin beds). read more

We traveled with about 15 or so to Dublin in June. Since we had a mix of children and older travelers in our midst, we decided to stay north of the Liffey. The location was perfect for what we had in mind, and we were able to access all the major tourist sites (with a 15 min walk/quick bus ride) while keeping the stag/hen locations at arms' length. The place is kind of a maze, having developed over time through one-off purchases. The lobby, reception, restaurant and downstairs pub all ooze with character and class. The breakfast (included with the booking) was a huge hit with our travelers, as guests could pick anything from a full Irish to yogurts and cereal. The only slight knock was that the rooms themselves can be quite snug, but given prices in Dublin this is still great value for money. read more

A perfect hotel Yes, I said it, it was a perfect hotel for me & the kiddo that was celebrating his birthday. I am so tired of the key card or through your phone connection key and it doesn't work and we got an actual key!!! We were in room 220, right after the elevator, which delivered a beautiful view of the church across the way. Yes, we were upgraded due to our room type sold out (2 twin beds) to a family room, which is literally 2 rooms, 4 beds and a jack and jill bathroom! I giggled with the bathrooms window that went from ceiling to the floor (God next door probably doesn't want to see what he has created) but does have a lovely shade for the full size window. The food is highly recommended, I got room service twice with the hamburger & chips/ BLT and the NY cheesecake...YUM! Location is wonderful as it is by O'Connell street, with a short walk to Ha'Penny bridge, Temple Bar, Post Office (was that a Heinekin building?!?) and all the monuments (a lot of history). Check-in and checkout was easy and this place has the most upbeat and professional staff. Thank you and cannot wait to return next year! read more

Great price for the room! Old building, but clean and up to date bathrooms. Toilets were a bigger to flush and didn't work every time. Complementary breakfast was a full Eggs, sausage, etc breakfast. Window didn't close fully so we could hear everything at night. Yet the price makes it worth staying here again. I need to add I was seriously impressed when I put the "do not disturb" sign on the door and woke up to find a fresh set of towels and soaps in a bag outside of my door. read more

This is one of my favourite places to stay, it's unassuming and unintrusive. It's both smart and humble. The staff are incredibly helpful, polite and always happy to have a little chat. With the café, restraunt and bar onsite, you really don't have to go all that far if you don't want to. But being well placed only 5 mins away from o Connell street, tearing up the town is an equally open option. The rooms are clean , fresh and well maintained, if not perhaps a little on the quaint size. With a price range that doesn't bust the bank, and of course the complimentary breakfasts , I've no doubt I'll be back here again. read more

I am a fan of small, quirky hotels. Much prefer them to large, stylish, soul-less chain hotels. And in this one, you get ambiance galore. Located in the not-so-charming neck of Dublin, the hotels seems to try really hard to compensate for its surroundings' lack of appeal. On the same location since the 1800s, the floors are uneven (but thickly carpeted), the stair creak at every step, and there's a fireplace here, there, and everywhere. The staff is very friendly and service is top-notch. The rooms range from small one-person rooms to large family rooms, and not two are alike. Mine was quite tiny, but it worked for in spite of my size (6'2), and it had the amenities you'd expect for a three-star hotel. There's a full Irish breakfast (think eggs, bacon, sausage, black pudding, the works), your choice of cereal and some yoghurt. Not the wides selection (a selection of breads, some fruit and whatnot could have been nice), but fine for a short stay. All in all one of the more memorable hotels I've stayed in in Dublin. read more

This is a gorgeous and very quaint hotel with an ideal location. I can honestly say the photos don't do it justice. The bar and restaurant are great. Staff are friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the convenience of the free full breakfast on site and the live Irish music in the bar at night. There are a things to note for guests considering this hotel (not necessarily negative, but rather so you can make a good choice). The location is great but with the older windows and construction there is quite a bit of street noise, from people making a ruckus to big trucks. Again, I expect that with the central location, but it may not be a good option for more noise sensitive travelers. There is also a fair amount of noise from the creaking floors outside your room. We were on the fourth floor so had no neighbors above, but imagine the lower floors hear a lot overhead. The older building also has a lot of dips and step ups/downs in the halls. There is a lift, but if you have limited mobility this may still not be the place for you. The shower in our room was teeny tiny and my 6'5 husband had a laughable time in it. We absolutely loved staying here and would definitely come again. The price, service, and location was unbeatable. read more

I booked this hotel through Priceline; it was by far the least expensive in the area. For what I paid, I was reasonably impressed (at first glance) with the state of my accommodations. The room was clean and aesthetically pleasing. The staff was very polite and friendly. They held my luggage in their luggage room for me when I arrived at 10 am and check in wasn't until 2:30. However, the hotel itself felt very Ma and Pa. My room was the size of a walk-in closet and smelled like my 80 year old grandfather's house. Everything seemed in need of renovation. My Irish boyfriend claims that American tourists appreciate the novelty of these B&B type accommodations in Dublin, but I was less impressed with the broken radiator, the toilet that only flushed 40% of the time, the poor water pressure in the shower, and the very thin walls that allowed us to hear everything in the hallways. The room was frigid during the night, so I asked the front desk to send up a handyman to inspect the radiator. Although he was very friendly and apologetic, he ultimately came to the conclusion that the root of the issue was the radiator "being old." The temperature of the room was almost unbearable over the five nights we stayed. In addition the the fact that we could hear everyone moving around the hallways at all hours, the winks and giggles I received from the housekeeping ladies when I left the room in the morning suggested that they could also hear everything that was going on inside our room as well. read more

Not a bad stay; room was a bit cold, but that's to be expected. Pub in the cellar has a good nightlife. Hotel is far from Temple Bar and Trinity. However, it's not a terrible walk. It is in an area without much in the way of restaurants, but again, not a hard walk. read more

My husband and I only spent 4 nights here and I thought it was fabulous. Rooms were comfortable. The staff was amazing and very helpful with everything. We only ate breakfast there - which was a big variety and very delicious. They even accommodated my husband and myself when we had an early day trip and opened the kitchen early for us. The location is great as we were able to walk around and site see, or jump easily on a bus tour. Across the street from the writers museum. The pub was a lot of fun too, very cozy with the traditional music. I would def stay there again if and when I return. read more

Stayed here three nights recently. The room was fantastic, the only mark against it was being on the central courtyard. It got a bit loud on a Saturday evening, and the noise echoes a lot. Still, it was reasonably quiet by 10pm, and wasn't an issue either of the following evenings. The service was friendly and very helpful, and the morning full breakfast was consistently excellent. The location is great, just a short walk to O'Connell Street, and it never took long to get to any of the local attractions. I'll stay here again. read more

Room was reasonably acceptable, but had some serious drawbacks. First, the breakfast was horrible in both food and service. If you have any desire to eat reasonable food, plan on eating out in the morning. Second, the parking is very weird. You have to be buzzed in to this gate that is half a block away, and that lets you into the alley that connects to the parking area of the hotel, but the remote buzzer wasn't working on a couple of the days we were there. Third, there was an exit sign just outside our room door that was buzzing loudly and flickering. WiFi worked well. Front desk staff was helpful. Location is not bad; a medium walk from the downtown. read more

Great City Centre Hotel Stayed here last week and couldn't have been happier. Great food and great service to match. We had a really memorable first night with a lovely dinner and live music in the residents bar. Very central hotel, it was a great base for all our sightseeing needs. The bedrooms were very comfortable and spacious and we had a lovely view of the Church across the road. Thanks to the lovely girls on reception they helped us book 2 great tours which we really enjoyed and great recommendations for our second night down the town. Breakfast was busy but really tasty and we were made feel so welcome. Can't wait to come back in September! read more

It kept you dry, that's the positive. I'm a fan of older buildings. However the amenities for the price were quite unsatisfactory. The room was cold. We actually had 2 rooms because my wife was scalded by the shower as the temperature of water fluctuated as you showered and the water would shoot up to scalding without warning. The hotel moved or "upgraded" us to the other side of hotel. The room had a fancy bed but the bathroom was smaller, the room even colder. For 89 euro a night I'm sure there are plenty of nicer places to stay. It included free breakfast that was terrible. We ate at McDonald 4 times in our 10 days because I couldn't do it. It's a bit away from the action, I would suggest finding location closer to River Liffey. Also if you do stay there, ask for a room that doesn't sit on a street. It's quite loud through the night because of buses running 24 hours a day. read more
